Aw, I love possums. They're such unique animals. America's only marsupials, with the ability to play dead. I know most people think they're ugly but I think they're cute.
Such fangs he has! I don't remember seeing fangs like those on Ophelia. Is that a male vs. female thing in opossums generally, or does she have them and they're just less prominent?
Yes, males are larger and have larger canines relative to their size. Plus Ophelia is extremely old for an opossum, so there may be some wearing down of the teeth. Inky here seems to be quite young. I'd guess around 9 or 10 months at most. I get to see a lot of these little friends here in rural TN.
Look at those vampire fangs! Maybe Ophelia's teeth are a bit worn down, on account of her being an old lady by opossum standards, because I swear hers aren't as noticeable.
Inky's teeth are definitely bigger! In general, males of this species tend to have longer canines than females. Most likely for confrontations with other males during breeding season.
Amazing how much the reduced ears and no tail can change the overall appearance of an opposum; he looks like a funny little badger who washed off his stripes! >u
What a charming fellow he is! Such a great smile too. My brother stopped by as I was watching this and watched for a minute or so, and then suddenly - "Wait, is that an OPOSSUM??" We've seen plenty of them in the wild, they're quite common in our area of course, but well - none of the wild ones are that CUTE! He's a lucky little guy to have landed at Animal Wonders, he will get the best love and care with y'all! Welcome, Inky!!!
Inky is so cute!! I'm so glad he came to you, and thank you so much for taking such incredible care of him and all your animals!! Also, thank you for helping to dispel the negative stereotypes toward opossums! These are wonderful and very important animals, and they really don't deserve the bad rep they get
Inky is so cute! Your videos are so inspiring and educational and fun and because of you when I am older I want to start my own business just like yours. I would join but I live on the other side of the world.
He is so so cute! I’m from Europe so I only learned about opossums in the last few years. I think his tail is a good educational opportunity to normalize disability!🥰
Wonderful job and glad you got him! I used to see one full grown at a pet place in Jersey, and it loved Dubia roaches!!….beautiful hair too!! Good luck inky!!❤️❤️
There is an opossum who frequently visits me and I see his cute little face through the glass in my security door! I feed feral cats on my patio and I think he enjoys eating some of their wet food and some of their food! He is a wild animal so I don't handle him and I don't go out when he is on the patio! He has the most adorable face! imo!😊😊
I love that even possums show so many differences between each other - they have one of the smallest brain/body ratio of all mammals, but they are very ancient species. Possums were on earth 60 000 000 years ago or even before! And they also do not have corpus calosum in their brains, which is also pretty weird and unique. And yet this small-brained plushie still can show so much personality and even form a bond with a human, I love the fact they are not that "dumb" but can play with toys or like to be scratched by their human caretakers. What a lovely creatures.
@@animalwondersmontana I figured such would be the case, given how much he was moving around already. But i'm so happy you can accommodate these two special opossums and give them a happy life
@@animalwondersmontana you could still try giving them 'used' blankets with the others sent on them for enrichment. the species is quite scent focused as i recall.
I wonder about maybe some wall shelves like the chinchillas, but with tall walls on the ramps. Maybe with some cutout windows (with plexiglass or smth) :)
@@char1211The people I know, think that they are vicious, rabies infected, zombie rats, that will bite anything that moves. Lol just kidding. Seriously though, most people I know are so scared of opossums for whatever reasons. I feed 3 opossums at night. I try to get alittle closer to them but they take off before I get a chance to open the patio door.
Opossums are not generally looked upon kindly by lots of people. I've had several encounters with them but I've always found them intriguing. The latest was on my patio when I surprised a large opossum raiding my woodpecker feeder which I had filled with peanut dough. So I started bringing that feeder in at night. Problem solved. A really sad thing about opossums is that they don't have very long lifespans, about 4 years maximum.
My possy is about 8 months old but he's not nearly as big as Inky. Inky is massive by comparison. Mine was severely disabled and had to be fed by hand for about 4 months, but now he trots along like a big boy. And cute as can be. Such a sweetie. How old is Inky? Maybe my possy will get a little bigger, but I think he's about fully grown. Is that when they stop growing...around 8 months? Inky is very active too!
I have a cat who's father is feral so he prefers the outdoors. I put food and water on the deck but one night I thought I heard him and I found an opossum scarfing down the food. He ran away when he saw me. Hate to admit it but I like them better with no tail. Guess it's the rat image but Inky is just precious. Another night, there was then a raccoon outside eating 😆. When I opened the door, he started to come to me holding out a paw. Just wasn't sure if I should trust him but I began leaving other things for him. I sat out a carton of eggs, which was much enjoyed 😉 😅 and some banana. He had gotten some from a bag so I figured that was an okay food. People said I shouldn't feed them but I love more than anything in this world, animals ♥ ❤ 💓 💙 😢 💗 ♥ No ill intent here. I never had children so please don't scold me for my love of nature.
So cute! I have a question. His face seems rounder than other opossum I've seen. Is that just a normal variation or is it a male/female thing, something else?
While it may partially be because he's male and seems like he's just approaching maturity, I believe it's mostly just him being very well fed. Living in rural TN I've seen quite a few opossum, and that's definitely one of the roundest I've ever seen. She did mention they put him on healthier food because of that. He also might look rounder because he's very fluffy, though that's probably just all the baths.
Opossums are so cool. Didn't know about their territorial issue? Assuming that the two opossums I saw together walking along my fence were probably male/female? Only seen them together once...all other times it's just one. Can't tell if it's the same one(s) or not (dark outside).
They could have been a breeding pair in courtship. If they were younger it could have been siblings or a mother and baby. Also, we should always leave room for individual variance, because maybe the two you saw were outliers and actually did enjoy each other's company.
Man he is one good looking floof noodle ❤Big boy and looks healthy too but idk what the right size os cuz I just really like opposums and have no experience w them personally😭 he does look super happy and outgoing i love it😍😊
What on earth makes you say that? The entire video he didn’t offer any aggressive behaviour at all. Yeah he’s got sharp teeth…..so? So do you….do people say you’re “angry and bitey” ? What the heck do you expect him to eat with if not sharp teeth? Jessi put him into programmes with the public right after quarantine, which means he HAS to have a good nature and she refers to him several times as “sweet natured”. And if your excuse is “I just meant he “looks mean””…..there’s a word for that….that word is prejudice.
Opossums generally don't get along with others when they're older. They enjoy their own space, so it wouldn't be beneficial for either of them to try an introduction.
It was so nice seeing Inky during the P4A. What a teddy bear of an opossum
So cute! Inky is definitely a fine gentlemen 😎
Seeing those teef and then seeing him being hand fed was really cute. So gentle!
He is awesome, and his yawn is something else. Looked like his jaw was going to fall off. 😃 Thanks for all that you do for the animals.
I just love his little possum feet! And his little pink nose and whisker face!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
it always surprises and amazes me, how big some animals can open their mouths. opossums, foxes and more
Aw, I love possums. They're such unique animals. America's only marsupials, with the ability to play dead. I know most people think they're ugly but I think they're cute.
opossums* - possums are different animals and they live in Australia
What a beautiful gorgeous animal.
Inky is probably cutest opposum I have ever seen, even his coat color is gorgeous

Whenever he was near the camera, I had to restrain myself from reaching out and trying to pet him. Absolute cutie.
He's so much like a well-loved cat it's adorable! Would love to see him get a bigger setup complete with a climbing wall, the chonky boi!
What a little ham! Inky is adorable and I bet he’s an excellent ambassador for his species!
been loving seeing inky on instagram, so glad to officially meet him!

He is a total sweetheart.🖤🇨🇦
Inky does not seem like he has the personality of a possum. I absolutely love this little guy!
I haven't finished the video, but how has Ophelia been ? Getting worried.
So glad you guys are doing so much for these animals
Wondering this too
He’s absolutely beautiful. And he has a great personality 👍

Inky has such kind eyes.
Welcome Inky! You couldn't have found a better home.

Question: What do opossums smell like? Do they have a musk like non-marsupial creatures built on the same basic 'blueprint'?
They are so cute!!
He's a beautiful One... They're so cool and soo misunderstood..
Tell Inky I love him 😭

Inky is so adorable!
I love Inky so so very much 🥺🥰
Oh no I love him! What a lovely little pillow man.
I 💖 Inky!🤗
OMG! So cute!!!
What an adorable chunk he is! Is he also missing the very tip of his right "index finger" bit? It looks like just a little black spot with no claw.
What a cute guy
His lil tail is cute!!
Welcome to Animal Wonders Inky
Inky would be too much for Ophelia, even though they are male and female.

Cute cute cute... But with fangs! 😎
Hello Inky^-^/ its so nice to meet you you adorable boy❤😊❤❤❤❤

Omg he's HUGE! ❤️❤️❤️
Such a joy watching you care for Gods critters. Is he a VA opossum and has he ever been aggressive
I don't understand why people are so scared of these beautiful lovely creatures. So misunderstood
We don't have opossums where I live but I thought people stereotyped them as dirty, not scary? Is it different between different areas or something?

How intelligent would you say opossums are, compared to the other mammals you work with?
Inky has some dandy toofer fangs
Do you still have the cat running wheel thing? Might be a bit big for the enclosure tho. That's maybe a good way to get him to exercise a bit (more)?
Yes!!
