    Old school smart. Made me smile when I saw that. Flashbacks to simpler days. I did the extra ground like other videos posted. Worked perfectly for about 6 months. Then kaput. Tried cleaning the ground wire relocated a little closer to the starter. Checked and double checked all fuses. Nothing. Watched this fine gentlemen, said haven't seen od done that in awhile. Used a screwdriver to cross the power terminal to the solenoid while the wife turned the key. Started right up. Went to the auto parts store bought 15' x 12 gauge wire, some electrical connectors, a push auxiliary button, a wire with 30 amp fuse. Drilled a couple holes and it started right up.
    Thank you sir and good luck to the rest of you.

    That video was in 2019, It's now Jan 2021 , my son tells me that he had to use the emergency button 1 time. Since then, the car overheated once on the freeway and it caused a head gasket leak allowing exhaust to get into the coolant. One cylinder has very little compression and now its a struggle to get it up to 60. Also the exhaust manifold cracked and fumes can get into the cab. I still drive it occasionally with the windows open but Its time to have it hauled to the junk yard.

    The electronic cord that plugs into the starter gets loose or the cord get a short in it after a while.

    Hi Andy ! Do you know what size guage used for the positive cable? I need a new terminal to connect my battery. Thank you ! Don't know if it is a 4 or a 6.

    What guage wire did you use or where did you get the wire? I plan on using the same type of idea, but install a relay to disable it unless the car's accessory switch is on. Also hide the switch in the drinks glove box.

    Hey man great video! Do u think a Dodge Journey is a good first car? I’m 19 right now and looking to buy a Dodge Journey. Is it a reliable car?

    • @amolter2002

      For a first car, I recommend cars that you can easily get parts at low cost and that most average local mechanics know how to work on. I recommend GM ,Ford, Chrysler, toyota, honda. Don't buy fancy models with fancy electronics. The Dodge journey I think is safer because its larger. My 4 cylinder model is has 235k miles on it. Its kinda slow. A good rule of thumb when buying a used cars is "you get what you pay for". If the 'check engine' light is on buy yourself a cheap "code reader' so you can see what it means. You can ignore some codes related to emissions (depending on which state you live in) . .

    Hello Andy, I want this done to my car, I am a young woman and I know nothing about cars. Could you please list the parts used. I read you believe you used (12 gauge 20 amp wire). What rating/brand etc. did you use for the switch and fuse link? Thank-you for sharing this simple fix, I was beginning to feel the issue was hopeless. I just bought the car and it has been giving me many headaches with not starting. I am scared to drive it for fear I will be stranded somewhere in the dead of winter. I'll find someone to try this fix for me. Thanks again.

      Greetings cjsparkle100, The wire I pulled from some old 20 amp house wire that I used to wire my kitchen, I pulled the black strand out of it. The 'fuse link' I bought at Walmart in the automotive electronics section, the push-button switch I bought at O'rielles auto parts. I can't remember the brand name.
      Be sure the shifter is in Park and key fob 'ON' when using the 'Emergency Starter Button' . Best of luck to you.

    How did you shift to neutral with the car being off?

    • @UnderMan
      @UnderMan 4 роки тому

      Turn the key to the on/run position, the transmission will unlock.

    • @UnderMan
      @UnderMan 4 роки тому

      It could stay in park with this guy's method. The neutral safety lock is bypassed. All safety locks are bypassed. The starter will function regardless of gear. Don't try to start it if it's in any other gear than park or neutral. The car can lurch.
