I changed mine for the second time. I used the free service at 5k miles for both the oil and filter. Now I did the filter change again due to my 3 year ownership coming up in January, and my car will be in storage on my lift from now to spring. I talked to GM engineer at Carlisle, and he advised me to do it myself and safe the 1000k or forecast. You do everything, just like changing the filter. Right next to filter is the fill port. That's where the yellow "o" ring goes when put back in the plug. You drain the fluid and it will take out about 9 quarts out. So when buy the fluid just buy 10 quarts. The Trans takes about 12 quarts. But according to GM engineer doing the 3 year fluid change, no matter the mileage, just requires to drain the units and the remainder will stay in the Trans. You fill through that port until it's starts dripping out. Then run the car about 20 to 30 minutes and put more in if it will take more again when it starts flowing out. Then drive car for half an hour. This ensures air bubbles are broken and fluid flows completely through the Trans and your done! You should build a transfer pump from a lawn sprayer. Many videos are on UA-cam. Took me 3 hours to do the job. The pump won't be real fast, but works perfectly. Also the port has some obstruction you have move the tube around until it fits in to ensure it doesn't fall and drop fluid everywhere. Saves you along of money. Also Summit Racing websites sells both the filter and GM approved fluid at considerable lower pricing.😅
I just bought my c8 stingray, I’m not sure if the transmission filter was changed or not but watching your video gave me the knowledge to do it myself. Thank you for the video
Well done video … my c6 Z06 leaked from day one which GM couldn’t fix. One included a loose oil filter day after an oil change. They even tried to bill me for it. I eventually traded her in.
@ I purchased a 24 3LT convertible but I wanted a Z06. Couldn’t get an allocation but now they’re sitting on dealer lots. Stingray runs great and doesn’t leak 😉🤣
Glad it helped. I have another video showing an easy method for topping up the DCT fluid and I have another video explaining the DCT hydraulic flush os not needed. My local GM dealer is charging $1, 000 CND for this easy task.
Nice camera work done on this video. HOWEVER, there is more that GM does prior to changing the transmission fluid filter. The transmission is put into a rapid recirculation mode with all solenoids open to flush debris into the old filter. I agree with you and changed my engine oil and oil filter myself prior to the 7500 mile recommended first oil change. But I will leave the transmission filter and fluid change at the intervals recommended by GM to GM, as I do not have the electronic equipment necessary to do a proper job.
Okay - I just watched your video regarding what the GM engineers said about the transmission fluid flush and filter change. Very interesting and thank you!
Excellent video, I think taking the cap off is probably the toughest part.. I'll change mine when I get to the 7500 mark.. I have changed the oil, it's pretty easy.
I was thinking once you remove aluminum panel you could use a laser cutter to cut a hole under transmission filter, this way you don't have to remove all those bolts to replace transmission filter. Engine has a hole for filter why doesn't transmission filter , design flaw
Great video. I would like to just change the transmission fluid on my C8. I can easily drain all fluid from drain plug on pan. Can I measure what came out and add this (new) entire amount through the fill plug under the air box. I never seen a video where more than 2 quarts are added from the top under the air box. Thank you.
@Michael-k4n2r you can but if your wanting to add fluid from the top that os alot of work as tounhave to remove carpet liner and air box. Just drain and fill from the side fill until it starts dripping out
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. 👍 My 2020 Stingray which I purchased used January of 2024 is close to 12,000km and I'm considering doing this myself. But after reading some of the comments it sounds like you would actually suggest that at this point I should bring it to a dealership and have them do the entire flush and oil change as well. Also if I attempt this at home I will have to manage it with reversing the car up onto a set of ramps in my garage since I don't have an actual car lift. The ramps worked just fine for my engine oil change , but do you think they would be okay for this transmission service? . Or should I just bite the bullet and bring it back to the Alberta dealership (Competition Chevrolet Stony Plain) and have them do the entire job?
@vidman999 I think the C8 requires the DCT to be changed at 3 years regardless of mileage so if yours is close to 3 years, change the fluid and filter at Same time. It's an easy DIY but I'm planning to have the dealer do the service to safeguard future DCT warranty claims. If you are wanting to change just the filter you will have enough access by reversing onto ramps
@SerhansGarage yes I'm sure that enough time has elapsed now that it's transmission oil needs to be changed as well. And with looking at videos about jacking the car up on one side or all of the trouble that it takes to get around that air cleaner box, I'm starting to think that this is getting well beyond my DIY capabilities. I'll just have to get a grip on my paranoia and accept the fact that maybe they WILL actually do the job correctly at the dealership.🙄
Nice Video! Im going to cut an opening to access the DCT filter. Next time when u remove alum panel can you measure from center of oil filter to apex center of DCT filter? Thanks
Yes you should add 2 ounces IF you have not topped up DCT fluid before. If you already topped up before (for tracking g purposes) it's not needed to top up for the lost fluid. I added 1 quart of DCT fluid - I have another video on how I topped up the DCT fluid.
You replace the filter because the transmission is still 'breaking in'. Breaking in involves metal pieces fitting better to each other by shaving away material. This material ends up in the filter. Same for engine break in and why you should change your oil.
Good Video, Sucks that your lower piece is missing, Ya cant trust anyone with your car,.....Looking forward to the Trans fluid video, I'm really curious how to check the existing level, and how/when to add more.
Hello, I'm operating a Corvette c8 in Korea. my C8 currently driving a 2020 year. 41,000km, I replaced dct filter + mission oil at 30000km. I want to replace the dct filter because it's a replacement cycle, do I need to inject additional mission oil after replacing the filter? Or do I need to inject additional oil only when driving the track?
You don't need to add additional 2 quarts of DCT fluid after replacing the filter but you should add a little bit to replace the fluid lost when you remove the filter cover, it's about 0.6 ounces.
You didn't appear to do the DCT "flush procedure" that is supposed to be done before changing the DCT external filter. Or did you do it but know show it? If you didn't do it, you are not meeting the required maintenance procedures to maintain your warranty...
I am aware of the flush and I decided to wait till the Fall to have the dealer do the flush when the DCT fluid is due to be replaced at 3 years, regardless of mileage which I won't reach. The flush wasn't initially required but was added by GM so I can see why some are not aware of it. The DCT maintenance requirements on the C8 is the most confusing in the auto industry in my opinion. I addressed the flush in the description of the video but here it is: In this video I am replacing the Dual Clutch Transmission filter on my 2021 C8 Corvette. The filter will be replaced later this Fall when I hit the 3 year mark and I will have the dealership replace the filter and transmission fluid along with a filter flush. This is a simple DIY if you just want to change the filter and dont want the transmission flush before replacing the filter. For example, if you are well past the recommended mileage for the first DCT filter change, its not recommended to perform the transmission flush right before the DCT filter change as this may over clog the filter. This is temporary, until I have the transmission serviced by the dealer in the Fall but just wanted the peace of mind of having a new filter for the summer.
I subbed as soon as you mentioned distrust in dealerships. I've had horrible experiences with every dealership I've come across.
@Onedrank These dealerships are not as knowledgeable as people think - I prefer to research and take my time doing everything myself.

@@SerhansGarageyeah, I researched the flush and found it wasn’t necessary as well.. 👍🏽
@@Steveleanr yep, flush is only recommended at 7500miles
Glad you did this yourself. Thinks for sharing the inch pounds. Oil filter probably has some oil around the outside that dripped down.

Not needed but recommended to do according to C8 Engineers

Yes but changing the filter is a good thing
I’m wondering to do the same soon. Thanks for the guidance. Just a quick question. The race ramp heigt are 8” or 10”
@@bassilhallak Race ramps are 10" high
The good thing is they use an O-ring as opposed to a gasket so it’s kinda hard that it would ever leak
