I just finished a book with kettle stitch binding (cause it's the only one I've learnt, lol), but your videos inspire me to try and make more and more notebooks :) It's so nice to watch it and listen to your calming voice. Good job ;)
Thank you for this 🙌🏻 Finally a video that I can follow. So many people are terrible at explaining what they're doing and don't go slow enough for you to see exactly what they're doing.
Your videos show each step very clearly and I enjoy listening to you describe it as you do it. I made my first coptic bound book last week, and have since made 2 coptic bound books with the two color threads, which I love. Thank you so much.
Absolutely love all your binding videos! I'm starting a lot of book binding projects this year, including making and binding my own art book, and I couldn't do it without your videos and tutorials. Thank you for being amazing and helping all of us creatives! :)
Thank u so much!!!! I have binded one of my torn book following your tutorial. And I am so happy to do it successfully!!!! I am very excited to bind more books following this video!!! May God bless u with good health and mind.
I've been following your bookbinding tutorials since high school and i'm currently a college student, i still go to sea lemon whenever i forgot how to do Coptic stitch 😄 i want to try this one tho
Dear Sea Lemon, thank you very much for your efforts ! All your tutorials are a paragon of clarity and very easy to understand. i like your style very much and your demonstration are esxcellent. Cheers.
I made my first Coptic stitched book yesterday and after watching this I think can see where I went wrong,my stitches are too tight - thank you for posting this.
I like this stitch! Thanks for demonstrating how to do it. I love that paper you used to cover the books! So pretty!! I just ordered some, and since I so very much look forward to your videos, I joined Patreon to support your work! 😄
Your videos are amazing and your voice is so soothing🌸 Your instructions are clear and really helpful, thank you sooo much for these videos❤ I just made my first handmade watercolor sketchbook by watching your vid on kettle stitching and I love it so much
Your books are so beautiful! Please make a tutorial about creating seamless patterns from drawings, I want to try making custom wrapping paper 🥰 Thank you!!
Oh I love this !! I love doing regular Coptic but haven't tried this !! It's the weekend... guess what I'll be doing?! Lol !! Thank you for a great tutorial!
Hi Jennifer, and thank you. I had occasion to look up one of your earliest Coptic stitch videos the other day - my goodness, the video quality and editing have come a long way! Mind you, I do miss the jaunty reggae-ish background music. Anyway, I've been enjoying your channel for years now, and don't say thank you nearly often enough - so there you go. :-)
Could you show how to girdle bind a book? Maybe a form of it… I would love a cover that keeps the notebook safe and that can also be used for carrying the notebook. Thank you for your wonderful videos! All I've learned about book binding, I've learned from you.
yes! I was planning to make a DIY inktober book video next month to prepare for October! I've never participated and this year I want to (in my own sketchbook of course) 👍
@@SeaLemonDIY That's so exciting!!! I'm glad we're on the same page with the Inktober book! I can't wait to see your video. I'm thinking about making signatures of different color and texture paper. Black paper so I can use white and metallic inks, kraft paper color for tone practice, watercolor paper for ink washes, etc. I'm also making the book about the size of your smallest book here, so I won't have an excuse to avoid doing it. I'm really looking forward to October! I'll set it up for 32 sheets so I can have a cover page. :D Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I'm so inspired to make my book AND, thanks to your previous videos on making your own design paper, I'm going to make my cover paper ahead of time using black cardstock and white ink. See you in the next video!
I am new person I have subscribed your channel and tapped the bell icon can you make other new types of stitching plzz because I trust you so much than other youtubers this is canna from India
What is the biggest advantage of this binding method or a reason for one to use this instead of regular coptic stitch? Apart from the choice of using different coloured threads.
Hi, I would love a video where you show all binding options, where the books lay flat. Obviously, Coptic stitch works, but love to see several options, as I want my books to lay flat but might not want Coptic stitch... thanks.
You could cover in tape? Either clear or washi to your choice. Also I found some metal covers from my local craft shop which slide on and then you pinch them tight. Hope this helps :)
Hello! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am planning on to make my own notebook diary for the whole year so I have enough pages.. I need a 110 sheet notebook(220 pages) , about the size of cahier... Which method would you recommend please to make that? And how many papers in one signature..? Thank you very much!!
Can you use this stick with a more traditional cover made of fabric or leather? Specifically, a cover that goes over the spine. Does it still open flat?
Hi would it be possible to do a cross stitch binding or a flower Japanese binding, i've watched others do this but they're not as good as you at explaining the steps x
I have a 6 holes coptic waiting for me... Should have been 4 but got distracted, really undecided if I had to do a textblock or not. 6 needles are gonna end me 😬 What do you think about applying eyelets on the holes of the cover? I have very bulky holes, i used the guide and needle instead of holepunching it... Eyelets would make it prettier and ruin the pages less
Hello sea lemon😊 While binding my thread finished so knotted before starting a new signature . So is it possible to start again with a new thread ?? Thank you ☺️
hello sealemon, I was watching one of your old videos , you was making a bullet journal out of a messy made planner ... I have a question and I was afraid you won't see it if I poste it there ... anyway, just wanna know how long I should let the stitching signatures to dry .. and how long to let the whole journal on the pressing .. ❤ and thank you so much , your videos are amazing ❤
I want to try the kettle stitch binding but I don't have any of the things 😢 I only have paper and white glue do you think you can make a how to make a notebook with just glue and paper please
Excellent video - but that's not a square or reef knot! A square knot has both the threads on one side coming over the turn, and the treads on the other side going under the turn. What you have done is a granny knot :)
Going from left to tight as we look at the folded edge of the signatures, let's call the needles/strands #1, #2, #3, #4. What would happen if at the end signature you took #2 and #3 (the two center needles) and looped them around end of the loops the opposite half. Meaning #2 would wrap around the hole and loops at #3. Then we would wrap #3 around the hole and loops at #2. That way #1 and #4 would still stay on their half of the book making three strands between #1 and #2 and three strands between #4 and #3. Leaving the two just made strands between #2 and #3. That way half of the ending double strands would be moved to the up-to-now none threaded center.
I was all set to do my current book with this method and the realized I needed two needles for each pair of holes. I didn’t have enough curved needles. My question is: would it be possible to finish one set of holes at a time? Does that make sense?
Hello, I was searching for a proper videos on Japanese styled stab book binding patterns, there was no variety in them can you please please show some of them in detailed it would be very helpful of YOU.

Thank you for using 2 different thread colors - it makes it much easier to understand how the binding is done!
Finally
I was trying to learn it
But was very difficult from anyone except you

Gonna try this! Been learning a lot from your tutorials this quarantine and they help me learn something I always wanted to make for myself.

The way you matched your thread colors to the wrapping paper 🥰
Thanks for posting this tutorial. It’s easy to follow and makes this binding method feel a lot less intimidating.
Your vids are so good! Not only do you verbally communicate very well but the visuals are so clear. Thanks so very much!🐝🇨🇦✌️❤️🙏👍👏🎶💪😎

Fantastic video, thank you? Is it linen thread you use?
Can you use Coptic stitch binding for single sheets? I don't want to fold my pages in half but I still like this stitch

Could you do a video on making a soft cover coptic stitch journal?

Perfect camera work. Clear, close-up, a pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Super cute! Does the additional thread create extra bulk inside the signatures? You are so great!
I have made Coptic green cover bookbinding
Hi! This tutorial was amazing, thanks! I have a question: how can I protect the corners on the cover when it's covered with paper?
You could cover in tape? Either clear or washi to your choice. Also I found some metal covers from my local craft shop which slide on and then you pinch them tight. Hope this helps :)
Tbh I usually just cover the entire thing with a plastic wrap that you usually use for books or notebooks

2 pairs out of 3 done! Attaching the bottom cover is a pain though.
Can pages be added later?

It might be a little awkward, but I’m sure it’s possible.
You can also use straight needles. I tried that and they worked nicely but they are not as easy as the curved ones of course 😅
