  • These shawl patterns have all been picked due to their simplicity and ease of construction. As a disclaimer, I have not personally made all of these shawls. Some I have, other shawls have been knitted and suggested by viewers, and others I chose based upon their difficulty rating and project pages on Ravelry.

    Hi! I just happened to see your podcast. I love garter stitch in shawls too: for the squishy fabric it creates and also because it makes it reversible, no really wrong or right side. Shawls are perfect this year for this spring and upcoming summer: in France, west coast, it's rainy and rather coldish !
    Have a nice Sunday.
    Looking forward for more episodes 😊

    I really enjoyed this episode Amber. I have a 5 skein mini set that I dyed with Kool Aid quite some time ago and have been looking for the perfect one skein shawlette. Amber, I put the Farmhouse Shawl and Vertices Unite on my Make9 2022 board and have yet to make them. They will carry over to 2023 as I still really want to make those two specifically. Free Ravelry pattern: Just Knit It by Susan Ashcroft - this is a simple all garter stitch shawl that is knit bottom up. You can add fringe, icord, tassels, lace (if you know how to do that), stripes, one color yarn or fancy. I’ve made it a few times in different yarn weights and types. This video reminded me of it (thank you Amber). I’m going to knit it again.

    I loved this episode. There have been a lot of compilation-type videos lately, but, in my opinion, this was the best one! I loved that you had made some of these shawls and could show real examples; I loved that you shared both free and paid-for patterns; I love that you shared what you specifically liked about each shawl.
    I recently finished a shawl that might fit into this category as well: the Cabin Path Shawl by Helen Stewart. I found it very meditative and relaxing.

    I've found the Vertices Unite sizable for thicker yarns. It is not a pattern that requires being a laceweight project to work. Given there are two sizes for fingering weight shawls, a small and a large, you can use thicker yarn on bigger needles, which gives fewer stitches to the gauge, and knit the small size for a large shawl in DK, worsted or fancy yarns. It's a great pattern for playing with and using up those odd larger yarns we tend to move away from using. One of mine is scaled to use chunky yarn on large needles.

  • @tinakercher8768

    Thank you for all the effort you put into this podcast. I find a shawl with about 400 yards sits nicely as a scarf. I enjoy knitting and wearing shawls. I would appreciate any thoughts on avoiding the bump at the top center of a crescent shawl. I have been avoiding crescents because of this bump and making half circle or shallow triangles instead.

    • @alovelyyarn
      @alovelyyarn  Рік тому

      Hello! I have heard of people having a problem with the bump, but I either haven't noticed it or don't experience that. I'm going to have to pay attention in the future when I cast those on! Thanks for watching!

    I have such a bad habit of writing to you. For about 5 years now I have been making shawls for this one church that gives out free Christmas dinner. You can donate money which would be cheaper but I have tried to make at least 4 shawls and a few cowls. Now this year I am getting a Thanksgiving dinner and I am making hats for children and I have some mittens that just need to be sewed up . Now this church is hooked to the homeless shelter and the pastor told me that he will make sure that they receive them. Now with my shawls this year I only have 2 done. One is from Outlander and the other one is from crochet crowded, I would love to make more but I am still pretty ill and it has been easier for me to make the hats for the shelter. I loved the shawls especially the farmhouse shawls. I love your podcasts and handwork. Take care and enjoy your holidays

    Hi Amber. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have only knit a couple of shawls and I gave them as gifts. I crochet most of my shawls. You have given me a lot of ideas. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    Thank you for taking the time to make this video, Amber! I added quite a few of your suggestions to my “dream knitting” list and I will definitely be revisiting this video for inspiration! I would also add the “Oakley Shawl” and “Restful Shawl”; both of those shawls that you’ve knit looked relaxing and enjoyable to knit. The “Color Craze Shawl” was also really fun and fairly easy; although the brioche may be difficult for beginners and the minis may be difficult to juggle for travel knitting 🤔
    I have some drops air in my stash and every time I see you bring out your “Dotted Stripes” shawl, I want to cast it on. It looks so cozy and I think it would make the perfect gift. My grandma has been wanting a black shawl so I may try to make that for her next year 🤍

      Hi Lilly! Sure, I could maybe tag that onto one of my future episodes. I mostly wear them around my neck rather than my shoulders. I guess I wear them more like a scarf than the traditional way of wearing a scarf.

When I reached out on Ravelry, they said the PDF was somehow lost in the website update. I'd be eternally grateful if someone had the pattern to share, since it is a free one. Please define garter . I am a bit confused by the term. I am a beginner knitter.

    • @alovelyyarn
      @alovelyyarn  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Margaret. It's been awhile since I filmed this episode so I'm not sure what I was referring to when speaking about garter. However, garter stitch fabric is achieved when you knit every row when knitting flat or, in the case of knitting in the round, you knit a round and then purl a round. It gives you a squishy fabric with little bump ridges the whole way along. I hope that helps.
