It's 2024. Get another mic
Is that the most positive thing you can say, that`s what i had and made the best of it.
🤜🏽💥🤛🏽‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Thank God you cleaned up Mike,LIFE is beautiful ❤
Beautiful to see you present this tribute to my/our hero and your friend Jaco. Many thanks 🙏🏼 🪷☮️💜
One of the greats , Carmen Lundy
Got the Funk book in my studio....mike is the best!!
Brilliant musician. However, when you hear all the names of the musicians mentioned and on other platforms in jazz, there are little or no bc women mentioned because there are so few in this field of expression. If a few sneak through the glass ceiling they usually sing and are there as a decoration. That has been the on going issue in jazz.
Most musicians just shouldn't interview other musicians.. it seems you weren't getting the message at the beginning of the interview when he politely mention he wasn't trying to get caught up in a downbeat style fantasy interview, he was there to talk about his academy..
Ciao Michele, sono italiano,ti ho visto a Forlì, adoro le tue composizioni,in particolare Befor you go,ogni volta che la suono o la ascolto piango,ti voglio bene, sei un grande
🎼👏🎼
Love me some Alex Acuna’
god Alex.. so cool. such a friggin great percussionist drummer , Joe tells the same story
thanks for posting ,its so cool to hear you guys , and giving your time for this , I appreciate it...:) wow ....so patient thanks
you hear all kinds stuff about people.. but I so admire John McLaughlin ..all these guys Jeff of course..
Thanks for ABSOLUTELY NOT answering his question about WHO, SPECIFICALLY, you liked or what young drummers you think sound good that you heard either consciously or inadvertently. Preston, HUGE kudos to you for asking Weckl about Tony Williams. It's about time, at least in an online interview, that someone directly asked him about his thoughts of Tony. Here's one that Weckl conveniently didn't mention; during the time period he mentions here; mid-late 80's maybe into early 90's, Tony and Weckl were either on the same bill performing or doing clinics etc; Weckl was a cocky late 20's early 30's something, and he was cocky to Tony Williams during one of these events. The best thing in the world Weckl could and should have done was to be influenced WAY MORE by Tony, and absorbed far more of Tony's language into his own playing....
Thanks sir for your nice message.
1976, playing guitar, between gigs in a goofball disco/cover band, my keyboard player calls me up and says "hey, swing by, I got Mike Clark and Paul Jackson coming over to jam later". I'm like "get the hell outta here", I had just latched onto Thrust and M & P were my world favorite musicians. Well, we played a few times over the next couple of weeks, Paul didn't even own a bass, it was lucky I had one. It took about a month to get it back from him, LOL. Those jams were certainly the peak of my musical career. Those two were amazing, they could make any combination of notes, even dropping his sticks, into a funk beat. Mike is and was exactly as you see him in this i'view.
Mike, You're a Warm, Sweet person in addition to your being one of the most Bad Ass guitar players on Earth. I'm sorry that you had the accident. We only have one choice. To Keep On KEEPIN' On ‼️
Loved the first talk by Thelonius! So brilliant to hear him , he is jazz royalty. And always loved his drumming and his Jazz Funk TS Monk band.
might be the best Mike Clark interview ive ever seen . thanks :)
Thank you so much
Steve should write a book about Jaco ❤
Absolutely the best of all time!
As a fan, as a human, I’m deeply grateful to John for his honest yet gracious appraisal of what had to have been difficult situations with Jaco. He was a near-magical talent harshly impacted by bipolar illness which was not known to most. Many witnessed the mania half of the illness, very few the depression. It was something we shared, and privately helped each other with. The “world’s greatest” was actually a gag to him, a nerve settler. I don’t know anyone who didn’t hear it once. So, thank you, John.
Like number 234✌️
man i'm a fan of mike stern ! since the first time i saw him in geneva at the new morning ! he walk just beside me ! man hes tall lol ! my favorite fusion jazz player ! a great composer and guitarist !
Thank you so much for posting this! I was born in the early 70s and it sucks to have missed all of these guys during their early years. I would have loooooooooved to see Weather Report during the Jaco years. Just listening to their stories though is so entertaining.
Hahaha …. Alex Acuna had such funny stories … It’s so very special to hear these stories
JACO was very religious … in spite of his wild sides …
It’s so very interesting to me hearing Alex Acuna talking about JACO 🤗🙏🏽 Hahaha ..: “Ah Ha …. I saw You … practicing reading those Cello Books …” 🤗🙏🏽
You forget all the African and latino drummers !!! Berroa , berrios , sanabria etc ,,
What a magical interview, John so much more then just another great Guitarist
Love you Mike
1:06:50 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was so great. What an incredible interview. Thank you for sharing!
LIKE! LEARNING! The E, W and FFanatic!
Someone on this panel is unnecessarily weirdly cantankerous.
Avery Sharpe mentions Stanley Clarke. I know Jaco was phenomenal and brilliant, but I'm going to be tremendously honest, because I've seen both Jaco and Stanley live in the 70''s and 80's peek. In my personal opinion there's no comparison to Stanley Clarke's improvising on electric bass. Jaco wasn't a great improviser compared to what I've heard Stanley do especially live. I understand Jaco had a bigger than life personality and energy that's great to talk about.
I think when musicians are at that level, debates about "who is better" become just trivial and almost meaningless and more about what your musical tastes are.
I would have to honestly say. Electric Jaco is the better improviser. Acoustic then Stan is the man. I wish there were some recording of Jaco on upright.
Great Mike 🎸
That first Strata-East Music, Inc. album is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for this interview.
Jacó Pastorius....... Músico gênio, eterno!!!
This is amazing! Thank you. Can you please do a larry young tribute?? There is so little information on him. I think his children are still alive.
Glad you enjoyed the program. I would love to do a show on Larry Young. I`m friends with Larry`s son.
@jazztalk3482 omg! Thank you for replying. A sit down with him would be amazing! And maybe some stories from people who played with him. I just found your channel and am binging all the episodes. Random question, I am trying to find the paper 'enemy drums' that Mr. Joe Chambers spoke about, but I can't find it anywhere. Do you know what he was referencing? Thank you for your amazing work on the channel!
Do you have a copy of the larry young funeral that was broadcast on TV? I've searched everywhere!
Sorry to hear Jaco and Duffy were at odds
It seems as though Jaco had a lot of “friends”...where were they in the last months of his life when he was on the clear path of self destruction?
Miss Joey sooooooo much!!!!! Gone to soon!
Yes it was a shock, i managed to see and talk to him after our interview a couple months before his death.
Jaco4ever. Thank you Mike for your comments on Jaco. Yeah! Jaco was a great musician and composer. I'm so happy you are still here making great music. 🙏
👍👍👍👍
Brother, I don't like it when people of European ancestry call EW&F the black Beatles...as far as overall musical talent/musicianship. the Beatles were not on EW&F level. not by a LONG mile.
❤❤
Phenomenal interview! I love his music and he seems like a great human being!
Thanks so much, it was a joy to interview him.
👍🙂❤️Love this dude!!! Whata player, too!
Big stanley
