1976, playing guitar, between gigs in a goofball disco/cover band, my keyboard player calls me up and says "hey, swing by, I got Mike Clark and Paul Jackson coming over to jam later". I'm like "get the hell outta here", I had just latched onto Thrust and M & P were my world favorite musicians. Well, we played a few times over the next couple of weeks, Paul didn't even own a bass, it was lucky I had one. It took about a month to get it back from him, LOL. Those jams were certainly the peak of my musical career. Those two were amazing, they could make any combination of notes, even dropping his sticks, into a funk beat. Mike is and was exactly as you see him in this i'view.
Mike Clark blew my mind on Head Hunters. Really changed my trajectory on playing drums. I actually pulled more towards funk, jazz fusion with a tint of rock background. Clark's playing changed the way I approach the drum kit. He's a world class drummer in my humble opinion.
Legend in the house! His album Indigo Blue Live at the Iridium is such an amazing recording! Also the recording he did with Paul Jackson " The Funk Stops Here " is incredible! HUGE Japanese Jazz fan too and was cool to hear him mention Trumpeter Shunzo Ohno! Another great discussion!
