Brake lines - I've heard hot summers softens them, too. Send pictures with dimensions & gross weight to TK racing in Lincoln CA for shocks & cushy bounce-free landings.

yep nice looking gear, tryed to use this set up on my Avid but ..... sent them back twice for a critical adjustment, they were not symmetrical. Drop a plumb bob from the center of your fuselage, then measure from that point to either brake mount plate, you will see that one side is longer than the other, this leverage difference between the two sides will create a real safety problem! A aeronautical engineer inspected this set up and stated that it is a problem waiting to happen, So I sent them back twice and explained to the builder with no avail, he didn't understand, rather stated that everyone else"s worked just fine, I sent mine back and now am waiting for a refund, CHECK YOUR SET UP BEFORE YOUR RETRIEVING YOUR PLANE FROM A GROUND LOOP!

Quick question, on the axle tube/backing plate..did you weld after set in place or just drill and pin and leave the tube and plate free on the outer side?

I inserted the axle into the tube, drilled it, and it is held in place by a AN3 bolt. I welded the backing plate that bolts to the caliber, to the gear tube. I am able to undo the AN3 bolt and slide out the axle if need be. When you set your axle, make sure to triple check the depth of it. If you leave to much out you will have too much play in the wheel bearings even with the axle nut tightened all the way down the threads. I hope this helps.

I've got a similar set, but not as wide (nor installed). All the reports on avidfoxflyers about bending the web over that are makes me think too much. (Still waiting on FAA for registration)

I've seen that too, but so far so good and I am sure you can see in some of my videos I don't always land smooth. I leave it up to you. When it comes send us a video. Fly Safe Don.

Can springs be changed out later to shock/spring combo?

On this set up no I do not think so. Well if you mod the hell out of them then maybe haha. You may want to look into the Shock Monsters set up. The full set up would run you around $4.5k or so. I found the gear I have to be a good middle ground.

How did the gear affect your air speed? What is the before and after? Thanks

I did lose around 5 mph from ground speed, I would cruse around 80 mph ground to around 76-75 mph now. I think if I covered them I would get 1-2 mph back, the bigger tires do not help haha.

@@dcavidflyer3073 On my Avid Flyer, I lost 5 mph in cruise from the stock Avid gear. I do have the main legs faired and pointed front and back and then wrapped in fabric. My gear was built by Lowell Fitt, and worked fine. It had been made for a Kitfox, so I had to get a new cabane built. 1/2" difference in width between gear leg mounts from Kitfox to Avid. Mine is also much more stable on the ground handling. Over all, a nice improvement.

@@jimchuk8511 Yes I lost some speed to, I need to cover mine like you did to get some of it back, but I am sure with the larger 850 tires it would not be much. I agree with you much more stable, the stock are pretty narrow.
