Back in my Childhood I learned the classical position. But I am also using the position on the right leg. For electrical I use always a strap no matter if seated or not. So I have the same position for standing or sitting. The height is somewehre in the middle between cool an Jazz. Nice explanation as always, Jen 👍 Enjoy your Tor 🎸🎸
I learned very early when i started playying in 1988 to play in what you may call cover your stomach. I never thought the whole James Hetfield Cover your C**K position was cool. what really got me to play in the cover your stomach position is i had one of those elastic straps that would on a heavy guitar make it drop farther than what you had the guitar strap set for due to the the stretchiness of the guitar strap. then i got better guitar straps for me with tiny shoulders, i use a 3 inch or wider padded guitar straps first i bought them from Carvin (Now Keisel) and then planet waves straps. but the cover your stomach is a position you do not look like urkle from family matters. with his high pants, when you play it in what you call the cover your B**B's or the jazz position. as for sitting i used both of those positions so the strain on my back, shoulders, wrists changes. plus i can not sit in one position for very long. But you should do a segment on the perfect guitar strap such as 2 inch or 3 or more inch wide, padded or not padded guitar straps, leather vs, the other materials, issues with the bullet guitar straps such as traveling with those straps. But yeah sitting i used both positions and switch like every 15 to 30 minutes, especially if you do a five or more hour practice. and for standing i use the cover your stomach, I find the cover your c**k position aka the James Hetfield position puts more strain on my wrists plus it is little more difficult to shred. It may look cool but that is it. as for the Jazz or cover your B**B's position as you call it i find it also puts strain on the wrist being that high up so the middle the cover your stomach position i find is best suited for me.
I have to play in the classical position when sitting due to a shoulder injury. I can't play with the guitar on my right leg because of the position it puts my right shoulder into.
I prefer classical position for any style, because I can get more control over the guitar as it sits on my left leg. I'm a righty. While standing, I prefer about waist height, so it's not to low, not too high. But the wrist position makes riffing note per note a tad bit more difficult.
I am so glad that you didn’t mention any “Pro” position. I’m still surfing around among the clouds thinking of my new found my pro status from last week. Hmm, if I cover my c**k with the guitar……..then I can’t see the guitar. 😢
I remember watching a Billy Sheehan video, and he spoke about strap height. He said something that made sense. You should have it at the height you practice at, meaning that if you’re practicing while seated, you should adjust the height to where it is when you’re seated. That way you’re not in the position of wondering why can’t I play this, I’ve been practicing this forever and I can do it when I’m practicing. It may not be the way the “Cool kids” are doing it, but it made sense to me, so that’s what I did after seeing that. Too lazy to practice standing up trying to look “cool”.🤣🤣🤣
Totally agreed about driving to another town or going to a nearby country to watch your favorite artist. People have gotten so lazy lately.
It took me awhile to find that compromise between comfy and cool position on stage..
I can’t wait to see you in a few weeks in Ontario!!
Awesome! Looking forward to see you
Great that you talking about travelling. People today just want everuthing to happen at there hometown. And great content about the positions.

awesome great video, also if you have too much of a bend in your wrist you could get carpal tunnel, kinda painful. keep them ligaments flowing free.
Coooool
