I wish I had known all this a couple of years ago! I've just frogged a very wide but very shallow lacy shawl because I prefer deeper shawls to keep my back warm. As it was knitted with 2 strands of kid-silk, it was quite a challenge frogging it! So now I'm looking at trying out a Cois Farraige style shawl, maybe by adding another colour. Knitting seems to be a never ending learning curve!

Oh that sounds like a tough one to frog for sure!

    I really like Faroese shaping

Thanks for showing Uisce. Bought pattern and started it yesterday. The length and width is perfect and a chance for me to use some worsted stash. The Waffle stitch pattern is amazingly beautiful.

      It’s an oldie but goodie!

@@CarolFeller it sure is. I’m envisioning several more for gifts and in different yarn weights but the waffles really pop with worsted weight.

Good discussion on shawls. If there is a crescent that is designed to sit consistently on the shoulders, that would be a good example. Of course I have to change things up and ask if you made your sweater and if you could share the pattern name; I love the texture and shape

All of the patterns are tagged above. Check out part 2 for crescent shapes! I'm wearing the super chunky version of Breac. stolenstitches.com/products/breac

I love this video. I am new to knitting and really appreciate the explanation of the shapes. I much prefer a rounder shape and this will help me find the right pattern in the future. The Uisce is beautiful.

As a knitter and crocheter of 60 odd years the use of a shawl had always evaded me.
    So I've never made one

I like shawls when they are really glorified scarfs! They are much more fun to knit than a scarf though!

Love your cardigan, can I find the pattern somewhere?

Thank you! The cardigan I am wearing in this video is the 'Breac' cardigan, the pattern is available here: stolenstitches.com/products/breac

Very interesting and informative. As Clare asked earlier though, did you design the cardigan and if so what is the pattern please

Oh I missed it was the sweater pattern that she was asking about and thought it was the shawls!! It is the super chunky version of the Breac cardigan (it comes with both chunky and super chunky version with the pattern). Yarn is Malabrigo Noventa. stolenstitches.com/products/breac
