You did such a nice job of showing Heritage Village. And included the beautiful library, too. The food at the picket House is delicious -always a great place to stop when you’re hankering for some crispy fried chicken, mashed taters, and peach cobbler.
This is one of your best. Not because it's better than any other, but because it is a place that off the beaten path that screams humans working and playing hard. Thanks.
Hello,. I live in. Woodville Texas & go to the Heritage Village to eat all the time. Don't forget about the Picket House, serving home cooked foods family style. Yes a very good place for family fun. Very educational for learning the past way of living in. E. Tex.
With the hill country getting all the attention it’s nice to see east Texas getting a little. While a lot of areas are just oceans of bland corporate pine plantations there are still some beautiful naturally wooded forest areas and nice friendly small towns.
I'm rolling up on 65 years old now and clearly remember my grandparents taking me along with my brothers there some 55 years ago . It's expanded over the years but still had plenty for our little minds to soak in. What an adventure.
Hey Secrets of Texas! I’m on Day 1 of my Secrets of Texas vacation. I’m based in Bryan and today am visiting Navasota, Anderson, Plantersville, Rhoan’s Prairie and Huntsville. I must have watched your videos a dozen times this week to build my itinerary. Wish me luck!
My father was a cotton farmer outside Lubbbock back in 50s&60s when I was 9 in 1964 he became a preacher and his first church was a country church in east Texas I had never seen so many trees and creeks in my short life Still love east Texas to this day
thank you so much for this chanel i am just starting homeschool with 4 kids and have been want ing to do texas history with texas field trips but wasn’t sure if we’re to go or what all to teach as Texas does have so much history but i’m grateful to have found this chanel’s keep up the grate work
Glad to see you made. I recommend this back when you toured Liberty. We go eat there about once a month the go to the casino down the road…. Safe travels
I would love to visit this place. I love historical sites. Fort Concho, Fort Davis, and Fort Gibson (Oklahoma) are my main visits, as well as Silver Dollar City.
I've been through Woodville hundreds of times and never knew about any of this stuff. Next time I go through there I will have to stop and visit some of these old houses. Thanks for sharing!
Went hiking around the area earlier this year and like you mentioned there are such a variety of different trees there. Over off the Kirby Nature Trail there is a whole little grove of those magnolia trees I came across. I had to sit down and have a snack under them before continuing. The big thicket area of Texas has so many little treasures tucked off in the woods
Eat at the Picket House. You won't be disappointed. Chicken and dumplings. Fram raised vegetables. They used to serve sassafras tea but sadly had ti quit serving it. It made your heart race.
The restaurant is awesome also, they dress like old times, have shareable tables and serve food in family bowls! But sadly they have resorted to instant potatoes. They always serve good fried chicken and awesome cobbler.❤
Woohoo! Hi from Woodville new Zealand

I used to come to this place in the ’80s whenever I visited my grandparents.
Very nice !……thanks for the video.
Fantastic video. Thank you. I loved that you filmed the rain and took so much time in all of the village!
I'm glad I found your channel. Your name is what caught my eye: "Secrets of Texas." What's in a name? Lots.
The Pickett House Restaurant is the best thing there. Fried chicken and Chicken n dumplings is the best main course ever.
And that cobbler and ice cream will make your sticker peck out
I really like historical villages like this. Very nice.
That Was Neat 👍👍👍😉
Thank you, Secrets of Texas.
Definitely need to add this to our list!!! Love these historic treasures!!
I visited another Heritage Village near Dennison Texas with my wife earlier this month. We loved it.
Cool looking place

Off of 190 west outside of Woodville

I missed East Texas so much when I retire I'm coming back there to die.

“Clean water daily”. 😆 Guess it pays get up early and be the first in line for the bath?
I live in West Texas and spent about 2 years in East Texas.
Just LOVE it!!! 🙏🌷
I've been looking at this place when driving by I'm gonna have to stop in mow
Idk if you’ve been to Old Town Spring but if you liked this, you’ll like the museum there too.
The restaurant is awesome also, they dress like old times, have shareable tables and serve food in family bowls! But sadly they have resorted to instant potatoes. They always serve good fried chicken and awesome cobbler.❤
what do you think of Brady Texas?
You didn't mention that the Picket House serves family style, big platters and bowls and pass the biscuits please.
Have you been to Gladys City in Beaumont?
That's a neat place to go. Very similar to this, but not as many trees. They have a Centennial historical marker out front for the Lucas Gusher.
My family used to go to The Picket House in the early 70's when I was a little boy. In 2002 my wife and I toured Heritage Village.
It would be cool if it was actually functioning instead of a display
