I went out to do this today thinking it was going to be a 15-minute job. I quickly realized there was not enough clearance to get the coils out. That led to this video. While you were able to tear it down in 4-minutes, I'm looking at about an hour and a half start to finish, so I am going to put it off for today. Thanks for a great video though!
Yeah. And and successful artists are successful because they have the right brushes. Or a great restaurant has great food because the chef has great pans.
Thank you very much for the vid. I just got finished changing the plugs and coil boots on my 2011 prius. The dealer wanted $300 to do it. I bought 4 plugs and 4 boots on rock auto for $63+ and two hours of my time having never change plugs on this type of vehicle before. The only thing I can suggest if I may is after replacing the plugs and boots, start the car and make sure engine runs right before putting everything else back together. Thanks man, you saved me money!!!
@@medjoolmaker I don't see why you couldn't reuse the boots as long as there is no obvious signs of damage, cracks, etc. But, they're so cheap to replace I say might as well change them since you're going that far. You have to pull them out in order to get to the plugs anyway. I'm going from memory, but it was very easy to replace them, when you do one cylinder you'll see how self-explanatory it really is. Good luck.
It took me a total 2.5 hours to change mine yesterday. After that I know I can now do it in 20-30 minutes. It’s really easy. But I definitely can’t do it as fast as this guy.
You can definitely do it as fast only difference is he’s clearly familiar with the vehicle. If you bring me a late model vehicle I’m going to take my time as I see and learn the vehicle but give me a 92-00 Honda civic I’ll rip it apart with my eyes closed
I just did mine today thanks to these video I was able to do them pretty quickly. I not good with tools at all but I was able to do it in a hour and 4 beers hahaha
Awe darn I wanted to see you use the impact driver on the new plugs! Hehehe. Awesome video, it's shows just how comfortable you are working on engines.
This was spot on. Took me about 2hrs with regular breaks and it being 36 degrees outside. I used some blue painters tape to mark where those 13 or so screws came out. A lot of people have asked this, but replace all 4 spark plugs, and make sure you gap them. I think they're 1.0 to 1.1 spec.
Back doing this again on a second prius. I checked the gap on those spark plugs from the first time i did htis and all them were gapped properly- changing times
Absolute legend mate. I need to steel myself to do this job soon. You made it look easy. Seems like a crazy amount of work overall tho to replace some spark plugs! At least you wont need to do it to your car often
Wow. You made this look a lot less intimidating than other videos out there. I've got plugs, boots, and filters on the way from Rockauto. I was looking at a Ryobi 3/8 ratchet but didn't think about just using my cordless impact driver. I have a 2011 Prius that just hit 120K and the shop I use quoted me over $600 for the 120K service. I know about $400 of that was to change the spark plugs and boots.
@@Thinkeroutsidethebox Yeah most of it is labor cost. I had everything apart within about 20 minutes with my cordless impact driver. All said and done less than two hours for the job. $90ish for the plugs and boots.

Working on the side of the road near moving cars helps me set my fastest repair times… 😎 😉 🔧 Thank you for putting this video together. Truly s**t packaging on Toyota’s part, but the plugs are good for up to 100k miles if folks use the correct Laser Ir NGK/Denso plugs, so this is a rare excursion. About to go do a 2010 right meow…
From experience, go with ignition coils purchased at the dealer. I made the error of buying some online to save money & 2 years later I ended up spending hundreds of dollars to fix my car.
Hey brother, thanks for the videos... if by any chance you happen to do a timing belt kit for 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse non-turbo automatic you'll be a life saver. When I start the car you can hear a loud screeching however as the engine warms up the sound lowers but when I put it in drive it almost goes away completely. Another piece of info is when I get my ear close to the middle of the engine I can faintly hear a ticking (similar to when removing a spark plug). Originally while purchasing the car the guy told me it's just a water pump but the thing is I don't hear anything coming from the timing cover side. Appreciate any feedback
Repair shops are such a freakin rip off. You can spend a fraction of what a shop wants to charge you and end up with tools you can keep or resell in the end.
I have questions. Please we are trying to change Toyota Prius 2010 spark plugs. But when we are trying to remove out the hole old sparks. It's turning but not coming out. Please explain me what reason it is not coming out.
Wow, I just got a mental, mechanical, video explanation boner. This video is perfect for people with ADHD like me. I'm not a mechanic but I took apart a certain car in 20 minutes to get at the head gasket. The mechanic at NAPA said that, that was a mechanic's speed. I didn't go to college for a degree but I'm like an efficiency engineer. I wonder why it seems like the car is on the side of a major highway? I have those tools too accept for the deep socket 14mm and the magnet pole. This video is all I need in order to do it myself.
This is the best Prius spark plug removal video. To the point, fast, clear communication, and on the side of the road.
IKR! Cut and dry no fluff just the information and done in 5 minutes. If only all instructional videos were like this.
Bro, you're so fast that Prius owners are able to pull over to the side of the road and get their spark plugs changed. Nice 👍

How did you get the drivers side wiper off? It’s not at all easy on my 2013 Prius 3 like this guy does it.
@zizimugen4470 someone probably put it on too tight. Grab a breaker bar or a pipe to get extra leverage
Amazing how easy things can be when you have the right tools for the job.

Literally just an impact and a couple of sockets. Go get one if it would make life easier

Well done and thanks for making that so easy😅
This why Pruis spark plugs change cost about $500+ as the shop 😮😊
The coil packs are $80 each lmao they probably charge a grand or some crazy shit
