luke has the uncanny ability to be a friend and a honest employee. luke might be one of my favorite things to come out of ltt, seems like a hard worker and a level headed dude.
Could swear I just seen a thank-you from him here some 3 minutes ago, then I went to his channel (and left as he hasn't posted in 7 years) and came back to see he's gone. Well, if you're still around, thanks for being a good boy Luke :)
Yeah, I agree completely. I remember back when he left ltt I was pretty sad about it, but I'm really glad he carves his own path and still attends wan show. Be well Luke!😁
@@cyjanek7818 It's two different parts of the video. I believe the "think of your customer" was during the Android Auto discussion, and "people complained so I made it worse" was near the end referring to the backdrop crease.
@@anewbimproves5622 people love to have something to complain about, as long as it's something completely harmless giving people something to complain about is thinking of the customer.
I don’t know if you realise how important WAN show is. It may seem wild as it was originally supposed to have been a filler show, but it’s my favorite thing you guys make. The insight into the way this company works makes me feel like there is hope for the world and the people who want to make it better ❤ Never change
yup! Honestly, I think if they stopped making WAN (doubt it considering they both enjoy it so much) I'd probably not bother with their other videos any more. WAN just adds so much to them contextually directly or indirectly
I fell asleep listening to this episode since I was feeling pretty sick this night. I wake up hours later to linus talking about his grievances with android auto
Might have just been that sort of show lol, I watched on Twitch and fell asleep about 10 minutes after the preshow and woke up around the 3 hour mark here
As a heavy UA-cam user, it have been VERY apparent that the algorithm have changed a lot lately. There were months where it mostly just tried to serve old videos that I already watched. Home page was basically 60-70% red bars... Then suddenly it started suggesting new channels a lot, and I found several great new channels to watch. Now it seems to have gone back to suggesting old(5-10 years old) videos a lot, but now ones I haven’t already watched. EDIT: Oh, I completely forgot. Most recently it has started suddenly feeding me almost all playlists containing a video I have already watched. Like sometimes I refresh the home page and it is 90% playlists... Like right now out of the 12 first suggestions in Home, 9 are playlists of videos I already watched. 2 are videos marked as watched(red bar), and one is a really old video I did watch, but is not marked as watched... WTF...
The thing that bothers me the most is they changed the *search* algorithm. Searching for a video now gives you videos UA-cam thinks you want to watch (such as old liked videos), *not* videos matching the keywords you typed in.
Took me 5 minutes to find a video I wanted to watch today (ended up being this video ofc) because of the dog shit homepage experience. This video would’ve normally been at the top of my feed but I had to go find it on my own.
The weird thing for me is that UA-cam shows red bars on videos I never clicked on before. I have also been getting served videos that have less than a 1000 views. Never had that before.
I got 4 different suggestions for formula one racing, they were at the top of the home page, another couple for cricket, I have literally never seen videos about those things or ever been interested in them. It's quite odd
I was at work listening, having to pause to talk to patients but this lasted almost my whole shift. Thanks for that it made the night go by alot faster.
I started watching last night and realized if I watch it, I won't have anything to watch at work today so I waited lol. This is prime content to watch at work 👌🏽
Of course it is, it has been trained on every piece of text found on the internet, including teenagers' conversation on facebook & co. If you prompt it with something that looks like the beginning of an argument, it'll act like your average 16yo.
Although the 'Wheel of pain' is a great concept, I think the way the segment is currently done doesn't really explain to a viewer with lesser knowledge why the topic is a bad thing. I believe that something like a summary of why a topic is deemed 'indefensible' should always be provided during the segment to ensure viewers that lack the knowledge don't come away with only the BS defenses for it.
I think a minute of hole poking and then another minute of defense after the first 2 would make for some better defenses and yeah a little more discussion wouldn't be bad it's a fun way to spice up a topic but the core needs to still be there
@@dobber43 Yeah, I think if it is framed as a show down to see who does better then it could also be framed as having a minute of sabotage where the opponent gets to highlight the issues. I think they are already close to this with their intro to the topic itself I think it would be more fun to have them do a mini debate.
I'd be fine with WAN Show staying and even getting longer. I listen to you guys every Friday while working. Only difference with these longer shows, is that now I get to listen on the drive home, and while I'm home eating dinner xD
I love the parts of the wan show where Linus and Luke basically have a little business meeting and just talk about running the company. The business side of LTT is extremely interesting and i really love and appreciate hearing the CEO and his left hand man just talk about it. It's almost like a weekly board meeting or something but I'm here for it every time.
It's been a huge boon for me lately as I've started planning on beginning my own business. Even if they're vague or don't share specific details, which is smart and reasonable, it still gets me thinking. I usually end up writing down a handful of things to research or ideas for products/services/backend stuff like accounting or business structure... Just tons of stuff that sparks inspiration and thought. And it's way better and far more interesting than just watching videos on business because it's down-to-earth people with great personalities, sprinkling the topics among other interesting topics I enjoy, too! I love it!
Dude I am in the US and work at wages that tend to put people floating around a tax bracket. I can't count how many people that have come out of a meeting ranting about how the company tried to offer a raise that "wouldn't even amount to how much the new tax bracket would cost". These same people have eventually quit because I as a newer employee ended up making more because I didn't deny wage increases. Now going in to a new company as a leadership role I came in with an immediate explanation to how taxes work to my employees.
Only thing I will say to that is while a lot of people misunderstand tax brackets, government provided benefits do not always work the same way and making an extra $100 a month can sometimes net in an overall loss as you don't just get $100 less in benefits. That might be a legitimate reason to decline a raise.
There is Age restriction to cigarretes and alcohol, but a 5 year old can easily get something that will leave a mark on him/her for maybe 10 years. It is harmful, and scientifically as addictive as some drugs!!. Not having an ID control is like letting 10 years old's attend to stripper shows just because some 40 year's old didn't want someone at the door asking them to show their id, it's nuts not to have it!!!
@@davidmoncayo3845 To me, the problem is that the sites would need to track the IDs and be able to prove each one is valid, and link it to the traffic. If it isn't linked to the traffic in some way, they can't prove that the traffic is legal. Once this happens, a hacker could steal this information and use it for every reason you wouldn't want someone to have your ID. This is so much different than a real bouncer because a bouncer just looks at your ID and guesses whether it is valid or not. A computer would need to store all of the information on your ID somewhere. Also, this would be accomplishing the most difficult step in censoring or criminalizing online activity. Of course, there are crimes that can be committed online, but a fascist government could easily use this idea to suppress everything protected in the USA's first amendment. Freedom of speech, religion, petition, and assembly/protesting are important for everyone, regardless of political leaning. If everyone wanted the best for everyone else, this would not be abused, but we also wouldn't need this technology. The fact that you think this is needed is exactly why we need it gone.
@@emptywig I came to like him pretty quickly. The first video he was in, not so much, but then I saw he was a nerd about everything and kind of liked that. Then I saw his personality in the videos and just love his sense of humor.
The whole Bing section just makes me wonder if Bing is learning how to interact or discuss with people by reading social media. Like all those responses sound like something you'd find on Twitter
Despite being an old dude, I have the attention span of a two year old, so I’m just getting to the end of the show, there was plenty in this show that made me laugh, but when Luke started talking about how it takes him so much longer to recover from things, I really cracked up. I am probably close to double his age and I have bad news for him, it gets SO MUCH WORSE 😂😂😂
@@Sidowse You don't have to avoid anything if you don't want to. You just have to cut down on the amount. When I took my health more seriously 5 years ago I did cut down my caloric intake which did involve reducing my carb intake but that is because it is really easy to overeat them. I still eat my carbs everyday including man made items just not as many as I did before. I also bumped up my cardio. Slowly at first and then adding more as I got fitter. Its simple but not easy.
@@Sidowse diet plays some role, but it's not substantial. My parents, aunts and uncles range from 50-75 in age and they eat whatever they want and can do everything I can do. One of my uncles is in his 70s and still crawls around in the dirt changing the oil in their vehicles, and recently hand dug a trench in his yard to run a new gas line. Diet is important, the phrase "the American diet" is just ridiculous, but let's stop acting like a good diet is what's going to solve all problems. Taking care of your body by keeping active, doing something in your free time instead of sitting is the biggest difference maker I've seen in older people.
@@Sidowse so you (a non US citizen that doesn't live in the US) is telling me ( a US citizen that does live in the US) that you know more about our culture, lifestyles, and downfalls than I do? And your reasoning that you know more about it than me is because "word of mouth"? Come on my dude.
2:21:50 Someone in the chat suggested "Make Bing defend that" - This needs to be a thing for the wheel of pain! Linus, Luke, Dan, ChatGPT and Bing all get their own indefensible topic to defend.
Linus, your willingness to do things that are not *normal* makes your channel ever more interesting... there is a reason we come back time and time again. You dont have to be a by the numbers CEO.. doing so would remove your heart and soul from this channel.
I wholeheartedly agree, and I don't think the channel would ever have been as... successful? or maybe moreso... prized, as it is if he was that type. Sure, there is a lot of Yvonne to thank for the success, and obviously the team they've built of what seems to be genuinely passionate and talented individuals. Being a bit older than most of them, but having been a tech enthusiast for basically my entire life, and a fairly 'old-school' type, it's been quite a joy to see the way things like ethics / sustainability etc, still play such a big role in their business model. Can there have been mistakes along the way? ...sure. Does this sound parasocial? ...maybe, but it really does seem like a particular baton has been passed on and it's being carried rather splendidly.
I went to the New York Balistics lab as an intern at a prosecutors office. They let us watch someone shoot an automatic weapon from the other side of a soundproof door. Then the same weapon with a silencer and the door open. It was loud both times. The silencer did about the same as the door.
Honestly, WAN Show is the highlight of my week. (and Craft Computing's live show, after-show discord on Wednesdays) I love the long form, the insights, and the hilarity of it all.
I would NOT want Linus to step down. One of the main reasons I watch LTT is because of Linus's openness and honesty. If he was replaced by a more "traditional" CEO, it just wouldn't be the same. That being said, if you're ever feeling tired or burnt out and don't want to do it anymore, I completely understand and fully support you focusing on yourself and your family.
Why and how do I always end up waking up to WAN show every morning, I watch historic videos to go to sleep and the algorithm always lands me here by morning??
That Bing chat bot is wild lol. Some of the responses are pretty crazy but hopefully they use those to train it better instead of just shutting it down.
TBH all AI chat bots are basically fake news spreader right now... it's too confident and too much BS. Tech illiterate gen pop will basically take it as gospel if told it's ready and better than the traditional.
It's interesting about LMG Clips. I used to just watch those, but actually it's now morphed into me watching the whole Wan show recoding throughout a Saturday, and then watching the individual clips through the week. It's such a good show, and great to listen and learn. And it's just getting better. 👍
I find Clips to be a bit redundant for myself, since I do tend to watch the full show, but they are very handy for sharing a topic that was being discussed with others that wouldn't be the types to watch a 3 or 4 hour episode.
Yep similarly graduated a couple of months ago from clips only to the full show. I can have it playing in the background while I do things around the house on Friday night and or Saturday.
WAN Shows being long helps me from being insane at work.. Having a job that is not what you dont like is really tiring and doing things becomes very tedious but listening to WAN Show keeps me calm and sane while at the same time being informed and up to date with tech stuff. Thank you.
It will “literally” take all weekend to listen to? So assuming you only include Saturday and Sunday as a weekend 48 hours suddenly is equal to 4 hours?
@@techboy95 I only listen to wan while I do crap around the house. I had less than 4 hours worth of crap to do. So yes, it took me all weekend. Now go be a smartass elsewhere.
@@techboy95 Many of us have work and other responsibilities to do during the weekend. I know I do, I like to listen to it in little bits at a time over the whole weekend. Definitely makes it more bearable.
I've started watching this for some actual life advice. You guys are so insightful on most things that it makes it hard not understand the situations and advice.
It’s rare that I don’t skip the ad spot in any video on any channel. That and one video recently where the “story” leading into a video was embedded in the ad as a skit are the only times I went out of my way to not skip the ad.
This whole episode proves why a PR layer would be a bad thing, no way Luke would be able to call out Linus like this on stage at a keynote/presentation.
i know this is super late but i found it adorable that linus thinks that part of being a RealCompany™ is having work-life balance for your employees. That is admirable but you're pretty much the only company who cares about that, at least that's what my work experience has shown me. Most companies will say that they care about it but that only lasts until it affects the bottom line.
I bet Dan regrets being sassy in this one. I liked seeing him give Linus a hard time, but it was equally hilarious to see him randomly added to the Wheel of Pain. He's not going to forget that. Ever. LOL
I’m a old viewer of the Chanel and I really love the Grammarly advertisement it was a nice surprise and break of content in a very good and satisfactory way!!!!
It makes sense that bing is so hostile, it's basically a very advanced text prediction algorithm and these aggressive responses will be all over the training data. The internet is full of very upset rants and it's natural response to being accused of lying to or deceiving someone. I think that these chatbots are a lot less than people want them to be, they're an evolution of the way we use natural language to interact with computers, which makes sense, over time we've went from assembly to much more readable and natural programming languages. But they aren't artificial intelligence.
The WAN show is my Saturday morning staple. Always a topic or two that really into...others that arnt are still good listening. Bing was highly anticipated this edition
@@nscion7880 I started watching while I did my workout (ended up being about 2 hours today) then came home and watched the rest while multi-tasking. I've also played Minecraft while watching.
I'm honestly loving the longer shows! I hope it's something that can keep happening, because the kind of discussion Linus and Luke give is some of the most entertaining and informative on UA-cam, by far
BTW the dude that is now the CEO is the one who wanted to push NFTs onto the platform, a whole crypto bro AND he was the one that proposed the recent guideline changes + the removal of the dislikes. RIP youtube you will be missed.
The tax writeoff thing is actually more complicated than even "I still spent the money"; frequently when the giga-wealthy are donating billions of dollars for "tax deductions" it's to complement their fraudulent earnings reports and capital gains tax evasion tactics. If you have demonstrable assets so as to be able to secure a loan for a hundred million dollars, at a lower interest rate than would be the comparable income tax on earning that amount of money, you can spend that loan money for cheaper than you could spend liquidated assets. Everything is just min/max icing on the cake to fit as many dollars as you can into the pyramid they're gonna bury you in.
"You could just code harder..." in response to Luke defending hiring more staff to deliver more features almost made me spit out my soda! I know it was said in jest, but honestly, so many TPMs/Managers have absolutely no idea what they ask of coders sometimes 😀
All that negative talk is unsettling. That legitimately could set someone off that already is in the negative self talk loop and may promote someone to self harm.
Where is the part where Luke talks about opportunity an everything having opportunity cost. It was a very interesting thought and I want to write it down but I cant find it in this amazing 4 hour long WAN show. EDIT: I FOUND IT: 2:43:22 This is a transcription: Everything is at the cost of other opportunities. There's this saying: without sacrificing for your dreams your dreams become the sacrifice. This mentality thechnically applies to basically everything. If you descide to do any single thing that means that you're desciding to not do a range of other things. If you decide through that that oh now have decision paralysis and you dont do anything/ keep your options open. You'll still cut off options. By not doing things you cut off other options. #summarized# To every option there are positives and later you'll experience the maybe unforeseen benefits and downsides that it's self will come with other options.
100% with Linus on the tax write-off, but my insurance rates aren't going up because I use my insurance, but I do pay the deductible if I haven't paid extra for that to be 0. But I know it is the case for some insurance firms.
Hey, Linus, my missis is a pin maker and I wanted to add a couple of notes: 1) Add TWO pin posts at the back to prevent your pins from spinning - Luke had to correct the orientation of the pins already on camera and this is why. At the very least - offset the single pin post upward a bit so that gravity keeps the pin orientation correctly, though two posts is better for better security and to prevent spinning at all. 2) You could have made the fans actually spin within the frame - multi-layer moving enamel pins are a thing nowdays :)
To the last point of an all-day WAN-O-Thon and having guests, I'd love it if you could have Hank Green, CEO of Complexly and also host and creator of Sci Show, Crash Course and Vlogbrothers. My favourite thing about Wan Show is that even if I'm not a "watch every LTT video" subscriber, I have seen every Wan Show for a long time because of the business insider stuff. I always enjoy "how the sausage is made" type content, getting to peak behind the curtain, and seeing a conversation between two company YTers (I count that as 50+ employees, and both of you are way bigger than that). Hearing the different, perhaps opposing, opinions on that in this space would be fascinating.
In that video where you compared that essentially fashion keyboard and mouse to a gaming setup, the lab work that was done was amazing. Explained and taught a lot while really improving the review. I guarantee you gained views from that alone, therefore, the lab has in fact made money :) I'm rooting for it!
You have no idea how refreshing it was to hear you guys use the correct terminology (Magazines, suppressors, ect.) and see you try to dispel myths that many of your viewers probably believe about suppressors being like the movies. I would love if gun youtubers had a home on floatplane.

WTF...
well... I welcome those changes sometimes... but some videos are just basically BS, tho can't tell if it's just my content that I watch...
Perfect for my overnight shifts

Are we sure Bing going off the rails isn't just it accurately reflecting today's internet?
we gave it unrestricted access to the internet, why did we expect it to stay sane?
Of course it is, it has been trained on every piece of text found on the internet, including teenagers' conversation on facebook & co.
If you prompt it with something that looks like the beginning of an argument, it'll act like your average 16yo.
To think they did the Linus Roast to test the length of Floatplane's abilities. Now the WAN show leaves it for dust
Linus: "Dan, are you doing an ACCENT?"
Dan: *proceeds to ham the accent up to 11*
Although the 'Wheel of pain' is a great concept, I think the way the segment is currently done doesn't really explain to a viewer with lesser knowledge why the topic is a bad thing. I believe that something like a summary of why a topic is deemed 'indefensible' should always be provided during the segment to ensure viewers that lack the knowledge don't come away with only the BS defenses for it.
I think a minute of hole poking and then another minute of defense after the first 2 would make for some better defenses and yeah a little more discussion wouldn't be bad it's a fun way to spice up a topic but the core needs to still be there
I could personally do without the entire thing
I'd assume anyone who's watching a 4 hour tech news show of two geeks talking is going to google the topic if they are unfamiliar
Yep, needs both sides for it to work properly, even if they split up the next wheel topic later.
I love it!
Tuning in from Botswana here. I'm loving how long WAN show is. I wouldn't complain if it got longer.
Now going in to a new company as a leadership role I came in with an immediate explanation to how taxes work to my employees.
could you give an example with numbers to explain this because I straight up don't believe you.

@@dewd471 I'm aware but it seems like op isn't, unless I'm reading his message incorrectly.
edit: I'm reading it incorrectly lol
Only thing I will say to that is while a lot of people misunderstand tax brackets, government provided benefits do not always work the same way and making an extra $100 a month can sometimes net in an overall loss as you don't just get $100 less in benefits. That might be a legitimate reason to decline a raise.
Holy shit, Dan defending the ID law was absolutely gold 😂
There is Age restriction to cigarretes and alcohol, but a 5 year old can easily get something that will leave a mark on him/her for maybe 10 years. It is harmful, and scientifically as addictive as some drugs!!.
Not having an ID control is like letting 10 years old's attend to stripper shows just because some 40 year's old didn't want someone at the door asking them to show their id, it's nuts not to have it!!!
@@davidmoncayo3845 It is the job of the parent to police this, not the government. Hard disagree that this is needed.
@@davidmoncayo3845 Poe's law strikes again!
@Fenrir it's the job of the parent to make sure their 5 year old doesn't smoke but there's still laws against them from buying it too.
It's incredible to me that they haven't read superchats in over a year, and yet people still send them in.
Some people don't know they don't read them, some people just want to give them money, and the majority are just simply stupid.
Some people come in at random times too and don't always catch that disclaimer. They should pin a message about it in UA-cam chat tho

"What's your RoI?"
"Who gives a shit?"
Now, that's a novel approach. Could use some of that at our company.

@@shadyweaver Alright, thanks a lot!!
EDIT:
I FOUND IT: 2:43:22
This is a transcription:
Everything is at the cost of other opportunities.
But I know it is the case for some insurance firms.
can't wait for the show to hit 10 hours, lets gooooo!!!!
Luke you should hire QAs, you are definitely in the scale to have them.
There is a big difference between dev testing and actual QA.
Wan show is and has been my favorite show since it started all those years ago. Glad it’s been on the up and up in this last year as well
Hey, Linus, my missis is a pin maker and I wanted to add a couple of notes:
1) Add TWO pin posts at the back to prevent your pins from spinning - Luke had to correct the orientation of the pins already on camera and this is why.
Loving the longer wan shows
In that video where you compared that essentially fashion keyboard and mouse to a gaming setup, the lab work that was done was amazing. Explained and taught a lot while really improving the review. I guarantee you gained views from that alone, therefore, the lab has in fact made money :) I'm rooting for it!
THE RANDOM PINS is like getting a present, because it's a surprise what you get. Not about gambling
You have no idea how refreshing it was to hear you guys use the correct terminology (Magazines, suppressors, ect.) and see you try to dispel myths that many of your viewers probably believe about suppressors being like the movies. I would love if gun youtubers had a home on floatplane.
