Very much
yvonne and plantytime need to replace luke and linus for a special.

Not sure if Yvonne would talk about stuff that interests the average WAN show viewer.
Linus's camera angle should be renamed to "Hot takes"

Quick question, how do you make the time stamps? Is there any plug in you use or do you just keep notes. Wanted to do something similar with a diff UA-camrs live streams.

I really wish Linus would have his classic socks and sandals look on the LTT store images.
Everyone else can be normal but, that's literally his trademark and I kinda miss it.
Wait what, he's wearing shoes on the LTT store website? How are they going to sell anything like that?

The NVIDIA open sourcing of the kernel modules of their drivers is an unequivocally good thing - there's no downside there at all.
But it's just a first step. An important first step - but it has to be followed through. In order to actually become this big win for usability (and that would actually be really huge) - this kernel module has to get upstreamed (i.e. get merged back into the official kernel repository) - and NVIDIA themselves admitted that it's not quite upstreamable yet, as long as it's only useful in combination with that closed-source userspace part of the drivers.
But if they were to open-source that userspace part as well... then this kernel module could be upstreamed, and that would be huge. A major step forward for gaming on Linux.
they need to allow us to also install the drivers on vms too for us that use vms i use them alot
@@billyhatcher643 if they get incorporated into the kernel, you won't have to.
Yeah it’s not like Nvidia will just work it needs to be built in Linux since it’s brand new
Yes it is because some folks did reverse engineering on the leak. They figured out a way to convince the driver to reset some counters so the mining of ethereum is not detected by the driver.
I'd love to see a video where graphics power is investigated over years past to now...but based on power use. How much have scores grown because they have just added power, rather than just advances in scaling. What are the fps against power limits (you could even do a Nvidia/Ati/AMD 'efficiency' statements to where we should be if true against where we actually are....ATi said 20% for 3yrs but scores were only 20% after the 3yrs but power grew 20%....suspicious for example) over the decades? EVERY video I've seen just points to FPS scores of older cards/modern cards but not a 'yes, it got this score and won the race by 3% but at X2 the power' would be helpful.
efficiency is certainly relevant but generally only compared within a single gen or b/w 2 consecutive gens of hardware... there are big challenges around power delivery and cooling that do constrain "just" adding more power. otherwise we'd already have 1kW cards and PCs would literally max out a standard US outlet during spikes.
@@GeekProdigyGuy Good points.... I was thinking more along the lines of 'advertising v reality' with a big emphasis on numbers too. i.e. If any graphics company says they have increased FPS by 20% then add 20% more power, is there any actual generational increase based on that? Has there really been such large increases due to technology in the cards or has it been a sustained FPS/Watt increase, has the reduction in die size been the real factor and the rest of the tech has added, features most definately, the 'technological leaps' they advertise. I'm just a curious boy hahahaha
2kliksphilip did a video on that not too long ago

On that Doctor Mike bit, I know many doctors who are pacifists. The whole point of being a doctor is to treat people no matter what. Doesn't mean that you can't do things like combat sports of have a weapon, but it's more prevalent with doctors.

Thanks for all these chapters 😍
I've been listening to the WAN show backwards going through the archives, and so I'm having that Merlin-esque moment at 36:10 of "Dan's first appearance on the show? That means no more Dan!"
I use to build data storage and processing servers and it was normal for each unit in a stack costing easily 20-30k at times for the larger companies. Some of the cards you were slotting were North of 5k each and there were some absurd systems.
If you want an idea on the cost of a datacenter project, a SFP can be 10-15k each and you have 48+ in one switch. And you might only have one switch per rack. We're not even talking the price of the switch or licenses...
A WAN on my birthday was just what i needed, my day was complete
Not even gonna lie, your birthday story with your wife is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard
I’ve been building PCs for over 20 years and always went for higher end components, but when 600W GPUs become normal, i‘m out.
This shit reminds me so badly of the AMD Bulldozer times, where all they could think of to improve was „Slap 12 more cores on it and raise the TDP by a 100W, that‘ll do it“. In times of amazing performance/Watt improvements like M1 and DLSS i refuse to putt a 1200W space heater in my Room.
Same, my house circuits can't even handle that much b/c I'll have to run an AC unit on it as well.
@@Dan-Simms move to a first world country dude XD
Why would you care so much about a 600w psu though? Like that's only 100-150w more than what most people are using now.
@@zwenkwiel816 It’s about double what an undervolted 3080 uses. The jump also is in a range where the most popular PSU ranges of 500-750W become obsolete. And it’s more or less the death of the currently blooming SFF scene. It’s more the general trend than the actual number. MOAR WATTS has always been a shitty way of „improving“ performance.
Certainly watching my 7yo grow up, it boggles the mind the stuff she can do with tech. This kid is fluent with touch pads/screen and I can't help but think back to when I was her age messing around with VHS and tapes. Like if we had a switch when I was a kid I'd have just looked at you confused and done something else.

Favorite Saturday morning cartoons. There is only two definitive answers to that: Ducktales and Gummy Bears (in case you now have that song in your head, you’re welcome)
yvonne's insight on the wan show was amazing. she should be on wan show a little more
The biggest thing about the NVIDIA open drivers is that they basically cheated by moving a bunch of stuff from the kernel module (that runs on the host system) to the signed firmware blob that runs on the card itself (the one that's still closed source and highly proprietary). Its likely all the juicy stuff (such as anything that NVIDIA will only allow on the far-more-expensive workstation cards and not on the consumer GPUs or anything to do with mining limiters) is now in that signed blob (where it can't be messed with).
I still have and use my iPod Classic 80GB from 15 years ago. Love it.
you know it's gonna be a good WAN show when Luke talks more than Linus in the first minute!
If you're gonna change camera angles, keep both people in view- I like seeing the reactions of the other.
It is refreshing to see more of the room on occasion though.
I'm shocked Nvidia didn't just add a line to their user agreement that says "You may only use this GPU for approved work loads" then stand around and say "Nope its impossible for these to be used for Mining, its right in the terms"
Do you honestly think the miners would listen? Unless if Nvidia had a way to remotely deactivate a GPU, they wouldn't be able to enforce it at all. And honestly I don't like the idea of Nvidia being able to remotely kill GPUs.
Damn, they finally showed this so early I missed it. 😂
So nice to see Yvonne join Linus at the end of this weeks WAN show
around 1:05:00. I’m a preschool teacher. I once jokingly said that children were very manipulative and one of my peers has been holding it over my head ever since. I had to explain that they are humans and humans are just naturally manipulative. we even have physical forms that reflect how manipulative we are (thumbs). And human beings will always follow the path of least resistance and that means exploits. always.
They are very manipulative, and you need to keep your guard up around them. School is, afterall largely about teching them to control their manipulation.
@@tams805 I wish i could give your comment a heart. It's so true and I'm honestly frustrated at how many of my peers don't get that and treat their students like they expect them to be already-socially-adjusted adults. I teach by role modelling, personally, rather than punishments and rewards.
I think a brick wall for power usage limits for desktop PCs is going to be the limits of US 15amp circuits. 1500w is about the limit, which is why space heaters top out there. Beyond that, you'd need to start splitting up the power from multiple circuits. Even at 1500w, that wouldn't include your monitor and any other peripherals. And to be clear, that doesn't just mean using a second outlet, unless that outlet is served by a different circuit/breaker.

The backlash against social network verification in the past was specifically real-name verification.
Two examples I remember:
- Vulnerable people who would be put in danger if forced to use their real name
- Trans people who had not yet been able to legally change their name, and would have to suffer seeing a name which does not represent them attached to their profile.
If Twitter attempts real-name verification then I suspect it will get the exact same backlash no matter who owns it at the time. However, if all they do is human verification (I am not a robot) then I suspect they will get support.

1:54 Loved that Linus seemed to make an effort not to call people stupid. XD You can say "misguided" if you are looking for a word next time.
You can do it with a smile so we know what you actually feel. That would even be pretty funny while still not insulting people. :)
he always makes sure he doesn't come off as mean
The problem with the premium Floatplane chat is that the free UA-cam chat just gets forgotten.
At this point the YT Chat is just talking to itself.
Thats the purpose of paid chat
Because anyone needs to see "It's finally here"
UA-cam chat it's just a worst experience for both the creator and viewer even compared to twitch. I get a lot of nausea seeing the upward movement
@@francotarazona4970 Not going to say YT chat is perfect, just noting that these split chats lead to entire chats being disregarded -> loss of engagement.
Trippin guys, the Clone Wars animated series is legit. It’s what actually made a Star Wars fan
I used to love listening to the wanshow but now it's 85% merch messages and 15% news stories. IDK some days it's cool hearing the answers but most days I just want deep dives into the news stories.
Gotta agree with Yvonne. The Star Wars prequels were better in most ways.
But they were let down by often atrocious scripts and bad direction. Being able to make the likes of Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Liam Neeson look like bad actors takes a special lack of talent.
Hot take: the animated Star Wars content is superior to the live action content. Having time for storytelling and character development makes a huge impact.
W stream like always
Just thinking about the mp3 device I had growing up. My Rio Karma was amazing back in the day and had loseless support. Absolutely brilliant for the price
playing with this pocket-knife *the hole show* gives linus a very strange psycho-touch.
pls stop doing that
Kicking Luke under the table is stupid when we can still see/deduce it. Just tell him to zip it or something.

I had an RCA Lyra as my first MP3 player Sophomore year, and I purchased a 1GB SD card to upgrade it, which was very expensive in 2005. Junior year, I got a Creative Zen Touch 8GB HDD player, which survived until I was in college. Then I had a ZUNE HD 64GB (I really miss that one). An MP3 player with a TEGRA processor... That was a beast. And it could sync over WiFi, and browse the internet. 🧐
its like a family having dinner but everyone is looking down at their devices
Miners destroyed PC gaming for many for 2 years solid. They can all burn. I still gamed, but paid far more for my cards. Many couldn't afford to.
Crypto crashing at the same time as the normal markets going down actually proves that it's not as decentralized as people want to claim.
That’s not what decentralized means. That’s not what any of this means! 😂
We're Finally FREE .. to tell you about our sponsor ... 😆
Love u guys !
I would love a "Gamelink" like channel. I love watching speed runs and how the newest number was met. Furthermore, I love new game news and game engine news coming out. I did not even know about what was happening in Blizzard before you brought it up.
My crypto portfolio is sad, but I told myself when I started I had to be willing to lose everything I put into it and I was in it for the long haul, so no day trading or anything like that. Hardly used it for purchases, but I did use it because I wanted to contribute to the currency’s velocity. Time to wait out the crash.
Nah dude, that shit ain't coming back
The difference between company stock and commodities, which is what crypto is used as despite the intention of being a currency, is that companies generate earnings. So long as they’re profitable, they HAVE to be worth more in the future. Commodities don’t generate earnings. They will only ever be worth what someone will pay for them.
I’m not telling you what to do, but I’m only ever investing in companies. Tech stocks are cheap right now, as everyone should know by now. That’s what I’m sticking with.
@The Rotten💯 It can come back 1,000 times, but it only takes one time of not doing that to wipe you out. It isn’t a profit-generating company. It doesn’t HAVE to go back up over time. It probably will. But it doesn’t mathematically have to.
