Just picked it up at Canadian Tire for 12.49. Came hair shaving sharp. 3.9 oz, blade length right in between a 110 and 112. Not an heirloom, but what I like about it is, unlike the 110 and 112, it has a pocket clip (deep carry) and you can take it apart for cleaning. With a little practice, you can one hand flick open or gravity open with a couple flicks of the wrist. Full stainless liners as well. Picked one up for my brother too. Five of these or one Buck 110...? I'll take five of these...
Hi Jarrid. Glad you like the knife. I hope you get lots of use out of it. I have the 112 and it is a great knife but like you say, no pocket clip. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for posting this useful information. The Matrixx knife is almost certainly a genuine China Buck knife. Fakes are generally copies of existing models and as you say it is not listed on the Buck site. It is most likely a contract knife made exclusively for Canadian Tire so it would not be expected to be mentioned on the Buck site. For the price you paid I would have expected a knife with plastic scales and a low-carbon steel blade that could not hold an edge. You don't get much for 10 or 20 bucks these days so aluminum scales and 420HC steel blade are real bonuses.
I believe that you are correct in saying these are exclusive to Canadian Tire and if you get them at the sale prices it is a good deal. Thanks for the kind word and sharing your information on this knife. Thanks also for watching. Cheers.
Oh I have a bunch of knives some cheap to expensive. Im always on the look out and at crappy tire for a good deal and even on the budget ones. I cant forget my knife roots. I put a thumb stud on my matrix 3.3 I had to pay 20 bucks wish it was 12. I had wanted a cheaper deal as crappy tire actually gives real sales. I sharpened mine and had to even up the edge so I laid mine back to match the other side and gave it a mirror polish and adjusted the end of the pocket clip and I love mine. I went back to get another but was sad to find out they discontinued and there were none left at any of the stores. I dont think its overly heavy look at the 110 or overly thick. It fits my hand with none to spare and it has bucks awesome 420 hc heat treated steel for a third of the price. A good shaped and sized blade thats a big win in my book!
Hi Alan. I keep an eye on Can. Tire to see if they have any sales on their knives. I am glad you were able to make the Matrix work for you. I considered putting a thumb stud on it but I don't carry it so I decided not to. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching.
Thank you for your video! I'm looking at buying one but I have zero knowledge of knives. The reason I want to buy one is 1) for work & 2) for my own protection (and my dog's) at the farm as there's lots of coyotes. If you were to recommend a knife for those uses, which would you recommend? Any and all help you can give is greatly appreciated!
Hi Graeme. It would be fine for those purposes. You could also look at some of the Kershaw or CRKT knives with a G-10 handle and flipper or thumb stud opening for quicker deployment and better grip. I got the Kershaw Asteroid for a friend and they are quite inexpensive and would do what you want. If you get the Buck on sale it will definitely work. It all depends on your budget. Thanks for watching.
I got one of these Chinese made Buck knives on sale at Crappy Tire as well, just for the purpose of having such a thing in my collection. All the other Buck's I own are US made, btw. Although, I agree with you about it not being worth $40, on sale for less than half the price, it does make for a decent "beater" knife to keep in your toolbox or to lone to friend who's not a knife enthusiast like us...
Does it come with the Paul Bos heat treatment? Did the packaging show a "Forever Warranty" label? Would the Chinese made bucks go back to Post Falls for repair? Or somewhere else? Did you note any blade play? Any direction, in this model? Just curious.......
I would have to do some research on your first couple of questions. I purchased it at Canadian Tire and the warranty said 1 year replacement from the store. There was no blade play, in any direction, in the knife that I have. It seems sturdy enough. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it is a real Buck, who makes many knives exclusively for CT. Full lifetime warranty and 420HC. But some of the latter Buck knives, while well designed, use cheap 7Cr steel. Read the package!
True. I may have been harder on the knife than I should have been. I do like Buck knives. I might pick up the Nobleman. Thanks for watching and commenting.
There’s nothing wrong with this CT exclusive Buck. I have a couple, one stays in the SUV. Price on sale was great. That said I think the Buck Kingsman (also a CT) is a much better knife, especially the handle. It’s my daily carry and a go to gift for friends. It also comes on sale 3 or 4 times per year at $10-14.
Thanks for sharing that. I didn’t mind this knife and I see it on sale regularly. I am glad it has proved to be a good knife for you. Enjoy and thanks for watching.

This is a Buck knife made in China for Canadian Tire which is why it's not listed on Bucks official website .
Canadian Tire has a history of contracting their own Buck models, which don't make it to Buck's website, because Buck plays no part in marketing them. This Matrixx model is a decent knife - how can you complain about a $13 Buck with 420HC? I bought two of them, and so far, they are doing fine. CT overprices ALL of their in house knife models, so you have to be patient and wait until they inevitably put them on sale at 50%+ off.
I just wasn't sure this was a Buck knife when I first bought it. I have since sold it and I hope the owner is getting good use out of it. Thanks for watching.
I like both Gerber and Buck. They both tend to make reliable knives. I am glad you found one that works for you. Thanks for commenting and watching. Cheers.
I just got one of these for 15 bucks from crappy tire... a great budget blade... much better than their previous budget attempt (the kingsman) you really need to work on your hand skills of you can’t open this with one hand... took me all of 1 minute to figure out how to one hand it... much better knife than you lead on for the price
Hi Shawn. Thanks for your comment. I struggle with hand skill as I have muscular dystrophy. That is why I prefer flipper opening knives. Just my preference. It is not a bad knife, especially for the sale price but it is not a knife that appealed much to me. I am glad you are liking it though and I hope that it works well for you. Thanks for watching.
I have medium size hands also but I would have to put some lubrication on the pivot to use it one handed . The pivot is a little stiff on this one. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Glad you found it helpful and that you didn't end up with a knife that you might not enjoy. I hope you found a knife that you are happy with. Thanks for taking the time to watch.
They do put this knife on sale a lot so watch for a sale if you are wanting to get one. Worth it at the sale price. although they don't go as low as $12.99 any more. Thanks for watching.
@@thecanadianedge1 I love the content, im still new to the knife collecting world, and there isnt really a lot of high end stuff available in Thunder Bay, so i love seeing the reviews and recommendations. Im still a novice at sharpening, any recommendations on a decent coarse/medium/fine grit stone for a novice and possibly an assisted device to go with them? Would love some advice if its no trouble, please and thanks.
@@kylekostamo1880 Welcome to knife collecting and say good bye to your bank account 🙂. For sharpening, I have been using the Work Sharp precision sharpener, (see my video review) and it works well and is easy to use. You can also get different grit stones to use in it. You may have to order knives online and there are a few Canadian dealers online. Enjoy your knives and again welcome to the community.
@@thecanadianedge1 awesome thank you. Im also a retro game collector so i dlnt have much of a bank acct already lol. Googled it... top of the pile was Canadian Tire. Maybe an authorized piece in name only ?
That was all I could find also.
Just picked one of these up today and i like it . It's very sharp out of the package and very solidly built and feels good in hand .
It wasn't too bad. I only paid $12.50 for mine so I can not complain. Glad you like it.
@@thecanadianedge1 Yeah i missed the sale unfortunately but still 40 bucks ain't bad at all .
The canadian CUTTING edge lol thanks for doing a video on this Canadian tire special.

If you put your the tip of your thumb into the nail stuff, you can actually open this knife with one hand like a Spyderco.
