Hey James. Nice going. Yesterday 30+ shorts before I got 2 keepers19"(3hrs.). Most days no keepers. One thing I do notice. As I catch the shorts they do begin to get larger. I heard you mention about the shrimp. Don't bother. Go with nuclear chicken 4" mullet instead. As far as teaser goes. Try 2 things for no tangle. Straight shank hook. Gamakatsu 3/0 bait holder. Also for your teaser loop. Go with a T-Knot. No tangles AT ALL. Tight Lines!
Thanks for the helpful tips! I wanted to use a baitholder hook on the teaser when i tied it up but realized i didn't have any so i grabbed a hook out of my freshwater bag lol, 3/0 senko wide gap hook. It worked but i def gotta swap it.
Not surprised if they close fluking for a season. Nothing but shorts. Someone had a 17” by port wash on Monday but nothing bigger than that. Nevertheless less they’re fun!
Def a lot of shorts out there. I'm thinking i might have to jig from the kayak for some keepers, maybe they holding more in the deeper water. Either way it's still fun catching them🎣
Definitely. Someone hauled a 5lb fluke well off shore while jigging, couldn’t believe it! In other news.. a little more south of us they’re catching mackerel off the shore too. Somethings up in the water! Tight lines always dude 🤘🏼
Saw a video here where a guy catches a 4 foot Barracuda he than rigs it to a #26/0 hook and 400 lb test(Just hooked it in the back) this is on a bridge down south, he catches a 600 lb grouper.. jumps in the water to revive the fish and it swims off ,story is true but how many of us when going fishing think to small? This year I'm going for eye opening ,Jaw dropping fish, big hooks big bait or lures Light action rods if I land a few great ,if i lose a few that's ok I just funny to watch people throw small baits get small fish and hope for the big one ..
I’m new to fishing. It looks like you had a high and low rig set up. I see at the top was a gulp and hook, your bottom was the buck tail, I know that had weight on it. Why didn’t you add a sinker to your rig. I have seen the set up like you did with the add of a sinker.
The lighter the jig the better. When I surf fish for fluke here in NJ the heaviest I use most of the time is a 1/2 ounce bucktail. You also wanna giv it a lot of action, you can jig rapidly or give it a couple jigs every like 3 sec or something.
James7796ify - what weight bucktail are you throwing? It sounds like it's def to heavy. AK Buckets is 100% correct, lighter is better. I usually use 1/2-3/4oz when fluking depending on the tide and currents.
James Schlick Outdoors mine is 1 Oz I think I’ll try the 1/2, I’m on the north shore of LI too I’ll give it a shot.. also what gulp and leader should I use. Still a novice here and you obviously get a lot of hits. Thanks in advance!
Get an assortment of jigs, you can go as light as 3/8 oz depending on conditions. From shore I use 15-30 lb fluoro depending if there’s a lot of blues around. If there’s blues around I would go up to 25-30. Any gulps will work. Swimming mullets and jerk shads are prob better for surf especially because of the smaller fluke and sea robins, blues, other fish. They will bite the tails off the bigger gulps a lot.
Oh no, he can't give away his secret spot. Not to experienced as he reels against the drag, thats smart. For the viewers. You want to catch the bigger fish, put a live killie on that yellow twister. 14:37
I find that with shore fishing, simpler rigs are better. especially if theres a good wind going. unless of course, youre dead sticking. also, isnt that rod a little heavy?
Does anyone know where this fishing spot is? I see he entered the L.I.E. at exit 61and headed west so that means that Port Jeff is out, and probably long beach and short beach are also out. I have searched google earth and cannot find where he is fishing.
@@jamesschlickoutdoors when do you think is the best time to start fishing for fluke in shore…. In the bays and surf casting on the beach? What are the best months? I live in Shirley Long Island btw by William Floyd. So from LI
Yoo I’m central LI as well would be cool to fish with you, at your spot do you fish more in a cove or more towards the sound. Had a few shorts on a north shore pier last week.

Is this port Jeff?
Awesome
Awesome video we should meet up I live right around there I could take you on my boat around there
Do you keep that bucktail dragging on the bottom? I have one it’s pretty heavy and just picks up seaweed I’m not sure I’m using it right haha.

This St. Croix rod is rated 1/2oz - 1 1/4oz so it didn't feel to heavy with what i was throwing, but a medium strength would be loads of fun
@@jamesschlickoutdoors yeah whenever i go for fluke i use a 9 foot light action. most dropoffs i fish are very close to shore.

Now lol. June is usually a good month to start trying by the inlets and bays. I like trying from the surf more mid summer like July and August.
@@jamesschlickoutdoors Appreciate the info
What size hook is that? (Gulp)
I think more people should keep the sea robins, their good eating and maybe there would be less of them if we kept more of them
Dude you don't get it throw out a 9inch rubber shad for that 30" fat flat.
Awesome video👍👍
Thanks man. How you been? Fluke biting good out your way?

I usually find myself fishing more towards the sound. But the back bays have their moments.
Which pier? I have some luck snapper fishing off the dock but I would be willing to privately share spots as well
Where in the north shore is this?
should have cut up the sea robin for strip bait,
What size bucktail where you using?
3/4oz spro
