Jessi, I admire you because I sincerely appreciate people who wholeheartedly embrace their passions and encourage them, unapologetically. You are doing amazing work - thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you! Never apologize for being passionate about something. Our passion is what makes each of us unique and and full of awesome!
That looks like a mix breed between a deer, bunny, and a kangaroo
Deerbunny!
That's what I was thinking
Deerrat actually :)
More like a guinea pig rabbit hybrid!
He's like a bunny dog! I'm interested to see the enclosure once it is finished.
The way Chili Pepper sits next to you in the kitchen reminds me of our dogs begging for scraps - even the hesitant little forepaw motions like, "hey, hey, can I get some of that?"
This is why you don't feed your pets scraps.
Aww, and the ending was super cute.
...indescribably cute Cavy ! And...lucky owner !
I swear, every episode on this channel just makes me all of the happy.
Rodents of unusual size.
nadiact1000 I don't think they exist
Hahaha, not that big thank goodness.
what a pretty deer-rabbit!
Cavies are my favorite animals and I love rodents in general. Thanks for sharing this loveliness. ☺️🌸🌱🐹
HE'S SO CUTE! Also, that was an amazing end to the episode.
Jessi, this guy is adorable! Your videos are totally fun to watch, your quirks are amusing and delightful!
I can't get over how cute he is X3
I like hearing all the facts and figures. Since many of the animals you show us are creatures I'll never see for myself, I like having a frame of reference for what they're really like. For example, I would never have guessed that beavers were so big! Or that porcupines were that heavy.
I love that your priority was the animal running at the end and not the video...you are awesome.
I love watching guinea pigs eat; the way the food disappears, side-to-side is hysterical :)
Lol at the cinnamon green cheek climbing on Pepper!
The intro is seriously awesome. I love cartoon!Jessi's facial expressions.
This guy is my favorite of all the animals you have.
When pepper was a baby, she/he kind of looked like a rabbit or a bunny
Aww he's so adorable! Fun video :-)
I get so happy when I see new AW videos!
i just happened across your site. i have pet rats and a chinchilla. you are delightful to listen to and your enthusiasm is wonderful. i love animals and have subscribed to your site to learn more. thank you for doing what you do to care for and protect animals.
I love watching you enthusiasm and passion about animals. It inspires me to be more enthusiastic and passionate about things I do and love.
I love how happy the animals make you, it really brightens my day :)
I'm glad I stuck around for the very end. :D
He is really cute.
I like that so many animals get to live together at animal wonders unlike so many zoos I have seen were like one to three different animals share one cage.
crowlovescore I've never been to a zoo that didn't simulate a natural environment. I thought cages were a thing of the past and only existed in cartoons anymore.
That being said, I've only ever been to two zoos.
Awww, what a sweet creature.
so cute thanks so much to explain everything about your awesome animals and thanks so much to keep them safe daily.
"Ah, SORRY, gotta go now mom!" He's cute. When he stood up at your side you sure can see how large he is.
Awesome video. I have two Patagonian Maras and was looking for other people who had some. You don't see too much information on them. I love mine- they're so sweet. Here's a video I took of them with my dog a few days ago. Patagonian Maras Groom Rescued Dog To Sleep
Jessi, what a wonderful job you have ! Your love and compassion for these beautiful creatures is delightful . I have always thought that porcupines weren't very intelligent and quiet but thanks to you and Kemposabe Ihave descovered what delightful animals they are
Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new and interesting. Thank you so much.
I feel like he'd be fun to hug.
How cute!
I love the ending😂😂❤️
Adorable!!
He looks very similar to a capybara ✨ and also a deer lol ✨
Chilly Pepper's face reminds me a bit of a capybara because of the angle of their face, although his eyes are huge! c:
Great video! I'm glad you guys are expanding and making the habitats more at home for the animals :)
I love what you two do. Awesome.
Reality is a dream and dreams are reality in your rescue shelter, I would LOOOOVE to work there!
Love the presenter's excitement.
SO CUTE!!!
Love the ending, haha!
so that's like a rabbit-dog-goat-horse. It's so cute haha. Thx for the awesome vid(s), I didn't even know these existed!
Love this channel! Keep up the great work!
Jessi, you are so frikin awesome.
Love the outtakes!
This was really cool, I cannot believe he can run 30 miles, that was much faster than I thought he could.
soooo cuuuute
Been away from regular internet access for a while. Neat intro! Okay, going to go catch up on all your videos now.
This was awesome. I'm an animal lover and I did not know about the Cavy. I knew about the capybara and several of the rodent species. Awesome video. Totally subscribing to the channel.
I adore Patagonian Maras thank you for sharing him with us he is absolutely stunning. I call them Mara because that was what I learnt first at our local zoo. (Marwell Zoo!)
It looks like a wallaby except with 4 legs
Definitely one of my new favourite channels on youtube!! So cute!! :D
How precious.
My bird gave this two toes up (mostly because he was carrying on a convo with the birds in the background towards the end.)
I have two cats. One's called Chili (a red cat) and one Pepper (black with a couple sandy/blonde spots, basically like pepper)
Thanks for sharing! Cool stuff
Adorable! I've never heard of this species before, but this was such an informative video :)
Aww chili pepper looked like a bunny when he was a baby.
that is adorable!!!
Great video! Keep 'em coming.
Wish I could just like this entire channel! Love it, its so educational and sweet, thanks for making videos! =D
hes like... a dog and guineapig mixed hahaha so cute
Thing i found awesome about cavidaes (is that how I should say it?) is how diverse their behavior is, both across and among species. Got two Guinea Pigs, and while both can be skittish, one is territorial, prone to biting, not very playful and - to my surprise - not fond of cuddling with his peers; Meanwhile the other is docile, active and tries her best to get alone with the grumpy old dude.
Seeing the Mara is quite interesting. I mean, it is a rodent, with antilope foraging behavior and rabbit-like movement patterns. Not only that, but it seems more prone to trust humans than either of the former, despite living in an environment with almost zero human activity.
im so happy they upload more often now :D
I love the outtakes! Hahahahaha!
so cute
Chili pepper so far is my fav he reminds me of my bunny same colors
Hi Jesse, I have a question please, i saw you brought a Leopard Gecko on to Sci Show Talk the other day, you didn't give much info on them and i was wondering as an owner of a gorgeous little female named Smaug, if you have any enrichment ideas for her. I asked at Bristol Zoo UK where i do volunteer work but they said as a lizard they're pretty hard to find decent forms of enrichment.. Any ideas you have would be great. Keep up the hard work you do and thanks.
The two best types of enrichment for reptiles are enclosure design and food. Giving varied types of "furniture" for them to explore and experience will always be stimulating. I would suggest cactus wood, solid wood, smooth and rough rocks, plastic leaves/trees, and anything else non-natural an non-harmful. Like: legos, cups, toys, etc. For food you can vary their diet by offering: crickets, mealworms, wax worms, and small cockroaches. You can put the live prey in different places in their enclosure.
Another type of enrichment would be simple handling.
p.s. Love his name!
+Skip Swiftly also live insects are great, I used to do this with my bearded dragons, you can catch many months etc and throw them into the enclosure and geckos and lizards love chasing and catching their food and you also get great behaviors, like them trying to sneak up behind the insects, also try and use different smells, best enrichment are the ones that allow them to use natural behaviors
So pretty!
I'm from Patagonia Argentina. They are Maras.
Guinea pigs are also called Cavies so honestly I think of them when you say it lol
So cute! I hope I meet one someday!
OMG he's so cute!! I'm a huge rodent lover. My BF and I have Degus, and love them tons.
My fave is him!
This is what I want to do. I want to do this job.
you can volunteer at animal rehabilitation facilities near you
Yeah I would love to but there aren't any within a couple hours of me. I volunteer with a shelter though and I LOVE doing that! I would really love to eventually get paid for something like this. :)
Same here, I would love for her to do a video on how she got it, where she went to school ect.
I don't remember where I heard this (probably on one of their older videos), but I know that she went to a two year technical school specifically for animal handling and that is where she met her husband or something
Coundn't find the video is was thinking of (maybe it was a SciShow??), but i found this page on their website www.animalwonders.org/jessi-knudsen.html
he might be my favorite animal here maybe
It's funny that both times Jessi mentions "jumping 6 feet in the air", Chili Pepper becomes alert and turns around (first time) and even starts running off (second time).
It's like he heard me!
At Christmas time that thing would have to wear the reindeer antler headband thing people put on dogs. Just long enough for one picture so I could make a postcard out of it.
OHMYGOD IM WATCHING THIS WITH MY GUINEA PIGS BESIDE ME AND IM FREAKING OUT OVER PATCHES !!
I think Mara is just a British thing, i saw my first Cavy/Mara at ZSL London Zoo and they had them labelled as Mara. By the way that was a great little paddock they had, it was a long, slightly inclined and terraced stretch of land about the size of a football field (US) and it was filled with scrub and things pretty much to replicate a Mara's among other species natural habitat :)
That's a funny looking dog
That rabbit looks starved! Feed it more
Loved the video. Pepper reminds me of a kangaroo. This is my first time to your channel, but not my last. Thank you.
Nicely done
I live in Brazil, really close to the Pantanal, like half a day trip in car, in the capital of my state and here we have lots of capybaras, if you know where to look - just go to the federal university or the biggest park in the city - they are really cute when cubs, like really cute, but once they grow up not much, but is amusing to see they swimming or running... Like really they are kinda of fat, but they ran fast! And all they do all day in to eat and swim and eat and swim...
Hey Jesse what would be a good tip on trying to help a 4 month old patagonian cavy not be so scared and be confortable Being picked up or held plz replay and thank you.
good gracious i didn't know beavers got that big...
Great episode. Love your jacket, too. Really suits you.
Seeing Chili Pepper again made me think. In Alberta, I remember seeing what looked like a rabbit, but it was much bigger. What type of lepines get quite big?
Awesome Job keep up the spectacular work!! ^
Great vid!
I would say a cavy is any member of the Caviidae, such as capybaras, yellow-toothed cavies (galeas), guinea pigs, mountain cavies, rock cavies and maras; whereas a Mara is specifically a member of the genus Dolichotis.
Mara is the word used by the country or origin's people. Since they have the oldest association with the animal it's probably the most authentic name.
I always watch these videos filled with envy... I would love a job such as yours! I guess I have to settle for awesome videos for now...
Patches eating is so cute
Hey Jessi. My guinea pig recently passed away and i'm looking for a new snuggle buddy. i have fell in Love with these Maras! I found out about them when i was looking at the guinea pig page in my animal encyclopedia, and automatically fell in love with these cute long legged babies! But, i don't think it's possible for me to ever get one, seeing as i live in NC, and there just isn't Really a lot of information out on the web on how to take care of them! I am Trying to gather all the information i would need, but i'm afraid there Just Isn't enough to Properly take care of one. if you or Anyone could answer a few questions i would be Forever Great-full!
~Questions~
1-I heard you mention Guinea pig pellets, So if i fed them guinea pig pellets, carrots, lettuce and things like that, and of course water, would she Or he, be healthy?
2-Does anyone sell Maras? Is that a thing? Has anyone ever seen a Mara for sale? or should i just give up?
3-How big should her or his cage be? if i can a normal guinea pig cage for her or he to sleep in, would that be big enough? and, Is it safe for a Mara to rome a house? At least as safe as it would be for a rabbit to rome? Are they mischievous?
4-Any tips or guide lines for having a Pet Mara???
-Thanks a Million times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :3
Forgot to put in Hay, and what kinds of hay are Safe for them? temothy hay work ok?
Pepper looks like a kangaroo crossed with a deer!
Rhynchocoela I was thinking closer to a wallaby with the size lol
