The saddest thing is that RM said in his latest vlive that if he died one day, he would want forever rain to be played at his funeral. He added after that that theres no other song thats more him than forever rain. Im honestly really concerned for him.

I know this comment was from months ago, but nah, no need to worry. There's nothing wrong with being sad. In fact, it can feel really good, to be sad and cry and let it all out. It's healing. Well, except when it's because of major depressive disorder, when you can't get out of it. But that's a whole separate topic.
I think he meant there's no other song that he's been able to write that's more personal to who he is right now. The whole album has a somber mood to it. It's just what he needed to get out right now.
He seems to be on a big journey of self-exploration, which, at his age, he's right on time. That's what your 20's are all about. He just happens to be super famous while trying to do that. But, he has an outlet - his music. So, we're all kinda witnesses to it.
Anyways, my point is, I bet he's ok. Just expressing all the aspects of being human.
This song I can relate to on a personal level. He definitely managed to capture those moments in a song. It's not a moment of desperation it's a moment of relief. Like when you've been hiding your emotions or just haven't been able to Express them and then all of a sudden it all comes out and everything you couldn't figure out about whatever was making you feel this way it suddenly has an answer now you know how you feel which is better than not knowing because you were hiding it. Then in the end its relief like popping a giant pimple yeah it hurt a bit yeah it bled a little but now it's over and you're better for it.

I don't think he's necessarily sad, but instead he's saying that he doesn't have the luxury to indulge in feeling sad. That's why he says that he wishes someone else could cry for him. Another point I got from why he says that he wishes it would rain forever is that like, you know how cars slow down in the rain and people are forced to walk carefully and slowly instead of rushing? Or how sometimes events or work is cancelled because of the heavy rain? RM feels that the rain is like a momentary break for him, where instead of going about his idol duties he gets to just sit and enjoy the rain/ indulge in a moment of sadness, and that people are less concerned about him when it rains. Btw I think the word you were looking for in the end of the video is"melancholy", where you're not sad in the conventional way, but you're feeling kinda under the weather and moody for some reason. I think that's basically the whole vibe of the song

A part of me feels that what he is chained to is just his own expectations he puts for himself, his love for his work and dedication to people that depend on him that he constantly worries... He has talked about how the uglier sides of love, how to love is to constantly worry, to be responsible for, to put fragile and precious value on something. I like your use of the word melancholy... He has moved on from the desperation and frustration of feeling hopelessness and despair that littered RM, and is much more of a mature and delicate artist today, but he still wanted to create a mood playlist of sorts. The entire playlist revolves around this emotion of vague dissatisfaction, worry, fear, apathy, restlessness, loneliness, sadness.. but each song highlights a sort of contentment, embracing the ugly, finding beauty and passion in the mundane and the unique. There are elements of childlike wonder, nostalgia, appreciation and gratitude. He just... really likes rain, it means many different things to him at many different times, but at this moment, it let's him slow down his world, slow down time and feel kindred to the earth. He feels there is meaning to his melancholy, but he doesn't see it as necessarily a bad thing, and all of his emotions are tangled up in the rational introspective side of him as well, so the forever rain is just this blanket he happens to fantasize about.

On twitter yesterday someone had a translation fron bts fancafe that Namjoon had posted about rain a few years ago. It was really a great post that gives so much context to forever rain. One thing he said is music and rain are similar in that they both change depending on the listeners context. If your peaceful and calm forever rain is saying one thing, if your sad it speaks something else to you and rain often morphs the same way. Its this miraculous art installation that meets and speaks to you where your at.

Theory Time:
I think the rain actually refers to the fans/army. He does not feel lonely when the army are present around him and protect him from haters. But sometimes their love is overwhelming and he stops looking at the rain and instead looks down. If you notice there are seven shadows of RM when he looks at it so it means that he is once again reminded of his duty as the leader of BTS.
In the lyrics there is a line that says that he wonders if someone would embrace his weared out body. This shows us that even though the presence of fans makes him feel less lonely, he knows that it won't last forever and wants an individual to love him.
I don't know if this is right or wrong but this is what first came to my mind when I watched the video

I kind of thought that too. Especially since RM is known to use metaphors in his lyrics to explain or give a deeper meaning to the song. His lyrics always seem to be simple on the surface but actually have a much deeper meaning underneath. He's said before that he wants to write songs that people understand and can basically discover the many layers of the song the more they listen to it. That's the type of music he likes because he has a greater appreciation for a song that he gets/understands the more he listens and discovers different elements to the song.

My opinion: this is a moment of sadness. This is about being comfortable with his own solitude. We need to feel sadness as we feel love, we need to feel what we feel, embrace and indulge. Here, RM, calls rain his friend, a place where he is able to be comfortable sad and ironically this is something to be happy about (?!). He can cry in the rain, but no one will see his tears. He can walk on the rain and be invisible, bc no one is paying attention. The rains comes and greets by the windows, bringing a feeling of sadness and melancholy, remembering him to feel all the things he has to feel, even what we usually dislike to feel (like sadness). The rain is protector, a friend, a place of solitude, is about being comfortable and recognize the importance and the need to be yourself and feel yourself, even if your currently self is sad.

You see all the other people floating under their umbrellas but you see rm without an umbrella walking firmly on the ground, embracing his path of darkness i think it serves a metaphor that rm is talking about how he embraces the dark side of himself, he embraces the sadness and the loneliness that parodoxically comes when hes surrounded by so many fans and people constantly. i really admire rm for being honest and truthful about his own journey of self-love and battling constant loneliness and dark sides, he shows me its ok to be sad and to embrace that darker side of ourselves and i really appreciate that given how hard it is to be honest about things like that. thank u for ur interpretation dkdktv i really enjoyed that

The only way to get over emotions are to feel them! If you pent them up then they'll haunt you forever. It's sad that RM doesn't have time to process his emotions, but writing a song is a really good use of those emotions, let's hope his burden is a little lighter
i think Forever rain was written by Namjoon few yrs back and he is in a happier place now ..The success BTS has achieved so far has made him accept himself for who he is and learning to love himself more..

Y’all what if the lines “i’m still a hostage of life [...] up to i’m chained to something” maybe are him saying that he’s a hostage of this cruel life, being the dark side of the kpop industry and the fact that “i don’t live cuz i can’t die” is because he is not truly living as Kim Namjoon all the time and instead as RM of BTS, an idol. Thus, his façade of RM, a character that is constantly portrayed as happy and faultless cannot die because he is chained to the expectations and appearances that he must keep in order to work in the kpop industry. And THEREFORE, he cannot live and portray his truest emotions of sadness, because his outer happy appearance can’t die.

RM is the best Lyricist. and one of the reason why ARMYS love them so much is because BTS always writes a song that is related to their lives. WhAt they've been going through, how are they feeling, and what they should do. Im proud and glad I've known them. They completely changed my life through their music, the story of their lives and personality. RM being a leader of the group ia struggling so much but I know he is happy because he has 6 members who are always be with him. He is glad they are 7.
When he talked about rain covering him and allowing him to be sort of invisible when he's surrounded by people ("I wish it rains all day Cuz then people wouldn’t stare at me, yeah"), made me think about social anxiety, something he may face as a celebrity a lot, the fact that he's afraid of being in public, being surrounded by people, and not wanting to be looked at or seen by people, and, as someone who struggles with social anxiety, I really felt that line

i'm no rm but a while ago i truly felt what it's like to be too busy to allow yourself to be sad.... like there was so much work and stress piling on i just wanted to sit in a corner and cry or be emo for a few hours but i remember thinking "gurl ain't nobody got time for mental breakdowns get to work NOW" cause the next task needed to be accomplished xD it's.. not easy, but after you overcome it and see the results there is a sense of pride and bittersweet memories of those moments :D i hope that's the way namjoon feels too sometimes... but i worry that he doesn't cause his "busy periods" just never seem to end
