Why Are Teslas Getting So Expensive!

- Tesla’s Secret Master Plan was always about finding the way to deliver an “affordable” electric vehicle. But as the economy shifts to electric vehicles and the price for Tesla’s Model 3 (their mass-market vehicle) continues to increase, is the vision of a truly affordable EV fading away and if you’re in the market for a new vehicle, are prices going to get even higher from here?

Ordered my Model Y in August. Picked it up in February. It is now $9,000 higher than I paid. I think that is absurd and know that many have taken Tesla off their list. As a Tesla stockholder I probably should be happy but I am not. It is too bad that more cannot afford one.
It's bad for the brand in the long run
It’s getting ridiculous in terms of the Tesla price increases. The original idea was to have an affordable electric vehicle for the masses, but I think Elon has gotten away from that. After initially considering a Tesla, I bought the Mach-e last May and have been extremely happy with it. As with a lot of vehicles today, it’s likely worth more than what I paid for it.
Yeah.. I’m the type to wait, do research and wait some more. But unless Tesla plans on introducing a smaller 25K vehicle, the Model 3 is no longer a viable option with the price increases.
In germany they increase the model 3 price but model y isn’t yet increased
This channel deserves a LOT more views. One of the best EV channels I've seen.
I'm in the market for my very first EV, and I really, REALLY wanted to get a model 3, but I couldn't justify spending $12,000 more for something that was being sold for just $35,000 last year. In the end, I wound up pre-ordering a 2023 bolt EUV premier trim, fully loaded, for thousands less than the starting MSRP of a model 3. Not to mention with Chevy including free installation of a level 2 charger, it was music to the ears of a first time buyer like myself.
I hate Chevy but they seem like the better bet for cost.
@@r.d.9399 truth is, no one can match the value that GM is currently offering. While everyone is increasing prices, GM is the only one reducing them, and it's too good of a deal to pass up.
@@damonekstrom4363 I really hate Tesla for their ridiculous prices. I want to buy one, but I just can't afford it. Even their cheapest, base Model 3 is too much.
Unfortunately, Tesla is king when it comes to charging availability and vehicle tech(especially their autopilot/FSD). So I'm kind of stuck.
@@Superman-xr1oh Tesla has a good reputation, and for good reason, but if they want EVs to take the world by storm, it's never going to happen so long as their vehicles aren't available at mass market friendly prices. Until they are, the competition is going to take advantage of that. Right now the cheapest Tesla is a base model 3 that will run you $50,000, and the fact that all that gets you is a little RWD sedan is really unfortunate.
At the end of the day Tesla needs to start being more competitive with their prices, because it's not going to take long for the competition to catch up. I'm a perfect example of the type of consumer that they need to cater to. I'm a first time EV buyer, and I could have easily been another investor in Tesla, but their high prices instead turned me on to their competition. Simply put, I can get a lot more value for my dollar elsewhere, because I'm not looking for a premium car, but instead a practical one.
For a common man how can ev be affordable. Id just drive my old petrol car and pay for petrol instead of buying this super expensive ev car which will loose its value in 5 years
Very True. Especially since tesla still doesn't have the Range and Some Features I would like when investing into a EV Platform/Lifestyle
Best price change rundown I have seen.
Great explanation!
Got a BMW i3 its held its value for the last 2.5 years the 2nd hand price has been virtually stagnant, the chip shortage means I maybe able to trade it in for virtually what I got it for lol.
Due to short supply second hand cars have good value still
10/10 thumbnail 😅
I think they definitely have
There's a local "used car" dealership that's buying Teslas and reselling them for a lot more than retail.
Tesla is simply price gouging. If you think gouging is limited to auto dealers, you are flat out wrong. This video was just damage controlling for Tesla. Not once was a justification given for the price increases besides "Supply & Demand", which is exactly what auto dealer use for its widely criticized price gouging.
So Tesla is no different than the legacy automakers they like to demonize...figures.
They've always been for the upper income folks except for the few months they offered the base model. Although I find them quite boring and a poor value for the money. Fortunately there are good choices now and more arriving.
It is why I drive V8 Sequoia in Texas. Fuck electric. I can go 400K miles in my Toyo
I drive an 03 civic but I’m already at 334k miles.
I’m scared any sec it’s just gonna 💥 on me 😫
Good video! Lithium alone is the largest bottleneck going forward. There are a lot of misconceptions about cost of lithium vs actual amount used in a vehicle. E.g. you might have heard 10kg of lithium is in an average vehicle, but that would more likely be the refined chemical product, not the amount of LCE (Lithium Carbonate Equivalent) that would take to make that Li-ion 🔋. The current market is priced in LCE not pure Lithium. Some estimate close to a kg LCE per kWh. With prices of over $70/kg LCE we are looking at close to $7,000 for a 100 kWh battery.
The good news is LFP chemistry uses less lithium, no nickel or cobalt, and can theoretically be less expensive than NMC or other chemistries.
So final thoughts, more investment in Lithium is needed to bring those prices down or we could see demand destruction in EV’s.
Cheapest Tesla today on the UK market is 31,650 GBP. Speak to me bruh!
This is real silly, according to the BLS the average American makes around 53K Per Year. The cheapest Tesla is the Model 3 , the basic one comes it at 60K . What's the purpose of claiming to save the planet if the average Americans, the ones who do the most driving cannot afford one?
Makes sense, it costs more to make a product that doesn't fall apart.
Quality has gotten better over the years…
Is tesla made from nickel and why its expensive ?
Or because nickel export are banned from other country
I can’t afford anything 😃
😭
Took delivery of my Model Y here in the UK on Thursday 17th March - the car is awesome! Check out my youtube videos of the thousands of Teslas at the port of Southampton where I collected the car on Thursday.
I'll wait for your full length review 😉
Tesla has to do better. It's beyond ridiculous at this point. People are going to blame the pandemic for the next 20 years.
It's an easy scape goat.
