Even though I have both cards, I think the Platinum is geared more for the avid traveler while VX is a little more usable because of the 2x on everything. If you can't at the very least break even on the Platinum AF its not worth it.. Great vid 💥
In my current analysis, the venture x is a glorified 2x cash back card with some minimal travel benefits. I would definitely get it if I was planning some international travel, as I could meet the sign up bonus organically and 2% with no annual fees abroad is nothing to sneeze at. The Amex platinum is the far better domestic card though. Centurion, delta, and escape lounges have provided me outsized value for years. I’d argue that, for the $175 authorized user, the benefits I get justify the cost. The $695 though? That’s a different story.
Those are the most elite lounges. If I traveled enough and hit layovers with those lounges frequently it would rank higher for me. I like the VX because I still want to break able to spend on the card and earn a solid rewards rate through everyday purchases and get some travel benefits. Good analysis ^^
If I traveled often the Amex Platinum would be my choice solid solid travel perks. I have a Citi Premier so foreign travel would be easy if Amex wasn’t accepted everywhere.
The Platnium has a side benefit of the MR points @ 1.1 CPP toransfer to schwab brokerage. I transfers both gold and platnium SUB and regular spend...about $3200 into my brokerage. Even with a conservative portfolio of mostly schwab mutual funds and ETFs and a few random tech stocks....the return is around 8% for 2023. That covers the annual fees for both cards for the year. Not to mention the coupon book and lounge access. Its a keeper at $700AF, but anymore than that...May have to jettison it
That's a pretty awesome benefit. I like how disciplined you are that you just took the SUB and moved it into an investment account. That money can sit and grow and help pay off your annual fee. Super cool
@@TheRDGuarantee Additionally, that signup bonus could potentially grow in a way that exceeds the value of award travel redemptions or credit card benefits.
Here are some questions to help you decide: 1. Which airports do you fly through regularly? 2. Which airport lounges do you have access to? 3. Do you want lounge access for family members? 4. Which benefits/credits on the Amex Platinum would you use organically? 5. Are you willing to juggle multiple cards in order to earn the most points possible? Or do you want a simple card ecosystem? 6. Can you meet the minimum spend on business cards? (Amex Business Platinum and Venture X Business are the business counterparts)
@@VincentPascual … and you’re absolutely correct. I do see LAX (home airport) has Delta and Amex lounge. We do not have a Sapphire lounge and don’t think we will anytime soon. I am though relocating to Las Vegas this year and need to research that too. But based on what we’re chatting about, Amex makes more sense right now. And I also tend to fly Delta so that should give me a clearer answer to your point.
@@ItsJustMeStevie I was just in Vegas not too long ago. There is a Centurion Lounge there now and they will be getting Capital One and Chase lounges sometime in the future. There are also 2 Priority Pass lounges (both are The Club and one of them is in the same concourse as Centurion) and a United Club. There are no Delta Sky Clubs though. Plat would make the most sense for you, as long as you’re willing to manage all of the credits. Biz Plat has fewer credits to manage.
@@ItsJustMeStevie Looks like the Platinum Card may be the better choice for you if Delta / AmEx lounges are appealing. AmEx also has Delta as a transfer partner, so all the membership rewards points you earn can go right into free Delta flights.
Thanks for the video, I've got the Venture X and have been getting offers from Amex to get the platinum. I LOVE the idea of the lounge access from the Amex and the ability to book direct with airlines but other than that I don't know if I would use the other credits. That 150K bonus they are offering is tempting thou
Would you consider getting the AMEX and keeping the VX? They do overlap some but not completely… I settled on just the VX because I’m sure these types of 150k ish bonus offers will be back someday on the Platinum
Simple question Just ask if you fly several times a month all year. Is it for those who fly several times a year. No So i guess im saying many of you are using a card that you shouldn't have.. I also don't want the vx.
Dude you said you where going to show us what one you got... so what one? Also Platnium is way better vaule for domestic travel, IMO! I use the crap out of it and Marriott + Delta are the best combo transfer partners. It cost me nothing to fly from Phoenix to Orlando and stay at the Gaylord resort for 5 nights with my kids to see Disney World. If you know anything about the Gaylord Resort you know its very nice resort. Kids loved it
I guess I did talk around that! I ended up getting the Venture X. Even with some elevated offers I was getting in the mail (125,000 MR points) I couldn't bring myself to justify it, as I wanted to pick one of these two cards and hold them for at least a little while. My biggest problem is not naturally utilizing the credits. I agree that Marriott and Delta are awesome brands and having that connection via the Platinum card is well worth it. I have heard of the Gaylord Resort. Never been fortunate enough to get to stay there yet, but hopefully one day 🫰🏼

Good perspective Mike. If you had to choose between one which would you keep?
@@TheRDGuarantee probably the Platinum because im more deeper in Amex MR ecosystem. I also have a Centurion Lounge here at my home airport
I don’t see how the 2x makes much sense when you can cover so many categories with savor one at 3% which can convert to 3x.

To clarify, you’re talking about the Schwab Platinum. The vanilla Platinum only lets you cash out MR points at 0.6 cents per point.

@@VincentPascual Absolutely. I come from an investing mindset so its a brilliant strategy from where I sit
Amex Platinum is a glorified coupon book with subpar point multipliers.
There are promos that I found that offer 125k and 150k for Amex platinum. I’m still undecided what travel card to get. Smb 😢
If you’d like to apply for the venture x and you use my referral I’ll pay and additional $50

Let’s go!
