I work the gun desk at my local Canadian Tire. I found out about the sale when I clocked in. We had 75 in stock, and all were gone when I clocked out at 5
Thank you for your excellent review! Dec 2nd It is currently $12.49 at Canadian Tire in Montreal. My best wishes for your mother, I hope you were successful in your efforts.
I think Canadian Tire bought way more than they knew what to do with. It is on for less than $20 pretty much all over the country. It seems like each Canadian Tire store has their own price on these.
May God bless your mother with a joyful life for however long she remains in this world. I'm sure your mother has been a font of blessings for you, Jake, as you have been for her.
Picked this up today (Oct, 4th, 2022) at Burlington fairview Canadian Tire for $17.99 on sale. Glad I did, because I definitely would not pay the 50 + dollars that it goes for full price.
It seems that it is available at the sale price almost as much of the time as it is for the regular price, and it is definitley not worth their regular price.
Oct 31, last day of clearance: $19.97 in Ottawa, $18.95 in Gatineau (QC). Nice budget EDC, $9.95 - $14.95 would've been a fair price! Bought it with Gerber Paraframe I for my teenage boys, I have smaller hands and it fits OK.
This is such a great knife for the price. I bought it twice for $10 each and then i gave them both away and had to get my own but i paid $20 instead but its still definitely worth the price.
I just wish they would go with the regular 420HC that they use a lot of at BUCK, the 3Cr is just to low quality for these days. The prices I saw online about a year ago has 8Cr13MoV at very much the same price as 3Cr, so in my books they have every reason to use better steel. In my opinion.
Got one a couple months ago and I really like it. It’s small and lightweight. Looks good and has decent action. Steels pretty good for the price. Tip up and deep carry clip. Overall great for $10
I saw that it was at a special price at this flyer, and many Canadian Tire stores have it for less than the flyer. I think when they placed their order with BUCK a year or so ago they ordered more than they should have and the only solution is to sell them at a very low price - good for us.
Thanks Jake ...I just bought one here in Southern Ontario. Not the best blade material I have ever seen but very nice knife for $9.99. They had 6 or 7 left in Caledonia Ont. I also wanted to say I bought a Sanrenmu LAND 9104. on your recommendation and am very surprised at the quality of this knife. Only problem I have now is that I'm going to have to get the 9103 now...lol Very sorry to hear about your Mother's health issues. Hope for the best
Thank you David. I was very surprised at how good the Sanrenmu knives were when I first found out about them a few years ago, and this series of the larger 910x and 910Pro knives have knocked my socks off.
I found a rain check from Can Tire (Langford BC) for two of these knives dated June 8/17 @ $9.99 each and they have them back in stock now. Am going to pick them up this morning and hopefully they were worth the year and a half wait!
It does work well. I have had to sharpen mine already, and that usually doesn't happen that quickly for me, but when it is sharp it cuts quite well, I like the all belly blade shape.
It's been on sale a couple times; got one for 10 or 12 bucks (ha ha...) I've had it for over a year, and it holds up well. I have big hands too, but it's size & weight make it a preferred EDC item.
I just bought this Jake and u solved a mystery !! Wasnt sure why I'd never seen one before outside of Canadian Tire ....now I know lol....cheers .....Spook
I picked up three of these mid December 2019, two for gifts at CT for $9.97ea. Wish I'd got more. Great little folder. Just do it if you see this price again.
I bought one for $12.99 because I feel naked without a pocket knife and I wanted something small and inconspicuous for days when I have to cross the border by car between Canada and the US. If for any reason, it gets confiscated I'm not out much money. I'd never carry any of my favorite Benchmade or Spyderco EDC knives for fear of transgressing some made up rule. This is a great little knife for the price.
You need to be aware that most of the BUCK knives sold at Canadian Tire are made specifically for only Canadian Tire and are not made to the same standards as other buck knives. This Kingsman is one of those Canadian Tire only knives.
really love everything about it except the steel. handle looks very nice, unique bladeshape, deep carry clip. Even if they'd upgraded to 420HC I'd definitely buy it for like 15-25$usd.
I just got back from Canadian Tire where I bought the BUCK 323 ($40 instead of $60 - not sure yet if it's worth $40) that is on sale at Canadian Tire right now and got their last one. It has the 420HC and is a large knife (but a pouch instead of a pocket clip) They have a smaller BUCK on sale right now too, and an even larger one - but it has a combo blade (partly serrated).
They should be happy to give rainchecks, I think. But maybe it is a once stocked item only and once they are gone they are gone. I don't know. There is only one CanTire in our town but it's not too much of a drive to the next town that has a CanTire store.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge that is what is happening ironically. Always online looking for availabilities and good deals. Blades Canada is great on pricing, and they ship fast.
On sale in Quebec also. Sorry about your mother, I lost mine to cancer last September after one and a half years of battle, four years after my father passed away of the same hilliness, so I know how you may feel, my prayers are with you all.
Awesome video man! I looked at this knife and was pretty curious considering the price point. I think I'm gonna pick it up now. Also, nice to see a good, solid review from a fellow Canadian! Keep them coming brother
There are a lot of Canadian Tire stores that have it for a clearance price, so if your local store has it for more than $15 to $17 bucks keep looking. I still have one in a pkg that I would be willing to sell but with Canada Posts rates it doesn't really make much sense most of the time to mail a low cost knife.
Got it in Québec province today, for 16.99$ CAN instead of 59.99$. In 2023. I'm really happy. For me: it's simple as that. A 20$ good folding knife like that buck, or... a Spyderco equivalent that cost around 100-200$ instead. It's the only brand that is really over everybody else. For that kind of design. Cheers.
The thing that I don't like is that these special Buck branded knives are inferior to the knives that Buck sells in USA, that bothers me. Also, I wouldn't say that any of these Buck knives that are made exclusively for Canadian Tire are equivalent to anything from Spyderco. Still, they canclearly be worth the price - when they are on a hefty sale like you found.
I grabbed one, too, at $9.99. So why does the CTC flyer call it a Rutmaster? It is marked as the Select grade on the package. Avid and Pro are their higher grades. A Buck 311 is a traditional folder.
Back on sale... " Buck Liner Lock 3CR13 Steel Folding Knife with Pocket Clip $12.49, Valid February 16, 2018 - February 22, 2018 This is an advance preview, price not in effect " Quote from their sale alert.
Thanks ALAPINO. At my local Can Tire they are always at $17 and sometimes they drop down. WEIRDLY the website says $49.99 for that knife. and online they call the 311 the Rutmaster still but on the package it says it is the Kingsman. go figure. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/buck-rutmaster-folding-knife-1757082p.html
Canadian tires house brand stuff (outbound/huntshield/buck mini iceman/buck kingsman) always have unrealistic high "regular" price. This buck folder with 420j2, which is the worst/lowest grade steel possible for a folder, should have a regular price of maximum $15 ....
A fine knife and I bought two in Ontario 2019 at that price. A good little skinner. My question now is,is it legal to carry in Canada. I carry it every day so it would be good to know.
The knife is certainly legal to carry in canada. BUT it is illegal to carry any knife or any other device for for purpose of self defense. that is illegal, so don't do that. carry knife as a tool only. There are some illegal knives but this isn't one of them.
Thank you as I thought any knife that can be opened one handed was illegal. I also wish to say I am a rather critical person but you proved you know your stuff. In this case the quality of the metal. I have come to think its not just the metal Buck chooses to use but how well they heat treat it.
I've bought multiple of these knives on different occasions, albeit, only when they go on sale. It's a good knife, but not worth the current price of 54.99. I tend to give them away or use them until they're busted. Good video, cheers.
Picked one up for $10 really nice blade profile but I have one big complaint. The edge will bump against the second pin from the bottom. Not a big deal for $10 knife but for $50 I'd be upset. Wondering if anyone else had this happen
Oh, that is too bad. I bought a bunch when it was on for $10 and none of those 6 had that problem. With 420J2 , that could do some quick damage to the blade at that point.
Very good, detailed review. I went down to CT today after seeing your review and picked one up for $14.99. VERY sharp. Nice, handy little knife. can you tell me what the the bevel of the edge is? My sharpening system requires that I set the degree of bevel, ie, 15 degrees or 19 degrees etc. Thanks if you can help me out.
I no longer have mine, so I cannot tell you what the factory did but no matter what they did at the factory, I would sharpen this knife to 20° or the closest to that number that you can get on your sharpener. Also, since January I have been measuring the grinds that factories do on theri knives and knives in this price range are very poorly sharpened for the most part, even BUCK knives. One side ALWAYS has a different grind angle than the other, and usually that difference is more than 5°. I like to put a new grind of 20° on the vast majority of my EDC folding knives.
Thanks for watching Dan. These seem to go on sale quite often. I did hear from someone that Canadian Tire is going to stop carrying all BUCK knives. I haven't seen them phased out in my town though.
Prices for knives from China (99% of what I review) haven't changed much at all in the last year. I wouldln't buy it for $20CAD but it woudn't be a complete loss if you decided to get one at that price. You could do worse for that price.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge Thanks got the gerber instead. Was reg 65 for 20. Whatever I can't expect to find deals on nicer knives now I guess? In your opinion can you find better deals online or instore for most things. I usually go to the store but willing to switch if the deals are same or better including delivery.
"Rutmaster". Odd name. Go figure. Snapped one up for $9.99 CDN in Toronto. No brainer. $49.99 no way. Nice blade shape. Light. Pretty solid. Made in China; no surprise there. I wonder who made it? Pivot is a bit stiff. Would have preferred a flat as opposed to a hollow grind. Spine is fairly sharp. I have to agree on the hardness/sharpness of the glass filled handle. I'm very sorry to hear about your mother (I've been writing this during your video or I would have said something sooner. ). I lost my mom 13 years ago (pancreatic cancer), my father, 23 years ago (prostate cancer). Have you looked into drug studies at nearby hospitals, particularly teaching hospitals? Sometimes they have studies that involve late stage cancers. My mom's cancer was too far gone for the surgeon to biopsy her to qualify for the study at Toronto General Hospital, but you never know. It's worth a look.
I would definitely question the price of $54.95 or $45 that Canadian Tire advertises in my opinion. They are a $20 knife at best, made in China for Buck for Canadian Tire. Hard to close, questionable steel for a Buck . For $10 is just ok in my opinion. Good video..tx
I think Canadian Tire plans to sell them at a huge discount to make people think they are getting an awesome deal with HUGE savings. But if they were normally $19.99 they would probably sell well enough that they would not need to put them on sale at 60 or 70 percent off. I think it's 90% marketing decisions to try to create clearance sales (sales that last for many many months in some cases. - at least in my local store the BUCK Min-Iceman was on sale for over a year, until they ran out of stock.
Picked up 2 in Ottawa yesterday for $9.99. One for me and one for my nephew. Thought it was a bit bigger but for $10 who gives a shit. Took me a while to figure out how to close it lol.
Yeah, I wonder if CT bought way too many of them? It cool also be that CT has planned to loose money on them. Many stores have things that they call "loss leaders" - products that they sell for less than they paid to get them into the store because they can act like lures to get people into the store in the hope that they will then buy other stuff as well. Apparently this type of marketing works on humans as well as it works on fish.
Using a knife on a human is not recommended in Canada unless your life depends on it. You can get into more trouble than the mugger if you pull out a knife to protect your stuff in Canada.
It was on sale for just under $10 at my local CT just before this past Christmas, and it goes on for that price about 3 or 4 times a year. Keep an eye out for such a sale at your local CT if you want one.
Canadian Tire does indeed have a lot of garbage. But the reason it isn't on the BUCK site is because they made it especially for Canadian Tire. Also, I don't only review good knives. I review knives that I think my viewers want to have information about, that is why I bought this knife and tested it and reviewed it. I am not sponsored or supported by CT in any way whatsoever.
I work the gun desk at my local Canadian Tire. I found out about the sale when I clocked in. We had 75 in stock, and all were gone when I clocked out at 5

no real success.
my only beef is that the glass filled nylon feels like plastic but for 10 bucks its probably better than a bear grylls knife
A mashed then sharpened aluminum can is better than a Grylls knife.
Bought 3 a couple of months ago 10.99 in Ontario
They often go on a big discount. So I always suggest people wait for a sale to guy knives from Canadian Tire
9,99 in Cambridge, Ontario.
Yes, I got word back last week from around the country that this knife was on sale for $9.99 all over.
16.95 cdn tire today on sale from 70$
I saw that in the flyer too. for $17CAD you could do a lot worse I guess.
Yes, my sister is a RN, she has been helping my mother find the best care.
I would definitely question the price of $54.95 or $45 that Canadian Tire advertises in my opinion. They are a $20 knife at best, made in China for Buck for Canadian Tire. Hard to close, questionable steel for a Buck . For $10 is just ok in my opinion. Good video..tx
I hear you. thanks for leaving a comment, fender444
great little beater for work prefer not to take my spidy military
Yeah, it is a knife that can do the majority of EDC jobs. I prefer to use a beater knife instead of my nice knives most of the time too.
Just bought one Today 9.99
I took it back,its made in china,Buck says its full usa,not true,,,,liars
However I would definitely buy it for $ 7 = 6 euros
Exactly my thoughts too.
Great design, not so great steel. Worth the $10 I paid. Can't see how they justify a $50 MSRP.
- at least in my local store the BUCK Min-Iceman was on sale for over a year, until they ran out of stock.
ib quebec its been 29.99$ for months and the normal price was 119.99$ i dont get this province ?!?!?
Doesn't make sense. Right now, I checked yesterday, it's $18 at my local Canadian Tire.
Canadian Cutting Edge hmmm weird ill check it out
They like to abuse the buck name lol😡
Canadian Cutting Edge now the knife is 12.99$
My go to beater folder 😂...
at this price that is exactly the best role for it.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge To be honest it's a pretty sturdy knife...
7 years later, its 16.99 but im still gonna buy it tomorrow 😂
They do go on sale from time to time, but who knows when that will happen next.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge it was on sale (30%)
Picked up 2 in Ottawa yesterday for $9.99. One for me and one for my nephew. Thought it was a bit bigger but for $10 who gives a shit. Took me a while to figure out how to close it lol.
LOL. It is a nice knife for $10, I am hearing reports that stores are selling out quickly.
Lol, me too. I had to hand it over to my wife after 5 minutes. She opened it immediatley, and then gave me THAT smile that she does.
Hey, a friend of mine picked one of these up, and out of curiosity, how *do* you close it?
Got one and for 13$ its aws2😃
They were on for a great price last week
2021 and they're $6.95 now bins full of them N.S
Yeah, I wonder if CT bought way too many of them?
It cool also be that CT has planned to loose money on them. Many stores have things that they call "loss leaders" - products that they sell for less than they paid to get them into the store because they can act like lures to get people into the store in the hope that they will then buy other stuff as well. Apparently this type of marketing works on humans as well as it works on fish.
I like it
it is nice and the price makes it even nicer
Awesome i meant to say lol
:)
cant wait for someone to rob me 😂
Using a knife on a human is not recommended in Canada unless your life depends on it. You can get into more trouble than the mugger if you pull out a knife to protect your stuff in Canada.
i just bought it for 9.99$ from canadian tire, well its ok for 10 dollors.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
God bless jak
thanks
oh subed
THANKS!!
very good design but 420j2...........................................................
Yeah, at $50 I would never have touched it. 75 years ago steel like 420J2 was premium - how times have changed.
👍👍👍💙
thanks
2024 and now this knife is 24.99 reguler pris
It was on sale for just under $10 at my local CT just before this past Christmas, and it goes on for that price about 3 or 4 times a year. Keep an eye out for such a sale at your local CT if you want one.
Took it back to Can Tire, made in china ,stamped on blade,
Buck says its full usa,its not, liars
Buck don't have it on website coz it's garbage like everything else at canadian tire r u sponser by CT
Made in china
yes, it is
