Great to see Scott here. I read the study commissioned by the DOE that Scott helped author on natural gas reserves in the 4 major US shale plays. As the US consumes around 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas per year looks like, according to Scott’s study we’re lucky to have 50 years worth left.
Add the fact we’re exporting 12.5 billion cubic feet per day (enough to heat 60 million American homes every day) so the IS exporters can make higher profits while the US domestic price rises and anyone with sense knows we better develop all forms of energy ASAP.

Great line in the middle of his misinformation. His career has been in oil and gas and he's being paid by oil and gas companies to spread the garbage keynote around the world. He totally ignoring the biggest parts of renewables story or any of the modern innovations in renewable energy. Solar panel farms no longer get knocked out by hail or snow, wind turbines are not getting barred. 95% of EV car batteries are recycled meaning they don't need to be mined over and over again. Nuclear is making a come back. All facts he is leaving out. I can go on and on about 100 things he's leaving out.

I'm no scientists, I'm just an electronics major. But I have been making the same arguments for years. All you need to do is look at a chart of energy density by source. The answers are clear. Nuclear, with all it's trade-offs, is still the ONLY technology that exists today that can possibly solve the world's need for energy (NEED, not want), while reducing emissions enough to matter on a global scale. Why? Energy density. Simple Joules per Kg of material. Then compare it to Lithium-Ion battery storage. Anyone who can do basic arithmetic can see that it's the only way out of the trap. Even then, we still need portable sources of energy, and when you compare Gasoline/Diesel/Natural Gas to Li-Ion or Solar you see why we still use it.

Really??? This is 'the facts'?? As a former government forest scientist in Ontario, Canada who was fired in 1982 for daring to present THE FACTS about the abuse of Ontario's forests to see their demise despite warnings from forest scientists, this reminds me of the slick presentations of those who were only interested in protecting the status quo, no matter what the writing really was 'on the wall'. (By the way, as predicted by 1971, many of Canada's largest forest product mills had closed their doors, leaving devastated communities in their wake). Take one example of the deep hypocrisy behind this video. About 7 minutes in, Mr. Tinker credibly notes that 'poor countries cannot afford to clean up their environments'.... Real science does NOT exclude all the factors needed to be considered in any 'hypothesis' The reality IS that, for the sake of profiteering, only, vast resources on this planet have been removed from geographies that are now impoverished. This, unthankfully, comes at the hands of, as Mr. Tinker does imply, formerly rich nations which now teeter on the brink of major 'economic' crises BECAUSE they left so many parts of this planet impoverished, for their own gain. This FACT is something that big business, ESPECIALLY the Economic Geology field Mr. Tinker seems most vested in, refuse to acknowledge in slick presentations like this. Twenty minutes with slick pics does NOTHING to create 'civil dialogue' on a REAL PROBLEM facing our species. It merely serves to STEER the dialogue in the direction which the friends of 'the presenter' will sponsor and then applaud. Visit the ARC goals to understand WHY this is a major problem in this presentation. Don MacAlpine, formerly of Nipigon, Ontario CANADA

There need not be any emotional tie to this or any other so-called controversial topics.
How many people will say “I feel like…” and how many say “I think that…”
Last but not least, take the Thomas Sowell approach:
There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.
So we must ask ourselves these three questions.
    1. At what cost?
    2. Compared to what?
    3. What data do we have to support?

@@Randsurfer Here's what I got out of Dr. Miller's presentation. 1) It's obvious that oil and gas won't last forever. We have an electric future, just not at the schedules mandated by the government. There's no way California can go full EV by 2035. They lack generating capacity, a grid, infrastructure, and automobile manufactures just can't make that many EV. We all know this. Last week Ford, GM and Toyota pulled out of the EV market. 2) The poor can't afford expensive solar and wind. The Admin has a policy of scarcity, keeping people poor. A better way is to help the people become more wealthy, then not only can they afford cleaner energy, they care more about the environment. 3) Remember the clean, reliable and abundant triangle? Everything pollutes. The clean energy is polluting. Everything is a tradeoff. Too me, nuclear is the most obvious least bad solution. 4) India is just get started and they already said to F... Off, they are going for coal. Nuclear would be better. 5) And this is just my point of view. I'm an engineer. Most of my friends are educated and to the left. They LOVE flying to Europe and Machu Pichu. Yet, all of them are concerned about the climate, want heavy mandates, but know they won't have to change their life styles much. They can afford it. If it's so bad, why don't they change? Stop flying? They all have $300/m electric bills. I want them to lead by example instead of mandating poverty to the poor and lower middle class. That's what I got out of it, a reminder that every source of energy is a tradeoff, stop exporting our pollution, and the poor can't afford clean energy. I hope this helps. All the best Landsurfer.

Hello from austria and thank you for the access to this kind of information. This topic is decades old and still going on.
Our postal trucks here in austria were electric allready in 1910 or something. There were also electric cars from 1905 like the Viktoria that could travel for 50 miles or 80 kilometers allready back then.
I was also lucky to run into a Dr. who was in his late 70's 3 years ago in Vienna who told me about working for the government on a project in the 60's.
While driving around the former minister back then in an electric car, the minister said to him something like "You will see, in the next 10 years Electric cars will rise to 10% to 20% of all cars". We are now coming to the end of 2023 and we were at 2.1% in reality while at the same time that is of course no real solution to anything.
The left vs right ramble has to stop and politics and education have to return back to where they were. Seperate from each other as much as possible.
When the time has come that professors get fired for asking and debating questions (and people in other fields of work) it is the time to ask questions rather than stop asking questions.
There is no need for a better climate when we accept Monsantos approach for example of creating a seed monopoly etc.
Politicians get elected for a reason and I can not understand why some managers have a law based responsibility but politicians don't.
Nobody is accountable for anything and nobody is actually nobodies boss.
What I found very interesting is, that someone like A. Getty sponsors the climate emergency fund which sponsory the climate glue people for example (who get paid and insurance for doing that by the way) while at the same time, her being in control of an oil empire her father built. Think about that.
In reality, the costs for energy are rising and I think that is the goal. Even going green has only money as the goal.
It is always because of money and this topic is no exception.

He didn't seem to offer any better direction for the future.
Freedoms and responsibilities will obviously be critical - perhaps a user-pays approach to the cleanup costs of everyone's pollution will be a key driver. That way they can decide based on the costs of their actions.

'Putin went into Ukraine and said I'm gonna weaponise gas' ...think about that for a minute. When German industralists and Gasprom with the blessing of the German govt, financed via Austria, agreed on Nord gas pipeline projects, who objected? The US, but they are on the other side of the Atlantic. When Biden was questioned about Nord 2 he said that if Ukraine is attacked then we will find a way to stop Nord 2. Very interesting comment about freedom and democracy in a commercial setting. Food for thought. If you read Jacques Bord's analysis of eastern Ukraine you will find that Ukraine increased its bombing of the Donbass exponentially with more talk from Biden that 'Russia would invade'. Ramp up the pressure then shift blame quickly and invert the truth. This is a US modus operandi. After Nord 2 was destroyed Victoria Nuland said its now a huge hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea. Blinken said it was a great opportunity for the US as they and Norway started sending gas to Germany at inflated prices to get German industry off cheap gas and stop them developing good relations with Russia. Very clever. But this man from ARC who talks about 'education' does not appear to be educated or he would know. Read Seymour Hersh about Nord 2.

I’m not sure if you’re a bot or just dum. Lithium is reactive with water. Gasoline is volatile, and just as explosive. It’s not a real disadvantage for EVs when compared to internal combustion

I hope they watch too. But most of them are far too stupid to understand. Biden has no brain at all. The UK and Germany don't get it. Justin Trudeau can't remember what he had for lunch. China and India have it figured out though -especially China.

This talk was very interesting and informative. It also feels very incomplete. I want to hear what this nuanced plan towards mitigating climate change may look like. Show a few options. Give my mind a moment to image the possibilities. Telling me the way we think about the binary choice is wrong is a fine start, but leaving me with little to follow leaves me hollow. I want to have the nuanced conversation. I want to learn ideas and help form and solidify them in public discourse. I would love to hear his next 20 min talk about what he wants to do.

This is my first encounter with ARC content and it's a bewildering - for me - organization because I find it *impossible to catagorize.* For example, here Scott Tinker talks like a preacher but he's talking science! And dad jokes. He's making sense. I know this *shouldn't* put me on my guard and feeling suspicious. Oddly, however, it does. Which can be quite stimulating in a very peculiar way.

Don't apologize for being on your guard. We have been lied to so often by so many, for their own personal gain, that we have every right to be suspicious. The danger of lying to people so much and so often, is that if and when someone chooses to tell the truth, no one wants to believe it. It's the predictable response the classic example of "the boy who cried "WOLF" too often. No one believed him when he finally told the truth and suffered the consequences.

Sure wind and solar are clean while they are working, but what is the cost to the environment to manufacture windmills and solar panels? And, what about their lifespan and cost to dispose of them when they no longer work? There is a gap between the dream and the reality. These people are selling something . . . and it isn't freedom.

Every speach like this needs to mention what i think is the elephant in the room. As CO2 increases plant growth rates are increasing. Is this good? Extremely.

When writing a thesis in engineering in the early 1970s, I devised a poor depiction of a three way balance with the three E's; Energy, Environment, and Economy. My thesis advisor loved it. Always a balancing act.

Science is BASED on doubt, indeed. The first thing a true scientist says when met with the unknown is: "I do not know what that is." and the first question: "Why/how is that what it is?"

While political authority is centralised, power will remain crantralised and politics will attract megalomaniacs and narcissists. While money is allowed in politics and conflicts of interest, politics will attract the morally bankrupt and corrupt.
