Can You Catch Keeper Flounders Off the Beach?

  • (I apologize for that insulting title but I dont know what to title this) This is a video from last year that I never uploaded. Slow day on the beach turned into a decent but brief dusk bite where I got a few nibbles. Was deleting a lot of old footage and found this and figured I should put it up as maybe some will enjoy seeing that rat bass scurry through the retreating wave.. I shoulda caught that rat bass. I have only fluke fished the beach once this year, and it was yesterday… unfortunately there were hefty amounts of seaweed brought in by the northeast winds which made fishing close to impossible, and I caught 0 fluke. Did however catch aspanish mackerel, a small blue, and a small bass before the frustration of the seaweed sent me home. fair winds and calm seas my friends.

great video chris!!! I always enjoy watching a Pro go to work and do what they do best your a great angler!! I never ever targeted flounder I always thought they were too hard to catch..that all changed when I found your channel. I watched all of your videos over and over studied them and took a lot of notes and practiced your casting style, retrieve, and how you jig then put it all together and targeted them very late in the season last year. My first time out I bagged 5 fluke and so far this year I caught and released a minimum of 50 fish...All I can say now is THANK YOU !!!! for all you do...Tight Lines...

Around 3 weeks ago we went to Fort Tilden, next to Breezy point. Between midnight and 2 am, we had bites at least every 5 minutes. We got a 35 inch striper in the first 30 minutes of fishing, a 4 foot blacktip shark, sea robins. Oddly enough, no bluefish. Two weeks ago, same time, same tide conditions, and in 3 hours we had a few bites, and I pulled in two dogfish. Just wasn't happening.

Nico Miszczanczuk if the place you are fishing is a point (area of land that sticks off of the main land further into the water), if there’s a sandbar or if there are birds flying and/or diving. Finally if you see baitfish swimming it also means it’s probably a good place to fish.
