I didn't mind not being the main focus in the story. My problem was Wuk being too much of a focus and us not being much of a mentor to her and just her bodyguard really.
Yeah like the way to make the WOL feel like the "MC" and by that I mainly just mean, feel as if he's an actual character and not just a camera for us, is by making him feel like a true mentor and have us teach her the way of things, and possibly even spar with her to make her stronger. They've done something like this before back in HW with the dragoon job quests, but with the way the MSQ played out, the WOL just felt separate from everything going on
There's actually a quest where you teach an NPC how to be an adventurer. You collect items off the ground, they watch you, then do it themselves. You do an escort mission with them and they watch you and learn. If we had this quest with Wuk Lamat, I'd totally buy the mentor role more. Let us have a training montage with them, or have them do a sparring match with us.
I agree, I'm fine with not being the main focus. Just wish Wuk was written better. The story kind of tells us to be her mentor, but it felt more akin to being a babysitter.
I argue wuk wasnt enough of a focus we ditched half the story (rite of succession) to rush to explore alexandria quickly rushed through the levin shard. Where wuk purpose was i am here to act as the representive of tuliyoal my conflict with these people is generic. We should have seen wuk be tested (civil war, rebel yok huy, criminal emterpirses in cowboy town) and put in positions where she had to prioritise what she deemed best for tuliyoal. Making sacrifices and decisions that would eventually mirror spehenes stuggle who again could have had more work. As far as story goes its stil stronger then stormblood, (pre-post msq) and obviously arr but thats a given.
I feel like wuk llamat's quest in becoming dawn servant + another subplot should have become the entire msq to develop all the characters more then make alexandria 7.x content. Valigarmanda was fluffed up to be extremely threatening and we just nipped him in less than a day. We should have had some time to speak with the other promises too.
Like or hate the English VA for Wuk Lamat, her character's awful. She has over 7,000 words in the MSQ, which over quadruples even the 2nd character with the most spoken words. And after seeing that 'Speak with Wuk Lamat' shows up in the MSQ, I shit you not, 140 times? I understand why I got burnt out of the story and stopped caring by the 5th zone.
My main problem with Wuk story is that yes talking and knowing ppl does help to rule. But its not enough to extinct ancient grudges. It felt Disney-ish...
The problem will always be that the team just couldnt come up with a way to put the "end of the world genie" back into the bottle. The story just suffers strait out of that central issue where the writers have chosen to ignore it for the sake of plot convivence.
I think the wol being a side character couldve been good if written well, like wuk lamat was clearly inexperienced in combat, communication and other skills, the wol couldve easily been a guide for her to better herself, maybe a training montage or something like when wuk lamat fought bakool ja ja and won i was honestly baffled just a few cutscenes ago her strongest axe swing couldnt even make that guy flinch ao where did this strength even come from? Just simple things like that while it still wouldve left plot holes couldve felt better to witness
Players: It's gonna be a vacation expansion MSQ: WoL goes on vacation. Players: where's WoL?! This expansion sucks! All kidding aside, I enjoyed the MSQ. I did wish to have more VA this time around but I do understand FF14 supports multiple languages and it would be a logistical nightmare if it were fully VA. I've thought Wuk Lamat was a fun character. She reminded me of younger self when starting on the new RPG on PS1. Excitable, optimistic, and naive. I suppose others found that annoying. I wonder if their opinion would sway if Wuk Lamat was replaced with a young Miqote with those big eyes. Perhaps then how she acted in MSQ would make more sense.
Being a body guard while traveling a brand new island & learning about each of the groups of ppl that live there with no empire or world ending threat to fight against sounds like a vacation to me. Especially if its back home in eorzea, you cant stay there forever. And its a new expansion, of course things will start off slow to introduce their new plans for the game. 2nd half of the story was of course not a vacation anymore. World ending crisis needed to be stopped
Ahh finally someone who doesnt hate Wuk Lamat. We're such a minority. I liked her character, always positive and outgoing like an adventurer while showing personal development on her journey to become ruler of her country, unlike her competition. Also most of the english voice acting went over my head, like i didnt hear bad lines like what so many ppl complain about. Like 80-90% of her lines were fine to me. I only dont like how they wrote Wuk to be such a peacemaker when obviously the enemy wont change their mind. And its not even the same 'person', like we need to kill at this point. There's no point in trying to find reason anymore; the path has already been laid out.
DT as a story. Had a good premise. Had good characters marred by mediocre pacing and direction. The raids wiped that entire demerit from my brain and I'm just playing the raids now... Its terrible. I dont even gain much out of it but they're so fun.
I feel like this expansion is the opposite of Endwalker. Endwalker's story was amazing (the base game at least) and the side content is lacking. I felt like I was gonna fall asleep in the MSQ until like 97 in DT but the side content is so much fun
I've been incredibly hesitant to get the expansion when I resub for the Rising event. I've been hearing and reading how terrible the story is, how annoying Wuk is throughout, and how people are better off skipping the cutscenes. I play FF games (and especially XIV) for the story, so if the story is terrible, I'm not going to enjoy it much. Yes, some of the raid fights look fun, sure. But if the storyline for even that section is lacking, I probably won't like it much. I liked the EW 8-man raid story and the 24-man one too - and their fights were fun. I didn't like the ShB 8-man raid story much and those fights were mostly annoying to me. I think I only did most of them only once other than E12 I did way too many times. The Nier raid was a cool story, but the fights were sometimes annoying. In the end, I'm still on the fence - I'm leaning towards if I get the expansion, I'll be skipping through the MSQ as much as possible - which isn't what I want to do, but if it's heavily focused on Wuk and Wuk is that badly written, I'm not going to be able to put up with that much.
I skipped everything and i'm proud of it. Saw all reviews about this poorly written MSQ plot. For the content so far is "mid" still i recommend, skip msq and save your time enjoying leveling jobs instead.
I'll put it this way, you'll still need to play through 7.0 for the 8.0 expansion. Although It is very worrisome that Yoshi P would repeat history with such a poor story that was not received well (stormblood). I also dislike the so-called defenders of the story because they are using identity politics to shield bad writing and voice direction from actual criticism. The same goes for those using the "woke" lamat arguments because it just dilutes the main issue....the story was bad and the focused characters were just as bad.
@@grygaming5519 How does Wuk compare to Zero for the writing? I rather enjoyed Zero and her storyline and development, as well as helping her recover and I hope we see more of her in a future patch or expansion.
@@SantosSilva9901 If you play the dungeons via the DF (rather than already have a group through your FC, etc) - how well are random players doing in the MSQ content on average? @@esperan2k Zero's presentation and character makes sense. The 13th is a death world, a realm where death is meaningless...her character is one of flat, melancholy and apprehension. Wuk....is every negative that people have about Naruto and Asta...tune it up to 100, minus the screaming.
It's a 3/10 for me Loved the new raid but there's nothing left to really keep me so I've uninstalled the game until the next patch... My faith in their ability to write a good story has plummeted, I don't know if they have what it takes to turn this all around with the new writers.
If you play the game now, I mean today, and for the last few days you will see it is "dead". Maybe because of summer or ppl got irl much to do but its even worse then before

The fact that my static is loving the simple but engaging story of the raid tier, far more then 99% of DT is very telling.
