He used to teach chemistry at my school and he was known as a bit crazy. He used to explode helium balloons multiple times a year. We'd be sitting in a lesso , hear a loud bang and everyone knew it was Szydlo. Not sure if he still teaches there but he was definitely one of the most loved teachers. He used to call everyone "old boy". He wasn't actually the best teacher but it's not hard to see why, he was so excited by what he was teaching he often strayed from the syllabus.

Side note: I had the same thought just before reading your comment. It would be amazing having teachers like him, and really learning in friendly and exciting ways. It’s a shame our education systems do not aim to make us interested in learning, but to the exact opposite thing.

That's the difference between a wise teacher and a boring old fart. I got a 49% in chemistry that year... only to get a 89% on my final school year, thanks to a woman chemist teacher who was extraordinary, kind, funny and very knowledgeable.

Without a really well equipped lab no principal would allow an open flame on the scale of burning metal/oxidizer mix that are flash powders, and igniting explosive or even flammable gasses in a balloon.his (and mine) favourite part of the show would not be allowed at most schools. Of all the MANY TED TALKS I have watched this British gentleman chemist has ABSOLUTELY fascinated me not only with his chemistry demonstrations but with his high energy output, his ability to multitask, his mannerisms, Brit vernacular, and all I was able to absorb in less than 16 minutes. Plus the topic was not that of dealing with death, disease, violence or anything negative.
I want to get a quart of liquid nitrogen. Shouldn't be too difficult as it's not a controlled substance, doesn't seem to be a component of anything illegal or immoral. First use would be re: flash freezing perishable food. Then on to replicating one or two things done with this OUTSTANDING video using safety glasses, gloves and a friend to video the endeavour.

I had a math prof for master's stats who helped me understand that it all applied to the real world. I got an A even though I had believed that I was not good at math.
I now believe that our very finest teachers should be teaching at earlier stages than university. At least he straight to the point of teaching. Everything his teach is important. Unlike my lecturer, sometime they mention something that i dont need to know for 3 hour class :(

Because then he'd have to do actual chemistry rather than talking about chemistry in general and barely explain anything

That guy was easily the most entertaining scientist I've ever seen... I could watch him in mad shambles over the reaction of baking soda and vinegar for all I care, that was amazing lol

Ah, Andrew :D love the guy. A couple years ago, when he visited my uni I was initially angry, that despite having a chemistry showman doing a PhD in this facility they invited someone else. But it was worth seeing him. And now - he has just expanded my chemistry shows with one trick :D
    Thank You again Andrew :D

It's people like this man who got me _really_ into chemistry when I was younger. It's one of my very favorite subjects of study now. Bless these people for making learning so fun.

If I had a chemistry teacher like him, I wouldn’t have struggled with medicinal chemistry during college!
    A perfect teacher!!!
    Enthusiastic
    Energetic
    Motivational
    And above all hilarious!
