Great job dude
RIP Frank
Murphy made Spiritual Healing my favorite Death album and Cause of Death my favorite Obituary album. Such an amazing talent.
Absolutely!!! And "Spiritual healing" is my favorite album of all time!
Imo james was the only that could outplay chuck even though evil chuck had some serious chops
@@jacobgarcia2660 Andy LaRoque...
@@Trahzy James and Andy!!! yeah!!!!!!!
I'm sure most of you have listened to his first solo album, "Convergence", right? While not death metal, his guitar playing shines on that record.
Best thing that ever happened to Obituary
I was fortunate enough to be able to take lessons from James back in 1988. He was a fantastic teacher. Very patient but would call you out when he knew you were being lazy and slacking. I was stuck in a rut and he was able to unlock the door that led to my progress and understanding of the guitar just being unleashed. I couldn't take lessons from him for as long as I wanted, (as a youth got into some legal trouble) but during that time I did, I learned a ton. He can literally play anything from most beautiful passage you've ever heard to the most brutal. He would play new ideas that he had during our sessions and I am so happy that I got to listen to some of that stuff way back when. When he joined Death I was over the moon. James is solid as a person and as a player.
That’s cool man!
@@grantseibert3961 thanks bro! It was a fabulous time indeed!
James Murphy solos just hit differently
he got that Rick Rozz kind of touch on the floyd rose and that chuck attitude on solos + more fantasy
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Cause Of Death is my favourite Obituary album. That opening solo in the title track still gives me goosebumps.
agree with you, all time favorite album
At 4:07 cause of death solo from My top guitarist. Very emotional sound.
It's legendary man, the baddest solo I ever heard, it's perfect every note, it gets me every time I hear it
🔥🖤
Murphy is a fucking legend, easily top five all time, and nobody knows about him, I wish he had stayed in the band.
the opening for cause of death is the baddest solo ever, can't nobody touch that
Murphy wasn't supposed to stay on Obituary. Allen had problems and as soon as he got better he resumed his place and we know the rest...
@@shadow_of_the_bat3345 Yeah, shittest solos in death metal resumed, ruining what should have been one of the best death metal bands of all time...
@@mymodel6 I hate to say it but yeah I never did like Allen's solo style. Murphy really took their riffs and added another dimension of class on top.
@@leerv. It's not even a style, having a 'style' requires at least a modicum of talent, or enough to at least be able to choose what you play. He just makes a childish noise. He doesn't 'craft' a solo, he just plays whatever note is near his fingers, and when he's used all two of his ideas he just divebombs his way out of trouble. I'm shit by modern standards, but i was composing more musical solos than him when i was 12...
If you had this guy in your band you automatically had a solo / lead machine he’s an underrated legend for sure
Big reason why cause of death is their best album. Spiritual healing is my second favourite death album too
My order here is reversed, but the point remains the same :-)
I love chuck n I love James...I tell him regularly lol he laughs
harmony corruption, Spiritual healing, clandestine, the end complete
@@buffalodebill7986 Touche....
Cmon guys, the unsung hero of this unsung hero isn’t even on here? The Low album by Testament!
The Gathering also
Best Death Metal guitar player ever; Death, Obituary, Cancer, Disincarnate…everything he composed is PURE GOLD and pure feeling
So underrated. One of my favorite guitarists. I like also his work with Death and Cancer. He also played live with Agent Steel.
I did not know he played live with Agent Steel, amazing talent guy!!!!!
If you watch his recent episode on Cali Death Podcast, he talks about that tour with Agent Steel and the story is hilarious
He reminds me the melody of Chuck's solos.... James had a good teacher!!! Every band with James on the lead guitar is 💯 percent success indeed
I think Chuck and James learned from each other and ultimately became better players. It's a pity they never worked together again.
Chuck was 100% self taught and James was already a better guitarist than him when he joined Death...
I absolutely love Chuck and everything he did but he didn't teach James Murphy a damn thing when it comes to playing guitar. If anything, James made Chuck better.
@@frankwells7520 man you got no clue sorry...Chuck did not teach James anything...as Murphy was a better guitarist even back then..
He reminds me of the melody of Chuck's solos.... James had a good teacher!!! Chuck was never James' teacher!!! Either I misunderstood your sentence, or you just made up a story that pleases you!
@james murphy a huge influence to a lot of extreme metal guitar players..........me included! simply genius
Murph is the man!
December 1990 Brooklyn NY I was front in center to see the mighty Obituary along with James killing it I'm so glad I was there I remember it like it was yesterday one on my favorite shows of all time in my top 5 and I have seen plenty of shows and concerts goring back from 88 so its a great memory
Such a tasty player. James is the reason Cause Of Death is such a classick.🔥
4:07 easily the best solo on Cause of Death and James totally nails it!
This Guy is great talent ... Brutality and melody in solos... Best on the planet, sweepings 👌💪🔥
James Murphy..!!!!🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🇮🇩⚡️⚡️
incredible guitarist, amazing footage
Anyone else on here see them in Cork Ireland during that tour in Nancy Spain’s?
I still remember waiting outside the venue before the gig, when John started his sound check…..everyone went crazy.
Whatever JM touches turns to gold!
Murphy always the beast of solos.
Great artist
He is nuts, pure art! Thanks for this Supercut man
This is freakin treasure !!
B.C.Rich !!!
What a grandmaster!!
hide in shadow.... i cannot believe it!
@@Peplinsky it is true .
Car!
James Murphy + ObituarY .... 🤘☠️🤘 one of its kind!!! Hailz 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
James has worked some of my favorite albums. Spiritual Healing, Cause of Death, Death Shall Rise. Amazing musician
Thanks for a closer look of James, a true legend!
F-cking love James Murphy's playing🤘🔥🤘thank you for the super cut edition🎉👏
The best to ever do it in my opinion. ❤️💪🏻
I saw Obituary with James on guitar at the Country club in Reseda Ca. The security guy kicked his cord out right when he was going to start the intro solo on Cause of Death. James was pissed.
Murphy is for my part THE best of all. He is THE definition of dark, melancholy and dark solos specific to Death Metal! In addition it "bend, whammy, pinch harmonic, shred, sweep" always with the perfect mix! He's the boss and no wonder he's featured on so many Masterpiece CDs!
Super cool!!!
My favorite guitar player. Amazing!
what a fantastic video, thanks for putting this together. James Murprhy definitely one of my favourite all time guitarists - along with J Mascis and Chuck, James was probably one of the main reasons i first picked up a guitar back in the early '90s.
Check out the cool Morrison’s recording shirt at 00:23
James bringing out everything a bc rich warlock can take! Man he was good! I got to see both tours in ‘90. Great time to see solos in metal!!
Нереально круто!!! Талантливейщий гитарист ,браво Джеймс Мёрфи 👍👍👍👍 очень эмоциональные соло и всегда узнаваемый, фирменный подчерк Джеймса 💥💥💥
REALLY great job Leonardo!! Thank you so much!!
That reverse BC headstock Warlock with diamond inlays is just so pretty. Kramer was leading at the moment I believe for speed and BC was building reputation. George from Golden Earring also switched to BC, as did Slayer. My first 'good' guitar was a plywood warlock with a substitute floyd. Good memories!
This video reminds me that I wanted to play guitar like James Murphy when I was 16.
Awesome guitarist!! "But apparently he was difficult to get along with back in those days". That's just what's been written at least.
🖤🔥🔥🔥🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥🖤
Simplemente maravilloso, James es un guitarrista alucinante. Gracias por el video!
Went looking for James’s guitar playing in general and found this perfect vid , wonderful upload !!
I’m a kid of the 90s now this is what I’m talking about. Forget the grunge bs you hear about or the hardcore scene. Early 90s death metal can’t be touched. Great times great scene just dudes want to jam. Never got into fights at shows back then either. Got to see all of them.
Кстати. Лео, твоя подборка - вышка! !!
sin un buen guitarrista y sin un buen baterista no hay death metal tecnico de alta gama.
¡¡Sin Duda alguna el mejor Guitarrista Tecnico de Metal!!...✌😎
what a quality !!!!
Great guitar player
Cancer was a good band with James Murphy as well. He was everywhere. James Murphy and Trey Azagthoth are the best Death Metal guitarists ever.
💥 Awesome 💥
Que joya de video una locura este material
Это шедевр, такая техника
Wuoooo
Bestial compilado
Máquina demoledora
OBITUARY
Extremo brutal
savage
Obituary grają zajebiste solówki.
!!!😊
Where in LA is this? Country club in Reseda? I did see them there. I just can't recall the date.
Yea, the Country Club in Reseda Ca, Dec of 1990, tour with Sepultura and Sadus. They did 2 nights in a row. Abraxas, & Silent Scream opened the show with one other local band.
WE LOVE HIM IN UKRAINE !!!
OMG!!!!!! JESUS!!!!!!!!!❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹♥️♥️♥️💪💪💪💪❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dont use the Lords name in vain.

Omg :0!!!!
Hey I suppose you start on a good riff but what about my fantastic opening credit sequence? Also you stole 27,000 views from me! - the author of the footage -
Cheers for your work bro, captured a piece of history, but also don't be mad at this channel for putting this together for the janes murphy fan service 🙌
Even if you did shoot the footage, i don't think i've even read such a sad and pathetic comment on youtube ever before... What do you want? A fucking medal?
Death Metal journeyman. Dont know why he always changing band 😂
