I use Keynote and Screenflow to create the videos. If you google "educational screencast" you should find a walkthrough I made that details my method. Thanks for watching.
Unfortunately my job as a science teacher makes it difficult to attend conferences or put on PD during the school year. I have a limited number of personal days during the year and I try to spend most of them with family. Hopefully the virtual version of me will suffice.
Have you had any experience with any foreign teachers of English as a Second Language implementing all this in interdisciplinary projects? (that is, teaching English through experiments such as the black balls or the ink letters in the dish with water?)
Lol -okay so I did laugh super loud when he said "basically 400 pages"... I love these videos and another great resource is the Bozeman site. Thanks for making this stuff! :)
Hi Paul, So glad you love the NGSS and Framework too! And thanks for making a nice distinction between what will be covered in the Next Generation Science Standards and the Common Core State Standards. Very important.
I would love if you made a pass the CSET playlist for biology and chemistry. I am studying for the chemistry one right now and it is hard to find study material.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and understanding with everyone. Your videos have been extremely helpful to me in my own growth and for my students. I teach middle school, 8th grade science. and your videos are on my go to list. Thank you much
Wow, great Job Mr. Andersen, thank you for doing this, I am not an educator but volunteer my time in trying to get kids, inlcuding my own, inspired in all things related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics). I just started the process of trying to understand the NGSS and apply its concepts at home when conducting experiments with my children ages 7,8 & 8. Your videos will help out tremendously and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of them. Many thanks from a parent and fellow human being.
Paul your videos are very clear and makes understanding them much easier. I've gone to several workshops on NGSS and came out a little confused in the end. I've only seen 3 of the videos so far, and intend to watch them all. NYS wants feedback (a survey) so they can make final recommendations to the board. I think will help me a lot to complete the survey. Thank you.
Paul: great video series. I admire the time, effort, and energy that you put into this project. I especially like how they are in bite-size chunks for teachers. One point of clarification: the Framework actually only has 13 disciplinary core ideas. The 44 ideas that you've identified in the series are actually "component ideas" of the the 13 core ideas...just trying to make sure there is consistency in language...
Very fascinating endeavor Paul. So many questions pop up into my head as a teacher with this video and the standards in general. I'm interested in how you're going to approach some of the "standards of practice" that are a little bit more abstract and less concrete to assess. Look forward to collaborating over time on these concepts.
Another important feature of the crosscutting concepts is that they are transferable outside of science as well. E.g. Cause and Effect is clearly a concept that is not restricted to science.
How do you see NGSS changing the order of classes or even the kind of classes required for HS graduation? I really feel like NGSS will make it easier to move towards a skills competency-based grading system versus the traditional A, B, C, etc.
I am a 6th grade Science teacher in CA and we currently have a whole unit just on heat transfer: conduction, convection, radiation. I know these concepts are incorporated into bigger ideas in the NGSS, but wonder which topic these would fall under? I can't seem to really pinpoint it after reading over all the standards.
Hello good day! I'am a student from Philippines and we are studying about the design of science curriculum in US. I have some questions if you don't mind? first what are the benefits it can offer to your country? and what are its advantages with comparison to the previous science curriculum also, why do the government need to change the curriculum Thank You very much I'am hopping for your response
It is so exciting that Math and Science standards in US will will have everything organized properly at last! And it is great that both will teach modeling and practices :-) Are they going to assess Science also?
Did you find what you were looking for? If you want more information about the NGSS Standards you can simply Google it. They have a website where you look up the Standards by Disciplinary Core Idea (Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science). The website has the NGSS curriculum documents, and they are NOT user friendly, but science teachers are basically forced to use them. They would help you understand the guide your teachers work from which might be helpful. If you want an actual textbook to read and study from, I'd suggest checking with a local library or school, or order them online.
Paul: A long time ago I was authorized by Nasa in order to translate to spanish the programme "Toys in Space". Do you think there might be interest in order to do the same with this GRATE SERIES in order to increase the potencial users. I have a MSc in Nucealr Energy at MIT (81). Sincerely yours, Eduardo Testart
Thanks Paul for your well-designed and publicly available content. I'd like to one day make content like yours for similar purposes, which is why I'd like to know what presentation application you're using (PPT, Prezi?) and what kind of handwriting hardware you're using to create your videos. Thanks in advance.
this system of education is just arrival of of our advance in field of science and can be the trump card in field of outerspace research as it needed great vitualisation power and great curiosity to learn and explore that field and explore our extention living. if this sytem of eduacation given in all parts of world it could result in hyperjump in our research . WE ARE WITH YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT IT
our school has the kids/ parents fufill these standards. As a parent these standards are difficult to understand and translate into lessons for children.
DON'T BELIVE THIS PEOPLE!: The gigs up!, we all know you dropped the COMMON CORE NAME for this new one! (People go UA-cam: Arkansas mother obliterates common core in 4 mins) because they got such of a negative response with common core they change the name too this, BUT IT'S THE SAME THING! (Now go watch that video I mentioned)
You have got to be kidding me. Common Core and NGSS are related but different and they have both been "real" all along. The idea that the NGSS is just a re-branded Common Core, trying to hide from your 'incisive analysis' is typical of the nationwide idiotic response to these essentially commonsense Standards. BTW, of course you like "Arkansas mother," because it only takes 4 minutes to watch and it says what you already believe.
The "gig" this threatens most is the money funneled from federal tax dollars to people willing to fill your child with ignorance. Some of the smartest and richest minds on the planet feed money to blind faith for a reason, could we call that terrorism or bullying? I don't understand, but I am trying. Someone funds those madrasas as easy as they fund the extremists here on our soil.

Great Anderson. I am a lead inspector and auditor of schools. All your videos provide clear insight into a variety of science concpets.
Lol -okay so I did laugh super loud when he said "basically 400 pages"... I love these videos and another great resource is the Bozeman site. Thanks for making this stuff! :)
Thank you for your leadership in this area!

+Mike Cardenas Me too!
Paul, it is great that you are doing this!
I am an aspiring science teacher in a credentialing program now. This is great, thanks!
Nice catch. You are completely correct.
Yes Paul, I found this to be very helpful. The NGSS makes some sense to me now.. It also filled in a lot of gaps in my understanding of science.

Thanks Paul. Very helpful. I will share with my colleagues.
Hi Paul. Your series is helpful for us teachers! So we are moving away from the ¨Scientific Method¨ and using the 8 practices instead?
hi, how can I download natural scıence standards for pre school?
Gr8 service indeed! Godspeed!!
Are there any videos about hormones in plants , on this channel ? :)

Good idea ! Nice educational concepts. Science teachers, esp curriculum planners should learn about these principles.
Great video as always!!! thanks!!!!
thank you so much for doing this! it's a huge help
Hi Paul, Thanks for posting this valuable resource. Are you available to provide PD to teachers?
It is so exciting that Math and Science standards in US will will have everything organized properly at last! And it is great that both will teach modeling and practices :-) Are they going to assess Science also?
Can't wait!!
Hello, where can I download the book of biology, chemistry and physics? I’m 10th Grade.
Please tell me I need them very much.

did they change NGSS since this video was made? I don't see LS1 D for high school in the standards?
Daniel J Bacher there isn’t one for HS ... the assumption is that it was covered to completion in elementary and MS

60 videos O.o That's a lot!
Looking forward to it though.

You can't even spell "believe".
also, you wrote "too" instead of "to". Are those Arkansas standards you're following?
Doh!!!

I watch the video and children do not have the ability to think abstractly like adults that's why they do things that way
