William Shatner is the BEST! Thanks for sharing.
Two examples of stars whose popular impact and influence are measured in decades. Two of my all-time favorites.
You are right, I loved Carson and Shatner both cool guys.
Gold, both
Clean, funny humor, I wish Television was the same today as back then. Life was better in the 80's and 90's for me
And today we have Alzheimer's Joe and dirty politician Harris in the white house ruled by left wing government control scum
Life was better for most of us.
Agreed - the world is a different place now.
Yes now we have the mental asylum inmates running the government life sucks
William Shatner is one of the greatest storytellers of all time
The late-night talk show hosts wish they could be funny and hold Conversation like this today. Johnny was a class act, his like we will not see again.
Totally correct Adam! Leftist Loons is about all they are
Amen Adam!

Just because they regularly call out the lunacy of the ultra Right doesn’t mean they’re not funny.
@@coolcat6303 - Yeah, as funny as a root canal.
Boy he looked good here!! Such a talented guy and real, genuine and honest.
As a GenXer I find it comforting and helpful to go back and watch these old videos from the world I grew up in. It's been so obscured by what's gone on so far in the 21st century that it's easy to forget. The world of the 80s and 90s is gone, and what has replaced it doesn't impress me one bit.
Brother, you have echoed my feelings, exactly.
now it's nothing but state propaganda. So incredibly uninteresting, unoriginal.
agreed ❤
Television and Broadcasting produced some of the greatest Stars who WORKED/EARNED their way into the BIG time. Now, not so much. Mediocrity rules.
Oh how I miss these times; when Johnny ruled the night airwaves with true wit, humor, kindness, professionalism and had a way of making his guests comfortable enough to be themselves. There was an an intelligence back then that today talk show hosts are completely void of. The days when Los Angeles was a much kinder place and when TV shows and Movies filmed everywhere employing hundreds of jobs. Then....the city and county crazies with their foolish policies chased all of it away. Thanks for posting this clip, felt so good to laugh!
Now we have Alec Baldwin shooting people on movie sets.
I remember when I lived in LA county , Glendale, and black people weren’t allowed after dark because it was a sundown town. Is that the kinder Los Angeles you’re talking about?

Shattner the fountain of youth. Johnny long gone while Kirk is flying to space. amazing fellow with a zest for life, he figured it out.
This must be back when some crew members were developing their hatred and jealousy of him lol!
He seems miserable actually
@@michealjaymurphy He still took himself a bit too seriously. By the 2000s, he's old and mostly forgotten, which leads to him going "ham" with Boston Legal. lol

Actually,?
I'll NEVER EVER forget the time he addressed thousands upon thousands of trekkies at the star trek convention. He stepped up to the podium and the first thing he said was,
"GET A LIFE!!!!"
@@bradhuskers I remember that! He did that on SNL. That skit was so funny!
40 years ago and he is still just as sharp at 90
Don't tell me that was 40 years ago!
Johnny was the BEST !!!
The very best
Gifted actor. William Shatner.
nice...dramatic ...Pause .
Very theatrical style, which was his background. Not the type of actor who can “lose himself” in a part, but always one to competently perform. A rather ambitious and ego-driven individual, which sort of explains his successes as Captain Kirk since that was the perfect character and role for him to play.
BOSS!!
@@stantheman9072
I love when he spoke at the Star Trek convention and got up to the podium in front of thousands upon thousands of trekkies, and the first words he spoke were,
"GET A LIFE!!!!"
@@bradhuskers Uh, I think you are mis-remembering or are misinformed. That’s not what happened. That line came from a skit he did on SNL in the 80s. It was a legit hit and was very funny. He then used it as the title for one of his non-fiction books, about his experiences with fans and at conventions. I doubt he ever actually said that before a real convention. It would not go over well with that audience and Shatner is nothing other than a crowd-pleaser. He lives for applause. Unless he was making some kind of joke with it or referring to his book for sale, I don’t see him doing it at all, much less saying it first. I’ve seen a couple of his convention appearances. It never came up.
We lived in the States for a while until 1976, then we went back to live again in 1991. I remember watching TV and the Show started. My mom got excited and said, "Johnny Carson Show!! I remember watching him when we lived in America before!! Wow, he is still doing the show."
Great episode! I love watching these old Jonny Carson interviews. William Shatner is cracking me tf up!
I'll never forget the time he addressed thousands upon thousands of trekkies at the star trek convention. He stepped up to the podium and the first thing he said was...
"GET A LIFE!!!!"
Shatner was a fine actor and very well known to TV viewers LONG before Star Trek.
What a great guest to have! That is a classic.
Never ever forget the time he addressed thousands upon thousands of trekkies at the star trek convention. He stepped up to the podium and the first thing he said was...
"GET A LIFE!!!"
Best of the best! Watched Johnny from a young age, (during summer, Easter, and Christmas vacations), and every New Year's Eve until I married.
Being an avid Star Trek fan from their very beginning at age 14, I enjoyed seeing Shatner's interview very much. Informative, funny, great storytelling, he and Johnny had a very relaxed and respectful demeanor. Easy to sit back and enjoy on several levels. 👏👍👍😀
We have seen the very best but we will never see show hosts of Carson's caliber again. I feel privileged to have been part of that era.

I would give anything to live in the world at the time this was aired again and just stay in that time forever. People were good and respected each other and you can feel the calmness of that time in this segment

well said ❤
He always had such a great collection of hair pieces through the years
Yeah, his TJHooker era curly hair is my favorite.
I think this one is from the Tom Jones collection.
One of the first appearances of the weave I think
Did anybody else notice William Shatner's white shoes at the end of the interview?
And the beginning! 😂
A THIRTY YEAR RUN IS VERY HARD TO ARGUE WITH?!!! R.I.P. JOHNNY CARSON! NOBODY EVER FID IT BETTER OR EVER WILL!!!
Anyone notice Shatner is wearing a sparkly shirt?
I noticed the white shoes first. I had the same white leather shoes in the 1980s.
About the time this aired I think most people had the sense that Johnny and his show would be around forever. I know I did. He'd been on TV on the same channel, at the same time ever since I was born. It was easy to take him for granted.
It's said we don't know what we really have until it's gone. That was certainly the case with Johnny.
It must have taken every bit of training as an actor for Shatner to pull off speaking almost like a normal human.
I was born the same year he took over the Tonight Show, thought he’d be there forever. At least we got 30 years.
@@jess4metoo I know right? I was 8 months old when the Tonight Show aired for the first time with Johnny at its helm. He was there for the first half of my life.
That was excellent. Why don't people have brains like these anymore??😅
Shatner's toupee has not aged for 40 years
He wears a toupee?
@@gavc6442 Famously so. check out his hair from the T.J. Hooker era. That being said, a man that can handle space travel at age 90 is a beacon of enviable stamina and health.

@@gavc6442 Yes, famous beloved millionaire actors can afford very convincing hair pieces. Love the Shatner. gives me hope that you dont have to be feeble at age 90

Always liked Shatner. Very good actor. Yes, he did overdo it on ST, but hey, acting is a work in progress.
A blast from the past
Enjoyed so much .
All those people have been gone for years and Shatner still looks and sounds the same.
Not quite. He was still young here. In his 50’s, yes, but still younger. He stopped aging about ten/fifteen years after this and that Shatner from 1996 still looks the same today.
@@forestgeorge8855 he is incredible
Shatner was such a trailblazer he even managed to regrow and incredible head of hair.😆😱

@FlyingMonkey916 behave yourself please
@FlyingMonkey916 You don't know what you're talking about.
Johnny & I shared the same birthday October 23 just different years
Happy birth day
Johnny was the last of the good comedy talk shows, until Craig Ferguson. Johnny had on actual funny comedians, interesting celebs, great and intelligent dialogue, and most new talent he invited on became successful.
Hi
I found Craig tried too hard . Just my taste. I appreciate the love for him . Thanks bye

We don't have these type of shows to watch anymore. I can't believe how significant Carson was. I've thought about why Johnny is Johnny, and why the hosts now can't quite pull it off. Johnny seemed important in show business. And he was to a pretty great extent of making people stars (or not). Shatner is entertaining.
😊😄😄😄 just awesome 👏 love this actor so much …. So funny … never seen this interview it’s not my generation never knew how funny he was …
What a crazy funny story…. Thank you for such a great laugh 😂 awesome naked in the snow…. Chasing 🐀 yeah Im sleeping naked too 😂 lol

He’s from Montreal Canada
@@fifthbusiness1678 I didn't say where he was from.....
America produced him..not Montreal Canada....that's what alot of you don't seem to understand...whether it's a pop icon or the defense of Western Civilization
I think if you look up his biography you’ll find that he was involved in acting in Canada from a very young age, graduated from McGill with a commerce degree, did some management in the field while playing a prominent role in canadian theatre long before he got to the US. Now I don’t know the man personally but something tells me you don’t “produce”Shatner. The guy just got back from space. He’s quite elderly and he’d still probably kick my ass. Shatner is one of the few I’ve seen on here who kindly hands Carson his hat. And I always admired Carson. But Shatner, I’m pretty sure he does it his way.
