That was my Pop driving the Chevelle. He doubled Ernie in Convoy, and set a car jump record (at that time), but it wasn't planned that way. He was supposed to end up in the barn, but ended up going 160+ feet w/o any suspension modifications, etc. Amazing her survived this gag. ua-cam.com/video/moXAGBIYu4I/v-deo.html
Dan Herron , I watched the making of that stunt , it was spectacular , and then when Ernest Borgnine sits up in the car it looks as if was really driving , I seen this when it first came out and I still have it on VCR tape , I break it out now and then to watch it , also have Jaws , Dirty Mary Crazy Larry , and many others , real people doing real stunts , enjoy it immensely , thanks
After watching this movie as a six year old I could not stop buildning Mack trucks and M-60 machine guns out of LEGO. It shaped me into the man I am today :D
Same but with smokey and the bandit even reanacted the movie whilst it was playing with my legos a few hundred times damaging the cd i think ive had over 5 different dvd copies of smokey and the bandit doing that
So what would happen if Convoy, Smokey & the Bandit, and The Dukes of Hazzard ever did some sort of ultimate crossover?....... Well, d***! Now that i say that out loud I actually want to see it! XD
Yep. In GI60S, the actor cornered too tight and clipped the bumper of the Cadillac, spun out, hit the pole, and that was it. They had to continue the scene weeks later.
1:39 Turned so hard the Suspension started jumping! (also Surprised that the Diamond T's were that "nimble" always figured them to be slow lumbering beasts more than anything)
That particular Mack truck series was one the most rugged trucks out there for over a decade the new Macks look a lot like those old 70s Macks I love em plus having Volvo or Cummins power plants and transmissions well Allison and Eaton depending on what you buy but there still solid trucks

A Classic movie from 1978 Kris Kristofferson, Ernest Borgnine and Burt young to Ali McGraw did alright in this .Love the Trucks being the stars in this ❤️
I know canonically the car in question is a '71 Chevelle, which is evident at the beginning of the chase, however if you skip to 4:27 the turn siginals change to one piece blinkers, which means the actual jump/crash car was a '72. Watched this movie a million times and just now noticed this
Jesse Garcia sr nah a 70 would better.that car looked like a joke not deserving of the chevelle name. I would pull the front clip off to get rid of that brain fart the designers was thinking
"Convoy" looks like a "Smokey And The Bandit" ripoff, but it has its own personality and, despite being inebriated, Sam Peckinpah. This was his biggest hit, but his unprofessionalism blacklisted him, until he second-unit work on "Jinxed", and full work on "The Osterman Weekend" and two Julian Lennon music videos, before his passing.

I don't miss those split rims back then I don't even like the R&R wheels with the wedges that hold them on you still see here and there today on dumptrucks but I still drive over the road and Volvo and Mack are my favorite trucks the KW T680 still catches my eye though
In a Kenworth pullin logs......in a Volvo/white waiting on a tow truck.....in freightliner developing hemroids. In a western star insisting I'm better than a Peterbilt....in the hospital clinging to life after driving team with a SWIFT driver.
As with most 70,s films Convoy wasn't any different as to vehicles. The film companies cobbled and bodged cars, trucks ect back together using parts from different era,s so the rear end might have been a 71 but the front end a 72 it's known as economy to do so. Thus the vehicle changes through out the scenes.
The roll over was a legit accident. They wanted to re film the scene apparently but the repair shop they were using during the filming wasn't allowed to work on Brockway trucks, so they wrote the accident into the script.
2:25 things you can only dream to do... Having a Chevelle and makin' a badass flyby with open pipes!
What´s stopping you ? Buy your dream car and make it happen.
I could watch that girl getting out of the Chevelle a thousand times and never get tired of it.

Mack - the Greatest Name in Trucks ... great movie. Greetings from south Germany
4:27 No CGI, that Stunt was real.
And the driver flew that car way further than was intended. Amazingly, he not only survived, but his bones were intact too.
i remember this one classic sometimes i wish the roads were like this still
Little fun fact: The truck that flipped in the intersection, was not actually planned, but a legitimate accident.
*** Sgt WarDaddy98 *** I would've like to seen what the movie could've been like without that accident.
That is very true!
Was that car crahing into a billvoard a real 1 too :3
Airborne Artillery no ofc not.
*** Sgt WarDaddy98 ***
0:58 legend has it that those kids are still waiting for Dirty Lyle
Ha ha
Just like the car strippers in “Smokey and the Bandit” who are still laying their hands on the car for Buford T. Justice.
The chickens free falling from the barn: fave moment as a kid. :-)

The white Brockway rollin over was a legit accident that they left in the film, lol.
Chad Kimmel did the same thing in the original gone in 60 seconds when the mustang spun out and hit the pole on the freeway
Yep. In GI60S, the actor cornered too tight and clipped the bumper of the Cadillac, spun out, hit the pole, and that was it. They had to continue the scene weeks later.

Fucking classic. My dad practically made me watch this, fueled my love for cars and trucks if anything 😂
The 70s was the real deal back when stunts was real
I always liked how his drives bounce off the ground at 1:40.
Same! There is a little sound effect accompanying that scene if you listen carefully, like a drum roll kind of.
Has to be a locking axle engaged which caused it to hop..... Bad on drive lines.
One of my favorite movies as a kid along with Christine, Amityvile Horror, and The Car.
loved that scene, so funny. he really totalled that chevelle.
ooooo doing the movie Convoy Now Good Old Classic One of my fav truckin Movies

Cadynce Gamer I always suspected that. the way everyone comes running. love the movie.
Yeah, the very right rear tire of the trailer blew out, lopsided the load while cornering, and gravity did the rest.
That was the only truck that was actually loaded trien to make the turn according to movie critics.
@@jamescarter1500 That makes sense, this is the only truck I remember having a flatbed and you can see the load on it.

Anyone else notice how it's a 71 chevelle but the car that gets destroyed is a 72
Yeah wtf
This car in this movie was the reason for me to buy a muscle car . But it has become a 68er Camaro. Not so bad in Germany.
It's odd seeing Paulie from Rocky as a truck driver.
Burt Young. I knew it was him
Door of the truck in the movie says his company is "Paulie Hauling"
Lol, Ernest Borgnine!!! One of Hollyweirds best actors.. He reminds me so much of Jackie Gleason in Smokie and the Bandit..

I believe they started putting it into production cars in the early 50's but it was invented long before that even.
According to sources power steering for all cars came within the late 80s ,
I would like to see the movie to this video.
