Living about 45 minutes away, my wife and I went to West Columbia last Saturday. Most of the buildings you were able to enter were locked up, but it was still an interesting road trip that we enjoyed. Thanks for the video that explained a lot of the local history.
Another excellent episode. This time we got a glimpse of you on the reflection. Around the dinner table you are known as “the mystery man with all the Texas history”. Thank you for sharing.
I live just behind the V.H.Plantation maybe 1/4 Mile in Columbia Lakes Subdivision , it has regular events and also serves as a backup evacuation route when C.R. 25 floods and you cant't get on Hwy.35 .
Wow! I did not know that existed that town. I've been living in Texas for 17 years. I'm trying to do more traveling around and your videos really inspired me to get out and hit the open road. Keep them up and be careful out there and stay cool. Have you ever been to brenham Texas?
Yes, I live just behind the Plantation and the State has trappers come in and remove the Big Girls when the get 10 ft. or bigger , it's been a few years since the last round up !
Are the slave cabins still there at this plantation? That school for African American children looks like a must see! Adding this town to my list of Texas towns. I’m from San Antonio and plan on touring small towns of my state! Just went to Cuero a couple weeks ago. Planning soon for Victoria and Smithville.
Not being born in Texas, or have gone to school here. I really appreciate this video with showing some of the history of this great state! Thank you so much great work 👍
Another great video. The Columbia Cemetery in town is a historic cemetery with lots of historical markers. Thanks for the close up shots of several of the markers around town.
Given the current political climate here in Texas I truly wonder if there will be some attempts to alter the reference to slavery at these historical sites.

Varner-Hogg Plantation is a must stop and see when going through West Columbia. It’s so beautiful there.

Thanks for showing us such beautiful places. Safe travels!
I live in West Columbia and I always head about how it was the first capital of Texas and I also hear a LOT of scary stories
Cool video! Another location for my bucket list. Thank you.
Excellent video! I had no idea all of this history existed in that town. I will add it to my Texas Bucket List!

I made 2 videos about the Brenham area
Thank you:-). I'll look at them. Happy travels.
That old oak tree was spectacular. Definitely a great stop to go on one day.
We were there for a farmer's market Saturday. If you go in farmer's market days there is free entry to the plantation site.
I would love to live there, I came to love Texas when I went over the road with my husband when he was a trucker
Please go looking around St Jo Texas
Already have
Awesome Texas history content 👏. Are there gators in that area?

Does anyone know what happened to the Secrets of Texas guy? He's not making anymore videos.
Awesome. That might be the area of Texas where they are supposed to have a South Carolina accent. (Columbia being the capital of SC.)
No we don’t have a South Carolina accent or well to me we don’t

Great video !
Good video 👍🏻
I'm confused with Washington-on-the-Brazos and Columbia are they the same town? Same area? Edit Okay wait you just said Brazos
Both along the Brazos but different towns
Why would I want a "taste" of the "old south"? Especially in badly governed Old Texas?
I recommend that you keep asking yourself that question
@@secretsoftexas6872 What question? 😄 I was being facetious.
Texas is fine..our governor Abbott is doing a great job against Biden and his border Czar Kamala. She's a worthless feck 🤮
