I concur.
I owned a Hyundai i20 Active car which I bought in august 2017 and since the beginning there are a lot of issues with the car paint and ac especially, whoever person I met and whenever we discuss, everybody having these two common issues. Just after 2 years, my ac failed where I have driven Maruti and Ford cars for more than 10 years and there was not a single issue with those cars during the entire span. Hyundai is the worst with this quality. Need your support to take it to Hyundai forum where you can get some solution.

that really is a beautiful car, love the tech. and the warranty. There are still a few of us who have NO DESIRE for an SUV, and the domestic brands are pushing us buyers to the imports. I would have no problem spending my money on a Genesis
Still a sedan, coupe, and Sportback fan here. That full hatch opening vs a trunk is damn cool imo. I want ZERO parts of a suv/crossover.
Bought a Arteon earlier this year. We are still here
Same here. But honestly....there isn’t much about ANY of the new cars of the last five years that I like. I’m still driving a 2010 Lexus and 2006 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI. As far as I can tell, the prices of their new models are insulting and the quality of the vehicles has gone backward by about a decade and a half but...nobody seems to care. It’s almost impossible not to notice the cheapness, the shortcuts, the PLASTIC EVERYWHERE that has come to represent the so-called “luxury” car of the 21st Century. They most certainly don’t make them to last forever anymore.

As always, enjoyed your review, but you missed a couple of things on this one. First, the parking buttons on the remote don't just move the car fore and aft...this thing can completely park itself, either parallel, or straight in...watch their launch video for a demo. Second, the blank area in the middle of the console scroll knob is a handwriting recognition pad...you can write out an address for the nav to search for, for example. Finally, you didn't mention the rear seat side sunshades. Although they are manual in the G80, and powered in the GV80, they are still there, and are pretty cool. As far as the "too many sedans" argument, which you must have mentioned 10 times, tell that to Audi, Mercedes, and BMW. They also have overlapping powertrains, and Genesis has done a comparable job of horsepower/displacement relative to the size of each model as the Germans. There are still plenty of people in the world who buy sedans, and there are still many sold in the US, even though many have been replaced by SUVs.

I also thought his comment on the sedans was silly... but I completely understand why he made it. Genesis needs to roll out it's SUVs and fast if it plans to be profitable for Hyundai/Kia. The Europeans have at least one SUV for every sedan at this point.
I think he means at the moment based on their lifespan so far, an early SUV/Crossover would've gotten them wayy more money to then fund sedans later on.
Audi: A3 A4 A5 sport back A6 A7 A8
Bla-bla-bla, most German brands sell those but honestly Doug is right, because all of these sedans are selling really slowly compared to the SUV stuff and crossovers. But I think Genesis started with sedans to try and install more of a luxury esthetic on their brand instead of starting directly with Karen mobiles.

Apparently everyone; In the US; SUVs made up 47.4% of sales in 2019 while sedans made up 22.1% (NY Times, May 2020). I like sedans better too but to answer your question; car companies can charge more for basically the same thing, albeit higher suspension, more storage, AWD becoming quite standard. Doug, EVERY LUXURY BRAND HAS AT LEAST 3 SEDANS...Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Acura, Lexus. I agree with your note about the overlapping engines, but they’re trying to compete in all the size classes that everyone else has.
18:00 the stacked lights and turn signals work with the shape to give the car a certain Art Deco look that Doug was not picking up on. I think it's very cool and modern-retro. (In its time Deco AKA Art Moderne was a bit futuristic.)
Nice catch, I agree.
Sharing engines? BMW puts that 3 L turbo six cylinder in almost everything it makes
Exactly. The Mercedes S-class had the same 4 cyl. diesel like the E-class and C-class and a bunch of other models. Audi A8 had the same 3.0 TDI as the Audi A4.

It's true, as mentioned by others, all major carmakers share engines amongst all their cars. No idea why it's a big deal, its been in practice for so long... a C Class and an S class literally share engines, same with a 3 series and a 7 series, not a big deal

Also, I don't think most people realize how much money they actually have to throw at things. Hyundai has deep pockets.
@@MRQ. In cheating the regulations and most breakdowns lol.
@@MRQ. exactly
@@davenz000 Well ngl that too, but they're still the best in F-segment
@@MRQ. they are best at spending the most time at the mechanics
I thought he was social distancing from the car at first
LOL you killed me
Ha he wanted everyone to see the donut marks and think he did em
I dare to say Korean cars are as reliable as Japanese ones these days.
honestly they have been ironclad since the mid 2000s going by my dad's 2004 elantra with 400k on the original gearbox/engine and all the long term reviews posted by long term owners who knew to changed the oil wasnt optional. Sadly most hyundais were not treated well, had owners who think basic maintenance is a superstition and curbs are just a mild bumps in the way of a parking spot they had eyed.
Only in the last 10 years have they been bought by the same sorts who buy hondas and toyotas.
@@anasevi9456 That's so true man, those cars are really reliable just the owners are the problem, The Elentra and the Sonata of that early-mid 2000's are such great cars, btw wich model your father had the 1.6 liter or the 2.0?
They are.
NOPE. not even Nissan level.
4 out of every 10 car fire on US highway is Hyundai or KIA.
@@kuyre2239 lol whatcha smoking?
That car is absolutely beautiful. Love the wheels and that color is gorgeous
I was waiting for this review Doug. Thanks from Seoul.
Finally, a new luxury car competitor.
I drive a 2016 Genesis which I rebadged a G80 - because. Also I drive a 2020 Santa Fe Limited 2.0T. The 2020 had dash lane view cameras and a tweak or two above my Genesis. However my Genesis is a luxury ride in every way. I intend to buy a 2020 G80 Ultimate in 2023 when it is selling at about half price. Living as I do in the very wealthy Palm Beach area I expect any previously owned car to be well cared for and will go for about 20+ K miles on one. My Genesis has 50K miles and remains a flawless vehicle so far.
Doug: "This Design rejects the overstyling these kind of cars have been getting lately"
G80: Has a grill that's like half an acre
There's a difference between opulent and overstyled.
I consider the definition of "overstyled" to be "a design you can remove 5 or 6 lines from without anything bad happening".
The rain noise sounds like a guy pissing outside after a 6pk
8:16 The smaller portion of the circle acts as a touch pad to recognize letters when written over it with your finger (to enter in addresses) and I believe there are some gesture commands as well to act as shortcuts
Yes
Thanks for reviewing the sedans. My wife and I are trend busters. We prefer sedans and in 2018 replaced her Honda Pilot with a new Mazda 6. I hate to see sedans fading in popularity.
The rain sound sounds like a public toilet😂
Roemu TT I go on UA-cam to find rain sounds or ‘A campfire on the beach with waves’ type stuff. I like to use those channels when I read.
Anyway, the sounds I find on UA-cam seem better than what I heard Doug play in the Genesis. But maybe he just picked a couple duds. I really didn’t like the Snowy Village one. I hate walking on crunchy snow like that!
@@susanmaggiora4800 yeah these kinds of sounds are good for reading and stuff but the sounds in the genesis sounds kinda like earrape/asmr😂😂
Doug is the type of guy to go off roading in his own back yard
@Houdini what’s wrong with what he said, it’s funny?
Doug is rich duhh, he has 100 acers of backyaard
@Houdini doug made the joke himself ua-cam.com/video/faSX3-ObA2A/v-deo.html
@Houdini so I'm not aloud to say any jokes on a car related video?
It is rather played out, imo
Why have they been slow with SUV's? January 2022: G80 first ever Genesis to rank #1 in sales in Korea. Korea is a sedan market and they make absolute bank here on these sedans! lol it is kind of absurd that a number one selling car can be $60K USD in its base model but yep it is.
Disappointed that the Genesis interior lighting doesn’t call blue “Pacifique”
I think its a good car but they will struggle to sell them because the brand doesn't have any heritage like Audi.
@@dragospahontu I think once the GV80 is out, the brand will truly start to build some momentum and elevate its “social status”
powerfull v8 needed
@@KC-mw8to i have no doubt these cars are built better then a BMW/Mercedes or even Audi.
Kia/Hyundai built quality and reliability is definitely superior to everyone, but they have to be persistent and they won't shift many units overnight.
@@dragospahontu I get your point but 30 years ago everyone also said this exact thing about Lexus. Now they sell 700.000 cars per year. But since their product policy is aged, I think that Genesis could take place in a few years. A few years ago people said this about tesla. Now they're one of the most valuable brands. People also said this about Volvo which used to be a normal brand but now developed successfully as a premium brand. I'll give them a try, not to mention Hyundai understands the European market wayyyy better than Toyota does.
There are so many cool cars coming out. Doug’s gonna be really busy.
Genesis took a good look at the old ipods for their screen controls, those worked basically the same way.
Yup, and I'm not a fan. Just move the screen closer so we can touch it. We meaning the driver and passenger. These Dials and now Acura's touchpads are complete junk.
I got this one, it's beautiful. The 3D gauge cluster however is a little bit too gimmicky, I turn it off since it's not HD, you can really start to see the pixels, but using it as a normal gauge cluster with no 3D, it's amazing quality. It drives very smooth, and honestly it's actually a really nice place to be. Coming from a 5 series, I'd definitely recommend this car! At least the prestige model.
the most compelling reason I'd buy this over the overrated German cars is that this one, unlike the German cars, will spend more time on the road than at the service department
Spoken like a guy who’s never owned a German lol
@@kaystarRAW owned a 2006 C230 Benz and that thing was in the shop a LOT. Tires last 10-12K miles, oil change with Mobil 1 every 4K miles ($80 in oil and filter) and mantainence cost a fortune at the Mercedes dealer.
@@morpheus_9 2017 c63 here, tires every 25k, service once every 10k.
@@morpheus_9 You can't compare German cars of 2006 to modern ones. Or any car from back then really. Different era.
@@jasonk9779 that was back in that era though. Got it in 2008 and owned until 2014.
"no way we can get better screens then were we are now"
poor Doug... never experienced a 4K 120Hz low latency screen!
poor me... me neither!
I only witnessed a 120hz screen in a Samsung store when I tried out the Note20 Ultra, and I must say, it's really smooth
Loser try 8k 180Hz. Experienced it at a tech meet up and it was incredibly
Lol some PC gamers know haha
pffft. only 120 hz? Try 244hz 4k
360Hz is already a thing lol. Sadly tech in cars evolve way slower than other industries.
