That moment when Max reads, "LONG. JOHN. SILVER." My god, it's amazing. We've watched Silver go from this little sniveling nobody to becoming the pirate king of legend, quite possibly the most famous fictional pirate of all time. That line reading is probably a top ten moment in all of television for me.
I really appreciate how gradual John's ascent has been, it's felt very natural because we've seen all the stages he's gone through (at first I wrote "the steps he's taken" smh) to earn his place at the table, literally. Season 4 is somehow even better tho, as we get to see how well a rich man, a mad man, a tyrant, and a king can work together (but most importantly we finally get to see how John establishes his chain of seafood restaurants).
It's honestly hard to believe this show is as good as it is. You'd think a show this damn good would be talked about in the same breath as like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and the other modern masterpieces. But this is the best of them, and yet totally ignored somehow. Flint and Silver is truly the best TV relationship I've ever seen. And yeah, it's hard to decide which season between 2/3/4 is the best. The fandom seems perfectly split between the three. But the fact that they're all right there on the same level is just... god damn this show is SO GOOD!! ...almost as good as every time you say 'step up' in regards to Silver. I still crack up every time.
I feel like it's because when Black Sails came along it was on a little known channel like Starz and big epic period shows only really got big with Game of Thrones and it took a few years for these type of shows to gain momentum.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 it's also because Starz doesn't know how to properly advertise their shows. it's for that reason of lot of their shows got cancelled early. like counterpart, which is in my opinion up there with black sails but got canceleld after two seasons because nobody watched it. because it was poorly advertised
@@TheArtOfSubconscious Agreed. They have never been good at promoting their stuff. Another show they had that was great was Magic City with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It may the best thing JDM has ever done and it had everything drama, intrigue, deaths, hot women and men, you had the casinos, the mob. It was like the perfect show for me. It was cancelled after two seasons. I think Starz is owned by the movie Studio Lionsgate and in the past they had been good at promoting tween movie projects like Twilight and Hunger Games, projects that bigger studios passed on and they made billions with it by doing clever marketing. But they didn't do it for their TV channel. Maybe they didn't put much effort in it, they saw it as a side money generator never thinking that cable dramas would explode at some point.
Right? A testament to the power of persuasion and propaganda! And they even planted the seeds for it very early on, when Flint told Abigail Ashe about Billy's backstory, handing out his parents' pamphlets as part of their protest.
-sighs- I guess we'll just have to binge the rest of the series. Season 4 is the best season too, with the penultimate episode being arguably one of the greatest television episodes in all of television history.
i like how this show seems to make you confused by why you're feeling so much emotion, because I was the same way. I rarely get moved during movies and tv but this show would hit me at angles i've never experienced before. i think part of it is because it's such a masterclass, the sheer brilliance moves me, as well as how so much represents larger issues in society, back then and today. thanks for promoting the show
If you like high seas stories, I suggest Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World if you haven't seen it. It stars Russell Crowe. There's also Paul Bettany and James D'Arcy, so Jarvis from Ironman and Jarvis from Agent Carter are both in the movie lol
The fact that Flint has been opening up to Silver was an omen of the captain becoming vulnerable to manipulation. Even more scarier - we don't have some little backstory to Silver as well, so even the audiences are left in the dark. More on this on the next season!
Blackbeard joined the fight just in time! Vane went out like a boss, I always love when secular characters have witty lines like what he said to the priest. I only have seasons 1-3 on my hard drive, so I'm looking forward to watching season 4 (again) with you! Last time I watched it was when it premiered, ha.
This episode is pretty much perfect, I would also call it a masterpiece. Im happy you are seeing what we see in this show, its the best thing ive ever seen.
310 is a perfect hour of television. It really is a masterpiece. Jack knew that Vane was in serious danger of being not surviving but he didn't know for certain that he was dead until Teach arrived.
That was an awesome finale I love the ending of it such a great Cliffhanger and great speech from Long John Silver when Max had to read that piece of paper about that hornigold the dead finally snake super good I love the ship battles in this season finale it was awesome
Oh my god yes. That is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Such an awesome story. Gorgeously shot and beautifuly acted. And it has probably the best sea battles and elements of cat mouse on the open sea ever filmed. Carly, you should definitely check that out at your earliest convenience...........or inconvenience. Trust me, it's THAT good
@@trav_9830 It appears to have been criminially overlooked by a lot of people over the years. It's one of those movies that pulls you into a world so well, you don't want to leave.
I just received another like for my original comment, right as I was giving the new Klipsch setup a damn good thrashing of 'Fantasia on a Theme' by Tomas Tallis. Very apt!
Your way of measuring an episode of television is precisely mine as well. For me it has always been "how did it leave me?" Meaning how did I feel at the end of it, how strong were the emotions it left swirling in my head? And it should be immediate. Like the screen going black at the end of say.....Hardhome, from Game of Thrones, or Half Measure, from Breaking Bad, or pretty much any finale of The Leftovers, or what some of the recent episodes of Watchmen have left me fealing. Just that gasp of air; the expletives and exclamations it's forcing out of me; the euphoric feeling of joyess bewilderment. It needs to happen immediately, or it's not full on real for me It's why I hate when someone says, "I'm not sure how I feel about that." To me that just means you didn't like it, or fully understand it and for some reason don't want to say so. If you really like/love something, there will be no doubt. And your eyes welling up at the end of this episode spoke volumes to that. I fucking love that about you
Great finale to a great season, only one left! I'm so glad you are enjoying it this much. It's a shame the show didn't have a big following when it came out. It was very expensive to make and it didn't have huge numbers so i believe they had to end it sooner than originally planned but thankfully it didn't affect the quality at all. They knew beforehand that Season 4 was gonna be the last and it's more fast paced because of that but it doesn't feel rushed and for many 4 is the best season. Can't wait!
I'm more aware of how deranged Silver's immediate response is to the story of Thomas... Like my dude couldn't even take 5 minutes to digest it before making it about HIMSELF! Excellent foreshadowing though with his complete failure to understand how this actually relates to Flint's motivations... He's like "oh another personal tragedy and a personal crusade" because he has LITERALLY ZERO actual understanding of Flint's (and Madi's!!) motivations aka resisting the inherent and omnipresent violence of English colonial rule...
Really phenomenal. That is Black Sails for you. My only issue was because of Billy, that the focus was shifted from Flint to Silver. And it did not needed to happen cause Flint was already extremely feared and people were waiting for his arrival. So there was this big dread coming and his name was Flint. It did not needed to create another.
The most frightening this about this entire series is the fact you believe it actually happened. This was a prequel to Treasure Island. It has a mixture of fictional and historic characters, but the story is entirely fictional.
Still can't get on board with John. I found him to be a sneaky, conniving, opportunistic, backstabbing snake the first episode and my feelings really haven't changed much. Wait. He's not a Targaryen, is he? ;-)
Oh, I get it. For me, personally, I feel like the writing on this show (characters, not necessarily plot) is SO strong that I felt rushed to like John almost immediately. I still felt like he was a snake I couldn't trust but I could see the writers turning him into our "hero" just an episode or two into the series. It felt more predictable and forced than how almost every other character arc progressed. Flint, Max, Eleanor, Billy, Jack, Anne and even Mr. Scott seemed to gradually move places. Sometimes they went where I thought they would, but often they went somewhere else entirely. Max and Eleanor are a great example. From the first episode to this one they change entirely. With John's writing I felt like the writers were bashing me over the head with "He's great!" and "You NEED to like him!" from the beginning. I still love the show, I just feel he's not the strongest "written" character. Have a great weekend.

We've watched Silver go from this little sniveling nobody to becoming the pirate king of legend, quite possibly the most famous fictional pirate of all time. @Marcus this is why actors should stick to acting and not try writing or directing lol

The dialogue is outrageously good on this show!
one of the writers is the the guy who sang for Aladdin
JVee Veneracion I had no idea. That’s cool. Thanks!
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how Billy basically created Long John Silver
Right? A testament to the power of persuasion and propaganda! And they even planted the seeds for it very early on, when Flint told Abigail Ashe about Billy's backstory, handing out his parents' pamphlets as part of their protest.
Black Sails is soooooo underated
It's criminal!
Especially by the Normies
I like to think that in time it will become legendary
I love that the only comments I see are either "this is the greatest show in the universe" or "its so underrated" LOL
