The Most Isolated Place on Earth… Bouvet Island
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Bouvet Island! Widely considered the most remote island due to how far it is to its nearest population centers of Cape Town and Tristan Da Cunha. In this video, I explain the history of the island, talk about the Norwegian/Norvegia expeditions there, a mysterious lifeboat that was found in 1966, and mysterious flashes of light that were seen in the South Ocean there.

I have been fascinated by Bouvet Island for such a long time, ever since RealLifeLore talked about it in their videos. Check out their channel too if you like my stuff!
I do not give you permission to repost this video on TikTok without giving me credit and asking first!
I've been exploring google earth for years now and it's crazy how the places I've stumbled upon and researched are the exact same as the locations you make your videos on. Neat knowing there's someone out there with the same interest. Love the vids, please keep posting!
That’s so cool! It’s so fun to hear that others share the same interest
I'd highly recommend checking out the 1914 Shackletones voyage. Their ship got stuck in ice and they got stranded in Antarctica for months. It's unbelievable how they could survive in those conditions. The islands they visited were very similar to the Bouvet Island.
I'll look into that! I like learning about those shipwreck stories. I have a couple videos coming out soon that mention stories of arctic ships that were stuck in ice drifts
that story is even crazier than you’d think… you could probably make multiple videos on it, since multiple islands were involved: Elephant Island and South Georgia Island. whenever I read about this, I am always surprised that every single person on the expedition, even the stowaway, survived the 2-year ordeal
@@Geomarginpls do a vid on it your vids have been the best thing ever to binge watch, also consider longer vids as well would :)
So happy to have found this channel. I love looking on Google Earth and wondering about remote places and who if anyone has been there. Great video format- right to the point unlike most UA-cam videos these days. Keep it up!
Thank you!!!
Like many other people, i'm glad i found this channel. If yo were to do any kind of requests, would you eventually do a vid for the Lena river's delta? That place (Like all of Siberia) fascinates me, but i can't find any good photos or information, while it looks like that you can. Cheers!
That’s a really fascinating part of the world, so maybe I will make a video about there!
Love your vids. It's hard to find a channel that matches with a lot of my niche interests but I am blessed to have found your channel
Glad we share the same niche :)
If I visited this place I'd leave behind a monolith or something to keep people guessing...
Hahaha and then 200 years from now, history channel will make an alien documentary about that place
Really love how you explore the unexplored side of the world! Keep up with giving intresting facts!
Thanks! This was one of my favorite videos to make!
Your videos are actually really interesting. I love them!
Thank you!!!
Your videos are super interesting and entertaining!!! keep it up :)
Thank you :)
I discovered your channel a few days ago, when your videos only had a few hundred views. You have the excact same interests as me! Remember me when you get famous!
Thanks!!! Yeah the videos have been doing well! It’s wild!
Underrated
Thanks
this is such a cool island. i know there's not much going on but i still wish i could go out of curiosity
Same
yess thats an indeed fascinating one, always gives me chills
same
As a Norwegian, I didn't know much about this island at first. Really interesting video!
Nice to meet you! Yeah and besides this place being the most place on Earth, there's not a lot on info online about it
If you have seen Alien vs Predator they talkk about "bouvetøya island". Seems they did a bad research because that spells "bouvet island island"
you should do a video on the most remote and inaccessible places on google earth!
Yes! Watch ThePOVChannel as well! They have amazing videos on that exact topic
Let's not forget the ancient Yautja pyramid, chock full of xenomorph eggs, buried deep beneath the ice. 😜
(Bouvet Island was the setting of the first Aliens vs Predator film)
Omg how did I not realize that Bouvet Island was the setting of that film. That's so cool
Awesome video
Thanks!
@@Geomargin no problem
New upload yay!
Yay!
Super cool
Thanks!
Just talking about nuclear tests could get your video demonetized?
Idk honestly
That’d be crazy if true, kinda doubt it
@@wembyglaze101 the israelis tested their nukes around there in 1979, with help from south africa. its not much of a secret anymore.
You answer the questions that I get when randomly finding remote islands. TY!
You're welcome!
A fascinating island I didn’t know about. Are their some restrictions these days about mentioning unclear tests (first two letters reversed intentionally)? I hear about an author who chose a vanity press to publish his book, and he was asked to remove all instances of unclear (first two letters reversed intentionally) from the text. What is going on?
Thanks! And I’m not sure, I think I was being overly cautious because I just got monetized. But I’ve been watching other videos and others mention it with no problem so I probably will loosen up a bit
There’s not, he’s literally just being a pssuy. lol
@ I’m glad there isn’t. Otherwise this vocabulary policing would be getting way too out of control!
This world is so fascinating. Great video!
Thanks!!!
I thought you were going to say to wait until a landslide ends your worries at the end lol.
Hahahah
aaaa! i just noticed you added the watermark cause of tiktok, lol. but i have a tip: add a 80-90% transparent watermark of your name that wont effect viewing, but will be visible. you dont have to do this though, the black text is fine
Thanks for the suggestion, yeah I'll probably do that and a short branded intro around 30 seconds in from now on.
@ sounds great!
@@Geomargin also with the watermark you had in this video someone reposting to tiktok wont have a problem stealing it because they'll only see the middle of the video on mobile where the watermark isnt
The person is just posting the whole video not cropped at all
@@RobinBhanks they didnt crop it, they added black bars above the video and below it so they could convert the 16:9 video into 9:16 (literally even easier to watermark so thats lucky)
Look at deception island please it’s so cool and more people need to know about it
Looking into it now. Did anything wild happen there?
@ nothing super notable other than an eruption that destroyed the research station there and the whaling/seal hunting that happened there in the past, but the geography is super cool
Is there such a thing as a non year-long glacier?
I guess an ice cap could be non-year long, but not a glacier. Whoops. I don't write a script for these videos so sometimes I say stuff that doesn't make sense
For years I've had a weird fascination with this island. I really want to go there. But that would be incredibly expensive, take a very long time, be pretty bad ecologically, and frankly... there isn't much to do there.
Same, it all started years ago for me I think when I watched a RealLifeLore video way back in the day. I legit thought, 'oh yeah, I can make an effort to go there'. But it is way, way more difficult to get there than I could've thought. And just like you said, there's really nothing to do there unless youre a proper scientist, which I am not
What island is in your UA-cam channel art?
Onekotan in the Kuril Islands
WOOOOOOOO
LETS GOO
Wait....Saying "Nuclear Weapons" gets you demonitized? What?
I doubt it now hahah. I was too cautious
I find it hard to believe that the words "nuclear test" would result in UA-cam punishment.
Yeah idk
Saying "nukes" get you demonitized now?
idk, I just got monetized a week ago and don't want to risk it right now
@@Geomargin You're allowing yourself to be bullied into self censorship.
Yeah I’m being overly cautious. I realized I can probably say that and be fine
Ah yes the infamous test. So much for. The non proliferation treaty! Our greatest ally indeed
Mentioning nuclear tests can get you demonetized? What?
No it cant. I was too cautious.
Reminds me of the 3 day long discord debate session we had about the viability of colonising that island. Too bad the french are selling it to china
That sounds like a fun debate!
@@Geomargin it was. I totally think we can.
New Geomargin video 🎊🥳
I googled it and wikipedia says that the Vela Incident didn’t happen on the Bouvet Island but near the South African territory of Prince Edward Islands in the Indian Ocean. So there you have it, do your own research and check your sources.
It happened in the ocean BETWEEN bouvet and prince edward islands.
didn't he say the satellite detected the flashes around the area and not on bouvet
Wikipedia says near Prince Edward Island and Crozet, 1'000km to the east of Prince Edward Island. Bouvet Island lies 2'500km to the west of Prince Edward Island.
Since the Vela satellite only saw flashes and there seems to he no other data to locate the incident more precisely, except for the assumption that it was SA performing nuclear tests I come to the conclusion that not enough data is easily available.
Yeah I guess I should've clarified that part a bit more. I pointed my cursor around the island, but it did happen pretty far away.
Don’t listen to the crap! If they can make the videos and do the research better; then let them have it! I love your content! 🎉
3:30 Bro really? I looked it up, the incident you’re scared about talking about is literally just a nuclear bomb test? Jesus you made it sound like they were doing some diabolical things to children and testing on them or something, God grow a pair dude you’re not gonna get de monetized for talking about a nuclear explosion. Lame ass
Never said I wasn’t lame… I make nerdy geography videos on the internet 😂 but yeah I get your point, I was definitely too cautious. This video came out when I first got monetized and I wasn’t sure. But now I know I can talk about it. Hopefully will improve as a creator, that’s my goal
