So is now 2023, and I've had this knife a bit over two years. Don't laugh, but this has been my daily carry for all that time. Bought it at Canadian Tire for $16. I'm not a knife collector, so when I find a knife I like I use it a lot. The J2 steel is easy to sharpen. It retains it's edge for a fairly long time depending on what you're cutting. The ergonomics of this knife to me, are great. Sits in the pocket unobtrusively. Bought one for my daughter and it too is still going strong. If this knife is anything like my 110(which is near 30yrs old) it should last a long time.
I am not laughing. I thought it was a good knife and I am glad it has worked well for you. I hope you continue to get good use out of it. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
This is excellent knife for price,i paid 10 dollars, these are made by sanrenmu, theyre excellent, and i doubt the steel is 420j,but think it is 8cr13mov,holds edge pretty good and steel behaves like other 8cr knives from sanrenmu that i have
@@RobertSmith-us7gs Thanks for sharing that information. It is appreciated. The more you learn, the better. That is a good price and I hope that you get a lot of use out of that knife. Thanks for watching.
I use this as my edc. Had it for about 4 or 5 years now. It’s still great. Luv the handle. Very comfortable. I’ve bought a few as gifts over the years as well, including two last week on sale again at CdnTire $10.99.
That is a great price and it sounds like the knife has worked well for you and that is what you hope for when you buy one. I hope that you continue to get good use out of your knife. Thanks for sharing and watching.
Canadian Update 2.23 July 6th Kingsman 311 still going strong and FYI it’s $16.99+ tax,I just wanted a new one and came perfectly centered,,The old one is still going strong it does almost everything like prying out BBs and pellets out of pine board, I use it extensively and I don’t baby it, but it gets dull and is really good to sharpen.. And yes I did enjoy the video and I am enjoying the knife as well,,Thank You Sir…
Wow! I am glad that you have got such good use out of this knife. I hope they continue to work well for you. Thanks for the update and the comment. Take care
I use this knife regularly at work. I also need to sharpen it every time after heavy use. I cut zip ties with it no problem much easier than in this video but that's probably because of real life applications. I don't mind steels that dull quickly because sharpening often helps practice the skill of freehand stone sharpening so I'm all for cheap knives. Especially when they come as ergonomic as this one.
I am glad that you are getting good use out of this knife. I also don't mind sharpening my knife so I am okay with cheaper steels as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch.
Just picked this up at Canadian tire, on sale for $15.99 (reg $55). The store assistant has it and showed me his. Was debating on a 'Yukon Gear" for $29. I actually like the cheap Cabela's more. Seems I prefer the thumb studs and this Buck has blade play, plus not so sturdy handle it seems?! It isn't much longer in blade length, so will keep looking. But can not complain seeing the price. Another good one to learn sharpening with😊
If you are wanting a reliable budget knife I would suggest looking at the Kershaw or CRKT knives. They have been working well for me. Buck is also reliable though and apparently they have really good customer service. Thanks for watching.
@@thecanadianedge1Yah I have looked and even found a Kershaw at Mountain Equipment Company around $60. Wasn't to convinced on the look, but might consider it down the road. Buck has a life time warranty on factory faults, not wear and tear. But wasn't concerned if it is a low budged one like this. More like learning to see what is important for me, before spending more on a higher end knife. Still thinking of a German made one, but not a foldable edc knife. Considering Germany is now no longer producing any metal, might spend the money on the 'Wolfgans Ambulo'. It has a D2 steel. It could sell out, since the production there will no doubt be effected. Thanks for the feedback 😉
Totally love mine. Would not pay their supposed $60 price though. $20 was a fair price. Perfectly centred, no blade play after so many years. No rust either.
I just picked up one of these. Kingsman Knives and I noticed in the ad that the steel was downgraded from the 420J2 to a 3CR13 however I must have gotten old stock in that my knife boasted the 420J2 and still has the lifetime warranty. So far I like the knife but I will be judging for a while to come. by the way the sale price has jumped over he years to $14.99.
Glad you were able to get one and yes the price has gone up. I think you will enjoy using it and glad you got the better steel. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch.
I've had several of these. They sharpen easy ( dull easy as well) but what 2 expect for $10 On sale? The only issue I have with all the ones I've owned? The tip of the blade snaps off! I rather like it for a " beater" that I don't worry about losing. Cheers!
For the price, they are a good beater knife. Sorry yours got broken. Did you try sending it back to Buck and see if they replace it? Thanks for watching.
Glad you got it on sale. I think it is a nice little knife especially at the sale price. I hope that you get good use out of it and welcome to knife collecting. There are a lot of good channels to give you direction on knives to buy and to avoid and I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
In fairness to J-2 steel.....great corrosion resistance but poor edge holding. I like this steel in a knife when I am near salt water environments. I realize that I will need to touch up the J-2 blade after any kind of moderate cutting excercises. My approach to knife steel types is that it is a tradeoff of advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, Buck does a great job with heat treatment and edge technology giving it an edge up on competitors like products.
Thanks for the input Jay. I try to pay attention to the different steels but at the end of the day if I have to sharpen one knife more than another but it does the job, I am happy. Although, if I can get a deal on a knife with quality steel, I will buy it. Have a great day and thanks for watching.
Please help!! I just bought this 311 Kingsman Buck knife today at Canadian Tire. I have tried so hard to close it, and I have watched some videos too, but I cannot figure out how to close it??? What is the secret?
This is a liner lock knife so it has a silver metal bar on the inside of the handle that you need to push down toward the scale or handle and then pull down on the knife blade. Make sure that you keep your fingers out of the way so they don't get cut. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@thecanadianedge1 THANKS so much!! You can't imagine how frustrated I was. You made it look so easy on your video, but I just couldn't figure it out. I kept pressing the outside of the silver ridges, I almost broke my nail. I really appreciate your quick answer.
Glad to hear that you are getting good use out of them. It is always nice when you purchase a knife and it meets or beats your expectations. Thanks for watching.
I bought one on sale. Quickly discovered that j-steel is absolute junk. I was so disgusted that rather than give the knife away, I stuck it in a vice and destroyed it. BUCK should be ashamed of themselves for using this steel.
Sorry to hear that. I haven't used mine much so I can't really comment but I am surprised that Buck would not have better quality control. Thanks for watching.
@@thecanadianedge1 Yes...that steel has a pretty poor rep for good reason. SOFT as... ****. Mind you Buck's 420HC is pretty decent stuff as you likely know. One question.
