I met Mr Nimoy in 1980 in the Sioux Falls Down Holiday Inn where I was a Bellman. I had been dispatched to the airport to retrieve his wife and bring her to the hotel! As I carried her luggage into the suite Mr Nimoy was seated at a desk and turned to thank me! If I hadn’t known ahead of time whom I was sent to pick up I probably would’ve been awestruck!!
Most actors cant remember breakfast yet Nimoy recalls lines, scenes, names, from ages ago. Always impressed by this guy. Our sincere loss he is not with us anymore!
This was his Passion! Most of us can't remember our early coworkers because they were jobs we didn't give a shit about. If either of us got to work on a Star Wars or Star Trek project in High School, I'm sure you would remember who you "worked" with.
Thank you Mr. Nimoy for being part of my life for 55 years. I always could find comfort and enjoyment in anything you did. Never knew there was such a thoughtful and profoundly beautiful and life loving side to you. You are missed and held in highest regards. I only wish we could have met. Thank you Geoff for this wonderful interview. I bet you will never forget it. I hope I won't.

That slip and stutter in The Wrath of Kahn is a great example of Shatner's underrated acting ability; He couldn't have played it any better, showing a grieving Kirk who is fighting, as Admiral, to keep composed. Great scene.
Shatner's acting ability is indeed much underrated. He can say anything with his face alone -- in Spock's death scene, his childlike expression of helplessness and despair is the emotional heart of it. William Shatner was a member of the National Repertory Theatre in Ottawa. He acted in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. He was Christopher Plummer's understudy in Henry V on Broadway. Nimoy is of course always brilliant and funny. I was also impressed at the fantastic skills of the interviewer. I think it's hard to realize how difficult it is to be relaxed and genuine when sitting down with a cultural icon. Really beautiful work.
That's amazing. I've always known that he improvised the Vulcan Salute, but I never knew the story behind it, I always thought it was just 'V', cause you know, 'Vulcan'. But see, now, every time someone does the salute, it's not just a Star Trek reference, it's also a hats-off to Leonard Nimoy. That is truly beautiful.
I watched another video in which Nimoy described using the liturgical gesture as a Vulcan salute, and he smiled gently and said of the Star Trek fans who use it, "They don't know they're blessing each other."
I was never a Star Trek fan and never watched the show but Mr. Nimoy was the very first person to host Ripples Believe it or not, and he had such a captivation voice you couldn't help but watch it. Then I watched him on re-runs of Mission Impossible and even in that he was fantastic. Then it was just after the release of the third Star Trek film search for Spock and yes that one I saw, I meet him in a air port just out side of Colorado springs and I remember he came up to me and said, "you look sad is something wrong" at the time I was sixteen, I said I am waiting on my Dad he is a Sargent in the Army and he is late" , and he literally talked my ear off but the guy was so smart he would blow your mind. So he asked me if I knew who he was and I said yeah you used to be on Mission Impossible and he had this big smile and told me I was also on Star Trek. And I said something that had him laughing so hard I though he would fall out of his chair, I said "Star Track what is that some racing movie?", he started laughing at me and then I saw the move poster for Star Trek III on the side of a bus and I had this sinking feeling of stupidity roll over me. He said "Don't worry about it you made my day, what is your name since you already know mine", I said my name and my father finally got there and thanked him for keeping me company and he thanked my dad for his service to this country. The man was one of a kind and his will always be missed.
Mr. Leonard Nimoy is one of those actors I really would love to have met, had a coffee with and listened to, tell stories of his life. I think they got the perfect person to narrate In Search Of. He created such a haunting atmosphere in that show. "Live Long And Prosper"
When Mr. Nemoy did the Vulcan greeting little did he know he blasted the show. Little did he know he got millions of people to bless others. Where Christians do the sign of the cross on themselves, they rarely do it to others. I think he started something that made God happy .
This is a treat to watch. Mr. Nimoy looked so comfortable and peaceful at his home. I have watched this video over and over... it never gets tiring. Kudos to Geoff for a wonderful interview.
I remember being so seriously in love with mr. Spock in every Star Trek episode and movie that he was in. I loved Leonard Nimoy very much. Also saw him in some regular movies thought I loved him in as well. I'm so sorry that he had to leave us, I wish you were still here💕
He played one of the most iconic characters in TV and movie history! He was a superb actor and director, as well as one of the nicest people in Hollywood! He will be missed! Thank You Mr. Nimoy for the fun you brought me those many star dates!
It's nice to have interviews like this preserved. I've watched so much Star Trek over the years that it's easy for me to overlook the very human Leonard Nimoy. A very glib, entertaining, cerebral, and charming man. RIP.
The “I’m black on the right side. He’s black on the left side; don’t you see?!” episode with Frank (The Riddler) Gorshan was just on TV here again last week. I always loved that episode when I watched the original airings in the ‘60’s. Thanks for putting the wonderful Leonard Nimoy before us again!!
His voice is amazing. When I play Star Trek Online, it's cool to hear some of the bits he narrated...some about the history of Star Trek. I could listen to him narrate anything. lol
I forgot how much I loved the tone of his voice ❤️ and what a positive reframing for type casting 😄... I love the fact that Nimoy can recall specifics about episodes and characters after all these years. It feels like he was really invested in the show and the stories they were telling back then.
I was lucky enough to see him in the lead in Equus-a tough role- on Broadway in 1977. he nailed it! An amazing actor, author and photographer. most importantly a classy and humble guy. RIP
The interview was fantastic... I have seen a view with Leonard Nimoy....none of the interviewers had your knowledge of the Star Trek Franchise. You made that interview great, and it left me wanting more, to which i promptly subscribed to your channel, thanks.. Some interviewers just talk at their subjects, you truly interviewed him, wow excellent, Mike
I first heard Leonard Nimoy as himself on a UK 'call in' radio show. He is clearly a very, very nice man as well as being an accomplished actor/director. He is 'Universally' loved for good reason!
Really good interviewer, ask questions i hadnt thought about in a way that Mr. Nimoy actually found engaging and responded accordingly with detailed explanations. Excellent work.
No, that was Kirk's line. You're getting confused. Spock's line was, "Use the force, Luke" Remember, after Spock helped Gilligan get off of Fantasy Island, they both worked at the bank with Mr. Drysdale and Mrs. Hathaway.
What's great about Spock's "Leonard Nimoy" character, is that the Nimoy character himself is an actor, who thus plays other characters. Thus, Spock's performance is very "meta".
Of course he's most remembered as Spock, but I also liked it when he hosted the TV series "In Search Of" as well. That show scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid.
I bought the complete "ISO..." set last year; I've watched it probably a dozen times now. He simply adds something totally... charismatic?... to the host spot.
I love this. Love what Nimoy did in that show, his integrity, intelligence and creativity (of course, he's a poet as well). Definitely belongs in the hero category.
I had a great opportunity to meet Lenard Nimoy many years ago after a banquet I was filming for the movie industry in NYC. We hung out and talked for about 45 minutes about the tv show and movies. He was a very pleasant, funny and humble man to talk with, it’s a memory I will always remember. RIP Mr. Spock 🙋🏻♂️
@Daniel Natal doesn't make any sense. No idea what I'm supposed to imagine, even with that description because I don't think I've ever heard a soul in my life who sounded like they talked in a tin can. It's a nonsensical description. Outside of "metallic echo" what voice quality am I supposed to imagine hearing?
what a wonderful interview. I only hope he's happy now. I wonder if they're all together, James D., Deforest K.,Gene R. , checking out the Galaxy to see what is really out there. Enjoy the adventure, and when you come back, be sure to write, direct and perform, sharing it all with us. Love and hugs. We will forever miss you Leonard Nimoy. So many of our heroes are out there.
Leonard Nimoy did many excellent Shatner impressions. Some were spot on, while others were hilarious in their over the top, Shatner style exaggerations. RIP Leonard Nimoy!
@@marioiacolucci Try Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Wonderful nuanced characters, literate scripts -- beautiful sets, makeup and costumes -- superb acting and direction. Each series lasted seven years at 26 episodes a season.
@Centurian HATED Enterprise -- watched it through once and never watched an episode a second time. It is in every way a regression and a disappointment from the first second when, instead of the beautiful, sweeping orchestral music one associates with TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, there is an absolutely ghastly, cringe-making song about aspiration over the opening credits. The three previous shows are ensemble shows with a huge variety of interesting characters. Enterprise focuses entirely on one invincible captain and one boring Vulcan. The sets are dark and dull, the costumes are drab, the scripts are boilerplate sci-fi. The thing is a prequel, so there is no sense of facing an unknown future: they are boldly going where everyone has been before. And the prequel tries to change for its own convenience principles established in previous series, so you don't know where you are anymore. All the wonderful worlds created by previous series and all the fascinating species we have come to know -- Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, Changelings, Vorta, Jem'Hadar, Bajorans, Breen, all the species Voyager met in the Delta Quadrant -- are gone; it's a wretched prequel and no one has met them yet. We never learn what happened after Voyager returned to Earth and the Dominion War ended. And the acting is awful! WIlliam Shatner and Patrick Stewart came from the Shakespearean stage. Actors like René Auberjonois, Nana Visitor, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew had years of stage experience. These people knew how to act and they knew how to be part of an ensemble. The acting in Enterprise is just wooden. Of course, Enterprise is better than JunkTrek -- better than Discovery, better than Picard, better than Strange New Worlds will be -- but JunkTrek consists of the worst television ever made. Compared to the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, Enterprise is a huge disappointment.
Brilliant...why has it taken almost 10 years to see this interview, now I have to go find Part 1.....thanks Nerdist and many thanks to Geoff Boucher....Clint - Melbourne
Mr. Nimoy was truly an extraordinary class act !! I am proud to say- I admired and loved his many performances and characters he brought to life. An American Icon !
I’m sure, as a serious AC-tor, he never imagined what would come from playing an alien in 3 seasons of some random TV show. But what an influence and legacy he has left, a role like that is something the vast majority of actors never even come close to. He became a cultural icon, if you flash that hand sign at virtually any American, they’ll know exactly what you mean. I’m sure he never imagined during the filming of the show that he would be a beloved character for generations to come. Star Trek was already cancelled way before I was born, even as a Gen Xer, but I grew up watching the reruns, my mom took me to the movies, I still watch the original series now and then. Star Trek lives on to this day, and Leonard Nimoy is a huge reason why.
I remember Nimoy playing fiddler on the roof at the melody tent in the early 70's on the Cape. i was about 13. all i could say was wow. He was incredible. thank you Mr Nimoy for that memory.
Live Long and Prosper Leonard....and for comments regarding "lighting and camera work", I would have enjoyed this interview even if it had been lit by an Itty Bitty Book Light in a dark alley, you don't need to see Leonard to love Leonard, his voice, spirit and attitude is SO awesome!
This was such an informative and cool video. To finally find out how spock's hand gesture came about was really cool. Leonard was always one of my favorite actors. From mission impossible to Colombo to star trek. Great interview ! May Leonard rest in peace. He will always Live long and prosper.
So...watching this two years after Leonard Nimoy's death. I still miss the fellow. That being said, I think his works did make, and still are making, the world a better place. His legacy lives on.
Amazing to hear talk about the emotional ties of the characters played on trek. It wasnt just acting but instead you get the feeling it truly was heartfelt. Amazing to be in a character that deeply and appeared they were. Nimoy went on to host a series I liked a lot "In search of" which only lasted 3 years.

Lovely story. Thanks for sharing.
Man, Do I miss Leonard Nimoy---what an awesome and true Spirit this man possessed! A true mensch.
Geoff Boucher asks great questions and Leonard Nimoy is clearly enjoying himself and the process. Really, really good!
He is so wise. After all these years and many wrinkles later, he is even more beautiful.
Thank you for this post. You had such a marvelous opportunity to meet this gentleman and speak with him. Keep up the good work.
It's nice to have interviews like this preserved. I've watched so much Star Trek over the years that it's easy for me to overlook the very human Leonard Nimoy. A very glib, entertaining, cerebral, and charming man. RIP.
Wonderful human being.
Very missed.
A great interview. Leonard Nimoy was clearly relaxed and enjoyed talking about his career. It's easy to see he was a happy man. Thanks for posting.
Will always love Nimoy. Spock too.
Never cared for Nimoy but Spock was hot...
The only Gay either way
@@Hakor0 He was Gay? And if he was so what, why does that matter? He is a really cool actor, period.
@@suzanneolivar1 Nimoy married twice two children.
@@beyourself2444 Never cared for Spock but Nimoy and Picard were amazing...
Just tears of joy ♥️. Mr. Nimoy, you are so fondly missed.
His voice is amazing. When I play Star Trek Online, it's cool to hear some of the bits he narrated...some about the history of Star Trek. I could listen to him narrate anything. lol
His voice is awesome, butt Takei's better ! :D
Marty McFly I disagree...
+Marty McFly I completely disagree.
Takei is overrated.
Same here. I hadn't played STO for a while when he died. So I logged on and warped straight to Vulcan where they had a memorial going. Very touching.
I forgot how much I loved the tone of his voice ❤️ and what a positive reframing for type casting 😄... I love the fact that Nimoy can recall specifics about episodes and characters after all these years. It feels like he was really invested in the show and the stories they were telling back then.
One of the best human beings put on this planet. Loved and sorely missed. R.I.P. Mr. Nimoy.
He was a brilliant man. He also had a great sense of humor.
Loved seeing this interview with Leonard Nemoy. Leonard doing Shatner's line about spock still brings tears to my eyes.
His was one of the voices that made me want to be a voice actor. I used to watch "In Search Of..." just to listen to his voice.
Really good interviewer, ask questions i hadnt thought about in a way that Mr. Nimoy actually found engaging and responded accordingly with detailed explanations. Excellent work.
I'm sure Nimoy enjoyed that interview just as much as we did. Geoff was well-prepared with good questions and followup. Kudos Geoff!
Nimoy brought wonder and awe to so many of our lives -- he and Spock will always have a place in our hearts.
That man there was one of the all time greats. a real down to earth guy and one that help change scifi movies for ever!
*greats
one of the greats' greets grates on the nerves somewhat...
Leonard is very genuine and decent. He never went Hollywood or forgot where he came from. Thanks for this visit.
What a nice interview, may you rest in peace Leonard
Leonard Nimoy was a national treasure! One of the greats!
I had chills when Nimoy said 'live long and prosper'.
live long and prosper...probably one of the most remembered things to have come out of a film or scifi series
No, that was Kirk's line. You're getting confused. Spock's line was, "Use the force, Luke" Remember, after Spock helped Gilligan get off of Fantasy Island, they both worked at the bank with Mr. Drysdale and Mrs. Hathaway.
I love how Spock from Vulcan has blended into earth's society and he plays the role of Leonard Nimoy really good!
Except tearing his Vulcan ears off and on....
What's great about Spock's "Leonard Nimoy" character, is that the Nimoy character himself is an actor, who thus plays other characters. Thus, Spock's performance is very "meta".
This man made Spock, a "logical" character the most human and humane of all the characters in the show.
Of course he's most remembered as Spock, but I also liked it when he hosted the TV series "In Search Of" as well. That show scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid.
Dude had some many great and iconic roles.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers and his work on Columbo were two other seminal efforts.
I bought the complete "ISO..." set last year; I've watched it probably a dozen times now. He simply adds something totally... charismatic?... to the host spot.
He was on an episode of Bonanza before Star Trek!
They used to show In Search Of and Dr Who (John Pertwee era) back-to-back. My favorite TV night as a kid.
Yes. From one fiction program to another fiction program. Star Trek was more plausible than the rubbish of "In Search Of".
Peace, long-life and great joy to you, Mr. Nimoy. You have given us of your best moments.
I love this. Love what Nimoy did in that show, his integrity, intelligence and creativity (of course, he's a poet as well). Definitely belongs in the hero category.
I always wished I could have sat down with him, had a coffee and just talked for hours. RIP!
Good to hear Leonard talking about other aspects of his career. Excellent interview.
I love the original Star Trek so much...
It was the best
Nimoy would have made a great Gandalf. Perfect face for it.
You shall not pass! It is not logical!
Colloquially expressed, but essentially correct!

@@sam5ta981 Holy crap! I have never seen this before!
This is absolutely wonderfully amazing. What a great interview.
RIP Mr. Spock 🙋🏻♂️
Leonard Nimoy loved his voice
This Guy would be unbelievable as Abraham Lincoln.
Daniel Day-Lewis's portayal was a Car crash, so yeah. Nimoy would have nailed it.
that's true. i imagine abraham lincoln's voice to sound exactly like his voice in this interview.
OMFG you’re fucking right!
@Daniel Natalwhat does tinny even mean?
If they are, they're all probably dreading Bill Shatner's arrival! 🙂
Live ya characters..all of 'em...
Leonard Nimoy did many excellent Shatner impressions. Some were spot on, while others were hilarious in their over the top, Shatner style exaggerations.
RIP Leonard Nimoy!
i did watch star trek and the one with Patrick Stewart I used too but not anymore

He's a very lucky man. He got the legend to say live long and prosper to him. Incredible.
Fantastic interview! You are greatly missed!
A pleasure to see the human side of Spock, what a fabulous actor Mr Nimoy was.
Such presence. And such substance. Thank you, Leonard, for your joy.
Leonard Nimoy, Spock, our TV friend, live long and prosper in the eithers of time and space......

Mr. Nimoy was truly an extraordinary class act !! I am proud to say- I admired and loved his many performances and characters he brought to life. An American Icon !
I also loved to watch "In Search Of".
Nimoy, please never stop being awesome
anyone?anyone?
"peace and long life" is the correct reply.
What a warm guy Leonard Nimoy was! Also, this interviewer is phenomenal!
Great to see an interviewer so in tune. He lets the subject speak.... so rare these days. All the world loves a good listener, my mom said.
This Gen-Xer agrees with everything you said.
JJ, your view of the world is rather narrow.
What a wonderful interview, with a truly wonderful actor!
I've always loved the fact that the Vulcan salute is a sign of benediction; a blessing.
I like it that Nimoy is so jolly about everything. Not what I expected.
I've always like Leonard Nimoy and Geoff Boucher did an excellent job in interviewing this wonderful human being & iconic performer.
Just a great Man and actor, he will forever in our hearts and memories live long and prosper!
What a lovely, iconic soul of a man! I miss him!
It was lovely to hear him speak. Leonard Nimoy was a great guy.
That final humble whimsical "live long and prosper" at the end, somehow summed up the character, actor and great man.
I couldn't agree more. LLAP ^_^
Didn't it just!
Seeing it now makes me feel as though he were telling us, "Goodbye".
This was such an informative and cool video. To finally find out how spock's hand gesture came about was really cool. Leonard was always one of my favorite actors. From mission impossible to Colombo to star trek. Great interview ! May Leonard rest in peace. He will always Live long and prosper.
Let us not forget Night Gallery.
So...watching this two years after Leonard Nimoy's death. I still miss the fellow.
That being said, I think his works did make, and still are making, the world a better place. His legacy lives on.
This was a wonderful interview with Leonard Nimoy! He has been, and always shall be, our friend. LLAP, good sir! 🖖🏻
