Independent musicians make their own music. If he were produced, more people would know him but the music would not be his own. I saw Martin Sexton at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA (May 6th). He's an amazing talent!
video is oh so good! MS blows my mind every time I see him live. felt like being there. holy s***!! it would be awesome to see him do this number at the Park West in Chicago on May 15.
His bass lines are great and he's playing melody too. I watched this with my subwoofer on and it was amazing how it completed the viewing experience. It reminded me of standing in front of his speakers at a show. Thanks Fee!
It's not a talk box. I think he's got a noise gate set for hard noise suppression, because some of the attack is really sharp and precise, a volume pedal for the swells. And yeah, some massive distortion (Big Muff?). Whatever, it's freakin brilliant!
Hey Fee, great video! I think that he's just using a distortion pedal, like a tube screamer, on the mic, and it looks like he's using a volume pedal along with it. I've been playing myself for almost 20 years, and that's the only thing I can think of! Frampton used a "talk box", which runs through the mic and the guitar, but Marty's effects are definately on the mic only. Keep all the great vids coming, can't wait to see him this fall! -Jason
Not exactly sure what effect he is using, i do know he uses a pedal to open and close the effect. Kinda like Frampton, but then not really. Glad you dig it
Never delete this video, it is the best live performance of anything ever.

This phrase gets thrown around quite often but when describing Martin Sexton, his guitar is truly "an extension of himself!"
No amount of practice will get you that which Martin has.
Stunning.
this man is amazing. probably best singer/songwriter since paul simon
love this guy, so grateful I was introduced to this fine artist about 8 years ago.
