It is SO refreshing to see someone recommending a variety of diets, and informing people. I think that this community stresses so much on ''the best'' way to do it, and will be willing to go from one thing to the next and they don't seem to realize that keeping it vegan and whole food is so much more important than anything else. I truly think that stressing everyday about if you have ''the best diet'' is worst than being constant and at peace on a very quite okay diet. Keep it up, i love your videos!
Im so excited to see more scientific explanations on diet ! I too don't enjoy following a diet without knowing why in regards to nutrition. Youre my new favourite channel, thanks girl !!
Your comments about different ratios of prot/carb/fats is so true! I'm finding the same thing; I am not too fussed about adhering to the one strict ratio (say, 5/80/15 ish) but what's more important is just consuming a varied WHOLEFOODS diet.
your videos are awesome! you should really do a response video to unconventional living's video on 'debunking the RT4' he and highcarbhannah think that carbs can make you fat and that's really shaking the vegan UA-cam community! Again, I cannot thank you enough for your videos they are so informative and educational!
What the hell are you talking about? Hannah lost a shit on of weight eating CARBS until she was FULL. Not force feeding to reach a stupid unscientific minimum of 2500+.
Thanks for sharing Savy! I really appreciate all your research and open-mindedness and I always learn so much from your videos. I have been getting quite annoyed recently with the pre-rational dogmatic preaching from some people and I really think a more balanced outlook is healthier. No one should feel afraid of any one macronutrient as long as it's in its whole food form. Also experimenting and eating mindfully is so important rather than trying to stick to one ratio. I think a whole foods plant based diet is the absolute best way we can eat, especially to heal our bodies. You look beautiful and healthy too :)
Great video, I've leaned so much from these! I'm wondering that can I eat whole grain oats (or actually rye flakes) with nuts and seeds? Would it make me gain fat or compromise my fatloss? I really like your approach :) It's good to not be too strict about following a diet and just focus on what the essence of the diet should be: whole foods from plants :)
I am really digging your channel and your presentation of scientific information along with the recognition that individuals need to tweak their diet for their specific needs. After all, we don't all have the same activity level or live in the same climate. You commented that chocolate is not a good choice. I assume (actually hope, as I love chocolate) that you are referring to chocolate candy or bars. I satisfy chocolate cravings with "chocolate milk" - cocoa powder mixed with stevia, almond milk, and sometimes ground flax. Occasionally, when I am just not very hungry (maybe from eating a lot the day before or not being very active) that could be breakfast or supper.
You are a genius! Ty for that excellent video. I think you have finally cracked the code when it comes to weight loss on a vegan diet. To be honest, when I was eating meat, I was actually thinner than I am now. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that meat takes so long to break down and also bc after leaving meat behind and trying to eat a more ethical diet, I turned to chips and cookies rather than thinly sliced ham sandwiches as a snack food and I begn to see the pounds pile on! I am going to try to put this into practice. It also is a relief that I do not have to worry about macronutrient ratios so much and trying to get my fat just as LOW as possible all the time.
Great info!!! The thorough explanations you provide in your videos really help to make sense of the complex processes that take place within our bodies. Please keep up the good work and stay away from the personal drama that distracts so many of your peers. Excellent channel for nutritional info!!! :)
Savy I enjoy your videos so much! You are truly inspirational. I've switched to fruitafter4 5 days ago and so far so good! Thinking about making videos myself showing my results. Thanks once again for the information you're putting out there! It's helping me a lot!
Please discuss hypoglycemia in this diet. I have been having increasingly severe headaches at night and in the morning. I believe this started to develop when I started more severly restricting fat, oils and nuts and seeds. I also have been carbing up during the first part of day, getting nicely full and eating much less later in day...Which I now believe to be part of my problem. I really enjoy your videos:)
+Earthling Nutrition. I use sparingly raw coconut palm sugar and agave. I eat fruit throughout day but mate like a snack or when I want something sweet. I have the occassional smoothly from blueberries, banana (single) and greens. Sometimes I through in a date or two. Thanks, for, responding😌
Hey There! I really love your videos & your vegan message. If you have time to answer, I just have a few questions! I suffer from leaky gut, IBS-C, motility issues, SIBO in the past (recently tested negative). I have developed food intolerances/ allergies over this past year since my symptoms started after traveling last March. When I eat most foods my stomach reacts with an inflammatory response causing abdominal distention (no gas present) and even worse constipation then I normally have. I have become extremely sensitive to all nuts/seeds, oats, brown rice, all beans and lentils, all herbs & spices besides sea salt and black pepper. The only starches I seem to not have a reaction to is jasmine rice/white rice, squashes, and sweet potatoes even though they still cause constipation. As, I am severely limited with ingredients, I was just wondering if you think I could transition from a 'Rawtil4' type of diet to a more starch based vegan diet? I have been trying to do this for months but my starch sources are so limited, and most fruits do not cause any reactions for me, so thats the main reason I have been 'Rawtil4' for this period of time. My ideal way of eating would be a starch based vegan diet but it has been so hard trying to figure out meals with the limited ingredients I can eat. Thank you for your time! -Cat
great video ! I really like the charts and the facts. Yeah fiber extremely important. Avocados a great fat to eat, very healthy food to consume. Your right on! if people would stick to whole plant foods, no processing , blending and food processor. And eat foods in there whole natural state. They would find maintaining weight and health simple and easy.Good idea start a whole plant foods community
First time commenting on a vid. I think your amazing...!! I was wondering which avocado sushi would be best? White rice avocado or brown rice avocado? Keep posting your truly awesome and inspiring!
I did this before but I'm sedentary person though I love to walk during the day. I eats fruits at night like watermelon and papaya and I had this difficulty in sleep that i need to go ou of the house even late at night just to walk for an hour before I can go to sleep. Pls help
Savy, especially for this video, can you supply the references to the research and graphics your using? I would like to read some of the primary literature that you find trustworthy and most informative.
In the absence of disease, a whole foods plant based diet I likely adequate. However, when disease is present - and I'd include obesity here (more of a dis-ease) - a low fat, high carb, whole foods diet is optimal - at least according to the vegan doctors. I'm surprised by some of the comments related to oil. I thought it was widely know oils - all oil - are inflammatory to the arteries, and as we know, inflammation is a bad thing in our bodies. Plus they're 100% Processed and 100% fat - as mentioned. At some point it might be interesting to address the concept of food addiction and pleasure of some foods - refined flours and sugars specifically. And maybe even salt (an SOS free diet). I know you already don't promote the use of salt, but you do so in regard To water retention, if I've understood that correctly.
Veggie V The studies that I have looked at for nuts specifically included participants who were obese, overweight, normal weight. There were no negative results shown with nut consumption despite some people having weight issues. So at the moment I think that whole food fats are fine, and have adjusted my opinions on HCLF accordingly. I'll compile these studies into a video soon. Haha yes I think people are excited about hearing "fat" and "fine" in the same sentence after so long, but definitely I mean whole food fats, not oils whatsoever. :) Yes this would be a good topic, I do think there are biochemical engagements between refined foods and our bodies/brains as we get used to having quick access to fat, sugar, salt in all it's purest forms. Interesting, I'll write it down and make it into something in the future. :)
Thank you soo muchh for all this information! I finally understand a lot of things in my diet and why I feel discomfort sometimes. But, what about soy? Soy milk or soy meat?
I found it interesting when you said that some refined carbs are okay. Is it the high GI of these foods that is the only problem? What are your thoughts about fortified foods like breads and cereals? Are these added nutrients readily bio available to us?
Of course I know the "best" answer would be to consume the whole food form to get your fiber, however have you come across any information that is done on a fiber supplement in pill or powder form? Would we receive any benefits at all from taking a fiber supplement when consuming things with a higher GI?
Really appreciate your science based approach. Can you talk about what can people do that have had their gall bladder removed, does that mean the fat intake should be even lower?
Earthling Nutrition what are your views on fresh fruit and/or veg juices (not store bought) as far as fiber and GI go. I make and drink quite a lot of juice every day.
Anne-Marie CarbsTheFuckUp! Glycemic responses are less controlled when fiber is removed. I suggest drinking water with meals the majority of the time. Juices are fine occasionally :)
I have been doing basically doing raw til 4 but not smashing in the carbs. I noticed when I tried to switch it to fruit after 4 I am now eating 2 cooked meals a day instead of one. I am not sure I like eating that much cooked food but will keep giving it a chance.
I can appreciate the research you are doing. I have read much of what you have, but I'm not good at presenting the information. While fiber plays a role in slowing uptake there are other things going on particularly with fruits. See around 2:19 in this video nutritionfacts.org/video/if-fructose-is-bad-what-about-fruit/
Love that video. Gregor has made such an immense contribution to my understanding of nutrition it's hard to compliment him enough. That's also why I admire Savy's perspective as well. She's building on a solid science foundation and making real contributions herself. Now we just have to get the word out to others.
Thanks for this video Savy. I have a question: could someone potentially have high insulin levels and yet low blood glucose levels because over-production of insulin keeps it low or even too low (i.e. hypocalcemia)? Another question regarding rice meal: since in this case you don't rinse and soak the rice, could this be problematic in terms of anti-nutrients? Thanks!
tejka007 I'm not sure about that, that may happen with people taking insulin, but perhaps pancreatic illness would cause the beta cells to release too much insulin. I'll write this down so if I come across it in my research I'll mention it in a video :) I personally don't rinse/soak my rice, but if you wanted to give it a rinse and lay it out on paper towel to dry you could do this. :) I'll research anti-nutrients in rice and form an opinion. Thanks for the suggestions! :)
***** Yes, one purpose that rinsing rice has is to clean it; the other one is to reduce phytic acid that may affect mineral absorption (e.g. iron, copper, calcium, zinc) and makes rice more digestible. This is true for all grains, beans, nuts and seeds.
thank you so much for the video! can I ask what your recommendations for a girl with poly cystic ovarian syndrome are? I gained weight on raw till 4 and my symptoms have become worst I feel horrible and am starting to become quiet depressed, I really don't want to go back to restriction but I cannot continue to gain weight
Hi, I've been on raw after 4 for a few weeks now. If I want to lose fat, how many minutes of cardio should I be aiming for in the morning? Do you recommend HIIT instead of just running? Thank you
in your sushi example you said that your blood sugar level would be normal after 1-2h, did I understood that correctly? and the rise of the blood sugar level causes fat storage, right? but why do you recommend eating only fruits/fats/vegetables for dinner, if the blood sugar level after eating white rice is normal again after 2 hours? sorry, i'm just a bit confused right now. :)
Cristina Movila Watermelon and dates are fine, there is way more flexibility with carbohydrates than with oil. Especially when coming from whole foods like watermelon and dates are. :)
I sweeten my morning cereal with Truvia (erythritol or something) and a mashed banana, if I dont have mashed banana I use a bit of brown sugar. I think the truvia is great, and what I've read about this sugar substitute is that it is an antioxidant. Is has a little bit of stevia, but not much (I dont mind because its cheaper to me locally to buy truvia than straight up erythriol or erythritol?).
juicy jane Glycemic response from watermelon will have finished before fat even reaches small intestine so your salad sounds completely fine and very delicious :)
applesandamandas Tahini is fine (made from seeds right), watch the store bought stuff for added oil and salt. I recommend you make your own at home! NO oils, only whole plant fats (nuts, seeds, avocados).
Thank you for responding Earthling Nutrition and YESSSS i'm obsessed with tahini :) ALi- V I don't have coconut meat, i was just wondering for like cooking and stuff. I actually havent even used coconut oil to eat since i've become HCLF vegan!
I am commenting after watching it only once. I am doing fruit after four and am noticing my waistline is gradually going down. Please explain why you are referring to white potatoes as refined carbohydrates. They clearly are whole plant foods Nothing has been removed or processed out of them.
Stupid question, beans are as good as brown rice or more like white rice? Beans have a lot of fiber, or not? Thank you for the video, I LOVE your channel!!
Giacinta Micallef There are many plant foods that offer more nutrition and more controlled glycemic responses. Doesn't mean watermelon/potatoes are bad for people, but choose more nutritious options more often :)
I just found an interesting report about too much fibre intake and it really makes sense to me. www.gutsense.org/reports/myth.html "Colon Cancer cites studies that demonstrate the connection between increased fiber consumption and colon cancer." "Women [in the West] are affected by gallstones far more than men, because they are more likely to maintain a “healthy” diet, which nowadays means a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber. " "Soluble fiber is a hyperosmolar laxative and diarrhea-causing agent. It does make stools watery, but it also causes bowel inflammation, bloating, and flatulence, and isn‘t suitable for extended use." "Once inside the body, these fiber fillers remain indigestible, hold onto water just as tight, and prevent absorption. " Savy, do you think this could cause real problems and bad effects in your system? This may be the cause of my problems, because I always search for high-fibre stuff, hoping that will not make me fat so I can sure eat a bit more food... (yeah, ed in my past, some old habits are hard to let go)

I would definitely join your community. I believe in a variety of foods in our diet too!
Please talk about more food combining ..!!! What food goes good with what.. Kinda stuff
MommyTang Eat whatever combinations of whole plant foods that suit you best! :)

cooking tomato in oil helps to greatly increase lycopene available for us to digest.

Cristina Movila Watermelon and dates are fine, there is way more flexibility with carbohydrates than with oil. Especially when coming from whole foods like watermelon and dates are. :)
what's your definition of an improperly combined meal (as appeared on Transit Time Chart)?
I sweeten my morning cereal with Truvia (erythritol or something) and a mashed banana, if I dont have mashed banana I use a bit of brown sugar. I think the truvia is great, and what I've read about this sugar substitute is that it is an antioxidant. Is has a little bit of stevia, but not much (I dont mind because its cheaper to me locally to buy truvia than straight up erythriol or erythritol?).
Liz Torres Yes I agree with this, I've watched Nutrition Facts.org videos on stevia and erythritol. I personally use truvia as well :)
since you advise having fats along with fruits, but watermelon is a high GI food, should I NOT eat a salad with avocado and watermelon as a dinner?
juicy jane Glycemic response from watermelon will have finished before fat even reaches small intestine so your salad sounds completely fine and very delicious :)
watermelon =/.... so question, if i eat a food with a high GI could i slow that down with a handful on fats
ALi- V Don't fear watermelon mate! Just choose lower GI foods more often and have as a treat! :)
gotcha... sometimes when i eat my rice though i throw in some brown rice with beans and maybe a side of nuts lol try to balance it out
would you say animal fat is worse than refined oils such as olive or coconut oil?
HI I HOPE YOU SEE THIS COMMENT! ARE BAKED FRUITS SUCH AS PLANTAINS OK ON FRUIT AFTER 4???
How much fat should we eat and when?
If you eat carbs along with fats and protein doesn't that slow digestion so fiber wouldn't be a problem?
So tahini is good right? & does that cut out coconut oul?
applesandamandas Tahini is fine (made from seeds right), watch the store bought stuff for added oil and salt. I recommend you make your own at home! NO oils, only whole plant fats (nuts, seeds, avocados).
applesandamandas maybe eat the actual coconut meat ?
Thank you for responding Earthling Nutrition and YESSSS i'm obsessed with tahini :) ALi- V I don't have coconut meat, i was just wondering for like cooking and stuff. I actually havent even used coconut oil to eat since i've become HCLF vegan!
from what i recently seen coconut oil isn't to good =/ no oils are really.
Would tahini be considered a processed fat:-/?
what is about gluten vs no gluten consuming influences on weight/health? maybe u can make a video about it :)
I am commenting after watching it only once. I am doing fruit after four and am noticing my waistline is gradually going down. Please explain why you are referring to white potatoes as refined carbohydrates. They clearly are whole plant foods Nothing has been removed or processed out of them.
noitalfed She probably means potatoes without the skin, such as a skinned white potato or a potato flour. The skin is where the fiber is.
Stupid question, beans are as good as brown rice or more like white rice? Beans have a lot of fiber, or not? Thank you for the video, I LOVE your channel!!
Lulu beans have tons of fiber, and are slow digesting. great for weight loss, lots of protein too.
Lulu Thank you! Beans have a low GI because of their high fiber content. A really good choice!
Thank you!! RumpleForeskin Earthling Nutrition
Is tahini okay? It has no added ingredients, it's just sesame paste. I like to have it with rice
Rainbow Kitschen Yes it's got intact fiber, watch the salt in store brands, but your brand seems A-okay! :)
Earthling Nutrition So it's fine with white rice, pasta and potatoes? It won't lead to fat gain?
so are you saying that white potatoes and watermelon are bad for you ?
Giacinta Micallef There are many plant foods that offer more nutrition and more controlled glycemic responses. Doesn't mean watermelon/potatoes are bad for people, but choose more nutritious options more often :)
I thought potatoes were healthy???? It's a whole food right?
you live in Saskatchewan???
Michelle Yungwirth Yes! :)
I'm just confused because in your other videos you put white sugar on your foods...
melissa kerman I no longer do this :)
I just found an interesting report about too much fibre intake and it really makes sense to me. www.gutsense.org/reports/myth.html
"Colon Cancer cites studies that demonstrate the connection between increased fiber consumption and colon cancer." "Women [in the West] are affected by gallstones far more than men, because they are more likely to maintain a “healthy” diet, which nowadays means a diet that is low in fat and high in fiber. "
Savy, do you think this could cause real problems and bad effects in your system? This may be the cause of my problems, because I always search for high-fibre stuff, hoping that will not make me fat so I can sure eat a bit more food... (yeah, ed in my past, some old habits are hard to let go)
