Brilliant video! Own a 182 myself and love it more than any other sporty car I've owned, agreed with everything you say. Currently have a Audi S3 8p too, and on a spirited drive the clio wins for me. Very well put together and you have good presentation. A natural.
Great review, I agree completely. I've got a black 55reg 182 with the skorpion 192 exhaust, sport catback, whiteline bracing bar, ktec remap and itg air filter, and lowered a bit...it's bloody mint! These things are future classics... I hope!!!
@@LandyMR Nice one! Mine has been off the road for a couple of years due to other projects I need to get it going again! What year/spec did you go for?
Just got one myself and absolutely love it, so much fun to drive round my new home Australia. Definitely right they're going to be sought after in the future! Nothing else quite like it
How much would you pay for one that has 130k km. Mint condition interior and exterior with 12 months rego. 2005 cup edition with the RS192 Exhaust system, timing belt/aux belt and water pump and clutch done in the last 12 months by a renault specialist (verified)
Great video mate. Fell in love with this car when i was 14-15 when a friend had one. Bought one last year in October, turned out it had alot more wrong than i thought it did. From Camshaft seals, Power steering pump ive fixed it up. Now only cosmetics remain. Worth every penny. Living my childhood dream!
DanSUFC4LIFE Cheers - good to hear! I've been pretty lucky with mine so far, no real issues bar the steering wheel melt, from what I've seen/heard though as long as you keep it serviced well etc they are pretty reliable.
Also, your comment about the seats was dead on, my dad had a really crappy V reg Megane, but I'm yet to find any seats which are anywhere near as comfy AND supportive, I don't understand why they were fitted to a 1.6 Megane but I'm so glad they did!
+Siyath Widyaratne Thanks! Good luck finding a 182... just make sure the belts have been done. I've finally got them done on mine along with a service. £750.
Fantastic review, detailed and funny. I owned a 182 for a few years, and live only a few minutes from those roads, driving them regularly. Couldn't agree more on the french/german build quality debate. 182 only ever needed brakes and servicing (regular spirited driving), where as in my gti I was forever replacing coilpacks/filters/sensors.
Thanks...very jelous you live so near to Cairngorms! I never understand the German 'build quality' thing. Stuff like MK2 Golf, Merc W124 and E30 were genuinely very well built cars...since then it seems to be a lot more about just a brand and badge engineering.
CarambleTV An E30 M3 is the dream buy, but circa £40k is a bit much. I owned a Saxo vts (for my sins) and it was the same, never let me down despite the daily right foot treatment. Then "progress" into an r32 = no end of issues. Hope to see more vids uploaded in the future, keep up the good work.
+7ampint VTS is awesome little motor. Just had awful image problem back in the day! So many cars I wish I'd bought before prices went crazy, E30 M3, Sierra Cosworth, Delta Integrale...
I know this is an old video but I think this is a great review; probably one of the best of the Clio sport reviews out there IMO (and there are a LOT!) You should do more reviews! Very entertaining and informative, and I completely agree with all of your thoughts on the RS mk2 Clio. I've owned two 172s, a cdi 175 Megane and just purchased a 182 cup (FF as u call it in the UK). There isn't a lot out there that can match the clio 172/182 in driving pleasure and outright pace on twisty roads. Harry Metcalfe's story with the Lamborghini Gallardo is proof of that. There's also my own where a friend was behind me in a tuned WRX STI coupe on a national Park drive (very twisty). He was barely keeping up with the 172 even though we were going uphill. phenomal cars. Again, great review and please don't stop reviewing, you have a real talent. God bless
Thanks! I still have the 182 and the 205 GTi. I also took the Clio on Regular Car Reviews. I'll try and do more reviews soon, just the day job (TV stuff) gets in the way!
+Zach Graham Yes! Of course, do your homework on Cliosport and hold out for a good one. Too many people buy badly maintained dogs and claim they're unreliable etc. A good one is awesome.
quality review. wasn't sure at first but you made me laugh whilst giving a genuine review. I ve just bought one through convenience after having to give my 2015 Mazda 6 company car back. I ve always been anti French cars but this thing makes me drive like a hooligan, puts the biggest grin on my face, despite being worth a fraction of the Mazda, despite the lack of creature comforts and looking like a 35 year old boy racer. I ve always loved cars, and with tight twisty fast roads where I live, this thing is a blast, and the noise from the after market exhausts, makes it a joy to drive after several diesel rep mobil's. Fooking loving it! A cringe and a grin everytime I m seen in it.
+CarambleTV Buddy, the Mazda was a great car. I ordered mine in black, with privacy glass. Had the 2.2 diesel turbo engine. Lots of torque and voice activated bits n bobs. Got mistaken for a Lexus or merc etc. Wife loved it. Great looking car. But the 182 , bwarp bwarp , brwaaaarrrp, bombombombom! hahahahaha, twitching round the corners, heal and toeing. I love it. wife haaates it! haha.
After a string of hot hatches I did originally set out to but a boring 2.0 diesel something, but then bought the Clio instead. Completely inappropriate for my commute but it's just hilarious. Also *TOUCH WOOD* probably the most reliable car I've owned.
Alex Heath Good stuff, be sure to check out the buyers guide on Clio Sport forum and good luck, there's a lot of rough ones about but there's enough of them around that you can be picky and just hold out for one that's well sorted.
badandy85 yeah, frustrating the camera was steady but the sensor within the camera shat itself, used another cam on same mount for other vids and it was fine.
+Gregor Rose ah cool, I used to have a 2005 one of them it was pretty decent... when it worked. Always felt a bit more mini GT car than a hot hatch. I had a lot of reliability issues with it and got shot of it but some have said they've been very reliable... maybe I just had a duff one.
CarambleTV yeah I see where you’re coming from about the mini gt. Mine was pretty much hassle free for my first few months of ownership but then a few problems popped up recently.all fixed now though
@Michael Bromley - The Clio should not have a lot of torque steer, if it does I would assume there might be an issue with the front suspension, possibly just something like bushes needing replaced or maybe a geometry check is required. I'm not sure about specific options but I would assume that yours is like mine, a 182 'Full Fat' with the addition of the Cup pack suspension.
I can't quite remember I'm afraid so without talking total bollocks I think it was around every 5k and about 200 quid per damper. They are bloody good though so if you're buying one as a 'toy' rather than something to do 15k+ per year in (like me) then it makes more sense.
So right about the exhaust and bernal image, I really like to 182 handling and performance but I'm in my thirties now and would just look a bit silly in one :/
Late 30's? - you're just a pup, Stephen!. I'm 51 now and currently searching the 'net to buy a RS 182 as a fun second car as (according to my aching body) my motorcycling days are finally over. Admittedly, the Clio will probably be Black or Silver, as even I will admit that i'm too old for a Blue or Orange one. Age shouldn't be an issue though, IMO - If you love driving, you love driving - end of.
Pmsl Im 49 and just bought a black 182 2005 absolutely love it, dont care if I look a knob reliving my mispent youth being a boy racer now and again, the thrills and spills and sound never cease to put a smile on my face from ear to ear everytime I get in it.
Just picked up a 182 Cup in inferno orange yesterday, I really like it but have to be careful on the power since it has a hell of a lot of torque steer when you floor it under 3rdgear. But the strange thing is that it IS a Cup model but has half leather/cloth seats (Renault sport), C/C, A/C, and a multichanger CD player but I didn't even think this was an option on the Cup models?
NaeJoy It does but it took me time to get used to it since now I hardly notice it, as soon as you floor it the front wheels are struggling for grip and pulling the car either way.
Ha, thanks! You used to get Peugeot, I think the last one sold their was the 405. Fiat is just because they bought Chrysler so maybe you'll get the new Alfa...
CarambleTV Oh yeah I've seen a few French things over here. I even got to sit in a Renault R5 Turbo! Do you think anything Peugeot makes today is worth driving? I read UK mags and it seems like Peugeot can't remember why they were once good.
+Eric Leippe Kinda went wrong at the 206 (98) onwards and I think they're only just recovering. 208 is decent and new 308 is miles better. RCZ.R is also good. they've started to get Peugeot Sport involved in building the cars now and it's having a great effect on hot hatches.
CarambleTV Well that's good to hear. I look forward to more of your reviews. I found your channel because I wanted to find a recent review of the Mk1 Focus. I think I wake up curious about them at least once a month. I drive a BMW 318i (E30) and here in the US it is one of the few interesting cars you can drive without spending an assload of cash.
+Eric Leippe Love the E30 I used to have a 325i. Great fun, especially after a bit of rain! Had an MX-5 (Miata) after that, also good fun but crazy rust.
is it bad that I have a rs200 mk3 in alien green and every time I see a 182 I go looking on autotrader for one! don't get me wrong I know the 200 is an amazing car and on paper better but the 182 just looks so mental.
I like the 200 but yeah, the 182 is probably one of the last properly small cars with a ridiculous amount of power from a great big NA engine. Park one next to the latest Fiesta and it looks tiny.
Ha. I do like the Trophy, but with the mileage I've done so far the dampers would have to of been refurbished several times at relatively great expense. Can't be arsed with additional running costs like that, it's a 10yr old Clio...not an M5.
