I played in the band that followed this performance on the telethon. I met them both and got their autographs backstage at Caesars Palace. They were both very gracious and kind to this young musician. RIP
Great story of 2 exceptional performers, thank you. What instrument do you play? I play trumpet.
@@philpiper Hey Phil! I was the trumpet soloist in the 1982-3 McDonald's Jazz Band.

The queen of jazz herself and the most talented man this earth has seen.
Ain't that the truth😊
Amen to that !!!😊
Amen 🙏
Amen
it don't get no better than this
That was pretty good! They were on a tight rope there, Sammy holding on for dear life in the presence of The Divine One. He held it together, hit his harmony note impressively and showed proper respect for the greatest female jazz vocalist of all time.
She was the greatest
For those that didnt see it, This was Sarah coming full circle, near the end of her Career, she ends with the next Billy Eckstine once again!
Sammy, and Sarah, simply Superb. Does not get any better than this. Perfect duet.
Just perfect. So happy it has been captured on video for posterity. England, October, 2024.
There is only one word for Sarah Vaughan! PHENOMENAL!!!
Mary Anne walker, this also applies to Sammy Davis Jr.
Oh, geniuses, oh the marvel of music 👴🏽👴🏽🙏🏽✊🏾👍🏾❤️👋🏽
Two of my my all time favorites. I can't say enough about how much I love both of them.
They both would pass away in seven years weeks apart.
The look of total admiration on Sammy Davis Jr.'s face, for Sarah Vaughan, says it all. He even gave profs to Billy Eckstine.
props
These sweet hearts were more than giants, they were a gift from God
Absolutely! THANK YOU LORD 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@DINOLOVER6717 Thank you also in Jesus name
If I know anything about the two of them, this was minimally rehearsed, if at all. It was just two wonderful wonderful singers following each other in full command of their art. We don't see this kind of performance anymore, let alone these kind of voices. We can only imagine. Just fantasize about Sarah singing Pink's "Glitter in the Air".
Impro between Giants!
Absolute perfection, superb talents both of them, remembered forever.
Perfectly preserved voice. I wish I could say the same with D.Warwick...
No one jumps on a song like Sarah she's like bam and she's there wow
Newark nj MS SARAH VAUGHN WE MISS U ANGEL 😇

I love how he just is laughing cos she can't comprehend what he is standing next to. So beautiful
Two stupendous singers and stylists. Sarah is unbelievable, but Sammy can't help mugging. :)

MARAVILLOSOS!
Sarah, Sammy, duo lindo, inolvidables, gracias
It was obvious Sammmy was in awe of her. I saw Sarah Vaughan perform for the first and only about this time, in the early 1980s, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dave Brubeck opened for her. I noticed that she was missing a tooth, but in all TV appearances before and after, she wasn't, so maybe she was between dental visits.
What a stupid thing to mention that she was missing a tooth...go sit in the corner with a dunce cap "jazz aficionado "
Wonderful and brilliant
Divina divina per sempre 💋♥️💋
this was a time when real talent existed not like like these trash wannabes today who steal songs and call it sampling
SARAH VAUGHAN THE QUEEN OF JAZZ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I wish Ella and Sarah could’ve sang something intimately onstage like this. I’ve seen a few performances where they share a stage but we never got to saw the both of them working with each other like this.
On a couple of occasions they did sing together. Didn't come out too well because Ella was so competitive with Sarah. Singing over her. Ella sang fast Sarah slow. Men can be more generous with women than women are
That is a LIE. Ella was not “competitive” with Sarah, she loved Sarah.
How would any 'Playah like Sammy' be born with such a chiselled Visage, let alone Ears, Steps, Rhythm, etc? No accounting for Talent? But he certainly Never Lost with that Sarah Style. Not too Bad!
The Rat Pack Is Dead but I want to give my respect at the age of 60 and I'm a black woman from the south side Chicago if it wasn't for the Rat Pack Sammy Davis jr. Will have never became the first black man on stage God bless all the gangsters they did not let them kill Sammy Davis Jr one eye asked
❤
