wtf is wrong with this crowd? I'd be jumping up and down like a buffoon! The riff to the Fly is exhilarating but that Edge Solo is orgasmic! Best thing he has ever done.

I was there. Best concert of my life. My favorite band of all time playing at my favorite venue of all time. Simply perfect. No other band even begins to compare to seeing U2 live.

I say this to all U2 songs. This is “one” of U2’s best !!! Even better in concert !!! U2 is so alive in this song. The Edge gets good workout playing guitar to this song.

I was there in front of the stage. The floor crowd was pretty good. The city of Lansing said the show had to be over by 10:00pm and since it was June 30th, it doesn't get dark in Michigan until 9:30. It was a good show.
Best U2 Song ever: a superb riff and a extraordinary songconstruction. The Crowd was drugged and dazed: maybe Edge's solo (his absolutely best solo) had the force to paralyze the audience...

its U2's best ever song.... not just becuase of what it was, what it sounded and looked like at the time but what it came from... just think back... we'd had the Joshua Tree, world wide mega success, then the excellent Rattle and Hum (though the band still don't think so)... then silence... 'we need to go away and dream it all up again...'
Then they come back with this.... THIS...!... After breaking one song into two at Hansa Studios...(how brave was that?) giving us Ultraviolet and ... THE FLY... a full on, sonic attack on yer senses... full on or go home. When it would have been so easy to just churn out Joshua Tree type stuff ...'forever'
It was a BIG risk, I even think they could have brought The Fly out under a fake name it was so far from their previous work (certainly later with Lemon)..
Many people in life hit a high, and many milk it whilst it lasts... to have the guts to move on, move forward, explore, dare to take a risk and be scared....
Its not only a great song in their armor of great songs... it's no.1 for me for that reason...
Very well said and I agree 100%! Unfortunately, the large majority of fans don't understand the significance of The Fly. The music video is cool as well...Not to mention it brought out Bono's Fly Character that pushed the Zoo TV tour to the level of Epic and well before it's time. We are here in 2017, and ZooTV would still look cutting edge!
It’s not underrated , it went straight to no 1 in 1991 knocking off a song that had been there for 5 months, when music was music

11 years ago today! Hard to believe! These guys need to get back on tour.
For my money this is their best song in a lot of different ways/areas. The lyrics are brilliant. His use of metaphor/analogy/hyperbole is absolutely epic. The bass on the song is Adam at his very best. Edge is.. well.. Edge. True masterpiece. What they were trying to achieve with this album coming off of Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum, peaked with this track. As much as One(or Mysterious Ways) is probably the most popular/well known song on Achtung Baby, and So Cruel may be the best melody they’ve ever created on any album, The Fly to me is U2 at their most U2est.
I never get sick of this song, one of their best. Underated song, an epic rock song to get you psyched!!

However, look at the light. Fly is a dark song that shold be have it´s appaearance in the dark... The more better it works as a rock thing outside the dark.

Yeah. I feel that the reason people arent jumping up and down and moving is they just are not comfortable yet. It feels more awkward to jump in a lot of concerts just a song or too in, especially if its still light out.

What a dead crowd. I'm from Michigan and saw U2 at Heinz Field for their Joshua Tree tour -- 30th anniversary and I had an effing blast.
No alcohol @ Spartan stadium.
After several watching this musically really finest tune... as U2.. I would NEVER ever play East Lansing and their smartphone junkies again for the next 30 years. If so, than just for fun itself.

Obviously you don't have a clue what you're talking about. There's a ton of daylight during that time of the year. Much of that concert occurred at night as well. I know....I was there.
