Yeah he's had serval quotes float around about John Mayer that were more than favorable. He kinda says those kinda things about all of his musical peers, though. Clapton's just a class act in terms of how he carries himself and talks about others. Just a good dude. Though, John is, objectively speaking, one of the best ever. Seriously. He's criminally underrated by some of the general public cause of the, admittedly very douchey, image he gave to the press and public back when he first got really big and men in the early 2000's were jealous of his talent and looks. But to the music lovers AND those in the music industry itself, he's held up as up there with the best. I mean, he was in the top 10 of Rolling Stones' 'Top 100' list like 8, maybe 9 years ago. So there you go. That's really all you need as they have been the true arbiters of those type of lists since forever. If anyone needs proof, just tell them to ask ANY random guitarist if John Mayer is one of the best. Guarantee you they'll say yes. If they don't, they've never listened to him and DAMN sure never tried to play any of his songs. His songs are.....definitely not for beginners. I'll say that. Hah.
The bittersweetness that Mr Clapton brings us is always heart-breaking.....how could anybody vote against this? John made a consummate contribution too!!!! I feel honored to be alive as this happened......
Eric is a Legend...John is one of the up and coming guitar masters...it all breaks down to this: They are both musicians of a caliber that so very few ever get to. Just enjoy what they do~~~
All sane guys would sacrify everything to have what John Mayer got; Succes, Talent, Great looks, Ladies and Respect from whom he look up to the most in this World. Well Done!
i know that feeling when you are playing with you're master/teacher/the one who pushed you to play guitar. same what i felt when me and my high school teacher reunited after 5 years. we played a lot of Beatles song.... that feeling was unexplainable.
That feeling was "Humanity", and you are thankfully thankful that you experienced it. I have taught music and IT for the past 40 years. You are yourself the Master when you teach what you have been taught. You must give everything you know away to the wind to clear your mind for new knowledge. Everything is a circle - what you send away returns with new information, endlessly.
no puedo dejar de ver, una y otra vez, este vídeo, aparte de que la canción es extremadamente hermosa e intensa. Ver juntos a dos maestros es, sin duda, impresionante
Eric Clapton is unforgettable .. John Mayer is a fine example of a modern artist ....... how can people dislike either? they make and sing real music with real aura!.. respect..
They weren't "dueling". Both men played beautifully and both of their solos were spectacular. They play amazingly together and they are both 2 of the greatest musicians alive. This song is wonderful.
When the wind blows down this hard, Many a bond is broken. See the water lie on the ground From where the heavens opened. Lord, how will you get through this night With your dreams departed? And who alone will comfort you? Only the broken hearted. So you've gone beyond your means, Every wound is open, Your best laid plans are out of reach, And all your fears unspoken. Lord, how will you get through this night With your dreams departed? And who alone will comfort you? Only the broken hearted. Sweet revenge is spoken then; In the twilight it is gone. To living lies with no escape, Lord, I would rather be alone. I press my fingers to the wood To tell you of my dreaming, To sing you songs from olden times, To keep the love light gleaming. 'Cause there's a place where we can go, Where we will not be parted. And who alone will enter there? Only the broken hearted. Only the broken, broken hearted [Repeat: x4]
man, every time I hear Eric Clapton and John Mayer I think "the perfect artists, they dominate their instrument and have a voice that can reach heaven"
No one can ever replace or take Claptons place but i think that Mayer could climb just as high, hes a talent and shows great interest for claptons music.
It's pretty easy being a John Mayer fan, considering I love everything he's ever wrote and performed... and especially since he has played on stage with my favourites like Dave Matthews, BB King, Eric Clapton and many more...
God this performance gives me the chills. Not only because a living legend is performing it with a future legend, but because of the emotion behind when and why it was performed. Beyond words. Cheers.
Some wood, some metal strings, mixed with a shit ton of soul and harmony, and a human voice box. Equals heaven to the ears and wondering mind! I love how simple this gig is. I ripp my own leads to it with John, and omg! What greatness in music we have!! God bless
one of the few times that you will actually see john mayer "solo" on an acoustic guitar because he says he can't quite bend to the notes he wants to get.
how are there any dislikes, seriously? two amazingly talented musicians doing an acoustic version of Broken Hearted......what's there to dislike? some people just don't get music I guess....
I read this comment and was like "well put", and low and behold it was good old johnny stewart. Keep up the good work on the songs man, like the vids and you playing with your pops.
it must be a big honor to perform with clapton one of the greatest players ever together with knopfler and hendrix...great performance mayer made it special..
This song means such a lot to me as my mum was dying when l first heard it. Now eleven years on and several lovely people recently departed, it seems more meaningful than ever. What a year 2022 has been.Tears in Heaven for Steve, Geri, Francesca, and now Peter C. 😔
The 2 slowhands here, love this song and possibly 2 of the greatest bluesy rock guitarists around. They both play with passion, yes they have some technical ability although not the greatest but they play from the soul. Few people are more at one with their instrument than Eric. Truly a joy to listen to
Two well sounding acoustic guitars overlapping each other is the best thing in music. And in this case it's being played buy two of the masters. What more could one ask for?
I've never heard this song before until now and it is the prettiest Clapton song I've ever heard, even better than "Tears in Heaven". It especially hits home for me because of why they are playing it -- to help Katrina victims, which I've done the past 2 summers. I love NOLA, I love this song!
Two of the best blues guitarists of all time! Fantastic collaboration and musical arrangement. Shame Stevie Ray Vaughn is no longer alive as they could have done a trio
This was uploaded on UA-cam when I was in the 6th standard of high school and desperately wanted to grow older. Now I'm quite old and clueless about life.
Hahah he's unreal man. It is a VERY easy mistake to make though. He just played a note in the minor scare a half step too early. If he had done that exactly a half step later it would've blended in A LOT better. Very common mistake in songs like this one. Every player makes that one every now and then, just gotta listen to them often enough to hear the mistakes!
I'm going to watch this 403 more times so that is will reach 3 million views and just because it's such an increadible song performed by two of my biggest inspirational musicians!
Eric is so relaxed, just wonderful. He's the one. John is doiong a great job, he's hopefully the one to carry the blues into the next generation! If not him, who else?
Amen. Dude can play the blues. Hanging with Clapton, and has got his own signature Martin. Must be doing something right. Forget that "body is a wonderland" crap though.
Uros Ogrizovic I love every John Mayer album, each has a different and own feel. but one of my favourites: Good Love is on the Way. That song is just soooo great, in every aspect (at least in my opinion).
Uros Ogrizovic Good choice! And of course, both studio and live versions of the song are amazing, can't tell which one I've listened to more times! But damn, that is a hard choice, choosing my favourite JM album. I guess it has to be Continuum, that's when I got to know John, and songs like Burning and Stop This Train, not to mention Gravity, those are just pure gold in my opinion. and the fact of nostalgia plays a role I guess! ^^
So funny, I have said that very thing about the guitar masters have passed the torch to John m. but I'm afraid it's to late. John M. is a master as well but in todays world of fake music there is no place for a real master.
Clapton was quoted in Rolling Stone magazine in 2005 that John Mayer was one of the most gifted Blues guitarists he's had the pleasure of playing with.He went on to say that only one other time in his life had he encountered such talent at an early age.The other gentleman he was referring to was Stevie Ray Vaughn. That's a pretty heavy endorsement from a pretty heavy hitter.
Is it possible anyone can dislike this performance? Clapton the master, John not even singing but playing the most incredible guitar aside the man. I just don't get it. They are singing about hope for humanity. You really dislike this? How sad can one be?
18 years later and i keep coming back to this incredible moment of musical genius.
Yes
There's something about that JM solo. Flawless.
its called "mayer's maze".... and we all are blessed to happily stuck in that maze.. 😅🙅♂️🎼
Perfection is rare and it's nice to see you praise it
Eric Clapton once said referring to John Mayer’s guitar playing, “I don’t think John knows how good he is.” A serious compliment!
In that same statement Clapton said Mayer was a “Master Guitarist”...even better than just “ I don’t think he knows how good he is.”
Yeah he's had serval quotes float around about John Mayer that were more than favorable.
He kinda says those kinda things about all of his musical peers, though. Clapton's just a class act in terms of how he carries himself and talks about others. Just a good dude.

John has a fairly confident and comfortable ego....I think he knows how good he is...
@@dusty8026 haha. Very astute comment!
Like father and son. Always a treat to see them play side by side. Thank you guys! Peace, one love
two of the best to ever pick up a guitar. I'd love to see them do an all acoustic album together. can we please make this happen?
+theheebs100 If you could have a Mayer and Clapton album, why would you want it to be all-acoustic?!
Hannes Ekman completely understand the question as both of these guys can make an electric wail, but I'm just a huge fan of their acoustic music.
theheebs100
They've recorded 3 songs together that I know of.. Lies, magnolia, and I forgot the third...
Matt Mitchell
Magnolia is so fucking good
Hannes Ekman
yes indeed. I love John's voice in it. Clapton said John finished it in one or two takes and within 2 hours it was done.
for about 10 years now, i always come back to this performance. pure epicness
Clapton's voice is incredible on this.
And Mayer really shows his phrasing to be amongst the best in the world...
They should go on an acoustic tour together. holy moley
I love how you can hear a little of Clapton in this solo by John.
@Mike music is not a competition,
The bittersweetness that Mr Clapton brings us is always heart-breaking.....how could anybody vote against this? John made a consummate contribution too!!!! I feel honored to be alive as this happened......
Alan Carpenter listen to, I looked away, lately
This was uploaded to UA-cam when I was just starting 5th grade. I just graduated from community college.
+Indy The Great does it feel the same or any different? I mean the song :)
+Indy The Great Ok.
i was in grade 3....now almost graduated
oh yes, me too! this was uploaded when I was in 5th grade. man, it's been a long time.. I'm still in 5th grade
LOL
bryan rivera 🤦😂😂
wow, 5th grade!
i was 5 years old lol
One of Eric's finest songs.John plays so well on this. The master & his pupil.
Wow… I’m just speechless. This is probably Clayton’s most underrated song, this version is especially beautiful with John Mayer playing a killer solo.
Missing my daddy-o... Always and forever will do my best to make him proud of me. Love b
Eric is a Legend...John is one of the up and coming guitar masters...it all breaks down to this: They are both musicians of a caliber that so very few ever get to. Just enjoy what they do~~~
As a guitarist not much of a Mayer fan, Clapton very much so
Clapton.. his voice is so classy and deep. it draws you to listen to what he has to say..
All sane guys would sacrify everything to have what John Mayer got; Succes, Talent, Great looks, Ladies and Respect from whom he look up to the most in this World. Well Done!
i know that feeling when you are playing with you're master/teacher/the one who pushed you to play guitar.

They're using both their martin signature guitars OMG!!!! THEY WILL WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF MY BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS IN PLAYING GUITARRR OMFG
thanks to the heavens that we still have incredible guitar artists left on this world. I would give my eye-teeth to jam with either of these guys!
This is some of the most emotive brilliance I have ever heard. Long live blues, Clapton and guitar.
no puedo dejar de ver, una y otra vez, este vídeo, aparte de que la canción es extremadamente hermosa e intensa. Ver juntos a dos maestros es, sin duda, impresionante
Eric Clapton is unforgettable .. John Mayer is a fine example of a modern artist ....... how can people dislike either? they make and sing real music with real aura!.. respect..
Eric, thanks for all the chills your very special.
Wow.. first time I see this. Both on their signature Martin’s. Beautiful. Two absolute legends! Love it.
this is a great commercial for martin guitars
Diane from Martin couldn't sell them any better herself.
i will never cease to be amazed at the gift of music that eric clapton has.....he is the best friend a song will ever have.
Such true notes been played through the emotions of a human heart...
They weren't "dueling". Both men played beautifully and both of their solos were spectacular. They play amazingly together and they are both 2 of the greatest musicians alive. This song is wonderful.
When the wind blows down this hard,
Many a bond is broken.
See the water lie on the ground
From where the heavens opened.
Lord, how will you get through this night
With your dreams departed?
And who alone will comfort you?
Only the broken hearted.
So you've gone beyond your means,
Every wound is open,
Your best laid plans are out of reach,
And all your fears unspoken.
Lord, how will you get through this night
With your dreams departed?
And who alone will comfort you?
Only the broken hearted.
Sweet revenge is spoken then;
In the twilight it is gone.
To living lies with no escape,
Lord, I would rather be alone.
I press my fingers to the wood
To tell you of my dreaming,
To sing you songs from olden times,
To keep the love light gleaming.
'Cause there's a place where we can go,
Where we will not be parted.
And who alone will enter there?
Only the broken hearted.
Only the broken, broken hearted [Repeat: x4]

The ability to play different styles and sorts of music shows a real craftsman.
Two well sounding acoustic guitars overlapping each other is the best thing in music. And in this case it's being played buy two of the masters. What more could one ask for?

Two of the best blues guitarists of all time! Fantastic collaboration and musical arrangement. Shame Stevie Ray Vaughn is no longer alive as they could have done a trio
Musical treat to ear..love it.
the bassline clapton is playing evokes an unexplainable amount of emotions
Le canzoni di Eric le conosco tutte, ma le ascolto tante tante volte !!!

+onda durto una meraviglia
This is sincere and honest. Feels like he means every word he sings, great great song!
This was uploaded on UA-cam when I was in the 6th standard of high school and desperately wanted to grow older. Now I'm quite old and clueless about life.
Happens to the best of us! I hope you've found whatever it may be that you're looking for!
ones of my favourite videos of all time. still watching this 11 years hence
Oh my!! The first time i've ever seen Clapton making a mistake!! 03:25 Now i can sleep in peace at nights knowing that he's a human being :D
Hahah he's unreal man. It is a VERY easy mistake to make though. He just played a note in the minor scare a half step too early. This is an absolute gold. What a find.
thanks for sharing man
Just two Martin guitars sounding as good as can be with each other. This is the greatest.
At 3:37 happens something special. Because its not every day you get the middlefinger from Clapton.
I'm going to watch this 403 more times so that is will reach 3 million views and just because it's such an increadible song performed by two of my biggest inspirational musicians!

One of the greatest guitarists in history and a guitarist who will become one of the greatest modern guitarists
As douchey as John Mayer can be at times.... the man's a surgeon on the guitar.
Amen. Dude can play the blues. Hanging with Clapton, and has got his own signature Martin. Must be doing something right. Forget that "body is a wonderland" crap though.
Uros Ogrizovic That's fine. It's just not for me.
Uros Ogrizovic The acoustic version of 'Something like Olivia' is awesome.
Uros Ogrizovic I love every John Mayer album, each has a different and own feel. but one of my favourites: Good Love is on the Way. That song is just soooo great, in every aspect (at least in my opinion).

This seriously made me wanna cry ...... too good.
oops did i hear a wrong note at 3 ,25 ? play it back and see what you think !
i love this version of the song...i think both of them are incredible musicians and songwriters.
So funny, I have said that very thing about the guitar masters have passed the torch to John m. but I'm afraid it's to late. John M. is a master as well but in todays world of fake music there is no place for a real master.
+kevin hinson

Clapton was quoted in Rolling Stone magazine in 2005 that John Mayer was one of the most gifted Blues guitarists he's had the pleasure of playing with.He went on to say that only one other time in his life had he encountered such talent at an early age.The other gentleman he was referring to was Stevie Ray Vaughn. That's a pretty heavy endorsement from a pretty heavy hitter.

Wow... Music at it's purest & simplest form...INCREDIBLE !
Beautifully poetic but sad lyrics. Gosh, this is great. Tears at the ol' heartstrings. Sniff.
beautiful song too, but what else is to be expected from two extremely talented people such as these two..
6k+ views in a week and no commentary ! So glad to see so many people came here to listen to (good) music and not to argue or even troll !!!
Still love Eric Clapton & John Mayer in 2021 two AMAZING musicians that care about people and are still humble! Keep the LOVE going!
I love the fact that John didn't get into Eric's territory. He's a good lad, and Eric knows about being broken hearted. Bless 'em all.
them playing together is perfect. i have nothing more to say . perfect
