I have a C6 Z06 and I absolutely love it. It's a perfect balance of handling, weight and power. I've never driven or been in a ZR1 although I would probably enjoy it more, too much money for me though ='(
Im a stock C6 owner. More power that I'll ever need.I wish I had the Grand Sport, but it wasn't available at the time. The wider body and 12 inch rear wheels make me jealous. Too bad money doesn't grow on trees.
Road and Track!!! this is one of the best videos you've done and the entire internet corvette community is digging this type of reporting!!!! Keep up the great work and thanks for your efforts! Wow!
@Buttnut105 I own a Z06, and I've owned a base C6. I can tell you the Z06 offers a substantial upgrade in performance. It's true that all C6's are the same basic architecture, but that doesn't mean they perform the same. There are a 1000 differences, some obvious, most not. An aluminum frame, magnesium engine cradle, beefier transmission, differential and axles, more powerful engine, different shocks, bushings, sway bars, spring rates, carbon fiber fenders, carbon fiber floor, etc.
ROAD & TRACK to me is the leading car magazine out there...no other mag. get's the stats correct as does R & T...they road test a car and get get much better figures then any of the others...that is why i subscribe to both the magazine and online video's..also, great video here of awesome ''vette's
@Jeffcatbuckeye Yeah the LS7 is an amazing engine. Keeping the engine naturally aspirated definitely has its upsides. No worrying about heat soak of turbos or supercharger in the case of the ZR1. I have personally seen some nasty Z06's before that just blow my mind. One in particular was a solid roller 440 LSX. Just a straight up monster!
@Jeffcatbuckeye I fully agree with that. The 440 LSX I was referring to was a drag car. A track car as you mentioned is definitely a power to weight oriented build. I mean look at Corvette Racing's GT2 cars! They make 485hp but weigh roughly 2,700lbs.
@GMguy91 Well said. The ZO6 displays the best of both worlds, but personally the ZR1 is the most versatile sports car in the market. Chevrolet really out did themselves.
Because it's just like any car with different trim levels? The ZR1 makes 638 horsepower and has a track tuned MR system that comes standard, better tires, a much more aggressive tune, different cam profile, plus all the other stuff I listed in my other comment (and more that I left out). You pay for the performance you get out of it. That's why it's more expensive.
@Buttnut105 That's where you're wrong. I know a lot about Corvettes and all of GM's LS series engines. I know that the LS9 is based off the same gen 4 casting design as the LS3. The internals are not the same, the cylinder heads are not the same, and it is equipped with a roots style eaton supercharger. I'm not an idiot. It has carbon fiber trim, much better brakes, and many other things that set it apart from the Grand Sport. Could go on... Don't tell me what I don't know.
@GMguy91 The problem is there are no high speed tracks in most places unless they are F1 Euro tracks. Nurburgring Nordschliefe is nice and all, but it's well documented it's nothing but a power and momentum track with high speeds. 90% of tracks are not that large or fast though. The Z06 is 505hp, lighter, and naturally aspirated. Even better you can boost the Z06 power even above the ZR1's power level and remain naturally aspirated. Mike Newlander's Vette is my type of vette.
I would easily pick the zr1 over the rest. Period. Its the utimate car. And the sound of that engine makes me melt everytime i hear it, Love the z06 but ima power type of guy. The faster the better.
Yep, having no roof gives me the heebeegeebees too. Can you imagine pushing a 530 hp Porsche Turbo S Cabriolet hard at the track? Takes nads the size of grapefruits!
@GMguy91 You can reliably get 630hp out of the LS7. On a track..to be quite frank, you have no need for over 700hp or so in a street car. Weight begins to be the focus at that point as you can only gain so much traction based upon power and on top of that maintaining a tractable powerband and reliability. I'd get the Z06, put it at 600-650hp, then gut the interior to get it around 2700lbs..or less. Power:weight=domination There may be more powerful...but they will always lose around a track.
@Buttnut105 Uhhh no it's not a pointless car. And you don't get 95% of the performance of a ZR1 in a Grand Sport lol. They simply said the Grand Sport is the best buy because of what you get for the price. The Z06 and ZR1 are on completely different levels than the two other trim levels. They gave the Z06 the edge here because of its more manageable power. In most cases, the ZR1 is the fastest Vette on the track too. I'm not a "fanboy", but i'm just saying.
so that there is as car for everyone like they said grand sport is an affordable way to go fast on the track and be good on the road the z06 is a street legal track car and the zr1 is a super car. GM sells a lot of each car which is all the better for there wallet
@GMguy91 No it's not. The Z06 is and always has been the fastest vette around the track. The ZR1 was an epic failure on the part of GM by creating a HEAVIER car with a forced induction engine...especially supercharged. The end result is shown here with the Z06 lapping faster because it is the better car over the overrated ZR1. For what it's worth, the Z06 also lapped around Laguna Seca faster than the ZR1 with the same driver in each tests. Z06>ZR1
I think the zr1 would be the better car than the zo6. Now of course both of those cars are not better than the C6.R race car. My point is zr1 (in my opinion) is the better car for track work and for the street too.
@Jeffcatbuckeye Damn man, chill out. I am aware of the performance of all the Corvette models. I love 'em lol. Take a look at my channel. The ZR1 is quicker on higher speed tracks with the same tires because of it's huge horsepower advantage. Not by alot, but it is. I can agree that the Z06 is a better track car though...no arguement there. If I had the money, i'd buy a Z06 w/ Z07 package. That's my dream car and I can agree that it is the best of the new Corvettes.
The corvette could have been a classic and a true supercar this year with the new ZR1. Unfortunately that JOKE of a interior ruined it. Colbat steering wheel, Cheap unsupportive seats, 1995 nav system, fake carbon fiber trim...the list goes on and on. Sorry but I expect more for $50,000 let alone $100,000 especially since The interior is where I will spend all my time.
i wish this video was longer :')
I have a C6 Z06 and I absolutely love it. It's a perfect balance of handling, weight and power. I've never driven or been in a ZR1 although I would probably enjoy it more, too much money for me though ='(
z06. big block power. tuneability of 7 liters. good handling light weight good balance. good job chevrolet i am proud of you.
Im a stock C6 owner. More power that I'll ever need.I wish I had the Grand Sport, but it wasn't available at the time. The wider body and 12 inch rear wheels make me jealous. Too bad money doesn't grow on trees.

Keep up the great work and thanks for your efforts! Wow!
as a C5 Z06 owner I would still go for the new Z06 over the ZR-1. Its just something about NA motor compared to SC. plus the money saved,
Got base model love it taking a slow step towards z06
I like how these were all 100th Annivs.

Great Review, I wish all your vid could be as engaging as this I mean it's definitely one of the best review I ever watched... Great work RT...
Because Handling... ZO6/ZO7.
Got no race track to wring out a ZR-1 properly, but a few back roads... not a problem.
@Jeffcatbuckeye Yeah the LS7 is an amazing engine. Keeping the engine naturally aspirated definitely has its upsides. No worrying about heat soak of turbos or supercharger in the case of the ZR1. Z06!
Why would you dislike this??
@jharrypot2004 yup, lol. Also his twin turbo 1000+ horsepower toronado. His C6RS is awesome, love those cars.
We were actually at Valley of Fire State Park the day they shot this!
@loudblazer Plus his C6 ZR1, which happens to be the first one ever sold.
@GMguy91 Well said. The ZO6 displays the best of both worlds, but personally the ZR1 is the most versatile sports car in the market. Chevrolet really out did themselves.
why all the different models? cant get it right
EXCELLENCE. God Bless AMERICA and Chevrolet Corvette.

The corvette doesn't need AWD. Its already a monster
Sorry 'reviewer' but the convertible Grand Sport does NOT have the Dry Sump LS3...
Jayzer Gapasin Only the manual coupe does
luv the way ppl describe it "the almighty zr1"
I would easily pick the zr1 over the rest. Period. Its the utimate car. And the sound of that engine makes me melt everytime i hear it, Love the z06 but ima power type of guy. The faster the better.
nice sound.the corvette is american power.great review
Yep, having no roof gives me the heebeegeebees too.
Can you imagine pushing a 530 hp Porsche Turbo S Cabriolet hard at the track?
Takes nads the size of grapefruits!
do you really need more then 505 hp....
How many aftermarket parts did you buy?
Nice vid!! nice car, love it.

@jharrypot2004 Ya, kinda wish he would have modded it, but I can kinda see why b/c its 001. oh well, lol.
i want a vette so bad .. cant wait untill im a marine and can afford one! haha
Z06!!!!!
@GMguy91 Precisely.
Still want a c6rs.
@jharrypot2004 lol, but having a high performance car isnt about having only what you need, splurge a little, lol.
@Mistasugafree, im at 600hp in my c5 and i want more! Lol
@Buttnut105 Uhhh no it's not a pointless car. And you don't get 95% of the performance of a ZR1 in a Grand Sport lol. C7 should have adaptive all wheel drive.
@NawafSS Well said
if only awd would be an option this would make it a killer
Got me a anniversary zr1 :)
@loudblazer Thats very true. Jay Leno sure loves the extra power. He put an LS7 in his C5 Z06 'cause his friends got the more powerful one. Lol
@loudblazer 505 is still more than enough. Lol
i am a true corvette lover an onwer. i was just saying the zr1 is a higher lvl of performce. is all
I have come down with a bad case of vette fever.
if any of you want to hear the latest info on the corvette c7 go check my channel out.
so that there is as car for everyone like they said grand sport is an affordable way to go fast on the track and be good on the road the z06 is a street legal track car and the zr1 is a super car. GM sells a lot of each car which is all the better for there wallet
@mistasugafree I bet Z06 owners that upgraded for the ZR1 would reply "uhhh, yaaaa" lol
@GMguy91 No it's not. The Z06 is and always has been the fastest vette around the track. I want em all!!! Lol
Best vid ever!
i'd never trust a car with that much power and no full roof. gotta be the Z06 or ZR1 for me... after i win the lotto of course.
@h4u123 Drag race would be nice , but really ? I'd say Vette in last place , GS , Z06 , and ZR1 winning :-) Unless someone misses a shift :-)
The zr1 has beat The zo6 in pretty much every course.. look it up..
Zo6

@h4u123 wtf, pointless since everyone knows who's gonna win. this is a review
no way man. it isnt a traditional corvette then
The corvette could have been a classic and a true supercar this year with the new ZR1. Unfortunately that JOKE of a interior ruined it. chevy
O
My stock 1997 Honda Civic is faster then that C6R.
i think your jealous, and stupid.
And my pecker is a foot long
your not in your right mind no stock Honda is faster than any corvette
ZR1 is actually lighter than the Z06 because of the carbon fiber glass that its made of
No its not
