I guarantee you there's some UFU nut out there claiming Shermer's photos are real.
And there's some stupid knee jerk debunker claming all UFO footage has been faked or can be easily explained,which is obviously not true,
If you want to see real UFOs or UAPs all you need to do is watch the sky when you have time. I have been looking for about a year and have 2 unexplained events. I have an app that tracks all registered aircraft and these craft are way up in the area of 40-50k ft above sea level. They are also not blinking like all aircraft need a white and a red light so pilots know what direction they are heading in when seeing other craft. Neither instances where on Flight Tracker so I’m left with it being unexplained.
It doesn't matter if you can "show" some photographs in UFOlogy are faked or hoaxed,it's irrelevant, what matters is the consistency of eye witnesses which directly matches the photograph taken.Then there comes "what the object did","what did it look like"ect.
And all the Abduction cases. All whistleblowers that have come out. There is just more then photos, there are also many videos. I’m not a firm believer but I know it’s possible that these craft exist. My theory has been that the US government has had the technology since Tesla died. They raided his Apartment and stole many inventions that where there.

(cont.) Because you've PERSONALLY looked into this and in face-to-face conversation physically confronted these pilots and other people and demanded video evidence or testimony. Even though these people are very likely highly trained, very astute and well groomed individuals who pilot high speed aircraft day in and day out, trained to recognize just about anything flying in the air over any country, but they just aren't as smart or articulate as you. My world is shattered.

I faked a ufo once. Unfortunately, I did it by building a real spaceship and flying it to Mars and back. Now I'm broke and working two jobs. I could have just used pie plates. God, I'm stupid.

They are making it very easy from them selves, with the simple fact that they are ignoring all millitary reports of radar confirmations, sightnings on millitary installations, shutting down missile silos and so on.
Shermer is brilliant, as usual.

Wow that must be the ultimate proof then? What video, where did the video come from, who filmed it?
actually by showing that a fake can be accepted by people shows that we need to do more research on a subject, rather than just thinking a picture is true because it "looks" real. A sunset and volcanic eruption are one thing, but being visited by aliens who don't even stop and say hello is something totally different.

Nicely done. Now more than ever video and film carry almost no weight as proof of UFOs as extraterrestrial craft. Your film shows why simple tricks are the most effective.
And it all started back in 1870, when a guy thought 'let's throw a cigarshaped object in the sky and photograph it and say to everyone 'hey I took a picture of an ufo!' '.

Right, and the fact that I can photoshop it doesn't mean that I have NOT been to Florida. Basically, in the modern CGI age, images don't mean much, which leaves it as an open question. Why is the phrase, "The question remains unanswered" so hard for pseudo-scientists to utter?

The idea of life on other planets isn't the part that's being debated. Most scientists agree that that the possibility of other life somewhere out there is a pretty good. The controversial part is whether these being have visited earth. Judging by the fact that so many people take the time to make up hoaxes about UFOs, and also that Einstein proved that traveling at the speed of light is completely impossible, I would say that the chances that any UFO encounter being true is pretty dang low.
Didn't you watch the clip? He never said that these fake photos disprove UFOs, just that we need much better evidence than these type of pictures. It was also about how people can be easily fooled into believing a picture is real when it is fake.

It means you need better evidence than just some easily faked photos. We have far better evidence for sunsets and volcanoes than flying saucers.
@wildchildsk Well it's one thing to believe there's live on other planets. It's another to think that life came to earth in spaceships. And yet another to believe that the photos we have are them.

I was wondering if you know of any better evidence that has been presented other than videos, photographs, and abduction stories. If there hasn't been better evidence than Michael Shermer is not attacking a straw man. A straw man fallacy would be presenting a position your opponent didn't have and then proving that wrong.
1) This is true, a lot of photos could actually be fake or misinterpreted.
2) This is irrelevant, because we also have a lot of videos which are much harder to fake in the same manner those pictures were faked.
The reason it's unlikely that UFO"s have visited us.
1) Alpha Centauri is the nearest star that may have habitable planets. It's 4.24 light years from us. That's 24,937,736,323,000 miles away. Traveling at 100,000 miles an hour it would take 28467.73 years for visitors to get here.
2) If someone travels this far, they're not coming to hide or say hello. Think what happened to the Native Americans, Africans, Indians and Australians when the Europeans landed.
Use a little logic.

He has never claimed to be a serious scientist and he is not just a UFO debunker. He is the publisher of Skeptic magazine. The name should give you a clue; he's a sceptic. He advocates not believing something because you want to, but because there is good evidence for it. A sceptic doesn't say that there are no aliens or UFOs. They say that there isn't sufficient evidence to believe that there are. I'm quite confident that life exists elsewhere in the universe but I'm just as confident that that life is not visiting us secretly and probing us in our sleep. Show me the evidence and I'll change my mind. I'm yet to see sufficiently convincing evidence though. I, too, am a sceptic.

He didn't try to make them look like fools, he showed how easy people can get fooled. The pictures look real, you can't see what it is. This shows that we CAN NOT take pictures like this as proof.
Also, I don't know where you got the idea that we already possess technology capable of cloaking objects to the naked eye. If you're talking about stealth bombers, they're only invisible to computers or radar. It'd be pretty dang hard to come up with something capable of bending the light around it at JUST the right frequencies to make it a appear invisible, let alone fitting a power source on something as small as a UFO capable of sustaining it.
What I love is the fact that the overwhelming majority of sightings take place in the USA and to a lesser extent in Western (+Australia) countries. Why would that part of the world population be so much more important or interesting than the rest?

Thats because you hear about it from english speaking sites. A lot of sightings in france, UK and russia. Look up Rendlesham Forest incident. Or Japan Airlines Flight 1628
Pilots have seen "mysterious things" before and upon more investigation have been found as natural phenomena. Even the best observers can be tricked and I din't say I was smarter than anyone.
Lol, no. Nothing like that. I am aware of the "Jar of Flowers", misrepresented by unskeptical dirt bags who interpreted it to be a grey, and it is exactly why I didn't add it in my videos. I went and looked, before making the assumption it had anything to do with the Alien grays (unlike most proponents in Ufology and A.A.T). On first glance, it looked nothing like a gray.
Some of the people in the video just refuse to be shown...but at least they're polite about it, unlike the authors of certain comments below.
This activity should be part of the curriculum for schoolchildren. They should be emphasizing critical thinking in education at all levels.
More importantly, the fact that its almost certain life exists elsewhere does not imply it is at all likely it has visited earth within the last 10,000 years
It's not certain life exists elsewhere. We can't conclude that based on only knowing that life exists on one planet.
(part2)My sister has seen things, parents of friends told me encounters in confidence, 2 friends of my father's, now retired from American AL (pilot) had a number of sightings while flying (ex-pilots as well(retired)).Try being an 8 yr. old and having a fab life after seeing one of these things.

strange coincidence...I saw something similar many years ago..(late '80s) at red river gorge.. daniel boone national forest. I thought the same thing...that perhaps it was a reflection. I was alone on the road at night and there was no other traffic for miles. alway puzzled me

This video/documentary isnt good for some reasons.
First of all, he simply left out the very important fact, that many of todays sightings also have radar confirmations. So, these sighting with radar confirmations simplu cant be a hubcap or something in a wire. Because they are traveling much faster then any fighter jet, can start and stop in mid air. Its a totally different way of flying and must be a different technology.
you could insert the ancient alien guy meme here. anything associated with the sky or eg the sun is an alien or a flying saucer. i remember this blurry picture of a hieroglyph on the internet that portrayed an alleged ''grey alien''. actually this ''grey'' was not even a supernatural being, it was a jar with flowers or something in it.

a story like this was covered by nat geo a few years back. it was bugs. it was pretty incredible to watch. but people kept on sayin it was chupacabra...pretty funny

Well, you have historical sightings and an odd photograph. Go back further and we have just reported sightings. Yes you can fake anything but there's too much, so much so that there's is the % that will be real. We don't go around looking up at the sky 24 hrs a everyday, in fact, we only register it as a marker and is on and in our periphery though it takes up a good chunk of our visual real estate.

"what i refer to is the writings done by the ancient people themselves." and what writings would they be? Where are they? Who says they are true? How were they determined to be true? Have they been published in a recognized manner? eg Peer reviewed by scientists.

I've seen 3 UFO's in my life. All fan- tastic. my then gf/now wife and i were @ the beach star gazing all night.we saw a red ball being trailed by 2 hi-speed aircraft. and nearly right above us the red ball increased it's speed by perhaps 10?x in a split second.

Where is the proof the foto is fake, I dont see it? Where is the credible photoexperts saying its a hoax? Where is the orginal, where can one find the original and with someone explaining how they concluded it was a fake?

there are real photos of ufos but none of them are flying saucers from another world--yet i wish this was not the case
@siyuanthesuper1 Actually the opposite is more likely true. In reality those pictures or videos which are TOO CLEAR (like B.Meiers' 1's)are more likely fakes. Try this experiment the next time you see a plane. Video-tape it. I promise you it will be blurry. This is a result of trying to image a high flying-far away object with normal camera optics.

It's all well and good to fake a *photograph*, but try the same with a verified video. Say, military or government films such as recordings from fighter jets. I'm sure some of those pilots (civilian and/or military) would be very relieved to know the things they've encountered were hubcaps or bullshit on strings. Wouldn't you think?
