The Genesis G90 is a full-size luxury sedan from Hyundai’s new Genesis brand. The Genesis G90 is basically a $75,000 Hyundai - so today I’m reviewing the 2017 Genesis G90 to show you what you get when you spend $75,000 on a Genesis.

If you say Genesis is $75,000 Hyundai, then say that Bentley is $350,000 Volkswagen.
Рафаэль Адилова lol Bugatti is a 3 millions dollar Volkswagen haha 😂
Lamborghini is $600,000 Volkswagen.
Let’s just say, Volkswagen is the luxury car maker and will probably soon own Rolls Royce too.
You have it backwards, a $20,000 Volkswagen is a low budget Audi and a $100,000 Audi R8 is a low budget Lamborghini.
VW didn't create bentley nor bugatti, VW bought them. Lambo was bought by audi and audi was bought by vw.

In January I received my G90 5.0 . I also received my S560 which I had previously configured and ordered. I disclose that since 1969 I have driven Mercedes from C to S Class. Except for one year that I wanted to try a Bentley and fell in love with an Arnage in the dealers showroom. That Arnage lasted less than two years as I hated the drive and the uncomfortable seats in the front. I happen to be 6'1" and My seat was pushed all the way back and lowered to maximum. I went back to the S550 until the end of 2017. By pure chance, an acquaintance traded his S550 for a G90 in December. He raved about the car as the best he ever drove. He took me for a spin and I was truly mesmerized. My S560 on order had cost me $137K as I like my cars with all the bells and whistles. This car had it all and more. Everything you saw in this clip plus Media screens for the back passengers. Reclining rear seats controlled for AC or heat. The car drives like a charm, featured different comfort levels from soft to race mode. The V8 is extremely powerful - more power than really needed. All this at half the cost of a new S560 with similar features and drive. The Genesis is as long as the S560 and somehow the rear passengers seem to have more space. I love this car and for the money - I am a long term customer. If you are materialistic and on an ego for brand, sorry to tell you you are missing out.

heyJustephan Audi is the only reliable one amongst the German brands, with Mercedes being decently reliable
Korea has now come a far way in terms of reliability now, especially offering that 10 year warranty now

heyJustephan we literally own a 2016 Audi and a 2016 Mercedes, along with 2 other Japanese cars. This car is well worth $75k. A really good buy if you're in the market. In a couple of years when you can buy a used one for $30k, it'll be the ultimate uber or lyft car
Gregory Kanniard yes cause IMO a preowned Equus is the best steal in the used car market by far!!!
Gregory Kanniard It will be more than a couple years these cars typically have a good resale value
Lol 😁😁😁😁😔
We just bought a 2016 fully loaded with 34k miles for $30k. Love it. AWD 3.8 and pretty fast for a luxury car.
To me it's the acura RLX I just bought, overpriced as a new car, well underpriced a used one. A new model was tailing me just an hour ago and I said to myself; you bought this new? God you're stupid! How can you be this stupid and still afford this, this is the ultimate proof that life is unfair!
This is a bargain for the ultra luxury market- very thoughtfully done. And the used prices should be insane.
This isn't ultra luxury. Maybach, Bentley and Rolls Rolls are ultra luxury.
@@TheEchelon yeah but considering the car value: Price ratio, it is
Update : You can buy a very nice 2017 G90 today for $35,000. A new Rolls Royce that looks very similar will cost you TEN TIMES that price! The perfect car for the bargain hunter.
"used prices should be insane" thats exactly why I won't buy one, because the resale value is awful

The video started with a blind bias. "A 70K Hyundai".
I know. It's like saying a Porsche Panamera GTS is a $120,000 Volkswagen.
Benjamin Smith wrong comparison. Porsche was bought out by VW, while Genesis is literally a company that is a subsidiary of Hyundai.
Hyundai today makes great cars, the problem is us we should uptade our minds and accept the Reality, i know it's hard but for sure the new generation will be proud of owning one, the old generation used to make fun of Toyota and Honda, now they are the best selling cars in America!
Agree!! I have sonata it is 👍
Only Hyundai I would buy is the G70 sexy azz ride
Nobody says on a Lexus: “this is a 70.000 dollars toyota”
Lexus are overrated anyway. No wonder why you barely see any of these in Switzerland or Germany.
That's so true
Nobody says a Bugatti is just a $3,000,000 Volkswagen
SwissMarksman is it because they are all driving german cars?
+JackStrait
Or that a Lamborghini is just a 300 000 Audi. And Audi is a 100 000 Volkswagen.
I think you just wanted to be negative about Genesis from the beginning. What's wrong with $75000 Hyundai? Yeah... Lexus is $75000 Toyota, Acura is $75000 Honda, Infiniti is $75000 Nissan, Audi is $75000 Volkswagen and Cadilac, Lincoln....etc.
Well, I watched many of his videos... he is not very objective, he talks about the strangest things with full-on enthusiasm... and oh so many times, takes the best solutions as "strange" or "no purpose"... However, he does have access to cars most people never will and at least is honest with himself. On one side it does sometimes annoy me when he goes "5 years old with a new toy - mode" but trying to be objective - I wish more people would be that way. =Not trying to fulfill some social norms and adjusting who you are. He is who he is and he is honest about it. So good for him. Most people who give him criticism in comments would kill to have his job. And so would i.
So true, he's not objective, very subjective
Cuz fam one word.. Hyundai
Hyundai makes the best looking cars now. They're breaking away from the cost-cutter label they've been slapped with and decided to do all their luxury cars under a separate badge ... like Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus. They offer the most for the money. If I get rid of my old Acura TL Type S, I'd go with a Genesis
Yo I'm new into cars , Can ya tell me the top luxury auto brands , I know bmw & audi , & Benz the basic , but I'm trying pick a fitting for me I also know Lexus, let me know I like popping trends I know for sure there some good luxury that aren't popular
If they add a gesture recognition system it should be called Genesis: invisible touch
I know Doug could be harsh when reviewing but this car deserves no hate when it comes to it's sound system. I have a Genesis and my god is the surround sound system just amazing. If you have not experienced it, it is well worth going to a showroom just to test it out.
It's not really a "$75,000 Hyundai", as you said - it's a $75,000 Genesis. Unless you always call a Lexus a Toyota...or an Infiniti a Nissan...or an Audi a VW.
MSRP for the G90 in the US starts at $68,350...so there's only about $7k from base model to fully optioned. Looked at the options prices from MB or Lexus lately? Frankly, if one ignores the snob value of nameplates and badges (which aren't really indicative of quality any more)...it seems to be a pretty good deal, especially if they continue with their traditional 10 year warranty.
aussiebloke609 he isn't calling it a Hyundai though. Rewatch the video, it's called a "hunday" apparently.
Sometimes even a "Honday" which is this weird mix of Honda and a Day :)
Or unless you call an Acura Integra a Honda Integra... Oh wait...
As he said, these brands are literally made by the same manufacturer. Who would buy a Lexus if they weren't made by Toyota? One important outlier though is Audi, which was bought by VW.
Oh wow! You are the first Genesis fanboy ever! Congratulations, you are starting a powerful keyboard clan. Maybe some day your clan will declare a war on the BMW Fanboy Empire. Sky is the limit!
aussiebloke609 you don’t buy a Lexus at a Toyota dealer or and Acura at a honda dealer. This you can buy right along it’s cheap counterparts. Call it what you want but you aint fooling anybody lol it’s a Hyundai
I have an original genesis sedan and honestly when it goes, i will be buying another. they are AMAZING cars for tearing up highway miles.
I recently bought a Equus for $10k, which was this car’s predecessor. So far I’ve been absolutely blown away at the amount of car you get for the money.
Yeah, but Lexus was like that too in the beginning.
Any bank breaking repairs yet ?
@@Jdp313 Not yet, had a few little issues here and there but nothing major enough to make me sell it or cause me to break the bank. One major point of concern is the air suspension, it's known to fail and I don't have any records from the previous owner so I don't know if it's been serviced before in the past. So on that note I'm just crossing my fingers.
@@1Reddd Oh nice, I'm sure they would make a macpherson strut replacement if the air ride was too much to replace. But air rides feels so smooth.

You should see the 2020 Genesis G90, totally redesigned, and off the wall looks.
My son-in-law bought a new Hyundai several years ago. I sort of snickered about it at the time, however, he has close to a hundred thousand miles on it now and has had literally nothing go wrong with it. He does the proper scheduled maintenance and nothing more. He's a fairly aggressive driver and does not baby the car. The car's interior looks like the day he bought it. None of the interior materials are falling apart or wearing out. Same with the outside of the car. The paint still looks like new and none of the trim is falling off or fading. This car lives in the California desert and is never parked in the garage. Also, his gas mileage hasn't diminished at all. Needless to say, I've been impressed with the car, especially for the price.

Hyundai > infiniti
Hyundai makes way better looking cars than Infiniti
IMO
yeah as of late definitely. Q50 trash compared to the G35/37
Nissan and Infiniti have lost it's way, the Q50 was definitely a downgrade from the G35/G37
Aqib Mehmood wrong hynduai will never make a better looking car than the new q60
They used to make great cars and G series was last golden age for Infiniti. But, Acura is in worse situation.
Aqib Mehmood infinity is just a copy cat from Nissan, exp- armada=qx80, rogue=qx60x they’re identical to each other, exterior to interior
I've had a Benz S550, a BMW 5series and and now have a 2018 G90 and I wouldn't trade it for any of the others. If Benz, BMW and Audi are such great cars, how come they only back them for 3 years instead of the 10 that Hyundai gives?? My Genesis has more standard options than all of them and the car is 50K less. Take all your high over priced cars and your status symbols and shove it. You can't beat the Genesis PERIOD!
Alpha Omega for real! I got an 08 750li and i would gladly trade for this Genesis! This car has so much practical options instead of thousands of useless gimmicks that you see in BMWs and Benzes...plus they're built to last and not gonna depreciate to the price of Ford Fiesta in the next 5 years.
Alpha Omega I was curious about what former luxury 🚗 owners would say about owning one. I might have to test drive one
Alpha Omega because you spent $75,000 on a car built for only $12,000 worth of parts and labor.
I hear the exact same thoughts from the prevrious benz or bmw owners. No jokes. I want to drive g90 too !
+Alpha Omega It's even worse here in Europe! The minimum required warranty period, as defined by the EU, is 2 years and that's exactly what the German car companies apply! And since Genesis cars aren't imported in the EU, anyone looking for a luxury car has got no other choice!
Also, many people here are badge snobs, even if they can't afford these cars! So you see them rolling in basic BMWs, with little to no optional extras, even without alloy wheels!
Fun fact - this is what the Equus you reviewed has evolved to over the last ~20 years. In fact they call this model the Genesis EQ900 in Korea
Why are you calling it a Hyundai when you've already said it's a separate brand?
IT IS NOT SEPARATE . Go to the Hyundai website AND they list Genesis AS a model.
738polarbear it is a separate brand! The brand itself is owned by Hyundai

I mean he even gave the Kia Stinger a 7 and to my knowledge they are near copies of each other as far as cargo space goes, plus they're both v6 twin turbos....actually....way more identical than I previously thought. Hes just a little inconsistent sometimes.

I am in the car business and it is so funny to me how half of people love Hyundais and continue to buy them and the other half of customers call them junk. From what I seen, the Korean vehicles 2009 and newer last a hell of alot longer than any German brand. Plus every Hyundai or Kia vehicle are always in the top 5 most dependable or reliable brands in alot of the publications. Just seems like some people don't want to give Japanese or Koreans credit for making a good product.
Yeah those are good cars back in 2007 this girl i know bought a old Ford Probe gave me her old piece of crap 1992 hyunde excel that little fuel injected 1.8 litre had a bunch of power I beat the shit out of that car for months and never had a problem and never broke down and still got $500 after I sold it! Saw the car 2 years later dude was still driving it I asked him if he's done any work to it he said he hasn't touched it and he drives it from Washington to California all the time! I laugh at people that say hyunde sucks! Lol!
japanese are always given good credit for making good cars what kind of weed are you smoking? the koreans on the other hand are not because its usually meant for people who are too cheap to buy a japanese rival.
We have a 2010 Kia Optima with 350k miles and yet it still runs with nothing major other than tires, oil and brakes.

This was a very long vid but you went way in depth on the features. Which leads me to the pan, WTF did you give it only a 5 in practicality? Even the Stinger GT got a 7. Is that fold down pass thru really worth 2 points? I think you just didn't want to give a "40" to a Hyundai.
1dariansdad
Stinger is a hatchback, technically, so that helps a bit... But I'm with you here, especially considering the fuel economy difference between the two is pretty slim
Especially considering the warranty.... insane deal compared to competition
Just so you know, Hyundai owns KIA.
Who cares about a 5 instead of a 7 on the stinger. The Doug score is just his opinion it doesn’t matter either way kol
Lol**
Genesis became a brand because the primary reason people buy luxury cars is for status, something that cant be had with a Hyundai badge. Its kind of sad that people behave like that.
TheAdditionalPylons I think Genesis primary market is Korea where everyone drives Korean cars
True, but the Genesis name change wouldn't be needed for that market.
Agreed with you. So only possible Market left is USA where German cars are genuinely rivaled by Japanese brands like Lexus, Infinity or Acura
No it's not. Hyundai has earned it's poor reputation that people don't want to associate with.
Totally true. I’ve driven Benzes and BMWs and to this day can’t think of why people love them so much other than the badge it has. They aren’t smooth, their interiors are crap with flimsy buttons and map lights missing lenses, they are unreliable, cost a fortune to maintain, are specifically engineered to make repairing them impossible forcing you to take it to them, and most of them don’t even have leather. They use MB tex or leatherette. I’ve started referring to these cars as disposable as you never hold onto one past its warranty period. I’d rather get a Lexus for reliability or a Lincoln for creature comforts.
My son had one of the first little Hyundai Excels imported here. Drove it 200,000 pretty much trouble free miles. Only his seat cover was wearing out when he sold it. Made me appreciate that it was a tough little car.
When this drops in price by 70% in a few months I'ma pick it up lol

"Avoiding Tunnels" In NYC is a highly useful option in GPS NAV systems, as we have many tunnels.
ed hogan and in Europe at least, you have tunnels where you have to pay to go through. Perfectly fine to avoid tunnels if I really feel to not pay the tunnel even when I have the money (in case you own this car)
Also just about ever modern nav system has the option to "avoid tunnels"
huge bang for your buck compared to others in its class

Idk, the 5.0 v8 had really bad oil consumption issues. Though they may have fixed that by now.
Yeah except you have to drive a Hyundai.
it still looks like a knockoff. good design is worth money
If the Genesis G90 was a Hyundai, it would be called the Hyundai Equus. But it’s not, it’s called a Genesis G90 for a reason, because it’s a Genesis. The Hyundai Equus was rebranded as a Genesis for a reason. To be a luxury vehicle. If people keep referring Genesis vehicles as just Hyundai vehicles, the general public most likely will not view Genesis the way it is intended to be viewed, a luxury brand.
Yes, Genesis is a branch of Hyundai, but it’s the luxury branch. So, at the end of the day, the vehicle shown in the video is a Genesis vehicle, not a Hyundai.
Wassha 09 Yup! Mental Note tho.. remember it’s still a Hyundai as Infiniti is Nissan, Lexus is Toyota, Audi is VW, Acura is Honda... and so on of the major everyday consumer car market offering a luxury experience in it’s high price profiles. At the end of the day.. I’d purchase any Hyundai b4 any Kia!!
You're a moron. Hyundai Kia and Genesis are all the same.
Your point is valid.

Exactly. Most people just get cars to show off the brand because they are insecure. Not about what the car actually offers sadly

thats so fast for a car that weighs more than 2tons 😂
That interior is gorgeous. It's also funny how much stuff you mentioned "unique" to this car is also found on a lot of Lexus models. LIke the auto mirror folding, custom maintenance mileage, auto door latching, power closing trunk/hatch etc. The LS460 has all of those things.
Ryan Gehret For a lot more money though. Unique to the price class
Ryan Gehret No shit Sherlock.
Ryan Gehret Hey didn't say everything was special to the G90 only some of those things. He never said mirror folding was spelled out on the mirror itself & The Lexus does have a power trunk but probably not a power open and close from the cabin.
Yes , but they cost way more!!!!!

Doug, I feel like saying it's a "$75,000 Hyundai" is a little disingenuous, isn't that like saying a Veyron is a "$2,000,000 Volkswagen"? Just something I've noticed you do frequently in your videos.
Troy Simpson agreed 100%
I totally get where you're coming from, but keep in mind that, unlike Lexus or Acura, the Genesis WAS branded as a Hundai until just a few years ago. Technically, it was sold as a Hyundai Equus and then as a Hyundai Genesis before finally becoming its own brand.
Or calling an expensive Lexus a Toyota.
Bad analogy because VW bought Bugatti so they're totally different. Where as say Toyota created Lexus, same goes for Hyundai-Genesis, so it's technically correct to say what Doug's saying
Except an expensive Lexus really is just the same as the Toyota version, with better options.
I want a cooled steering wheel....sometimes after parking in the sun, the steering wheel becomes somewhat rather unpleasantly warm....and thus a cooled wheel would give relief to my fingers.
A non leather steering wheel cover will help with that.
Lol sure yea. How excatly do you expect them to get refrigerant to flow through the steering wheel?
King Miura, I would recomend investing about 7 dollars for a windshield shade at your local automotive supply store. Keeps the steering wheel cool and saves your dash board from cracking.
or turn the steering wheel upside down so the part where you hold doesn't get hot
Howdy Justice 💀💀💀💀💀
The glove box kill switch is so you can turn it off for valet, use your primary key to lock the glove box, then hand the valet your "valet key" which does not operate the trunk or glove box. It simply does the driver door and starts the car. Pretty common feature IME for luxury cars starting with my 2004 Acura TL.
My 15’ sonata has those features where the music plays when you get in and out of the car.. always a nice sound
You wouldn't call an $80,000 Lexus a Toyota, why call this a $70,000 Hyundai? That's not fair to what they're trying to do
Because Genesis was originally a model of Hyundai. Genesis didn't split off as its own brand until fairly recently.
Ken Seeber but it's not like Doug didn't know that. It's not the Hyundai Genesis G90 it's the Genesis G90
some people still do and lexus has been around for QUITE a few years. genesis literally a few years
Alden Darbouze just look at the Lexus LFA, people thought it was too much expensive for a Toyota..
Alden Darbouze because all Hyundai did was drop the Hyundai nameplate from the car, that’s it.
*Umm...it's called Sega Genesis!*
It would be amazing for someone to have the engine startup on the dash to be the classic "Sega" sound.
Hyundai Mega Drive
The clock changing in accordance with the time zone is pretty badass!!!
Honestly, the audience vs on-stage settings are distinct and sound about as good as you'd imagine. It actually does a decent job filtering instruments to different speakers, and audience sounds sorta 'live' and coming from in front. On-Stage is kinda cool, imo
Doug is the type of guy to not remove a label because it told him to remove it
Gotta keep that label on there! The label is boss!
As it relates to cars, name brands don't mean a damn thing anymore. I remember in the 90s both Hyundai and Kia were some of the worst brands anyone could buy. But now they're some of the most reliable (and stylish) brands on the market. Meanwhile brands like Nissan have actually deteriorated in reliability.
CzarJuliusIII i was thinking the same lol
Stylish? You think the dead fish styling kia is pumping out looks good? Jesus H christ.
elesjuan stick to ur mazda LMAOO
CzarJuliusIII Czar as in King? Wait... Yeah... Nvm. My last name is Polish and it is spelt like this Czarniecki.
didapt gaming yes like Czar Nicholas II.
What a nice car for such a price tag and for being so unknown.
Love that G90.
9:53 The window switch is double-wide so that Genesis doesn't have to use a different door panel on RHD models, they just switch out the window switches.
Styling 5 ? That's a little bit harsh.
Hubert Wojda should be 8
Hubert Wojda nah fam looks like a Chrysler. YUCK
I would say it's a FAIR score. Not harsh particularly. My neighbour has one and my god G90 looks GORGEOUS. But the curves and lines still leave you want more. See a merc or a Beemer and have a look at it side by side with Genesis. You will see.
Its a pretty boring looking car, though. Its very "South Korean". See Dougs Korea video, if youre not sure what I mean by that.
totally harsh not little 7 is reasonable
Okay that clock moving when you change the times was dope tbh
I love this car!! I saw one in the parking lot of a store - the owner was just getting out, and I had to go over and ask him what this lovely car was.
Doug, the type of guy to be "startled" by interior led lights. Hahaha @ 6:46
Why does Doug think that most people are less observant than he is? I think most owners will notice these things he thinks they wouldn't notice.
most people wouldn't.
You don’t have to watch him
@Littleathquakes
What you meant is: most americans wouldn't
No I don't. Critics can actually help improve content.
I love how Jimmy Eat World is Doug's Terry Wogen.
I checked out one of these about 5 months ago, and they really are sweet, comfy, surprisingly fast cars. Very comfy seats in the one that I was in.
I think there are several cars in that price range that I would take before this car though.
Loser with "partial LED" lights checking in.
I know how you feel, 2018 Accord driver here. I think I'll weep to myself next time my car drives itself along rush-hour freeway traffic.
partial led virgin vs. full led chad
Jonathan Gardyn partial led virgin has no auto led unlike full LED chad
Still would like Doug to do a review of a Lexus LS... LS460/L or even the brand new LS500.
Dave Evans Yea the rear view camera mounted inside rear view mirror will be Dougs favorite feature of that car
Loving this one thanks for sharing very important information giving thanks blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
My Verloster Turbo has some of the clusters features.. like the start up and shut off music , The Surround sound , miles to set for service , Turbo 2016
Doug the type of guy to call a car head rest a pillow
It's a head restraint duhh
Is that Doug's hand between two pillows?? Those aren't pillows, that's not his hand.
23:04
The headrests on our 2017 Optima SXL are like....so soft...Like pillows!
Doug is the type of guy to teach valets how to steal items from the trunk of a Genesis G90
I hate that Doug starts out with complaints that a company launched three cars instead of all SUVs. There are so many of us that are sick of everything going to crossover or SUVs.
Long live the sports sedan!
My Subaru has that trunk lock button too. I couldn’t for the longest figure out why my trunk wouldn’t open and one day when I was getting my registration out I saw it 😂
