An extremely talented, un-famous artist. Blows my mind that he's not known on the world stage, but for those of us who know and appreciate him... he's touched our hearts in equal magnitude.
+Megan C I always feel like I am in a special club, and I get very excited if I meet another one of his fans. We are a rare breed but man do we have great taste in music! Glad to meet you!
So so true. A friend introduced me to Martin Sexton in 1999 and couldn't believe i had not already heard of such a talent, and so few had. Not that surprising for Australia though. Yeah i like that club to...the man gives me goosebumps regularly.
I'm good with that, Megan. The more famous they get the more shit the music seems to turn. I just look at it this way, they are famous to the ones that count and anyone is welcome in the group. LOL
A big reason is that Martin wants it that way. He has total control of his music. He has family and rarely tours beyond the New England and East Coast states. He knows that becoming a big star threatens what he values most.
Omg, yes. My memory isn't all that great, so he keeps going off my radar. But no artist makes me bawl my eyes out like Martin. And no one in my sphere knows him, so it is wonderful to read these comments.
Commenting years after this video was uploaded, but Martin Sexton is one of the best live performers I have ever seen in my life. He has such a natural way of filling up the room with his sound. Highly recommend checking him out!
Marty Sexton is a gift from the musical gods. no matter how many times i've seen him live, it's always different, and somehow always better than the time before.
I saw Martin in Indy about a year ago, and I have to say in all my years of watching guy and a guitar shows, nobody has ever moved me like Martin Sexton has. There is so much passion and soul behind his voice, he doesn't even seem to fit into this time period. I can't urge people enough to go and check him out. You will NOT be disappointed.
They are both phenomenal artists, Martin is the best live performer I have ever seen,he makes you feel the music the way he does. John Mayer is an amazing artist as well I really enjoy the Trio work, I'm waiting for them to team up for a tour
I have been listening to Martin Sexton since I was a sophomore in college in 1998, when he was still just a local Boston/Cambridge guy. I cant even explain how stoked I am that, finally, the rest of the world is discovering him. Thank you, internet. And thanks to you, Johnny McMayer.
I love him and will go to his concerts time and time again. The best performer I've ever seen, even next to seeing Sir Paul McCartney. Just amazing. His passion and emotion blows me away. I can't even put into words what this man conveys at his concerts. We always hear about their undying love for what they do. He really is the epitome of what every artist should aspire to be. Even if you think it's not your "thing" you should still go to a live performance!!
About 15 years ago I first saw Martin sing around a campfire at the Kerrwood Music Festival, and you can imagine how blown away I was!! Martin is one of the BEST artists out there!!! John Mayer you rock both in music and taste!
What I love about John is that he understands that what you DON'T play is just as important as what you do play. He knows when to let the passage "breathe" and "bloom".
I got to admit...ive seen Martin 5 times in concert and I have to say its almost spirtual....I've gone through a divorce, birth of my daughter, and a 6 month deployment to Iraq with Martin's music by my side and it truly makes me understand how love and heart ache can create perfect music. Martin is the shit and I make sure any one who hasn't heard of him does....
I discovered Martin 10 or 11 years ago. Saw him at a small venue in 2001, maybe 100 people there. Being a fan then felt kind of like being a member of an exclusive club. At my wedding in 2002 the bridal dance began with 'Diggin' Me," which my wife and I consider our song. I live in a cave as far as pop culture goes, so I had no idea until recently how big he's become. He's earned it.
i love to play guitar, and i love martins songs so naturally i want to play them but i don't that often because i laugh to myself when i think about even attempting to sing one. he is truly a musicians musician.
Found out about Martin Sexton from watching an older Ryan Montbleau performance. I can't believe I've never heard him before, not only does he have that gift for making everything seem so effortless, he has this...presence...on stage that few people can match. And as good as Mayer is, his vocal just seem strained and pushed next to Mr Sexton. Good shit. ya
nightdescend Marty is fabulous, such an inspiration & one of Ryan’s Favorite Musicians.. I remember when Ry first got to meet him and then when they started playing together, such an amazing time.. I loved hearing them just jamming out together.. One of my favorite musically soulful experiences was not in any concert just a few of us sitting around.. Absolute imperfect perfection.. 💗 Such beautifully talented musicians, and just as amazing lovely Souls.. 💞
Marty is perhaps the master of "overkill" ......you should hear some of his extended live versions of Gypsy Woman......I cant figure out for the life of me how he has not mainstreamed yet.......defies logic.........I remember his small local shows in Syracuse....Hes brilliant......
two of the coolest people ever. What's white got to do with it (Chris Rock reference ;) I love how John shows us so much of his influences, I love all of it.
this is epic. my opinion of john mayer goes even higher for appreciating martin. someone must have let their deaf beagle walk over the keyboard to hit the thumbs down key. would so love to have a recording of this. that little riff at 5:41!
It's fun to Watch Martin Sexton (who's not near as known as John Mayer, but is 10 times more original and gifted) up there. John wanks a little much, but it's cool. Martin IS your right brain. Love it!
@Bdasef I agree with you, However Mayer's been with Columbia records for more than 10 years now and with that time more faith has been invested in to Mayer's work. Columbia Records now know that whatever Mayer releases will sell in mass. Therefore his next album to be released is a Folk album (sort of a throwback to the 1960's 'free wheelin' by Bob Dylan). If you look at Mayer's last two albums its obvious he's had control over their elements as he wrote recorded and co-produced them!
I was joking man. One of Chris Rock's jokes is "what's BLACK got to do with it!" I'm not offended, I'm Indian. I'm over race offence now. lol. Take care man. btw, thanks for the upload, amazing song.
John Mayer, maybe. But if you think any of those others "rip off Marty's style" then you really need to clean the shit out of your ears. They're all super-talented in their own rights, and Marty deserves all the respect and credit in the world, but your claims are just absurd.
second that. more range and diversity. and anybody van say what they will about John Mayer but he can rip at the guitar and sings pretty well. Still, not my favorite. Martin, on the other hand, one of my idols....
Can’t believe more people don’t know about Martin Sexton. Really happy to see John showing some love.
An extremely talented, un-famous artist. Blows my mind that he's not known on the world stage, but for those of us who know and appreciate him... he's touched our hearts in equal magnitude.

Saw Martin Sexton first in Dallas opening for Nickel Creek. Then fell in love and saw his shows.
Commenting years after this video was uploaded, but Martin Sexton is one of the best live performers I have ever seen in my life. He has such a natural way of filling up the room with his sound. Highly recommend checking him out!
You hit the nail on the head, you really can't fully admire Martin Sexton until you see him live. It's remarkable.
Marty Sexton is a gift from the musical gods. no matter how many times i've seen him live, it's always different, and somehow always better than the time before.
Martin Sexton = best singer I've ever heard in person. Kudos to Mr.Mayer for recognizing a guy who deserves more exposure.
thank Baby Jesus someone recorded this.......
No one sings and plays with more heart than Martin Sexton. He sings the same, whether the crowd is 20,000 or 20. The mark of a true artist
I about shit when I heard Sexton's reaction to the solo john played (4:04) I laughed so hard , how fucking cool is martin Sexton? Goddamn!!

lowkey one of johns best solo's and no one will ever know...
I know, you know, we know....over and over and over, if they don't know, they aren't supposed to...
If that was one of his best, that's too bad. His skills are there, but there's a depth missing.
I have been listening to Martin Sexton since I was a sophomore in college in 1998, when he was still just a local Boston/Cambridge guy.

Man o Man..Wish I could of transported myself to this show. Awesome!

Martin Sexton fans have the best taste of music! Seeing him tonight for the third time and cannot wait!
I discovered Martin 10 or 11 years ago. Saw him at a small venue in 2001, maybe 100 people there. Being a fan then felt kind of like being a member of an exclusive club. the greatest collab john has ever done.... a hidden gem.....
I had the honor of playing with Martin 12 years ago, and to this day, that is still undoubtedly my favorite song of his.

two of the coolest people ever. What's white got to do with it (Chris Rock reference ;) I love how John shows us so much of his influences, I love all of it.
Oh my lord...
this is epic. my opinion of john mayer goes even higher for appreciating martin. someone must have let their deaf beagle walk over the keyboard to hit the thumbs down key. would so love to have a recording of this. that little riff at 5:41!

Martin is the most talented musician todyay. This is not my opion this is fact.

@CareyH316 Yeah I'm a big John Mayer fan but it's true.

Two of the coolest white guys ever.
The word you're looking for is different.

@CareyH316 ya think???
I was joking man. One of Chris Rock's jokes is "what's BLACK got to do with it!" I'm not offended, I'm Indian. I'm over race offence now. lol. Take care man. btw, thanks for the upload, amazing song.
This title is misleading. Clickbait if you will. They didnt mention that they were thinking bout me ONE SINGLE TIME?!?!?!

One "dislike"? WTF?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn! Now i just need a cigarette...whew!
fiiiiiinneee the font's alright i guess...
1 dislike=1 major bieber fan
Love Martin but John Mayer defiantly won the gene pool...
Ha. James Blunt gets huge and Martin (for the most part) doesn't? this is a fucked up world we live in people.
white has nothin' to do with it, i just overdid when I wrote that but these two guys are great, didn't say that to offend.
John Mayer, maybe. But if you think any of those others "rip off Marty's style" then you really need to clean the shit out of your ears. They're all super-talented in their own rights, and Marty deserves all the respect and credit in the world, but your claims are just absurd.
good stuff. alittle overkill on the solo tho
What a shame that John Mayer actually speaks about his "biggest hater." What's to hate about him?
second that. more range and diversity. and anybody van say what they will about John Mayer but he can rip at the guitar and sings pretty well. Still, not my favorite. Martin, on the other hand, one of my idols....
