Harry has more courage than all the royals put together. He is standing up to the press alone. The royals took the cowards way out and settled out of court, which ment the press were not made accountable.

I have wondered if the reason that he didn't go to Balmoral when she asked is that he could not face the Queen knowing what he was writing about the family. That he was a bit gutless.

I guess he did go to the Coronation and that took some nerve, but I noticed he arrived with Beatrice and Eugenie. That walk of shame when he went to his seat smiling and waving at people who clearly wanted to ignore him was hilarious… not to mention the feather doing the work of hiding him from most of the televised service. 🤣

he is a whiny petulant child, and would probably have never even tried to get to Balmoral, but his wife, or one of his handlers said, hey, this is a bad look, and if the Queen is dying, you should be there for fodder for your book. It makes such a lovely change to hear a YT'er who does not dismiss King Charles III as a 'wimp' or a 'wastrel' (as I read the other day) but points out his sterling work as the Prince of Wales over nearly fifty years as the creator and Head of the Princes Trust. His support for the environment has been similarly groundbreaking with his backing of organic farming amongst other initiative's. He has recently signed over millions to the British Government instead of holding onto his profits from offshore Windfarms - not that this has received much attention. Instead of his many achievements he is STILL dragged over his disastrous marriage to Diana despite the fact they separated in 1992! That's 32 years ago, a lifetime by anyone's reckoning. Thank you Shauna, I thoroughly enjoyed your review, and your putting of the Gruesome Twosome firmly in their place. 🥰🥰🥰

Not all people. He can be very hard to work for. For example, commanded that someone come all the way to Balmoral from London for a meeting and at that meeting sacked him. Also has tried to get the NHS to spend scarce resources on alternative treatments which have no proven benefits just because he personally 'believes' in them. You need to read Tom Bower’s book on Charles to get a more balanced view of a very spoiled man. ‘Rebel Prince’
It will help you understand Harry better. Charles also did books and interviews whining about his family. Most likely it is why he is frozen as to doing anything to Harry, because he’d done the same thing without a narcissistic wife to bolster him.

His father replied to him, "I have made my reputation, and you are making yours now, so think long and hard about your actions." That conservation stuck with my husband for all these many years. It was the unfortunate Diana effect. People are easily blinded by beauty. I on the other hand was more impressed with how stoic he was and used his influence on so many things but ignored mostly by the tabloids. He persevered even when he was constantly being vilified by the masses. If he severed the titles from the Harkles his popularity will skyrocket.

Robert Hardman was interviewed on Sydney Today programme the other day and clearly said that when H and M called the queen about using the name, they TOLD her they’d done it, they didn’t ask her if it was ok. He said they said “Lillibet” not Elizabeth.

I am glad this book is such an accurate account of the King, as a Brit from his generation I believed the concerns he was raising over the years were real. That the media could not shut him up with their at times constant mockery, laughing at these opinions show his true quality.
Not forgetting the 1.2 million young Brits from tough backgrounds, many from our ethnic minorities, who through The PrincesTrust he has given a leg up to help succeed.
Even now the King, as his speech to OPEC showed will not be shut up by a government who I am certain are tying to muzzle him over his environmental concerns. I hope he continues for many years to quietly, within the bounds available, to be a thorn in the side of every government who put their own interests above the protection of the environment and those of the people who elected them.

Generationally, I grew up,with Camilla as the cruel other woman that tortured our beloved Diana. It’s not my story to ever know, but I agree with you about watching their happiness and joy over the years. When it was first released, before all the controversy amped up, I was watching the first Netflix episode with my sister. As the show portrayed their quintessential love story, I turned to her and said, “you know the really true great love story in the family is Charles and Camilla and because of circumstances it will never be seen that way”. If I said that today, given the cynicism and disdain I feel towards the Sussexes, it would be shade on them, but at the time it was watching this sentimental portrayal of love and being struck by how happy Charles and Camilla were in their love, and its duration, persistence etc.
As to Harry being capable of an objective perception, I honestly don’t. I hate how we appropriate words defining serious conditions into pop culture, use them loosely and then inadvertently minimize what it means to have that illness-so I’m not going to diagnose PH-but the man is clearly not emotionally healthy and there is a continual perceptional distortion, in his stories, appearances etc. wherein the things that happen to him are caused by other people or circumstances. This is his personal narrative on virtual anything I have ever heard him describe. With all that said ( and then some 🙃) I am more than confident to say the Duchess suffers (and therefore those around her suffer) from a Narcissistic Personality Disorder-cause her symptoms are as self evident as albinism. And at minimum, that’s the partner who he shapes his world with.

The genuine feelings they have for one another shows in their faces and Queen Camilla seems to be a wonderful support and caring help for her husband in the very responsible role he has. How sad that they had to wait so long to be able to marry. All those years ago Charles married Diana (having been encouraged to do so) but realistically, in hindsight, they were totally unsuited. However, without that marriage, we would not have William, Prince of Wales. Life is strange sometimes.

So pleased that Robert Hardman has been able to represent the royals and give the truthful versions. The more H and M spew their jealous ,nastiness the more people appreciate the true royals. If M does do her memoir, the only way it will be a bestseller is if all details of her life are included, not just more royal bashing. It has to include all the rumours that are constantly surfacing as more and more people are talking and talking. The major one to be addressed is the surrogacy rumours for which their silence is deafening.

@maggieswithenbank6709 Even when a liar lies, you can learn a lot about what's really going on. Take the multiple stories of how they met and started dating, for example; the fact that there are multiple and they always get really squirrelly about it suggests there is something there that's important and would look bad, and when you compare the stories you can at least piece together a few guesses. Or for a more straightforward example: Harry, in Spare, claiming Meghan wasn't a bully it's just that all these talented people were suddenly incompetent and she HAD to correct them constantly (which we can interpret as "nag" and "berate") and the constant correction left them in floods of tears daily (because Meghan was bullying them), which somehow had to do with racism against Meghan in the press (Harry doesn't know what racism is and just throws it out to see if it will stick and might cover for their bad behaviour. I really hope she writes a book and I hope it sells worse than Spare and Endgame even. I hope she regrets it for the rest of her life, but we get some good laughs.

Harry had got on perfectly alright with Camilla. His gripes began later. But he and William had both accepted that " she made their father happy." That was the mature way to accept her. Not a substitute for their mother...but acceptance for their father's sake. William understood that.

It was almost midnight in Kansas when I luckily scrolled onto your fresh podcast and fabulous review ~ SO glad I tuned in. You’re always so enthusiastic Shauna - this book sounds amazing and I look forward to discovering more when my copy arrives ~ Best wishes from a Royalist Brit now living in the USA 🇺🇸

Fascinating insight. I was especially surprised about what was going on with the arrangement of travel to the Queens deathbed. How warped is Harry? Leading us all to believe or to imply that William completely ignored him. I never gave it a thought that if William talked to him whatever was said would be in the book. Also enjoyed how you divided the book up into subjects and addressed it each that way. Really appreciate all the effort you have put into this.

Excellent review, Shauna. I've always avoided reading a lot of the royal biographies -usually because of the fear of partisan authorship - but this seems to very balanced. I'll give it a go! Cheers!

Very few 30 minutes long [roughly] UA-cam videos manage to keep me engaged. This was riveting and it left me wanting more [you've convinced me to buy the book]. Brilliant review! It's good to know that the other side of the coin is being recognized in a dignified and measured manner, and also that King Charles enjoys performing his duties as King despite the targeted attacks of the Montecito moaners. No "WAHHH" tome from the King! I watched it twice!!!

Thank you Shauna - another book to add to my wish list. You've piqued my interest with this review. I do wonder why Harry didn't rent a helicopter when he 'missed' the flight. Afterall he's a pilot, right?

Thank you for the excellent review Shauna. As they say, ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS! How this typifies what Robert Hardman is portraying in this book. Compare all the actions/results from the work of King Charles to the pitiful word salad out of the California duo. Its too bad that more people don't spend their time thinking about what is real rather than blindly believing the garbage that a lot of the media propagates. I am glad that we have you and people like Robert Hardman to bring thoughtful and articulate realism to the our attention. 😊

I wonder if part of Queen Margrethe's thinking when she decided to abdicate was seeing Charles go through the loss of his mother while assuming the throne and going through all of the engagements and being steady face for a mourning public. (And, of course, she went through this when her own father died.) As it turned out, her own son could assume the throne in a much less stressful, joyful context.

Thank you for such an interesting review of this book. I can't wait to read it. RH paints a very different picture of KCIII than we have heard/read from reporters that he jealously guards his popularity and the press he receives. I feel that H&M believe this false narrative and do their best to compete for headlines when they know an important event is coming up for C & W&C. It is all so petty and childish and has not really worked as their popularity has steadily decreased in the US. I have always believed that KCIII is a hard worker and not as concerned with publicity as others have made out. He has been doing such amazing fork for more years than H can comprehend. The very fact he started the Prince’s Trust at such a young age and has always been heavily involved in the work is proof positive for me. He has always been way ahead of the rest of the world and other experts in his fight for the environment.
This sounds like a really great book and I will be purchasing rather than borrowing this one from the library. I am so glad you have given us such a genuinely positive overview of it. Thank you again.

Dear Shauna. This is great! So timely. I'm going on vaca tomorrow, and was considering getting the book (on Kindle), but I didn't want to buy it if it was another Harry & Meghan book. After your video, I see that the book really is about the King, so I just bought it for my Kindle (I'm in US)! About the only good thing I can say about Harry and Meghan is that a lot of people who wouldn't have admired KCIII, have great affection for him now. He is so modest that very few people know about all the good he has done, to include the Princes Trust. I look forward to reading this book. Thank you!
