I always loved that in every other movie the "mad scientist" always insists he can fix his creation when it gets out of control. But Miles Dyson doesn't hesitate for second to destroy his creation when he learns that it will be evil.
o.o wait they do.. legit man that is something I feel I would or would in the past have been like.. ngl fwiw imho that maybe a downfall but legit it is so true I would think of myself as being sure I could fix it, if I made something that turned out somehow to unbeilevably be awful.
i think he already knew it was evil, given it being in a vault and highly sensitive, he just didnt know how much
T2 is arguably the greatest sequel and the greatest action film ever made. The Terminator and T2 were the Star Wars and Empire for my generation
I would say top 3 sequels with Aliens and Empire Strikes Back
It’s amazing how well the CGI holds up for something that was made in 1991
A lot of what looks like cgi is actually latex in silver paint.
And a lot more is not even that. The best way to show a helicopter flying under a bridge? Film a real helicopter flying under a real bridge.

They used raytracing of metallic objects, and morphing one image into another. Both are pretty easy to do well. So they were smart in picking which type of CGI to use.

I nearly choked when I heard this, so I had to either make the comment or make sure someone did.
I'm a 40 year old man and i still cry every time like I'm 7 all over again! My parents took me to see it at the last drive in movie theater i ever went to! We tuned our car radio to get the audio, It was magical.
I like how Arnold shoves his tear gas grenade launcher into the arms of one of the cops, saying “here, hold this”, then rips the dude’s gas mask off. 😂
yeah i love that dgaf vibe he has, ripping things open, tossing people's faces into walls, brake checking the chopper, blasting t1k in the face point blank on the truck 👍

- It's true that the original 'Mobile Phones' of old were massive, but by the mid 1980s there existed models of the non-briefcase variety.
Actually, by the time they started filming 'T2' some cell phone models existed that weren't much bigger or heavier than some top tier cell phones of today.

They started filming 'T2' in '1990'.
And second...
By that time 'Motorola' had a model of 'Cell Phone' on the market that was built for the convenience of it being pocket-sized.
They launched it back in 1989...
And lastly...
If we compare this 'Cell Phone' to the top 100 heaviest phones of 2023, this old phone was equal to or lighter than 39 models on that list from '2023'.
Not bad for a 'Cell phone' released 34 years ago relative to that list...
Motorola soon shrunk this 'Cell Phone' in size and weight even more in the following years.
Releasing new and updated models, and design even lighter than all 100 of the phones of 2023 mentioned above.

Arnold's death at the end made me cry manly tears as a 6 year old kid. 😐
I think Linda Hamilton was totally robbed of a Best Actress nomination. Look at Linda's performance during the escape from Pescadero. Look at her performance during the attack on Dyson. Cameron and Linda Hamilton created one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female characters ever put on film. Sarah Connor is right up there with Cameron's own Ellen Ripley in Aliens and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.
Your reaction to this iconic/masterpiece of a sci fi sequel puts the biggest smile on my face.
Fun fact: In the scene where Arnold walks into the bar naked, he actually wore flamboyantly colored trunks without any of the extras knowing it was going to happen, just to get a reaction out of everybody.

Great reaction! I was ten when this came out. This was so huge that it was the first "R" movie my Dad let me watch with him. It was the first "grown up" movie I ever remember seeing and it holds a very special place in my heart. It was great seeing you enjoy it as well!
I was 7 when I watched this, I remember in the school playground pretending to be Arnie, with the Terminator theme tune playing in my head xD Legendary film.

Linda Hamilton taught herself how to pick locks for this movie. And pickling locks like that can happen with just about any lock, if you understand the mechanics of the lock. None are unpickable, as long as you understand its mechanics, though the difficulties to circumvent the locks can vary.
IMO, Linda was totally robbed of a Best Actress nomination. If it wasn't her attack on Dyson, it's her desperate escape from the mental hospital
To be fair some of the newer locks with slanted tumblers are a right bastard to pick even if you know what you are doing.
2 minor points ; First the CCTV in Pescadero would have recorded everything that happened. Second , at the end of this movie Sarah had committed so many crimes that she'd be going to jail for 50 years.
Best Sci Fi Action movie ever made!
Originally, Rock star Billy Idol (Dancing With Myself, Mony Mony, Cradle Of Love LA Woman and White Wedding) was considered for the role of the villainous T-1000, but injured his leg in a motorcycle accident. Robert Patrick was cast instead.
The opening scene where the Terminator and T-100 arrived naked from the future was almost cut as the producers thought it was a remake of the original movie, but when they learned the Terminator didn't kill anyone during the bar fight scene, they learned he was the good guy, while the T-1000 was the bad guy.
James Cameron revealed that he was high on Ecstasy while writing the script as he was promoting AVATAR THE WAY OF WATER.
It won 4/6 Oscars:
Best Visual Effects
Best Makeup
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing.
It lost Cinematography and Film Editing to JFK.
What's really scary is that scientists recently were able to create a liquid metal robot. It's really small, but it was able to escape from inside a cage by liquifying, passing thru the bars and reforming back to solid on the outside. We're all doomed.

First Terminator had a budget of $6 million. Terminator 2 budget was over $100 million so, yeah, better fx.
Well... arnolds pay was quite a signifcant part of the budget. Unlike in termiantor 3 where he had to pay to finish the movie of
T1 had a budget of $6,4 million, T2 a budget of $102 million. Schwarzenegger was paid $15 million. He was essentially paid $17.000 per word, he spoke.
@@matsv201 That figure also includes about $17 million that Carolco Pictures paid to Hemdale Film Corp. to buy the rights away from HFC (who owned a 50% stake in the film rights) and from Cameron's ex-wife, Gale Anne Hurd (to whom Cameron had given a 25% stake as part of their divorce). HFC was in serious financial trouble, and was being sued by several parties for unpaid profit shares, so they never would've been able to make the sequel on their own; Schwarzeneggar convinced Carolco to buy out the rights so the sequel could go forward.

SHe did a significant amount of work on the first terminator movie. It wasn´t like she just got it because they got divorced.
@@matsv201 I didn't see any reason to go into the details, as it wasn't really relevant to my point that the "production costs" of T2 included Carolco having to spend around $17 million to buy out the other parties' share of the movie rights.
One of the most anticipated sequels ever and one of the best ones , i could feel the energy in the audience when this came out and people were gasping
at the effects 😮
And good performances as well so cool to see Sarah back and a B A heroine here plus the surprising turnaround with
Arnold as the hero this time .

Personally i enjoyed your reaction to this more than any other reactors. I got to see this gem in theaters the summer it came out as a kid. Yeah Arnie made everyone tear up at the end. Love your comedic timing to everything ❤
Great reaction Nicolette like always, This is a great movie i can say that this is a perfect example of a sequel is better than the original. There are some fun facts about this masterpiece of cinema. Production took so long that Edward Furlong’s voice and height had to be altered the movie ended up taking so long to film that Edward Furlong, who plays John Connor in the film, had grown considerably taller than in the first shots he had filmed, and his voice had also deepened. This resulted in his voice having to be dubbed in the editing process. And, to keep his height consistent with Linda Hamilton’s, he had to stand in a hole in the ground in some scenes. Linda Hamilton’s twin sister appears in two scenes first in the playgroud scene as a younger Sarah Connor and in the metal works scene The T-1000 is the master of imitation and can quickly morph into anything it touches. In the metal works factory towards the end of the film, it transforms into Sarah Connor, and at one point the fake Sarah and the real Sarah are on screen at the same time. But there was no camera trickery there. The decoy was played by Linda Hamilton’s twin sister Leslie. Linda Hamilton suffered permanent hearing loss during this movie. And the Rodney King incident happened right next to filming. One night whilst filming the biker bar scene, unbeknownst to the crew, right across the street, Rodney King was being beaten badly by police officers; a case of police brutality that sent shockwaves across the globe. The incident later inspired James Cameron to write the film Strange Days. Keep up the amazing work.
The same "twin actors" effect was used for that scene where the T-1000 imitates the guard at the hospital, too. Played by Don and Dan Stanton, dressed in identical uniforms so both the guard and the T1000 could be in the same scene at the same time.
However -- the Rodney King incident did *not* take place while the crew was filming in the bar across the street. It actually happened a week later.
“Funny” story. Arnold was out promoting this movie and had an appearance on a night time variety show. As you know after watching this movie that the reveal in the middle of the movie is that Arnold is the good terminator. So anyway, Arnold goes on the show and they’re talking about how the movie is going to be coming out in a week or so and the host goes, so I heard you’re good in this movie. And in a blink of an eye, the reveal or the surprise reveal I should say was blown up. Whoever watched that show now knew that Arnold was going to be the good terminator in this movie, I felt so bad for the host because Arnold kinda looked at him like shut up dude…
RIP Leslie Hamilton (Linda's twin, who was both T-1000 in original movie, and Sarah's body double for the mirror scene.)

@@dallesamllhals9161 Not necessarily. I've seen another video where a 20-something expected it to be normal for a character in an early or mid-'90s film to have one. In most ways (like fashion), films set in the 1990s still feel very contemporary today, so people who are too young to have lived through that time often instinctually assume that technologies that are ubiquitous now would also have been available then.

@@BizzyX78 Sure. Mobile phones existed as early as the 1970s, but they didn't start to become more common until the late '90s and wouldn't be ubiquitous until the 2000s. (Smart phones gave everything the final push in the late 2000s/early 2010s, with the first iPhone release in 2007.)

4. Arnold did many of his own stunts in this movie, including riding the motorcycle. At one point he was injured, and they had to stop production for a couple of weeks so he could recover.

6. GOOF, The dogs at Enrique's place didn't react to "Uncle Bob" as a terminator.
7. "I need a vacation" was ad lib.

You know what I've always thought when watching that scene where the T-1000 shatters into frozen pieces? - Why did they not just scoop them up, put them into several lockboxes and keep them separate so they can never merge again? It's not like each individual piece has the superstrength or other capabilities the full machine has. It's definitely an overlooked weakness imho.
Smoking indoors was legal in California until 1998
Smoking was also a lot more common back then. I don't know the stats for the 90s but I know in the 80s around 50% of the population smoked.
They filmed an extra scene at the end of T1 where the camera zoomed out revealing that the factory the terminator was crushed in was apart of Cyberdyne but was cut

My favourite moment is the doctor seeing first hand the impossible things the T-800 and T-1000 could do.

The sheer amount of trivia knowledge I know for this movie that I could share would make this comment far too long. So I will give 3 facts real quick.
1: Vast majority of the effects you see in this movie are practical only CGI used is when the T1000 shapeshifts/heals.
2: The stunt where the truck that goes off the bridge into the LA river, the undershot had to be filmed by James Cameron himself since the whole camera crew were afraid of the truck crushing them.
3: The Heli chase was real, the pilot for the helicopter was a Vietnam war vet weaving under and over the bridges on that highway.

Great reaction to the final chapter of the Terminator story!
The man taking pictures while looked stunned in the mall is the same character (and actor) who was the police officer that Arnold took the police car from in his pursuit of Kyle and Sarah in the first movie. That's why he looks stunned: he knows who this guy is and he knows the damage and killing he was responsible for the last time he saw him. He's also the source of the current day photos the officers show Sarah in Pescadero. It's not mentioned or referred to in any editions, but it is an Easter Egg that a friend of mine showed me.
Robert Patrick trained so hard for this role as the T-1000. Training to fire a gun without the reflexive blink. Learning to run full speed only breathing through his nose, and he was fast enough a sprinter that he actually caught the dirt bike in the mall parking garage. He was so amazingly intimidating in this movie, as much as or even more so than Arnold, and that's saying something!
When the orderly licks Sarah in the hospital, that was apparently one of the so-called catatonia tests done by unethical or sadistic orderlies according to an old friend of mine who had worked in a few psych hospitals, mainly in California, back in the late 70s and early 80s. It wasn't unusual for patients to try to get an advantage by pretending to be catatonic, hoping that the staff would think that they were out of it and not pay much attention so they could try to escape, create havoc, or whatever. Licking someone's face was a mild way of testing, according to my friend. The more standard way of testing among the more brutal orderlies was what was called a cup check, basically hitting the person in the crotch as hard as they could with a broomstick or something like that (the tonfa, shown in the movie, or a billyclub/nightstick, wasn't standard when he was working in the field, so the evil jerks had to use other items like broomsticks of knees). If they didn't react then they were catatonic. And, sometimes, the catatonic patients needed to be taken to the hospital due to the damage inflicted by whatever the orderly did causing ruptures or internal damage. Apparently one patient lost his testicles as it was several days before it was realized how badly he had been hurt. And, of course, no one ever knew how it happened. “He musta fallen, or done it to himself to try to get out of here.” My friend never missed that job. He told me that some people did things worse than that, but those stories don't need repeating.
Most security cameras in these times were few in number and focused mainly on entrances/exits. They weren't as ubiquitous nor were they used to cover everywhere like they are now.
Sure, you can still pick most modern day locks. They may be more difficult to pick than thirty years ago, but any locksmith with their salt has the training in it. And a set of picks to use to open locks.
There are two sets of twins in this movie. One set are the brothers who played the security guard at Pescadero and the T-1000 imitating him. The other set are Linda Hamilton and her twin sister Lesley who played the other Sarah in the sequences like the nightmare where there are two of her are in the same scene. Lesley, a nurse in real life, passed away several years ago.
One thing I always liked and didn't catch until after several viewings, was that the Terminator begins copying John's mannerisms and his one sided half smirk smile. This is best seen in the exchange after he hefts the minigun in Sarah's arms bunker.
I remember learning that Cameron got a letter from a group of scientists congratulating him for the most realistic depiction of a nuclear detonation in a city in Sarah's nightmare. This horrified him since he was just trying to create the most over the top terrifying image he could, only to discover that it was accurate.
Luckily, Sarah stepped back from Terminator mode before killing Dyson, which is good. Killing Dyson wouldn't have changed much of anything anyway. Cyberdyne still would have had the parts, all his notes, and everything they needed to complete the project. Judgment Day would have come, just on a different day other than Michael Jackson's (and my little sister's) birthday. The excellent Joe Morton, who played Dyson, had an accident that punctured one of his lungs when he was younger, so he knew firsthand how Dyson should be breathing/gasping at the end.
Dyson was probably the biggest damn hero in the movie, going from completely clueless to willing to sacrifice himself for the future (a decision probably made easier because he had kids, though the younger daughter didn't appear in the theatrical cut) within an hour or two of time.
The extended edition had two advantages over the standard edition in my opinion. Though it wasn't obvious in its performance, the continuous damage the T-1000 was taking from every shot that hit it and every impact was affecting it. It is most obvious at the scene in the smelting plant after being shattered when, as shown in the theater release, its feet tended to take on the aspect of the flooring as it walked and, in the extended edition, when it grabbed a railing its hand mimicked the paint job on the railing. Also, in the extended edition, at the final scene when Sarah is calling out for John, he looks down and sees that the fake Sarah's feet look like the ironwork that the T-1000 is standing on and he knows for sure which to trust.
The extended edition variant ending is also superior (to me) for one more reason: it ends with older Sarah sitting on a playground bench and watching her adult son playing with her granddaughter, meaning that this Terminator movie is absolutely the end of the franchise, and all the movies that steal the name of the series after this are just lame cash grabs and can and should be avoided like the plague, in my opinion.

After this are a 3D theme park attraction, a short lived TV series, four more films, comics, graphic novels and videogames. This grossed over $500 million at the box office and won four Academy Awards
12:49 Funny enough, Robert Patrick trained so hard for this film that he kept catching up to Edward Furlong on the bike, so he had to slow down while still pretending he was sprinting at top speed. Pretty wild, eh?
The reason they couldn't find evidence of his father cause he Didn't exist He Was born in the future 2004 grew up in the war.
Most modern locks are quite easy to pick if you have enough practice. And electronic locks aren't much better; a lot of times just putting a strong magnet to the lock would open it.
When you're fighting with lasers and not bullets it certainly changes the perspective.
I also love the production company logos at the beginning of movies. I love the creativity and originality

Yes, lock picking is still a perfectly usable skill with most locks you'll encounter in life. Keys haven't changed much unless someone invests in a particularly awesome lock but most locks all are the same old pin/tumbler setup like we've had for 60 years. The concept of lock picking is easy to wrap your head around. What's hard is learning the right amount of force to apply to rotate the cylinder while you press each pin with a pick until it sticks. It takes some practice and finesse, but once you have it down it's a pizza cake. It's all about applying just barely enough torque on the cylinder, but not too much! Just barely enough, super gentle. You don't want to be torquing the shite out of it and trying to probe the pins, that doesn't work. You just want a tiny little bit of force on there so you can find where the pins land.

I'm so jealous of this new generation of young people who are experiencing Terminator 2 for the first time not knowing Arnold was the good guy. Everyone in 1991 knew going into T2 that Arnold was the good guy because all the trailers gave it away. Still one of the best sequels of all time.
during the 80s and 90s we all had nightmares like that. I was just a kid teenager but I still had nightmares like that just like that dream sequence she has. So yeah that's what was on a lot of mines of people at the time nightmare fuel... I'll still get it on occasion, especially what's going on today, but it's nearly not as graphic as it used to be, because I got used to it

Great stuff, but also maybe a couple of Iffy cuts? The gate guard and "He'll live." And the "Why do you cry?" scene (under the pickup) esp. because you bring it up later - which I esp. loved because of the link to the final scene in the foundry. Looking fwd to more reactions!
I was 9 when I watched this movie. I had seen the first one earlier in the year and was hyped to watch the sequel. When the Terminator sacrificed himself I cried my eyes out. It’s beautiful how James Cameron took the first film’s villain and made us shed tears. It’s such a beautiful film

Like John looking older than 10 , which I always wondered about and all those bikes out of place at the galleria that never crossed my mind. This is one of my favorite movies and I was so psyched to view it through your eyes ! You didn’t disappoint ! With such clever quips and being spot on with your observations along with even a sweet reveal of inner sensitivity at the end, I find you much more of an engaging and entertaining reactionary than most all others ! ! The motorbikes are not out of place. Its a shopping mall parking lot, and the Galleria is merely an arcade within the much larger mall. Edward Furlong (young John Conner) did grow during filming since he was going through puberty at the time. I think his earliest (youngest) appearance was in the desert weapons camp. Movies are often shot out of chronological sequence for various reasons. Which is why John looks slighty different in several scenes.
In the TV series LOST, there was 10yo kid and they had the same problem with kid actors growing quickly during puberty.

I love Sarah Connor's transformation into a complete badass between the first movie and this one.
What's great about these movies is it's not like they're dropping this at you from nowhere. Transformation is believable as you see the hints of a badass being hidden deep inside her even in the first movie. First when she takes the wheel and smashes terminator during car chase scene, then not leaving Kyle behind in the car and finally at the factory, that "On you feet, soldier!" line makes it perfectly clear that she's the future leader and commander and what we see in Terminator 2 is already a very logical continuation of the first one. THAT'S how you write strong female characters. She fits the role with her acting and fits the role with her visual side as well. Unlike modern "strong female characters" who look like they've never been anywhere outside their home except beauty salon and suddenly kick 20 men of 3 times their sizes... plus they know nuclear physics, rocker science and trigonometry at the age of 20
The plasma rifles along with gun shot sfx actually sounded better on vhs. They were altered and turned down on dvd to fit new standard of rating system. Example be first die hard had louder guns but live free or die hard had softer sounding. 90's pg13 is 2020's r rating

It was the great blockbuster of 1991, it was a spectacle to see this in theaters, other great blockbusters of the time that you should see are Independence Day, Armageddon, The Rock, Speed, Face Off, Gladiator.

Yeah the budget for this was much much higher then the first movie. Terminator 1 was an extremely low budget movie that Cameron had to pretty much beg to get made. Pretty much everyone except Cameron (including Arnold) expected the first movie to bomb. It becoming a hit was a major surprise for the studio.
Well yeah the special effects budget was better. This one cost around 100mn Dollars and the first one was just a low budget movie (for 6mn Dollars). Each one amazing in its own right. One for stretching every dollar into making a classic movie the other for pushing special effects to a whole new level.

I was 20 when this movie came out and it is one of my favorites. It's not often a sequel is better than the original, but T-2 was better than the original in so many ways. Before filming started, Linda Hamilton spent three months in intense physical training with a former Israeli Special Forces commando. She was even able to take apart a gun and put it back together blindfolded. Robert Patrick, who played the T-1000, went through the same training. Robert Patrick also made cameos in Wayne's World and The Last Action Hero in character as the T-1000. Glad you liked this one.

Yes, T2 is great mainly because of its lessons and messages. There is a lot for people to learn in T2 and maybe the world wouldn't be as bad as it is if people respected and valued each other more and valued human life more.
