Proud to be Irish U2 gave hope to us young people in the 1980 when the country was on its knees. We all owe U2 a great gratitude. Thanks for everything you done for and the world

it must be such a blessing for 4 friends to start a band at a young age, remain friends their entire lives, and produce the most magical music together. I can't even imagine the bond they must have.
Yes - I am so glad they haven’t had petty fallings out and public splits like many others. Funny how I was only thinking this the other day. They have been my musical core since I was 15 with ‘war’ and have been part of my whole life and now I’m in my 50’s. What joy they have given and what a life they have lived.
I read something a while ago when they finish a tour they go off and do there own and not talk to each other for months which is how they work so well together
This has to be the most beautifully tragic song ever. Those heartbreaking lyrics and the amazing instrumentals. I can’t even begin to explain the emotions I feel when i hear this. A fucking Masterpiece.
The soundtrack of my life… since I was a teenager in the 80’s. Here I am… 52 years old, still crying at this song. So emotional. This song has been one of my most cherished experiences for 40 years!
I first heard this song in 1987, when I was a fifteen-year-old schoolboy. I was living at that time in a provincial Soviet village behind the Iron Curtain, and only Saint Santa knows how the cassette with U2 songs got into my remote place. It was this song that settled in my heart from the first chords and it seems like it will forever. I would like to wish everyone reading my comment a Happy New Year! May the new year bring less evil and more good. Peaceful skies above everyone. U2, thank you for this song! Thank you for the 36 years that I lived with your music.❤ Happy New Year! 02:56 January 1, 2024. Tien Shan mountains, height 3500 m above sea level.🎉🎉
@@paddydalton2373 You are right, my friend. UA-cam and the Internet have erased the boundaries between people from different countries. This is a privilege that previous generations were deprived of. It was very nice to wake up and read your reply from Ireland. Thank you for the Happy New Year wishes. I have always wanted to visit your emerald isle, wander through the ancient streets of Dublin, visit cathedrals and churches. And of course, get drunk to your heart's content with dark beer at Temple Bar. Slainte!!!🍻🥂🎄
U2 is such an excellent and one of greatest bands ever! I have been to wow, 95 of their concerts all over the world, beginning in the 1980's. The stadium tours are the best!! Thank you U2!!
I`m in magic. Because of bono`s raw voice &charisma and the edge`s magical guitar sound, adam`s stable bass performance and larry`s the powerful & rhythmical beat of the drum.
Bono’s vocal is just so achingly beautiful. Like all great albums ‘the Joshua tree’ still sound so fresh after all these years. A staggering piece of work and for me they’ve never got close to it since.
no screaming fans, no fancy lights, no big stadium- just an old fashioned, old time rock roll band playing with beautiful grace, passion and compassion.
But if they want it, they can fill a stadium giving a tremendous performance with all the ligths an a incredible sound!! They are both things. The magnificent band with the greatest shows I've ever seen. And this one. The simple, beautifull, organic and closely group of friends who play together since 30 years ago...
U2, há vinte cinco anos atrás me inspirei no baixista Adam clayton pra aprender a tocar contra baixo e essa música foi a primeira que aprendi a tocar.U2 sempre! os caras são fantásticos!! Alguém curtindo junho 2020👍
Brilliant aren't they? And I don't think they get the recognition they truly deserve, particularly in the songwriting department. Their work is just so prolific.....more hits than the Beatles too who i loved until U2 came along!)
Bono has stated that he has a close relationship with God. He’s just a human being, a man from Ireland. Because he has a relationship with God the Father, he has the ability to put forth the purest form of LOVE. God’s LOVE for us. When we listen...to Bono’s voice & U2’s music the soundwaves travel through our ears and straight into our brain, synapses, and it becomes part of us. Feels good to get pure LOVE straight from the tap (the source) I’ve never met U2 personally but have been a lifelong fan, I’m only 41. Seen them live 5 times. They are a part of my life as I know it, part of me. 😊
A sign of greatness in one's craft is the ability to create something "new", not copied or slightly tweaked. Something "unique" and something so "recognizable" it's never "mistaken" for anyone else but you. The Edge did this. I remember hearing some of these songs for the first time and saying to my buddies "wow. This is incredible. So unique. So freaking beautiful. So haunting." To this day I still love The Edges unique sound the best.
This is the song I turn to whenever life gets hard. Such raw emotion in the music, and I love Bono's voice in this performance. You can hear all his emotions with every line, it is amazing!
I have depression and only your songs can keep me normal. Thank you for being there because thanks to you I have the strength to get up every day and try to live
May God bless you and cure you of your depression. I've lived with it for the past 65 years. I go in and out of it. Half the time I awake I want to die, but I make it through the day. Don't be like me take care of your depression NOW. It can be done. Joe
I come back to this live version. This song may be a simple chord progression. But with that rumbling base, unique percussion, beautiful yet mysterious guitar, great vocals and melody it’s an absolute masterpiece.
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤
Rarely comment on youtube. I'm an Irish boy, my grandma was from the North Side of Dublin just like U2. I grew up in a very troubled part of Belfast. U2 helped me love being Irish again, when all I could feel around me was violence and hate. I studied in Manchester, so to hear Joy Division mixed in with this, makes me keep watching it over and over. They're so emotional. Every part of this, the guitar, the bass, the drums, the singing, the words, the emphasis on them ... it's intoxicating :)
The way the song builds back up at 3:40, it makes me think of beautiful things, places and loved ones flashing quickly as time flies by. Life is so short. Make the best out of it peeps.
It’s performances like these where each of them excel in their field. Bono’s vocals are fantastic, Edge’s guitar is biblical, Larry’s drums are on point and Adam’s bass is just perfect.
I've watching and listening U2 for more than 30 years. They still outstanding. Love this band and miss so much the live shows in my country. Greetings from Brazil.
It's quite incredible that over 25 years after they originally wrote this song, they have managed to perform a completely new & brilliant version of what was already an amazing song. Fair play to them. U2 are the gr8est band of all time. U2 forever.
This is one of the best songs ever, everything is great on it the beating drums, the subliminal bassline, the outer space guitar and the heartbreaking vocals, every little piece shines by itself the perfect amount of time, perfect balance. Love this song.
March 1987 I walked into my local pub and my best mate said “have you heard U2’s new release”. He put it on the duke box (remember those) my mind was blown away, the song still gives my goosebumps 30 or so years later.
Incredible tune, 30 years old but has gotten better with time. The way it builds and builds, the emotion Bono puts into his singing, the beautiful guitar playing The Edge does is amazing and the orchestra really gives the song a special touch as well.
É essa música que escuto todas as manhãs no carro quando vou trabalhar. O pessoal do estacionamento já até conhece quando estou chegando devido à mesma música e bem alta 😂. U2 é maravilhoso!
True, but it's still a little bittersweet because it feels like they were a band that avoided the march of time for longer than most of their peers, but it all seems to have really caught up with them in the last couple years. That's not a knock, just an observation.
Robert Smith of the Cure celebrated 40 years in the band this year, is 59 and sounds the same now as he did at his peak in the 80's. But one thing I will say about Bono - dude still gives me chills when he sings. His voice has aged, but his passion remains. And the band is tight.
Say what you want about the band, but this is one of the most timeless songs. It transcends genre, era, culture, race, politics, nation. I’m convinced if this songs were released today it would hit the top of the charts. You can’t say that about most classics.
No matter how many thousands of times I have listened to this song, the intro always gives me goose bumps... I meant as a compliment on the power of the song. Viva U2!
4 men together since the eighties...no replacements....tight group. We knew they were special in the 80's. The legacy builds every year. Truly icons in music. This version brought me to tears. You can only have this soul and passion if you have lived it.
I was just thinking to write that kind of comment. My would sound like that. Not any single band in planet is on scene over 35 years. Songs are legendary and they simply can´t die. We all know some singers are one night star, and then they disappear. Not U2 and even our kids are growing up with them. Special with With or without you, One love, Where the streets have no name, etc. All these songs gives us so many personal memories too, not only as U2´s songs.

Nas terras de sua majestade nasceram grandes bandas. Queen, U2, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Beatles, The Who, Oasis….um berçário de grandes bandas.
A fairly big statement. I have to disagree, not only with your statement itself, but with the entire notion that such a statement could be said about any song.
One of the best songs ever. Makes me feel so nostalgic. Crazy how time flies to be fair, reminds me of my childhood driving to the Kruger with the windows down and this blasting through the speakers as I woke up from a nap. “Are we there yet?” Now it’s years later and everything has changed. But one thing stays the same, life is always a gift.
This song is me and alcohol’s stronghold over me. So often I give myself away. My body is bruised and I’ve nothing to win and have nothing else to lose. To all those struggling with addiction, I send my love.
Amanda.I know exactly how u feel, you like me and thousands of ppl around the world fighting different addictions (mine drugs) do have something to win and loose.Hopefully we will win and therefore we have not lost.Good luck we all still have Dignity 🇮🇪😑
See the stone set in your eyes See the thorn twist in your side I'll wait for you Sleight of hand and twist of fate On a bed of nails she makes me wait And I wait, without you With or without you With or without you Through the storm we reach the shore You give it all but I want more And I'm waiting for you With or without you With or without you I can't live With or without you And you give yourself away And you give yourself away And you give And you give And you give yourself away My hands are tied My body bruised, she's got me with Nothing to win and Nothing left to lose And you give yourself away And you give yourself away And you give And you give And you give yourself away With or without you With or without you I can't live With or without you Oh With or without you With or without you I can't live With or without you With or without you
Adam Clayton doesn’t get enough credit for his part in this song. The bass is sensational. In fact one could say the four performers are at the height of their talents here.
@@boysymc Most famous riffs are quite easy to play..the ingenuity is in creating them for a specific tune that adds to the magic of that tune..this, i.e. creativity, is what sets the greats apart from the rest...the original poster is correct in saying the bass line is sensational
This is not just a song.. this is an emotion and the blend of all those wonderful memories.. U2 is not just a band its an emotion called love. Thank you U2.
@@nirmalyanarayanchakraborty5255 oh yeah phenomenal - especially the lyrics -prozac laced nonsense - does stupid wear his cowboy hat in this one? i like when he wears a cowboy hat. i remember at some point -80s i guess, he would wear some sort of fringed suede daniel boone jacket type of affair. that was funny!

Exactly. The melody adds to the melancholy and nostalgia as well.
Muito top curto essa música a anos e não me canso de ouvir quase todos os dias

This song is immortal, as is the band, one of the biggest and best of all times.

Unreal. The Joshua Tree represents the pinnacle of music and this track is all time. This live version is stunning.
I`m in magic.
Because of bono`s raw voice &charisma and the edge`s magical guitar sound, adam`s stable bass performance and larry`s the powerful & rhythmical beat of the drum.
The emotion in Bono's voice around 3 mins in. So powerful. Amazing performance!

Love will tear us apart. Ian Curtis lives on long after his untimely death. This song is sublime and The Edge is a genius …. Fact.
É muito Admirável o respeito e união dessa banda, desde 1976 os caras estão na ativa com a mesma formação, isso é simplesmente espetacular, e Bono é coisa de louco um espetáculo a voz do cara!!!

Has to be one of the most outstanding performances of this masterpiece - Bono’s voice at its best. Even better than the original
Bono’s vocal is just so achingly beautiful. Like all great albums ‘the Joshua tree’ still sound so fresh after all these years. A staggering piece of work and for me they’ve never got close to it since.
Certainly one of my all time favourite albums

no screaming fans, no fancy lights, no big stadium- just an old fashioned, old time rock roll band playing with beautiful grace, passion and compassion.
But if they want it, they can fill a stadium giving a tremendous performance with all the ligths an a incredible sound!!

This is one of the most uplifting and beautiful things on UA-cam. Kudos to Coldplay for connecting with ALL music lovers, hearing or not.
How after singing this 435,987 times, does he make it sound like the first time? Every time. U2 has managed to remain young while growing old.
Brilliant aren't they? And I don't think they get the recognition they truly deserve, particularly in the songwriting department. Their work is just so prolific.....more hits than the Beatles too who i loved until U2 came along!)
It’s the soul singing and not the body
Bono has stated that he has a close relationship with God. He’s just a human being, a man from Ireland. Because he has a relationship with God the Father, he has the ability to put forth the purest form of LOVE. God’s LOVE for us. When we listen...to Bono’s voice & U2’s music the soundwaves travel through our ears and straight into our brain, synapses, and it becomes part of us. Feels good to get pure LOVE straight from the tap (the source)
I’ve never met U2 personally but have been a lifelong fan, I’m only 41. Seen them live 5 times. They are a part of my life as I know it, part of me. 😊
What’s really amazing is that he makes it sound like the first time for the listener.
It sounds nothing like the original lol. He changed the cadence like he always does lately and its super annoying
Amazing version, stunning strings. They should make a orchestral live album.

Just like wine. Want Bono to hit that high notes? Go and play your CD. This is life, this is live. God bless U2.
It's one of the songs I turn to also. Fills my darkness with light and reminds me that there is love. Peace to you.

I come back to this live version. This song may be a simple chord progression. But with that rumbling base, unique percussion, beautiful yet mysterious guitar, great vocals and melody it’s an absolute masterpiece.
I aggree almost on every point, however the vocals on this version are far from its original lp version's soul and effect.

It’s performances like these where each of them excel in their field. Bono’s vocals are fantastic, Edge’s guitar is biblical, Larry’s drums are on point and Adam’s bass is just perfect.

I love your choice of words...
It instills wisdom and understanding in those who are inexperienced immature and speculating wrongly all the time ..

Nas terras de sua majestade nasceram grandes bandas. Queen, U2, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Beatles, The Who, Oasis….um berçário de grandes bandas.

Nossa, que mancada! Não sabe nada 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Até onde eu sei U2 nasceu na Irlanda né cara.
This is just the greatest song of all time
Period
@Tommaso: It’s a great one!!! It’s fun to learn on guitar & sing along. 🎸
Makes this grown man cry tears of sorrow and joy every time. Absolute masterpiece 👏 so fortunate to have been able to see at MSG.
A fairly big statement. I have to disagree, not only with your statement itself, but with the entire notion that such a statement could be said about any song.
@@knapton118 that's personal, just live your stupid ass life and carry on, i don't give a fuck about your opinion my friend

One of the greatest bands of all time. 😍👏👏
This song is me and alcohol’s stronghold over me. So often I give myself away. My body is bruised and I’ve nothing to win and have nothing else to lose. To all those struggling with addiction, I send my love.
Hang in there kid...
Hey how are you doing? You get stronger every day.
I love these song 💕🎸
Please take care of you my friend…
Amanda.I know exactly how u feel, you like me and thousands of ppl around the world fighting different addictions (mine drugs) do have something to win and loose.Hopefully we will win and therefore we have not lost.Good luck we all still have Dignity 🇮🇪😑
There are certain songs that will live forever and are a true masterpiece…This is one of them..❤️
See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I'll wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait, without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
Oh
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
With or without you
Nunca jamais haverá uma banda como está, músicas maravilhosas, eternas.
Adam Clayton doesn’t get enough credit for his part in this song. The bass is sensational.
In fact one could say the four performers are at the height of their talents here.
Just a nothing comment. One of the simplest bass lines to play
ZooTv, there you have the height of their career.
@@boysymc Most famous riffs are quite easy to play..the ingenuity is in creating them for a specific tune that adds to the magic of that tune..this, i.e. creativity, is what sets the greats apart from the rest...the original poster is correct in saying the bass line is sensational
@@boysymc hahaha literally my reaction. at least he didn't use a loop pedal though, that counts for something!
??
No
I don’t know if you felt the same but this song has a good feeling, my body gets goosebumps when I hear it ❤️👌🏾
U2 é de arrepiar o som dessa banda! Sensacional 👏👏👏👏👏!Mais alguém do Brasil?🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
