Fantastic tutorial. So much shadow and detail work is good training for me. Of course with that very healthy painting workout, we get the added benefit of the ambiance. Music, background set, and lots of chuckles with the humor. You manage to keep it tight in training, and loose in atmosphere. I love it. You're the BEST!
Very kind - thanks Mona!
Love the complimentary color scheme, Paul. And those guitar skills. Whoa!😄
Thank you Kindly Tony!
Love this painting, definitely will research. There are some excellent subtle lessons on layering colours to achieve realistic artwork. The colour you can feel the warmth of the Mexican sun. Love the wee dog, he adds life to the composition. Thanks for the great tutorial Paul.
Sorry spell correct is annoying rewatch not research.
Thank you so much 😀 ... lol, didn't spot the spelling!
Recently discovered you,. Love your tutorials, you make it fun with your humor, refreshing. Dog doesn't look runover, looks like a cougar though. I can't wait to paint this, if I can get it sketched out. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I love, love your channel. You are a great teacher
I appreciate your kindness of sharing your talent with the world.
very kind - thanks so much!

YOU BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE. THANK YOU
Great to hear - thanks!
Paul, you are so gifted and an incredible teacher. Also you teach us how to paint so many different subjects and make it simple. By the way I love your British sense of humor and your crazy fun shirts. It's all about having fun and you certainly know how to do it. Gracias
Wow, thank you Adela!
I was hoping to find a Mexican home and you did have it yay! I am from Veracruz Mexico. I can’t wait to get home and try it out. I sit on my lunch time at work watching your videos.

I watch mesmerised, you really have a gift. I have a long long way to go to get anywhere near that good. I've just ordered your book, so that's a start and hoping we get some lighter days to be able to see what I'm doing. Thank you Paul.
Wow, thank you! - hope you enjoy the book!
Wow, you were brave with the under wash. Didn't think you could paint over it and it turned out so full of sunshine. Thanks so much for the entertainment, so enjoyable.
You are so welcome Pam - many thanks!

I have learned so much from your channel-shadows, color mixing, layering, brushes. I just finished the blue door and it looks pretty good! You make it look so easy, but it isn’t. I started in mid August and paint daily, thanks for sharing your talent
You are so welcome Kelly and delighted I can be of help - stay in touch!!!
Really enjoying your videos and style. After a while not painting you have given me the inspiration to pick up my brushes again. Thanks alot Paul.
Wonderful!
Loved how that came alive with each layer! I would love to see the final painting with the edge tape removed!
That's vey kind Debrah - Yes, I usually show the finished piece at the end without tape but there was a good reason on this one - I forgot!
@@ArtbyPaulClark What a great reply. Like I said you are a brick. A good lesson and also some humor to add spice to it all. Thanks again.

Greetings from the llama land, Peru.
Great to hear Coco - you must be my first comment from Peru!

Hey Ziva - very kind of you to say!
I think your dog looks just fine -- adds to the siesta mood of the painting. Beautiful painting.
Thank you very much!
I've really enjoyed doing this first exercise 3 years after the start of this wonderful website. It was great to see that the humour was there from the start.
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
WOW - love the shirt - and that fancy guitar work in amazing! Thanks for yet another outstanding tutorial! you provide great ideas and tips and i'm eager to try them. i keep up with several watercolour artists on UA-cam - you're my favorite!!! i hope you will consider setting up online classes, on Zoom (or something like that) that we could purchase - many are live. Some teachers are doing that now, and it works pretty well. either way, i check in weekly for a great tutorial and mood-improving laugh!!! Many thanks.
Thanks Robin, that means a lot - Yup something I'll definitely look into at sometime - glad you like the shirt and guitar playing!!!!
Ditto on the zoom classes. I would like that since I am here in the USA.
You’re guitar playing is impeccable

Love that you don't make me feel inadequate because I'm not good at drawing. May not be as good as yours but I'm happy if people recognise what I'm trying to represent. 😂😂👩🎨

Dear Paul, you are a brick really. I have learnt a lot from this. I think I will have a go doing something with a similar approach. Thanks a lot
Go for it Joseph!
Wonderful effects before it is finished
Day two painting this one, usually is watching, pausing, rewinding your tutorial again and again, observing your techniques, freezing the screen, studying the painting, and lots and lots of corrections. Hopefully I will be happy with it enough to venture to post to your Facebook group. It is such a fantastic group. They made me feel very welcomed.
You can do it! and I agree they are a really good bunch!
@@ArtbyPaulClark They really are. I posted a long message to thank you and Margot along with 3 of my paintings from your tutorials, and was warmly welcomed and approved.

Thank you soooo much for all your wonderful tutorials! My mother is Mexican, and I loved painting this for her as a gift. I live in the USA, and am not nearby to take your classes. :( Would you consider putting paid, online classes on your website? These free tutorials on UA-cam are amazing, and I would love to have more content, as well as pay you for your valuable tutorials!
Hi there - so glad you are enjoying them - Planning to do some live classes in the future! - keep in touch!
So I watch a few of your calm shirt videos .... then this! You're always good for a laugh and your ability to slap on paint and make it look fantastic blows my mind. This one is definitely over my pay grade but I sure enjoyed watching you paint it.
Lol! Barbara! - I appreciate that
Thank you so much, mister Clark! I painted this picture following your guidelines and it looks almost as beautiful as yours. You are a very talented artist and a very deft teacher, with all your nice jokes. Appritiated for all your lessons.
You are very welcome - delighted to help Olga!
You are so funny..i love the break time and the guitar playing..i laughed a lot.
Pleased to hear that!
Amazing! The sleeping dog is the perfect touch. 😊🐾 ~ Jen
Thanks JM - I'm not great with animals - but you got to give 'em a go! 🐾 🐾
Superb painting, Paul. The backing guitar music was really good an complimented your undoubted skill with a brush...... and, I suspect you are a better guitar player than you are letting on, too!
Lol! - sadly not - only know 4 chords ... and 2 of them are wrong!
Very nice!! Beautiful lights!!
Thanks for visiting
Hi again Paul. I painted your picture yesterday. I had fun and though it doesn't look exactly like yours, I'm a beginner, I'am very pleased with it. Sent pic to my family and they liked it. At least that's what they told me! I told them it was my Mexican villa and some asked when can they come down. I have your book on Watercolour painting and it's very helpful. Thanks Paul!
Hey, that great many thanks. So pleased you tried it out - I think it's important that it doesn't look exactly like mine as you will always put your own bit of personality into it... also thanks for buying my book, I hope you enjoy it ... you can also book me in for a two week stay in your Mexican villa next year!!!!
@@ArtbyPaulClark 🤣
Gracias por tus videos, aparte de aprender mucho me divierto un montón con tus presentaciones tan originales y divertidas. Un saludo "maestro".!!

My pleasure Ng! - BIG thanks
I looked at the sketch in the beginning and thought.. my goodness where would you start...? Then you start slapping paint like a madman and Bob's your uncle you make a masterpiece. How do you do it?
I also think you should share that Tequila with all of us. 🎨
Thanks again Gina - to be honest I'm not a huge fan of tequila - nearly burnt the back of my throat!!!! - the suffering we endure for our art! 🎨
@@ArtbyPaulClark Same thing happens to me when I lose my temper and scream and holler.
I love you, Paul!
Hi Paul. Happy 2024. I am binge watching your older Tutorials that I havnt yet seen. This Mexican hacienda is going to be my next effort. Trouble is Ì can SING better than I can paint with watercolours...but I try. TEQUILA!! CHEERS,🍸🍸🍹🍹

Love this. You can feel the warmth of the sun. Beautiful.
Thank you Rebecca - I wish I was there in the sun when I painted it!!!
:) I enjoy your humor as much as I enjoy watching you paint. I'd much rather just listen to you talk w/out background music tho. Bravo on this one!
Good to know thanks Joyce!!
Great tips and techniques. Thanks. Andy
Glad it was helpful!

Beautifully done. Thank you for the sketch!!! Helps to see it clearly. Your a magnificent painter! Love how you teach.
Thank you so much - that's very generous 😀
Hi Paul,
The only thing missing from your get up was a sombrero 😂. Another brilliant lesson 🙏 Thanks a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it
OMG! What magic you possess!. I could watch you forever and a day and do! Thank you so much! The only thing missing is the sombrero. [Love that shirt! } You could also make a living with your beautiful voice. A painting troubadour so to speak! x
Hi Christa - many thanks - not so sure about the voice though!!!
Thanks so much for the free sketch. That's so nice of you, Paul. I'm going to give this a try this week. I absolutely love it!!! Maybe I'll add a bench with a Mexican blanket draped on one side. I'm dreaming of course. I'm not that great at watercolor yet, but I'm from NM so I just have to, as you say, give it a go. I bought a couple of colors I needed; the cerulean blue and cad orange. So looking forward to doing this one!!! Thanks for the humor, the tutorial and watching the artist at work. :)
Thanks so much Laina and delighted you're going to 'give it ago!' - I reckon you could do the blanket too! Just remember you are doing 'your version' so don't worry too much about matching mine. Have fun and let me know how you get on.
Lovely painting made look so easy. Enjoyed the guitar playing too as it gets you thinking of holidays.
Thanks so much Pat 😊

Oh my...... I love this! Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you so much Lona!
Loved it, you inspired me to try it!
Yay! Thank you!
Love the music too.
Great to hear!!!
Thanks for the tutorial Paul. I completed the project to my (almost) satisfaction but felt I had to make adjustments. In the initial wash, I was unable to achieve the yellowish hue that you achieved with cadmium orange, no matter how diluted I made the paint. So I used the cadmium yellow instead, as well as cadmium orange, and it looked just like what you painted. Next, as others pointed out, your shadows are impossible on this planet. So I placed my light source in the upper left and painted my shadows accordingly. Lastly, the decomposing tree in the lower right contrasted with the vigorous healthy green plants of the hacienda so I resurrected the tree which has green leaves now. However, the placement of the tree still seems contrived. Nonetheless I learned a lot on this one. Thanks again!
Great to hear and thanks for sharing!
Wondering painting.... Thank you so much sir....I am going to try this painting now...sir
Great 👍
I love this painting. Second time watching it! You had me fooled on you playing flamingo music on the guitar! Great video, thank You for sharing it!

Very beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Well now that we had such an awesome tutorial on perspective in the newest Line & Wash I will attempt to sketch this...... you have inspired me to perservere! You keep it up with your good instruction and in a decade I'll be close to mediocre.😂 Thanks for inspiring all of us that watch these videos. Your teaching has not only improved my skill you've made it fun along the way.... Now for some odd reason I'm craving Street Taco's and a Modelo Negra beer... Weird. Thank You!
Thanks as always - It made me want to go and join Los Lobos!! - then I realised I can't play the guitar!!! 😂
Great to see how you work with shadows! Many thanks for this video!
Thank you! Cheers!
