hmmm.. I'm thinking I might use this to make a watercolor notebook with a perforated edge a little ways in so that I could tear off pages as I paint. That way the cover folding back would still be very handy. of course it means eventually my book would be empty, but then I could just cut out the stitches holding in the leftover bits of paper and sew new pages into it... think I might give it a try
No one could make it more clear. Your excellence is admired and appreciated. Listening to a book goes great with this type of project. I know you don't get as many views on bookbinding and I support your smooth self-narrated integration of the sponsorship. Hope others do as well.
I have spent so much money getting all the supplies to book bind I'm now in heaven. This is so much fun as I'm an old fart and I am learning, see u can teach an old dog to bind lol. Keep up the great work.
Another binding style I can add to my repertoire, I'm so excited to sit down and have a try of this. Truth be told you're probably going to get another 50 views on this video from me just because I'll have it on replay in the studio while I work.
Most people make all kinds of bindings, never showing how the book performs when opened. I've always doubted those. Finally someone that covers the whole truth to it! Thank you! Will definitely be making this one :)
Am I the only one who watches these like 1M times bc it’s satisfying? And then when I’m bored I’m just like “LETS DO IT!!” Then I mess up and do it again, making like 4 books I never use. 😆luv u Sea Lemon!
I've never seen this binding before, and at the start of video I thought 'this is going to be hard'... but you made it so clear and simple. Thanks so much. Lovely binding.
Fascinating! I'm always amazed by the creativity of the human brain. Seriously, who comes up with stuff like this? Thank you for such a clear demonstration.
Thank you. You explain the technique so clearly, at a pace that makes it easy to take in and with clear filming. The bonus is that you have provided links for all the supplies (saves time for the viewer), other tutorials and related videos for more info and the little blurb about the history of this technique adds interest. I have wanted to try my hand at book binding for many years, but searching for the correct supplies and tools seems daunting when I already have three main disciplines of art I work in (ceramics, jewelry and drawing). I have wanted to use bookbinding to create books of my original small art drawings, and like this technique but will look at your other videos as well. Again thanks.
Okay I have made a notebook with this bindingtechnique before thanks to a very nicely written guide, but I did not know that you could fold over the cover like that! What?! Mind blown! Definitely going to try it again now!
I've been waiting for this! I like to make custom notebooks as gifts for family and friends and I kind of got sick of making coptic stitch ones all the time. I think I'll try it out this weekend!! Thank you so much for making this tutorial, it's so clear and well-made that I doubt I'll have any real issue making this.
Kristi Warren is a lovely woman. She is the reference Jennifer used and listed in the description. If anyone should need help with their project, know that Kristi will answer your questions. LOVE Jennifer even more for referencing another fellow bookbinder. 😘
This is my first time bookbinding. I think I made it simpler when I made it but your channels really really helpful. I .just searched bookbinding and I found out about you!
Wow! This notebook is amazing! Congratulations for learning a new binding technique Jen! 👏👏👏👏 Just a few comments from someone that has experience with this binding style: if you make an even number of holes in your covers (6, 8, 10...), the ends of the threads can be both at the back cover. I think it's a more polished way to finish the knots. Also, when attaching the signatures to the cover binding, a curve needle like the one on the video saves your life. You'll save hours if you use it instead of a straight needle!
why did i take so long to watch this video when it's literally one of the coolest binding methods?? and i think with the way it's done (separate cover, kinda) it can be refillable as needed 👀
I messed up first time by forgetting the whole point of signatures and went through each and every one every time. Only when I’d finished did I realise. It was difficult getting the needle through all of them by the time I’d finished! The next one will be better but I have a lot of pages to fill with sketches before that happens. I did tape a length of narrow ribbon to the middle piece before I started so I have a bookmark. The other thing I learned was that you should clear a space several yards around you because you can guarantee the thread will hook around anything within range. Thanks for the video.
I was going to make Coptic-stitch journals for my family for Christmas but this style is going to be MUCH more of a hit with them :) Thanks for the super clear tutorial!
Thanks for another great tutorial. Every artist should at least know how to make their own sketchbooks. I Subscribered years ago, and it is great to see you over 1 million subscribers. Keep up the great work.
i am using this binding technique and your tutorial for a book i am making as part of my practical final exam in university, so thanks a lot for this awesome guide! i bound two secret belgian books with your help already and love the binding style and your video very much :)
Wow! I made a book! Thanks so much for such and easy, concise, and just all around well put together tutorial. Everything was shown so well and was a breeze to follow!
I just found this video and I love it !!! I love book binding and this is one I haven't seen done before. I've got to give this a go!! Thank you for your excellent instructions!
This is beautiful! Thank you for showing us this clever binding technique. I’m only starting out with thread binding and this looks like something I’d like to try. Your tutorial is clear and definitely helps me feel less intimidated. ❤️❣️
Thank you, even though I'm 3 years late here. :) Very good video to learn this from! I've subscribed and plan on watching more book binding methods from you. Thanks again!
I was so excited when I found out you could fold the cover to the back until I realized you can't fold the pages the same way... would love to make my own sketchbook but I just really like to fold my pages+cover back. If there is one, I would love to know! I would still like to try this out though! great gift for someone you love
I was SO excited to see this! 😃 I originally watched it on a TV device that makes it impossible to comment. I'm tidying up my studio this morning and it reminded me I hadn't come back to thank you for the wonderful tutorial. You explained it so much better than I've seen before. Thanks so much! Now I'm in a race to fill up my current coptic-bound sketchbook. 😉
I'd always been afraid to try bookbinding, but this is WAY easier than I was afraid it would be. I've made my first little booklet, and I have lots of notes and ideas for the future! (I definitely need to buy a curved needle. I found an old upholstery needle in my sewing supplies, but it's a straight one. Those last couple signatures are tricky with a straight needle!)
thank you for this amazing video! I've just made a sketchbook with this type of binding following your instrucrtions and it's so cooool! and very comfortable to use) I've only managed to do the coptic stich before and actually never heard of the secret belgian one - but I'm so glad I tried it) thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I really like that you do the cover seperately first. Trying to juggle the covers and the signatures at the same time is my least favorite thing about the coptic stitch!
I love seeing books from movies. I have never seen anyone remake Benny (Ella's friend's boyfriend, that was accidentally turned into a magical reference book). I thought it was actually a very beautifully designed book. It would be great to see you make one.
I would love to have a binding video for already preprinted single pages that I want to bind together. I have looked at some videos but haven't found something easy enough to follow.
More bookbinding please. Use ruled paper for next project. I already used your journal ruled paper, colourfull paper, and i used harry potter themed book cover from muggle magic diy. I think you two should do collaboration next time.
This is an interesting technique and since my father was born in Belgium, I guess I really should try it. I do like the flexibility it provides. Thanks for sharing.
What helped me with the binding of the cover was to lay it flat and have like half of the cover hanging over the edge and put a weight on it. Then just poke your needle and thread in and out
Actually, you might be able to make the spine piece somewhat flexible with specific cuts (like what is used to make wood flexible), but I don't know if that would impact the sturdiness. Would be a fun experiment.
hmmm.. I'm thinking I might use this to make a watercolor notebook with a perforated edge a little ways in so that I could tear off pages as I paint. Thats a really good idea!
That's amazing, I think I'm going to do it the same way, thank you

I guess this really is secret Belgian bookbinding since I'm Belgian and I have never heard of it :P .

Ik dacht hetzelfde te zeggen.

My top favorites videos are your bookbinding tutorials, Amazing!

Ha--same! I think I'm responsible for at least 500 views on the coptic binding videos as I was learning that one.
Most people make all kinds of bindings, never showing how the book performs when opened. I've always doubted those. Finally someone that covers the whole truth to it! Thank you! Will definitely be making this one :)

thanks. I like how you use different colour threads for each signature, thus making it easier for us to follow.
I've never seen this binding before, and at the start of video I thought 'this is going to be hard'... but you made it so clear and simple. Thanks so much. Lovely binding.
Excellent tutorial and thanks for adding metric measurements.
I really like your tutorials. The explanations are simple and your voice has a relaxing effect.
You make it easier to understand than most other videos I've watched... Tysm
Im crying this is what I wanted all my life is for her to come back to bookbinding
This video is explaining so well the whole prosesur...congratulations and many many many many thanks for sharing dear! You re wonderful person ❤️ 💕
Fascinating!

Thank You! I can’t wait to get started. Am thinking of combining this with another method to consolidate my bullet journals at the end of the year.
Okay I have made a notebook with this bindingtechnique before thanks to a very nicely written guide, but I did not know that you could fold over the cover like that! What?! Mind blown! Definitely going to try it again now!

I did bookbinding in university and it is a great art form. I will get back into bookbinding later. I love all the beautiful handmade papers.

This book binding video is really satisfying to watch
I love love love the way you film this tutorials! The close shots really help to understand what you´re doing. Wonderful videos!

Secret Belgian is my favorite style, and I've been getting back into bookbinding so this was super helpful in getting back to basics!
This is a great tutorial. Clear explanation and very easy to follow. i will definitely make on my next book binding project.. thank you so much..💖💖
this was such a fun binding to do. thanks for another great tutorial
This is the best book binding method I've ever seen. Clear explanations !!! Thank you very much!! ❤
Wow! I've never heard of this kind of binding. Definitely my next project. Thanks! Definitely subbing.
this is so calming to watch on a *very* cold day in California
The way this looks when the first page is displayed reminds me a lot of the kids' toy Jacob's Ladder. Great video!
I thought of that too!
this is still one of my absolute favorite bindings! i watched the video so many times and am still coming back to it again and again.
why did i take so long to watch this video when it's literally one of the coolest binding methods?? and i think with the way it's done (separate cover, kinda) it can be refillable as needed 👀
This binding is cute as heck, wow.
Wow!! I really like that there's no glue. I need to make a watercolor sketchbook.
That’s a great final product! Those colors are a very nice touch!!
I messed up first time by forgetting the whole point of signatures and went through each and every one every time. Only when I’d finished did I realise. Watching your videos always makes me feel calm, you have such a nice relaxing voice 😊❤️
I got soo inspired by that binding but with the wooden book cover you've made in the past 😍
I was so excited when I found out you could fold the cover to the back until I realized you can't fold the pages the same way... would love to make my own sketchbook but I just really like to fold my pages+cover back. That's a magic book! Holy cow!
I just ran into your channel, I've been binging! I love this as a top bind.
Great video.. thank you for adding the metric dimensions, in the Middle East we only use the metric system.
Thanks for this. It looks amazing and, as always, your explanation was very clear and easy to follow! Will definitely try!
LOVE it! Thanks for such an easy to understand and well-filmed project!

When I did this structure, I laser cut the covers, and added some notches along the edges of the spine to keep it secured
Wow what a system! You always seem to make it all look so easy! This I want too try1
Love new bookbinding videos! Binding is what made me find you and sub in the olden days :-)
Thank you!!! I’ve been wanting to learn this method and your video makes it look very easy. I can’t wait to try it!!

I would love to have a binding video for already preprinted single pages that I want to bind together. I have looked at some videos but haven't found something easy enough to follow.

Your tutorials are always top notch! Thanks!!
Beautifully clear as ever. Thank you.
How cool! I'm definitely going to try this one! Thanks Jennifer!
This looks simple and fancy at the same time. Perfect por my final presentation!!
Love it love it love it. So colourful. Why don't use ruled paper like your previous tutorial.
More bookbinding please. Use ruled paper for next project.
I already used your journal ruled paper, colourfull paper, and i used harry potter themed book cover from muggle magic diy.
I think you two should do collaboration next time.

Favorite book-binding tutorial to date. 👍
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
Your videos are great! Would binding be possible with clear thread instead of cotton thread? Thanks for sharing!
Omg! 😲 I love this, I'm going to use this method for my next project!
I love your bookbinding tutorials. This sticht is amazing! It’s so cute!! I’m in love 😍😘
What helped me with the binding of the cover was to lay it flat and have like half of the cover hanging over the edge and put a weight on it. Then just poke your needle and thread in and out
Came back to this almost a year later to make another book and I've gotta thank my past self for this tip lol
Thanks past me!
Actually, you might be able to make the spine piece somewhat flexible with specific cuts (like what is used to make wood flexible), but I don't know if that would impact the sturdiness. Would be a fun experiment.
Thank you so much ma'am
